Breathtaking view of Cork city. Quite surprising the tricky climbing through narrow staircase passing right next to the bells 🔔 and behind the giant clock 🕰
C. L.
Definitely worth a visit to ring the bells and check out the views from the top.

To the top. Most incredible building in Cork. You walk up and beautiful view of Cork will open for you. Most exiting - you can ring a bell 🥳 any age will enjoy. If you can't use stairs -there is an outside area or small Church to enjoy.

It was one of my favourite attractions in Cork and, even if the Church is really simple and the tower seems (and is) really old, and not really tourist-friendly, I was so happy to visit it! You can visit the Church for free but you have to pay to go up to the top of the tower (5€ adult, 4€ student/senior, 2,50€ child and 12€ family). It's quite difficult to reach the top and I don't think that anyone can do it, because you have to get through the bells (and you MUST wear the headphones that the friendly desk lady will give you). Despite that, the view you'll see when you reach the top it's amazing and breathtaking! You can see all Cork and it's so beautiful; it's not really busy and you can stay up there as much as you want. And when you reach the first floor you can ring the bells: it's so amusing! I absolutely recommend it.

Unfortunately the church was closed when I've been there. Although that I liked. I love that kind of construction, love to visit churches.

This was an a very reasonably priced experience at €5. You climb the stone steps up into the bell tower, then climb a ladder & step through a small space to the next stairway which is very narrow & steep. However, once you reach the top and walk outside, the views of Cork are breathtaking. You wear ear protectors on the way up to protect you from the bells as you pass by them on your way to the top. On your way down on the 1st floor you can pick a hymn or song from the book and ring it out on the Shandon Bells. I would suggest you go with someone who will wait outside & record it as your chosen song chimes over the rooftops and down the hillsides. It is truly a lovely experience.

4€ to go up the tower, my advice is to go !
You will have a really nice view of the city from there. When you will go up, you will stop at several floors, that give you some information about the structure.
But pay attention, steps are high and the the last staircase it tighter that the previous ones.
Plus you will have the opportunity of seeing a bell from close, but at this step, you have to do some acrobatics to reach the last staircase.
But it worth it ! :)

A lovely church and the tower provides a great view of Cork. There are quite a few stairs to climb and to get to the observation deck you have to maneuver around 3 wooden ladder rungs; however the bells can be played at the top of the first staircase. Protective earware is provided. It is a great place to visit when in Cork.
B. C.
We enjoyed our visit to St. Anne's and the Shandon Bells Tower. The climb up the tower is very narrow on old stone steps, but it was worth it. View at the top was awesome and it was fun to play the bells.
L. E.
Wow! Up the famous tower, pulling youself up the spiral stairs with a rope. Crawl and grunt and mind your head and put on ear protectors. Fantastic view and you get to rjng the bells. If you reasonably fit and not afraid of heights it's amazing fun!
P. M.
It's the iconic landmark building of Cork City with an easy playing bell ringing fun oriented thing to do for visitors 4 euro entry fee good value as the top provides great views of considerable distance to the 4 directions, bring binoculars and your camera.
A. K.
A must visit place to see all Cork from Above. Thw tickets for students just 3 euro. Worth it
J. S.
We enjoyed a nice walk up from the city center to see Shandon Tower and St. Anne's Church. Climbing the stairs up and around to the top is very cool. As you stop on each level you get to see the clock's mechanisms and your head is right next to the bells (wear the ear protection they give you!), and on one level you get to pull the numbered ropes to play a song (easy to follow music sheets are provided). The stairs are narrow and wind upwards, and there's a bit when you climb a small ladder and duck under some wood -- therefore someone with physical limitations may not be able to make it to the top. Going in the church is free, but there's a small entry fee to climb the tower -- well worth it as it goes to upkeep of one of the city's oldest churches that's still in use. After ringing the bells and taking in the views, we walked across the street for a pint of cider at The Shandon Arms and had a great chat with the locals. I'll be honest -- I thought ringing the bells would be dorky, but we really enjoyed our trip to Shandon Tower. (It's also right by the butter museum if you're looking to squeeze in a few attractions in one area.)
G. S.
When someone told me you could do bell ringing at this tower I genuinely did not believe them! But honestly it was really fun making the bells ring out to "Hey Jude" in the morning. You can learn the history of the church as well getting some striking views as you reach the top of the tower.
N. M.
Great views of Cork city and a bit of a Harry Potter experience climbing to the top. Very friendly reception. Well worth a visit.
S. K.
If you're looking for a place with a view of Cork City, then here is the place for you :) especially on a nice and sunny day.
A historical bells tower, just minutes walking from Cork City Center. There's an entrance fee. If you suffer from heights, then this is not the place for you.
b. c.
Currently best views of Cork city from the tower. A family ticket of €12 is well worth it. You get to visit the little church and climb to the balcony near the top of the tower. On the way you can ring the bells, (you are provided with ear protectors). There are explanatory leaflets in a number of languages at the reception. Be aware anyone with reduced mobility will have great difficulty negotiating the steps to the tower. If you suffer from claustrophobia you may not like the ascent. Along the way, are some informational stations, but to be honest, it's time for the management to start upgrading/improving these information boards as they are not very inviting. A must do when in Cork. We were there for about 30 minutes.
P. Y.
Beautiful old church with a lovely climb to the viewing gallery at the top of the bell tower. Not for people with mobility issues. Tight narrow staircase and a bit of squeezing needed to complete the climb. The views are worth it.
L. B.
A must see attraction in Cork, climb the tower and ring the bells. Near by the butter museum and other cathedrals are well worth a visit.
This is a popular attraction in Cork and can be seen from almost anywhere in the city. Plenty of other attractions nearby.
It’s a stop well worth making and if you have time ring the bells and read about the history. Like all thing Irish it’s old.
T. M.
Fantastic view; hair raising experience while climbing the narrow stairs. A must see.
P. W.
Absolutely amazing vantage point! Spectacular views of Cork City and a fabulous piece of history to boot!
D. M.
Very interesting place. Trip up to the top has stories on each level. Going up to top of tower can be a little awkward but so worth it when you see the views of Cork city
C. G.
A unique experience ringing its bells (in which you can play a few songs) and viewing and enjoying the amazing views of the whole city from the very top.
> (I don't post a photo from the very top because you have to see it by yourselves!!!)
M. A.
It's a nice place to see all the city from top of the tower 👍
R. M.
The only charge is to go up the tower and ring the bells, which at 5 Euro and adult and 2.50 a child is reasonable. Lovely interior though some pews were being renovated at the time of writing.
K. H.
Brilliant experience to be able to climb the tower and see the clock mechanism and also the bells a totally different and interesting thing to do.
M. A.
Nice place to visit but the entrance was closed during my visit but still, I enjoyed.
R. K.
The view from the top is breathtaking. An added bonus is that you can ring the bells yourself! It can get a little narrow on the way up the tower, but it is part of the fun to maneuver the steps!
J. H.
€5 to play a real Church bell? Totally worth every penny. Don't miss the tower tour.
M. W.
Well worth a visit and climb to the top Very narrow at top Great views of Cork You can ring the Bells if you so wish.
E. B.
Beautiful building. Well worth a visit for all tourists and locals.
g. z.
Play the music by the bells of the church I first in my life. The song of “Ode to joy” was flowing soundly over the lovely town, amazing!
J. W.
Brought my children for a visit as I spent many a day as a child here. Not good for my vertigo; but memories made to last a lifetime !!
C. O. D.
I love Shadon bells... i live very near here and i can here the bells go off every day..
it is so beautiful to look at..
People come from all over the world to visit
V. V.
Cool place to go and get a nice view of Cork. But not much to see in the building itself.
G. R.
Great place to see over Cork. You get to ring the famous Shandon Bells. Great view from the balcony
A. D.
One of Cork's most iconic landmarks. The four face liar is worth a visit, all the way up!
N. W.
This was a nice spot to stop on our walk of Cork. It was at the top of a hill then you walk up a bunch more steps so be aware. The steps are narrow the further up you go. The kid had fun ringing the bell and playing music. It is nice to see the clock works and the view of the city is well worth all of it.
E. O.
Time well spent 🕒. So much to say about a visit to this historic Cork landmark. You get to see the inner workings of a masterpiece of time keeping very up close and personal....within touching distance and certainly within hearing distance. You can ring the bells and play melodies either by ear or using number charts for all of Cork to hear. Building itself is a lovely place for the senses, where you can see, touch and hear the craftsmanship that has existed in this country for centuries. Panoramic views over "Beautiful city, charming and pretty" await you when you've made your way up the stone and timber staircases, around the clock mechanism and pass the bells. No computer graphics, multimedia interactive gadgets here. There are 8 ropes attached to 8 bells, you pull on the ropes and the bells ring. Fantasticly simple and great fun. Very friendly staff and very reasonably priced. It is what it is, a gem. "Shandon steeple stands so straight, the River Lee flows underneath. Here's up 'em all🎶🎶"
A.
Beautiful place. You can ring the bells in the Bell tower. They provide you with different songs to play on the bells like The Shire from Lord of the Rings, or the Top Gun theme. After you play bells, you can climb the rest of the Bell tower to get an amazing view of Cork. Afterwards, I recommend exploring the inside of the church where you can see the gorgeous stain glass windows and a model of the church made of match sticks and popsicle sticks. Definitely worth the 5€.
S. R.
Shandon is one of Cork's true potential tourism goldmines, having many of the charms that have made the Sacre Coeur area of Paris such a magnet for people looking for the Parisian experience. Shandon is as Cork as it gets, and the church and bell tower are icing on the cake.
J. Q.
Great experience to ring the bells. Added feature there is a book of songs you can play on the bells by numbers. Great view of the city from top of building. Although there is a lot of steps to climb which get quite narrow. But worth the climb.
J. S.
Off the beaten tourist path to be sure but I was thrilled! How often have you wanted to ring the church bells? Well this is your chance. Then climb a narrow stairway hewn into the rock building inner wall and visit the bells themselves! Then a few more steps to the best view of Cork anywhere!
S. W.
Fantastic church and unique bell tower where you can ring the bells! Steep steps might hinder some and you'll need to be flexible to get to the 3rd floor viewing level, but it's worth it to see the city from above.
F. P.
Must see. Bells not available at the time of visit, but the view is very good.
C. T.
Lovely period Church of Ireland Church. Lovely stained glass windows. Some of the original pews are still in place and the modern seating with the carved salmon motif from the weather vein are attractive.
Didn't climb the tower. Heard the Shandon Bells when the clock struck 'One'. A very interesting part of Cork City, with the Butter Exchange and the Firkin Crane. More however could be made of this interesting area with a good maintenance programming for the upkeep of buildings and a reduction in on street car parking.
O. Č.
Unique experience. You actually get to play a song using the bells. Top level has stunning views of Cork.
Four stars because the elderly and people with limited physical ability should definitely be warned (there were no signs) and get discounts because they physically can't go to the top (have to crawl between the beams and clockwork).
D. K.
It's a very impressive piece of history and a little mystery point of Cork and you can play the bells in the top of the tower🗼 by your own. I think it is a also a mystik place with some parts of a lost wonderful Celtic culture. 🏛️Believe it or not. 😎 🏛️🎭🛐🙏🧚🌹
G. M.
The view from the tower is absolutely amazing!
J. G.
Wonderful, historical, and fun place to visit. Glance at the beautiful interior. Inspect the fantastic antique book collection. And pay the minimal fee to go play a tune on the church bells and observe Cork from the tower. Quick visit and worth every second.
T. S.
A very LGBTQIA+🏳️🌈 friendly church known and loved for its distinctively pepperpot shaped tower. In the past, i. e. before Covid, people could climb the tower for a fee, enjoy the spectacular views and ring the famous Shandon bells. This is now no longer possible, which is rather positive for those who were forced to listen to that amateur bell ringing for hours. Do not miss the salmon on top of the tower. You can still visit the main church hall and have a look on some interesting inspirational books.
M. F.
Maybe I am a bit biased but I love the rebel county and cork city. I know the history of this site and shandon. This tower with its four liars, clock faces, that due to the wind tell slightly different times on each side, the 8 bells that visitors can play plus great views over cork on a good day is well worth the trip. However, you need to be fairly fit to the climb the narrow steps, and back down which are only one person wide, and must not forget the ear-covers to protect you from the ringing bells as you climb past. The St Anne's church at its base is also worth a visit.
M. R.
We visited in October 2017 and climbed to the top of the tower. Something like 8 euro for the visit, which is neither a great deal nor outrageous given the upkeep needed. My wife was a little hesitant to do "another" church building visit until I said "I think you can play the bells." Shortly thereafter, we found ourselves up a few levels tugging on ropes with bells ringing out through the neighborhood. She enjoyed that, and we enjoyed the beautiful view from the top of the tower on a sunny day. It can be a little cramped and busy up the tower, so watch out for others and watch for your head. The Shandon neighborhood is up a big hill from downtown - it's not real sketchy or anything, but it can be pretty empty so best keep your wits about you.
L. H.
A fun activity for anyone in Cork, climb up the tower to ring the bells for a small charge. Keep on climbing past the bells you've just rang and be rewarded with amazing 360 views of the city! The area around the tower is also worth a wander, lots of small streets
P. J.
Great experience at a fair commission fee. Great climbing up the old narrow stairs and into the bell room. You can even play the bells. Lovely view at the top.
V. A.
It is a tiny piece of history with a great view and an opportunity to test your bellringing skills. Legend has it, that in order to become a Corkonian you must ring the bell of St. Anne’s church. The visit takes 30-40 minutes. You’ll ring the bells, see the inside of the clock, and climb the church tower for a breathtaking view. Worth a visit as part of your city adventure.
M. C.
Take the time to visit to see the whole city from a fantastic old Cork landmark church bell tower. Ring the bells and let the whole world hear your music. Very low entry fee and very knowledgeable helpful friendly staff.
F. R.
It's a beautiful church. On top of it you can have a walk on the outside. The sight is unbelievable! You can see all Cork from there. And as a bonus you can ring the bells. They even have a little book with popular songs that you can try to play with.
C. D. P.
Beautiful view at the top
N. K.
The views from the top of the tower were nice and the stops along the way were informative and interesting. If you're physically impaired in any way though it's going to be very difficult to get to the top as there are a few awkward corners and thin stairwells.
S. H.
Absolutely amazing. Went up all the way and enjoyed the view. It's worth the climb, although it gets very narrow for a bit. And you get to ring the bells yourself, with a couple of songs to choose from as inspiration. It's a lot of fun.
T.
Fantastic view over the city, you can ring the bells yourself. The climbing up is an adventure itself. Worth every penny oft the fee!
A.
It was a cheap and fun side tour. You get to ring the tower Bell's which is kinda novel. At the top of the tower there is a beautiful view of the city Cork
M. F.
Shandon Bells Experience is well worth visiting. Nestled in the heart of historic Cork they are an Icon of Architecture for the city.
They allow you to climb the tower and play your own music on the harmonious bells.
G. D. (.
Really great little experience here. The price is cheap and it gives you panoramic views of Cork and an opportunity to ring the bells. Music ia provided if you are that way inclined. Church is lovely decorated aswell. Staff helpful and friendly. Worth a visit.
A. A.
The best view point in the heart of cork city. A historic place. Ringing the shandon bells wl b an amazing experience! 5euro ticket needed for going upstairs in the tower! Parking facilities available!
C. R.
Amazing views from the very top of the tower, it was fun ringing the bells! :)
A. B.
Definitely worth a visit, getting to play the bells yourself is amazing. Just be forewarned the way up to the beautiful scenic view is incredibly narrow and in places low, so maybe avoid if you tend to claustrophobia.
E. C.
360° views of Cork. Get to see and ring the bells yourself. Great fun!
I. O. S.
Corks famous Shandon bells very reasonable prices to visit the church and ring the bells. You can climb to the top fabulous views over the city. Very friendly helpful staff. It a must see place

R. O.
You're allowed to ring the bells...and climb the narrow stone stairway to (almost) the top. Great view of Cork city from up there by the way.
J. L.
Not much to see. Outside is beautiful. Inside was closed
C. L.
From where you could have a whole view of this attractive city and to feel all the things had went through your life here. To ring the bell and to climb the tower is a must-do thing during your visit. Enjoy~
k. d.
One of Cork's most recognizable landmarks Shandon Bells & Tower is a must visit place. You can ring the bells to a variety of tunes. The observation balcony offers 360° panorama of Cork City spanning from Dublin Hill to Marina, to St Finn Barre cathedral, to UCC and to Knocknaheeny. Really worth the visit!
M. “. b.
Has a wonderful feel of old Ireland in and around
S. M.
Beautiful stained glass windows set this church apart from the rest. You can pay to climb the tower and ring a tune on the bells.
T. F.
You can play a tune on the bells, if you are claustrophobic I would not suggest going past the rining of the bells as the stairs get quite steep and tight, overall great.
A. O.
Enjoyed the view from the top of Shandon bells. Loved the ringing of the bells. The climb is not for the faint hearted because it is steep and some agility required.
N. O.
A really interesting experience with great views over the city, great tour guide. Make sure it's on your list of must visit places in Cork.
W. K.
The locals must hate the place.
Its a working church and a tourist attraction. When services aren't taking place you can climb up to the bell chamber the ring the struck bells (as in a hammer strikes the bell rather than the bells swinging and hitting the bell due to gravity)
This means that many try to play tunes, badly, by yanking the ropes.
All the time.
Usually badly.
So its fun to do, but not for the locals to hear.
You can also climb through the belfry (warning, idiots ringing bells while you are 2 feet from them) on to the balcony above the "four faced liar" clock tower for a 360 degree view of the city below.
D.
Amazing views of Cork - if you're lucky to visit on a sunny day. Great experience and interesting history. It is also super central and easy to get to.
M. V.
Great clock and bell. The climb to the top is fun for kids and adults. Make sure that lady at the front desk 'remembers' that you've paid and gives you earmuffs.
R. G.
Had a fantastic weekend in Cork and this was one of the highlights. Were you can get a fantastic view of the city and beyond. Also have a go at ringing the bells yourself.
B. P.
Nice place to see cork..
A. D.
Very much worth a trip. Great view from the Bell Tower (but a tricky climb), and you can even play the bells yourself.
S. R.
played Fere Jacques on the bells😊 church under restoration, climbed the stairs to the top to see the city from all directions. Enjoyable way to start our day in the oldest Cork neighborhood.
C. H. “. W.
Good place to visit when in Cork, can be challenging when going upstairs, but the view is worth it. Bear in mind it doesn't open for public to go up to the top full year.
B. D.
Great to visit. Brought my kids along to ring the bells and climb the tower. Just as I remembered from my childhood. Loved it
J. B. H.
Good. Were able to ring the bells (there was a small pamphlet provided with simple music to follow). But are the neighbors fine with the bells "always" ringing?
P. J. O.
Beautiful church with really interesting ancient books (early 17th C) such peace & quite in middle of the city. Until someone e starts playing on the bells!!! WHAT A TREAT !!!!

b. (. C.
Shandon is a historical monument in Cork City. It is protected by laws preventing buildings being built to big around it so that it is visible from Cork. It’s itself.
H. V.
Church is beautiful on the outside but not very special inside. The best part was the climb to this church and the view you get from up here.
J. R.
Cork’s most iconic landmark. Climb the tower for a spectacular view of the city.
D. E.
I was monitoring my house next door to the jack lynch house that barry cullinane built and I rescued a painting from the yard that he painted. He's an artist and so am I. He told me I could have it a long time ago.
M. M.

(Translated) The ascent to the bell tower, with a round plan, is in itself worth the visit. However, the church also has beautiful stained glass windows and other works of art and the cemetery is fascinating. Friendly staff and toilets present
(Original)
Personale gentile e toilettes presenti

(Translated) Very quiet place, reachable from the center by climbing some small stairs which can be accessed through a small gate. The entrance to the church is free for access to the ground floor but if I want to climb the bell tower that from access to the clock you have to pay 5 euros per person. Very quiet is the outdoor area to the garden.

(Translated) Fantastic panorama from the top of this bell tower!
Fun to ring the bells, there is even a lectern where you can find songs to ring!
Narrow stairs, not suitable for those with claustrophobia and at some point they also become low. But it is worth it for the fantastic view of Cork from up there!
(Original)
C. T.
(Translated) For only 4 euros you can easily climb the tower and have a fantastic view over the city. The church is not very rich compared to the others but the bell tower is worth visiting!

(Translated) One of the must-see things when you come to Cork!
From the church tower you get a great view of the whole, hilly city.
The bells are also something special here, as you can make them ring yourself.
A “music book” is available for this purpose!
If you are claustrophobic, you should avoid the tower, as the ascent is narrow.
(Original)
R. B.
(Translated) This tower is a few cider from the cathedral of Santa Ana. It is considered the bell tower of the cathedral. It was a long way up and the truth was not worth it. These buildings are very removed from the city center.
(Original)

(Translated) Interesting church where its interior is full of rainbow flags of the LGTBI movement.
It has a visitable tower (€ 5)
On its first floor you can ring the bells.
In the second you see the machinery.
In the third one you hear the bells (they give you some ear protectors) and you access the terrace by a very narrow wooden stairs where you have to shrink to pass.
Upstairs you have fantastic views of Cork.
(Original)

(Translated) Although we had the bad luck that it was very bad weather, between rain and wind, the views from the terrace of the belfry are beautiful! On the first floor, you can make songs with the bells. Like star wars, Lord of the rings, game of thrones ...
(Original)
E. B.
(Translated) The first floor can be visited for free. There are some nice models inside the chapel. If you want to visit the clock tower you have to pay. If you are students, the price is lower. You have to show your university card. The bells cannot be rung at the moment, I suppose it is to avoid possible infections by COVID 19. The views from above are impressive. You can see all of Cork.
(Original)

(Translated) Beautiful Anglican church. If you pay € 5 you can have incredible views and ring the bells. A pretty nice experience
(Original)
Preciosa iglesia anglicana. Si pagas 5€ puedes tener unas vistas increibles y tocar las campanas. Una experiencia bastante bonita

(Translated) Pretty the idea of making the bells ring to visitors, especially for children. View from the other side of Cork.
(Original)
F. C.
(Translated) Pro:
- It is possible to ring the bells of the tower personally, at any time of the visit and for any song (or noise: D) you want to perform. But try to respect the ancient place where you are.
- Interesting the plan with the mechanism of the clock (even if the faces of the bell tower show nicely 4 different times), and the bell room (equipped with ear muffs).
- Nice view of the city!
Versus:
- No one noteworthy.
5 euros well spent!
(Original)
Pro:
Contro:
- Nessuno degno di nota.
5 euro ben spesi!

(Translated) More a chapel than a church. Very modern and small. Free entry.
You can then pay 5 € to ring the bells, very nice and climb to the top (beware it is crooked) to enjoy a 360 view of the city, ideal for some photos if the weather allows.
(Original)
P. T.
(Translated) The church itself doesn't say much.
The beauty, however, is the possibility of ringing the bells and taking a tour to the top of the bell tower.
The last flight of stairs is very narrow.
Not everyone will be able to face it
(Original)
A. G.
(Translated) A church with a bell tower, where you can ring the bells yourself. In addition, you can climb into the tower and sit directly under the bells (wearing headphone necessarily!). The residents make me a bit sorry. The church itself is not very exceptional.
(Original)
F. B.
(Translated) On a historical level, it is worth it, especially for how and when it was built. At the architectural level you do not miss anything, if you have plenty of time it is a good visit, but it is not very worth it since it is quite far from everything and is a little difficult to access and you would get too far away from everything.
(Original)
P. M.
(Translated) Must visit. Note: the climb to the top for the panoramic view is fantastic but it is not advised for people with reduced mobility or of older because there is a very narrow point where it is necessary to turn the body to pass.
(Original)

(Translated) More adventure than it seems at first glance. A trip here is worth the wage. The building is impressive, but not as piercing as the view from above, at the top, above the rooftops of Cork. However, you will not be rewarded until you have made the ascent, which is nothing for fearful, claustrophobic and unfortunately not for strong shoulders. It's narrow, steep, low and very tight. The view as I said breathtaking from above. Enthusiasts are also needed for the descent to the nice ladies at the "reception".
(Original)
