Just on the way back from a 3 night stay at Ghan house. Lovely setting, we really enjoyed our stay and loved the bath - very relaxing. The highlight was the dinner in the restaurant, food was gorgeous and staff attentive without being intrusive. Breakfast was great - really liked the chia pudding!

The staff are fantastic, the food was really beautiful and the wine list was superb. Very relaxed, old world charm. Possibly one of the best breakfasts i have had with everything locally sourced/homemade - even the marmalade and jams. Try the strawberry and gooseberry jam. A revelation! Will definitely be back.

A beautiful, country house, exclusive, family run, hotel in the centre of Carlingford. Food is first-class and bedrooms are very traditional with antique furniture although all modern conveniences are available in well-appointed bathroom. The service at breakfast is very good and the selection is extensive. The garden is private and guests are encouraged to sit out for drinks, or tea and a chat. I would highly recommend this for a special occasion. A touch of old world charm and courtesy, a rare find. We will be back.

We just had our wedding at Ghan House at the weekend and although the covid restrictions capped our numbers to ourselves and 6 guests, the day was no less special for it. Its a perfect venue for a small wedding but we had planned for a much larger event there and we would be confident they could cater for that. The staff are very attentive but have a relaxed style which is truly lovely. Food was excellent, rooms are beautiful and the locations is class! It was a very special day.

Paul and his team took such great care of us all during the lockdown! Not only was it our weekend date night, we shared the pickup with our neighbours and when our son and his girlfriend decided to treat themselves and us they too availed of the takeaway service. Restaurants were closed here ...and still are for indoor dining...so being able to do an online order for months on end was such a wonderful treat for myself and our family. I am sorry to say it is only now months later I am getting to write this review because it was the high point of all our lockdown weekends; I would order lots of extras to keep us going till Sunday; the home made jam and marmalade, the exquisite desserts; great vegan options; a home-cooked taste but better by far than we could manage at home with novel and exciting ingredients. The chocolate and Peanut slices for example were such a great treat. The Caramel Pound cake was old fashioned in the best way just when comfort food was our thing. We would order between our family a bit of everything to share...the potted salmon with sauce gribiche and cumin bread; delicious. The Fish Bake I knew I would like the last time we ordered but I could not decide so I got two dinners, the spicy lamb keem flatbread for 2 but for 1...was still able to share. I ordered some carrot and walnut cake also with a plan to freeze some for my daughter's fiancé but oops, it never made it. I will have to see if I can get some more. Please note, takeaway people that the Ghan House invited us to bring back the boxes, jam jars, silver foil containers and lids; this was so important as packaging is often so wasteful so well done on this eco initiative. I really look forward to the re-opening and sitting in the beautiful dining room again looking out at the sea and feeling like I am in a Jane Austen story! There were delightful touches such as a posy of herbs or a loaf of bread added to the consignment, just when surprises were in short supply elsewhere. Thanks to all the Ghan House team & keep safe till we are all vaccinated and letting the good times roll.

Ghan house is a gorgeous small wedding venue. The decor, surroundings and cosiness were lovely. The owner Paul and his staff were so attentive to our every need. And the food was gorgeous. Definitely a 5 star experience. Thank you so much.

We stayed there at the weekend for a wedding just six guest we had the best time there beautiful food excellent rooms the service was second to none. We were made so welcome there. Looking forward to go back there for food and to stay when lockdown is over . I highly recommend Ghad House it has a 5 star from me.

This place is top class and full of character.We stayed in an old style room in the main house which was very comfortable with a large modern bathroom. The food in the restaurant was fantastic right up there with anywhere we have been. They are coping well with the whole covid scenario and you feel safe.....100% would stay again.

We had our wedding celebration here, the food, staff and venue were beyond reproach. We had several vegans and vegetarians in our party who all commented on the quality and variety of their dishes. The staff were excellent, always attentive but discreet when required. Food was incredible. Ground and house were utterly charming, and we felt like it was ours for the duration of our day and night. The house itself has a rich history and the proprietors have retained this brilliantly throughout.

Thank you Paul and all the lovely staff at Ghan House. We really enjoyed our 2 night stay in this gorgeous house and what an incredible location. Loved our bedroom and our first time sleeping in a 4 poster bed!! Delicious food, wine and memorable gin and tonics (long, tall glasses, no peppercorns!) by the side of the lake as the evening light went down. By far the most memorable part of our stay was the relaxed, warm and genuinely friendly welcome from the staff. Go visit Ghan House. You will not regret if. #staycation # supportlocalbusiness 🇮🇪💚☘️

I stayed here with my family and we were treated like royalty! Paul and his team are experts in hospitality. The rooms were gorgeous and everything was more beautiful than pictured. Comfiest bed, fluffiest towels, luxurious toiletries were offered. The food at the restaurant was the best meal I've ever had! This short stay at the Ghan house was my favorite part of my trip to Ireland. Keep up the good work!

Just returned from a weekend with my sisters at Ghan House. The welcome was just wonderful, we felt so at home and well looked after. Paul and his team are fantastic. Food in the restaurant was delicious, really exceeded expectations. Breakfast was also great and we all loved the fact that Joyce's recipes were printed on the back of the menus. We'll all be making soaked fruit and bircher muesli! Lovely fireside chats were had till the wee hours, the sitting room with open fire and plenty of magazines and newspapers was a treat. Thanks a million for looking after us so well. We couldn't recommend Ghan House heartily enough - it's a gem.

We had our wedding in Ghan House in October and I couldn't ask for a better experience. We wanted a chilled, intimate and special celebration and that's exactly what we got. From the first time I got in touch, Orla in the office was so helpful with all my questions and requests. And the day itself was magical, such a beautiful, timeless venue, amazing food which was top notch and catered to our vegan guests, great wine and of course warm and helpful staff. We'll be back for our anniversary!

A group of 17 ladies stayed overnight at Ghan House in celebration of our friend's hen party last Saturday night. The booking process couldn't have been simpler thanks to Sarah and Orla who were made sure all the plans went smoothly. We received a fantastic welcome from Paul who checked us into our comfortable and spacious rooms. We dined in a private dining room that evening and the service and food was excellent. The staff were all so kind and accommodating - special mention to Claire and the bar man (apologies, I forget his name). 5 stars to Ghan House and it's great value too!

Great dinner, carpaccio of scallop lovely. Braised venison beautiful. Service very attentive but not pushy. Treated like a king..rooms dressed old school, open fires, cosy. Only had half occupancy so maybe could lower prices for off season or slow times. But excellent..highly recommended

We’d stopped going to Carlingford at weekends as it can be quite busy in the pubs and restaurants. Ghan House is a wonderful oasis right in the town. Really nice, friendly service, excellent food ( great breakfast too ) coupled with the beauty of old style rooms and furniture (but thoroughly modern bathrooms).

Was here as part of a wedding afters- found the space to be quaint and staff to be welcoming and professional. Food was perfect and everyone at my table enjoyed what they ordered. Will be recommending this venue to others. Parking is limited and toilets are downstairs so the place may not be suitable for wheelchair users

This is the perfect venue for a wedding, big birthday party, renewing vows, and other big occasions. I got married to my wife here on June 8 of this year and want to go back already. The food was delicious, I mean every meal dinner breakfast and appetizers, it all tasted real and authentic. The staff was absolute world class making sure my wedding without a hitch. My wife and I came over from Florida to get married here with 35 guests. We had never seen the place or met any of the staff in person until the day before our wedding. We did not have a planner because the staff on hand makes everything very easy and will help each of the step of the way. I love this place and the city of Carlingford, they are true hidden gems! Paul and his staff are truly remarkable and I can not wait to come and visit them again

Beautiful place to stay, everything was so relaxed.

I was hired by a young couple to photograph a wedding at the Ghan House in June 2017. We made up a group of about 40 Americans and Europeans most of whom stayed on the Ghan House property the duration of the weekend. While my time there was in a professional capacity I was still treated as a guest and I really want to share my incredible experience on the property. I especially feel this review will be valuable for those considering booking the Ghan house to host their wedding or event. In the past 10 years having photographed over 100 weddings. Graciously I have been granted the opportunity to experience accommodation and wedding venues all over the world. This was my first time working in Ireland. The Ghan House and their staff did not disappoint. Prior to arriving to the Ghan House I had been working in Dublin. When traveling I prefer more of a "local" vibe so Dublin I felt was too similar to every other big city I had visited, tons of ex-pats..... Eitherway, Carlingford was better and had more of a local flavor. Even more local was nearby Omeath (about 15 minutes drive North). This is where I spent a majority of my time when not working at the Ghan House. The property has a very classic vibe the garden is incredible and the inside is like a museum filled with artifacts that tell the story of the Ghan House and those who lived there-I loved this it made the stay more of an experience! My first morning I met Paul, the owner, and his son Kaden over breakfast. If you get an opportunity chat with Jaden, our conversation was cut short because h had to run to school- but he seemed like a pretty interesting fellow. The families involvement gives the Ghan House such an incredibly cozy B&B vibe. Its also very reassuring to me a vendor when the owner of the property is onsite as things are almost certain to run smooth. The Ghan House was really a perfect combination of unique Irish formalesque and down-home hospitality. The FOOD words cannot explain how good the food was at the Ghan House. Every meal included perfect details and flavor!! I felt like the food was just coming 24-7 which was amazing!! The late night savory snacks that were prepared as the wedding reception was winding down was such an incredible touch!! Even if you don't stay at the Ghan House its worth stopping in for a meal... I think the chef should make rounds into the dining hall the meals were that good!! DARA- the amazing Dara....there is nothing this woman was not willing to do for the guests. She ran circles around all 40 of us needy Americans like she had been doing it for years! No matter what the problem Dara made a plan. The morning of the wedding the girls were running late for their hair appointment and had no time for breakfast. I asked Dara if I could order their breakfast take-away (assuming they had styrofoam take away containers) without hesitation Dara made it happen. Within a few minutes she comes walking out of the kitchen with all of their breakfast plates packed away nicely on a huge tray!! She was amazing!! If there is one thing I would suggest to brides, especially American brides, ha!! who are considering hosting their wedding at the Ghan and this even goes to those brides panic-ridden photographers, hahahah.....I suggest you RELAX and trust the Ghan House staff to make your day incredible!! I have been to hundreds of weddings and their staff REALLY ARE PROS!!! They have such attention to detail and they have such a well organized machine of organization they honestly can handle and and all unforseen circumstances (yes, even rain!! ha!) I suggest tell them your numbers and your needs then back off and trust them!! The same advice goes for any panic-ridden photographers you may bring along......just let the Ghan House staff work their magic!! 😃 You will NOT be disappointed.... oh and also 2 suggestions brides: splurge on a good florist and check out the a local band called Anton and Stephanie (AMAZING) .....also of course, I know a pretty good photographer as well!!!!

I attended the cookery class at Ghan house as part of a hen party. The overall experience was good the food we prepared was of an easy enough skill level however they were lacking ingredients for some of the dishes anf although some substitutes were made the menu/receipts didnt state this. It was also not made clear that substitutes were available until asked. The dinner experience was 1st class abd the service was excellent.

If you have a group corporate meeting I would suggest Carlingford as a destination town/village (just an hour from both Dublin & Belfast airports) and in particular Ghan House. We came to Ghan House in Carlingford for our 1st Annual Peer Group agricultural meeting for 20 innovative farmers from Denmark, Ireland, Finland, Canada, Australia and USA. This is an amazing venue for a meeting - the drawing room easily seats 30+, it is classically decorated with a big fire place, floor to ceiling windows that look out over Carlingford Lough to the Mountains of Mourne. Ghan House is very comfortable makes you feel you are at home and hence makes a perfect networking venue for the group to get to know one another. We stayed in the beautifully decorated bedrooms - with a classical look. It really brings you back to feel like you are in an old estate, it's like the series Downton Abbey! The ballroom was used for dining which allowed us to take a break for lunch, but not waste any time during the meeting. The service was flawless. The morning breakfast has options of a hot breakfast like eggs, fish, meats and cold options like cereal and fruits. We had coffee/tea service on each of our breaks that allowed people to get up and move around and network. And options for cold lunch - soup/salads - or a hot lunch with meat, veggies and potatoes. The food was amazing. We were at Ghan House all week – so we also got out and ate at the Bay Tree and PJ O’Hare’s Both locations were just a minute walk – we had great food and they were very accommodating for our large group and even made a special menu for guests who had eating restrictions. I would recommend both of these restaurants and of course Ghan House! I could not have asked for better. Great staff, great management and the owner Paul really makes you feel right at home. I would recommend Ghan House for anyone who wants to visit Carlingford. All the people I met that lived and worked in Carlingford helped me find what I was looking for, shared the history of the community and really made me feel welcome. Paul, Sarah or Sean can help with logistics – their local knowledge and ‘can do’ attitude – they can help with shuttles, bus schedules or whatever else you may need. We can't wait to go back to Carlingford and especially Ghan House in the future.

Ghan House was absolutely stunning. I attended a small ceremony here. It was beautiful from start to finish. The decor in the house is amazing. The food is beautiful! The staff are so friendly. Would recommend! The only thing I noticed was the driving directions don't bring you to the correct gate, you unnecessarily go up the one way street and end up in tje wrong spot.
