A.Fabulous Sunday lunch, cooked beautifully and great staff throughout but where lunch was served it was a extremely cold room ,The main reception had a lovely open fire but when seated in the dining room we had to keep our outside coats on during our meal .we were not alone and saw several other diners do the same. Appreciated it was 5 degrees outside, but 1 radiator in a large dining area with original single width glass and the door to the outside wasn't ideal.We spoke to a waiter who said its cold outside, and the heater was on.. I feel a few extra heaters would have been appreciated. I love Ballykealey house but would avoid if it's a cold winter day. Otherwise exceptional service.

E. M.Stayed for a family staycation in one of the self catering lodges. Booked it because we could bring the dog and it has met and beaten all expectations. Fabulous house and grounds and excellent base to explore and tour Carlow. Cannot recommend it highly enough for a great family holiday!

T. T.A location that would have been 5 stars but for experiences during the stay, particularly arrival.
Booked a self catering lodge, as recommended, as taking the 2 dogs along and not possible to stay in the House itself. When booking I was notified that due there being a wedding on the Friday, dinner in the House would not be an option but a menu could be used to order and have delivered.
Received a call Friday morning to confirm all was proceeding and I advised an approx evening arrival, traffic permitting. Arrived Friday evening, charge already taken for the lodge, and was told a, menu would be dropped over,, sometime later with no sign, walked back across to be informed that no dinner would be provided as the chef had gone. A duty manager then arrived, I expressed my frustrations, which I admit became stronger, when the duty manager continually stated that due to Covid I should have pre booked the meal, so it was my fault! Eventually they said they would speak to the manager I booked with. Shortly after, another manager came to the lodge asking for my dinner choice from some options and within 15 minutes, a delicious dinner was presented.
From that point on, the staff were a delight, engaging and helpful.
Breakfast one morning had the problem of multiple weddings guests strolling around without masks in the breakfast area. including the buffet section, this issue was sorted by the next meal.
Called to book breakfast for Monday morning to be advised that the main House would close up Sunday evening, no food available. No lighting either apart from near the lodges when the House, closes up.
So, in conclusion when being given a lodge.
1. Get in writing any dining options, discussed
2. Remember that unless you know you must switch on the immersion heater in your lodge, and know where it is, you will have no hot water for showers!
3. If you have dogs, they will enjoy the stay, the TV's have YouTube and dog soothing music channels, set up 👍 they work. But you will need to bring your own dog beds bowls etc.
4. Enjoy the location and at night, if clear, look up, perhaps bring good binoculars or a telescope saw multiple satellites plus the International Space Station.
5. Bring a torch for late night dog walks (and cleaning up to, please)

L. K.What a pleasure to stay in Ballykealy House. Luke Smith and his team were just the most fabulous hosts, so attentive and extremely generous with their time. They made us feel so welcome and really special. Food was also delicious.
M.Absolute gem of a place. We went there for coffee morning and this building is impressive and fabulous. Old style which I love, beautiful ambience. We had tea and scones which were beautifully served. The service was top notch from the reception and service areas. Lovely people working there. The place is spotless too, lovely ambience in the place. Will definitely go back soon.

Gentleman who served us was so friendly and professional we will definitely be going back. Could not fault anything about the food or service.
k. K.What a lovely hidden gem. We stayed for two nights and the room was just gorgeous with 4 poster bed, large bathroom with massive bath and super power shower. Service was excellent, restaurant staff very helpful and courteous. Lovely grounds, highly recommend. Handy for climbing Mt Leinster nearby and lots of shops in Carlow.

Had our reception there 29 years ago today. The setting is still fabulous. A lot of work has been done on the grounds and the house. The meal was very good although choice was limited to 5 options each of mains starters and desserts . The service was excellent...friendly and attentive. Our only negative comment was there is no wheelchair access.

M. B.Ballyealey House is an amazing wedding venue, for small and intimate weddings to outdoor wedding to large weddings they cater for all. The new addition of the converted barn as a ceremony room is fantastic.
The staff are brilliant, so friendly and so obliging, they would do anything for you.

Had dinner in Ballykealy yesterday afternoon what can I say it didn't fail, the food excellent, setting fantastic and the staff were more than helpful and friendly. We were assisted by Corey and Cloina, they were outstanding in their work. We will be booking another dinner date very soon.
