Hazel chocolate mountain is a cute little cafe, along with a chocolate factory.
You can do tour and tasting and it’s brilliant for kids. It’s a 45 min tour and it takes you through the whole process.
After your tour you can pop into their cafe for some yummy hot chocolate and treats.

Love the place. In the middle of nowhere, beautiful small boutique cafe. Coffee was great, cakes are yummy. However the hazelnut cake was bit dry. The hazelnut 🍩 doughnut was phenomenal.

I would have given this a higher rating only for the chocolate was really expensive. There is no need to charge €2 for one small chocolate, hand made or not.

Have been on the way to Moher Cliffs and drove by this little treasure.
The food is tasty and all looks so cool.
But still some critics:
- Why is paying only possible cashless?
I mean, some people (tourists) have to pay fees when paying with a foreign credit/depit card.
- Two of three restrooms have no toilet seats
- Some cables are looking out of the wall, looks like the building is not finished

I really liked the cafe.. well kept and maintained. They have nice coffee and they show you how they make chocolate as well.. Nice small and quick stop place..

We accidentally came across Hazel Mountain Chocolate and were delighted as the cafe is one of the best I have ever been to in Ireland. Great coffee and the most delicious cakes! There is also the chocolate factory (marshmallow chocolates a must) and a really nice gift shop with lovely Polish crockery. This is a gem of a place in the heart of the Burren!
I. V.
lovely place , excellent stuff , fabulous chocolate but only one advice " do not call coffee "organic coffee" when is far away from coffee. warm milk with coffee flavour.
V. B.
Stumbed upon the Hazel Chocolate Mountain enroute to Doolin, great stop off. You can see where they make the chocolate, the smell is intense!
B. S.
Very nice chocolate factory. Quality chocolates which you can pick and choose and fill up a box.
S. O.
Fantastic experience! Loved the private tour of the factory and chocolate taste testing. Just a lovely experience!!

Excellent factory. Native irish chcolate experience frim bean to chocolate

We stopped in here very early one damp and dreich morning. It was quite by accident as we were going to drive past, but so glad we stopped. Due to covid restrictions we couldn't sit in the cafe as it was take away only, but that was grand as we had our delicious hot chocolates to take away and were treated to a quick tour around where they make the chocolate and then had a good look around the chocolate shop and gift shop. The staff were lovely and more than accommodating even though we were very early! Well worth stopping by for a chocolate or a coffee. We will no doubt be back when we are down that way again.

It's beautiful, the surroundings, the building etc. Our tour guide Katie (pictured) was lovely and informative. Lovely way to pass a hour and very tasty chocolate.
The only fault I can find with it was the price. It costs €27.06 for 2 tickets and the tour takes a half hour and your money isn't redeemable if you want to buy anything in the shops or café.
Due to covid the cafe only does takeaway beverages and selected baked goods for you to have either outside or take back to your car. Again very tasty.
I enjoyed it, along with my boyfriend, I would recommend it.
S. W.
Loved the talk about the uniqueness of this factory... Got some free tasters... Bought a dark chocolate with seaweed and a bar of milk chocolate to take home... Both were divine
On the day we got an iced chocolate with salted caramel. Wow! Beautiful place to stop for a bite and bring home some tasty chocolate
M. J.
Great chocolate shop and café! The staff is as very friendly and explained how their chocolate is made. We bought chocolate for the family and got a coffee for takeaway. Surely the prices are higher than your average supermarket chocolate but their chocolate is so much better than the ones you can buy elsewhere.
J. M.
This was such a charming find we didn't expect. Part of your adventure is the journey and we found this chocolate haven on our way to Co.Clare . Highly recommend it. Even in a world of covid it was a lovely place to get a delicious mint hot choc and buy some stunning pieces of chocolate to try at home. Thank you for such a pleasant morning even with the non stop rain you brightened our morning . Can't wait to come back to enjoy the cafe when coivd has passed.
L. D.
Coolest little spot quite literally in the middle of no-where! Lovely coffee & cakes. You can see the chocolate being made through a big window in the shop! A must see if you're in the area. The costal scenery on the way is breathtaking!
C. P.
Great stop on the way to Galway! Cute shop and Cafe. They take the product from bean to bar which is so cool. The cacao Latte was really good. And we bought an obsene amount of chocolate to sample on our tour of the country and so far we are impressed! The truffles are not only beautiful but they are high quality and tasty!
V. Z.
Must stop on the way to Galway! Their chocolate never disappoint
D. M.
Very cool experience. Beautiful location. I had a very helpful guide, had an experience of tasting lots of different chocolates and full descriptions of each. You can watch the chocolate making process too which is unique.
Highly recommended.

I've been here a few times now when I'm bringing friends or visitors to the Burden as it's a convenient location and one of the fee places to get good food when on the way unless you stop in one of the town's where it's usually quite busy.
And it's a real mixed bag of experiences. In the chocolate shop there is an older gentleman who works there, didn't catch his name but he is excellent. Warm , friendly and knowledgeable I really enjoyed chatting with him.
But the cafe is another story. The staff could at best be said to be bad at their job, at worst pretty much rude or condescending.
The young lad that took our order seemed like it was the first time he had ever written something on a page let alone taken an order. And of course it was wrong.
The rest of them quite frankly don't seem to give a s$%t about anyone whether it's busy or quiet. They seem to think they're saving lives not selling chocolate products and we should be thankful to them for letting us be there.
I'll probably go again because the food and the hot chocolates are good but they badly need a whole new set of cafe staff.
D. G.
Lovely place to stop n have a coffee n cake.then buy some of there lovely chocolate. Great spot
J. D.
Very peaceful location, wonderful chocolate selection and lovely coffee and cake

This was an amazing day
Cycling from the bottom of Ireland to the top of Ireland with Lucy for the Irish Youth foundation. The lady severed 30 people with amazing Coffee, fresh baked tarts and cake but must of all with a smile on her own.
Amazing !!!!

I'm told this has been upgraded recently and it certainly is a fabulous space right now!! the outside is clean, elegant and very stylishly presented. Inside is also a top end interior though you have to excuse the mildly crude suspended track lighting system. For such a high design space a better produce could be found (see wink.ie)
I actually only stopped in for a brunch and didn't tour the retail spaces at the back though I'm told, while simple, there was a really nice effort put in by the bloke in charge to entertain the kids and show them how it works.
For me I had a sandwich and selection of treats. The coffee was flawless (I like a velvet smooth 65deg heat flat white). the sandwiches, artistically wrapped using twine, were the perfect balance of showy and tasty. I hate style over substance but this delivered on both.
The treats we good and not too huge so you could indulge in a selection. I would come back any day!!
T. K.
On our way to Cliff of Moher, we accidentally discovered this good place - Hazel Mountain Chocolate. At here, you can experience the making process of real chocolate. The staff there is patiently to show and explain how they make the chocolate from the raw material even you can taste some chocolates made there. The chocolate really tastes good compared with normal chocolate which we can buy from the supermarket. However, i feel like the chocolate a bit pricey and thus only bought few.
C. P.
Location is beautiful and they clearly take pride in the presentation of their chocolates. However, it’s very expensive and the chocolate itself was average. The truffles are very small and €2 each and were all underwhelming.
S. S. D.
It would have been nice to get a small sample of the chocolate, the chocolates cost €2 per chocolate or €24 for a full box. They also don't accept cash so no point in visiting if you don't have a card (as I didn't due to changing bank accounts). The chocolate was tasty and produced from imported cocoa beans but very expensive
А. М.
Amazing cafe, all gluten free cakes, ( they're actually tastier than regular cakes ) with many dairy free choices too and everything is baked on site. We waited for our order a little bit longer than we would normally wait but those guys are buzzy busy. The deserts were worth the wait!! Even though staff was very rushed they were extremely friendly and polite. We had more time to chat to the girl in the shop, we got a little tour and samples, the shop was busy too but she gathered everyone and told us about how they process cacao into chocolate. She was very passionate.True gem
K. M.
Stopped here for a look around and ended up having a hot chocolate. There is a great selection of cakes and even different types of hot chocolate. The shop and factory are a nice addition
v. f.
Tucked out of the way and off the beaten track but worth the visit. Chocolate factory, craft shop (woolens & pottery) and great coffee shop. All laid out beautifully and in lovely surroundings. Staff pleasant and helpful. Some items are expensive to purchase. Coffee and cake delicious (lemon meringue pie and cappuccino )
P. W.
Killers stuff for this location. Brownies won the competition and will come back for more. Small place but great to drop in if you are in the area. Loved the attention to detail (no plastic spoons for example).
G. M.
The cafe & shop are comfortable and beautiful, they are minimal in design and the staff are very friendly and have a good understanding of the products. The chocolate is very nice. There are vegan options for everything in the cafe and shop. Would recommend to a friend and will be visiting again.
l. D.
Can't say enough good things about this chocolate shop. Chocolate is fabulous and of. Excellent quality. We sampled some before we bought. Chocolate is not cheap but it is the real deal. A beautiful after taste in your mouth for a while afterwards. If you have a gluen and dairy intolerance than this is the place to get drinking chocklate and eating chocklate. Some lovely flavors like pepper mint' plain and salted honey as well as many more. Great place. You can even see the chocolate being made. All I know is my wife was happy leaving this place.
C.
Amazing place in such a remote area. It was a surprise visit that brought me here. I absolutely love the style of it and the layout and especially the organic produce which I believe is very important. The history of the place is amazing to know and read about and I would love to go back and see the workers in the chocolate factory making the chocolate. The lady in the shop was super nice (we were still there after closing hours!) and also the lady that served us was so nice and friendly. I was so happy with the food also it was amazing! I also love how they cater for everyone as they had a choice of alternative milks available. The hot chocolate there is amazing and they have a variety of different hot chocolates to choose from. In very excited to return there again and I'll definitely be bringing some friends there with me. Such a great experience. I'd highly recommend it to everyone!
E. T.
We were lucky to drive past through this place and we knew we had to turn around! A fantastic f&b menu that is not following the norm, interesting flavours for who loves their belly and beautiful decor! Check the gift shop and working space at the back, try a raw cocoa bean! Hidden gem, really!!
P. O.
Amazing coffee/hot chocolate drink and hot chocolate available here.
Cakes are predominantly gluten free and best I've ever had so much so bought their amazing cookbook.
Beautiful outdoor seating on warm summer day.
As if it wasn't good enough there is the shop to buy loads of delicious treats.
#glutenfree

Came here for some tea on the way from The Burren Nature Sanctuary as it was raining quite badly and we had to take shelter from the rain.
It’s odd that such a lovely little place is so smack in the middle of nowhere. The interiors are very warm and inviting, almost like someone’s living room.
I had the carrot cake which was a ginormous portion. The hot chocolates seem like a meal in itself so I would choose one or the other!
Afterwards we wandered around to see the chocolate store and got a small box of hand selected chocolates to take back.
Recommend if you’re in the area, especially if there is bad weather!
T. F.
Great chocolate shop. We stopped by and we're offered samples of chocolate of different cocoa beans. The truffles were particularly tasty. There is a cafe attached that serves coffee and pastries. Be sure to pull over in the large lot downhill for a view of the ruined tower house.

Loved the place . Amazing chocolates

This was a great place to stop for a treat, after walking the Cliffs of Mohr. The tea and hot chocolate was wonderful, as well as the cakes in the cafe. The Chocolate shop in back, has a very nice man who does a short tour. You also get to try some tiny pieces. You can watch them creating chocolate creations as well.
S. B.
This place is awesome. You can see them make the chocolate and the staff explains the whole process. The chocolate taste good and that is what matters most.
P. S.
As well as lovely chocolate, the coffee shop and its environs are very tastefully done, the staff are great too, plenty of parking and a great place to stop if visiting Corcomroe Abbey.
I. O.
Great coffee shop with the most amazing pastries (hazelnut croissants) and the coffee is delicious too. Located in fabulous view of the Burren.
D. M.
Actually got to tour a proper chocolate factory and see how chocolate is made from start to finish and taste it along the way. Incredible experience and tastes!
P. B.
The big milk chocolate tablet, covered in hazelnuts, petals, honey, and honeycomb is unbelievably good. You'd think it can last a month - given its size - me and my girlfriend chew through it in an afternoon. These guys know what they're doing and the shop/factory is beautiful, totally worth a visit. If it is too far from home, just order some of their delicacies, until you get the opportunity to go and meet them in person. You won't regret it, unless you have a scale at home... I just dumped mine 😸
D. M.
Luckily on our way back from the Cliffs of Moher we saw the signs to this gem. Staff was pleasant and very helpful when explaining the things they offer. The food, delicious and presented elegantly and was full of different flavors that compliment each ingredient used. Highly recommend this cafe and the chocolate factory in the back as it is nice pit-stop before your journey back to your final destination.
K. M.
Lovely little spot to visit and see how the magic happens. A little expensive but really nice experience. Many vegan chocolate options 💚
e. c.
I visited here with my husband and we had coffee and some cake in an old little house in bell harbour. Pleasant staff. In their Galway store I make a beeline to get their chocolate brownies. Their chocolate bars are lovely, approx €6 + They don't take cash, card only.
L. W.
Some superb chocolate made on premises and a wide range to choose from in the shop. Excellent vegan choices.
S. J.
I had been at the shop, that is to die for with all those gorgeous chocolates, but the coffee shop with the delicious soup and the awesome cakes and hot chocolate should be a must for every body visiting or living around the Burren.
R.
Very warm welcome and explaining to us on the process of their chocolate. They very generous to give us try a lot of different type of chocolates. Of course, we do buy as a souvenier to our families and friends. Which is very special and unique gift compare to those chocolate that sell in the grocery .
J. C.
We took a slight detour to try the chocolate and based on other Irish chocolate factories we visited, we were excited to try it. The flavor of the chocolate we bought just wasn't as great unfortunately. Cafe was closed. Their store and factory are beautiful though.
m. f.
Nice little cafe with out door sitting area and nice little cakes and treats inside was hoping for ice cream on such a hot day but unfortunately they don't do ice cream. Nice little choc shop next to it also.
O. G.
This is one of the most amazingly tasty chocolate places and its pure Irish chocolate and filled with pure chocolate. Amazingly awesome favourite place this month ❤👍😁 oh and the staff were just pure lovely and so sweet and helpful. It was better than willy Wonka lol 😉❤👍
F. V.
In the middle of nowhere you'll find this small chocolate house. Very clean and tidy, I had a salted honey hot chocolate, which was impressive!
M. D.
located just off the route to the cliffs of moher, this quaint little shop has some of the best chocolate I've ever tasted. the craft shop is easy to maneuver and the gentleman working in the chocolate shop was very knowledgeable of his craft. He explained how they make the chocolate in their shop and a bit of history as well. the stop is certainly worth it if you are able to on your way out.
L. Y.
A good stop to see how they hand make chocolate, but they are very expensive. 2 euros for a small truffle. If you are pressed by time, skip.
S. (.
Chocolate is excellent. The chocolate shop and exhibition are very good too. You have the added benefit of a cafe serving drinks including cold chocolate drinks.
V. N.
The place is simply amazing. We have accidentally discovered it on the way to Aillwee cave. The staff is very friendly and knowledgable, the chocolate is delicious and very different from the ones you find in the supermarket. Highly recommended.
V. D.
The staff is very nice and the chocolate is amazing, they also sell cakes in the cafe. If you're looking for a nice place to go out for a while and get some treats that is a nice place to go due to it being surrounded by magnificent scenery
A. T.
Quick stop off on our way home to Dublin.
Spotless isn't the word and the coffee is so good as are the pastries. 👌
W. P.
Good for anyone, but wonderful for GF and DF people! Stumbled upon this place on a Sunday around lunch time. Glad we found it. We have allergy considerations. In the party are two GF and DF and one vegan. They only had one option for lunch a wonderful vegan soup with GF and DF bread (regular bread, too). The desserts were awesome! A ode variety of GF and three GF and DF - the chocolate cake, fika, and the lemon blueberry cake. They also have almond and cocoanut milk for lattes and flat whites.
M. P.
Great visit, amazing to see how they make chocolate from the coco bean. I have been to other bean bar producers in the US and you would pay twice as much for half as nice chocolate. Great stop well worth it. Try get there before 4.30pm, as it get dark early in west of Ireland.
F. O.
Well worth a visit if you're in the area. Bought some lovely hand crafted chocolates and there is plenty of outdoor seating if you fancy something out of the café. Very friendly staff.
S. O.
Lovely staff and amazing chocolate. We happened to see it driving past and we weren't disappointed!
m. p.
Loved it, very different, like a mini Willy Wonka Chocolate factory... The lady in the Chocolate shop happy to explain and chat about the business
S. G.
Absolutely amazing. The chocolate they make is so pure and rich. Some of the best chocolate you'll ever have. They are so knowledgeable and share amazing facts about the history and the way they make chocolate and how it differs from most other chocolatiers. Well worth the stop, even if you have to go out of your way! Such nice staff as well. But that's almost everywhere in Ireland ;)
K.
Go. Here. Make the stop! Was a great impromptu stop, with delicious hand made deserts, teas, hot chocolates, and chocolate made from bean to bar!!
R. C.
Delicious chocolate carefully sourced from Mexico. I love the dark chocolate which isn't bitter at all!
J. D. C.
State of the art, absolutely 100%all round, also the cafe a pleasure to visit and purchase , its a must to visit, enjoy,
F. M.
We stopped here by chance while driving by and it turned out to be one of the best memories from the trip. The whole experience was fantastic and so personal. Everyone was friendly and welcoming. Our tour guide took his time showing us around the factory and telling us the most amazing and detailed stories about himself and the chocolate. Highly recommended if you're in the area!!
D. S.
Very clean, good facilities but cafe a bit expensive and food limited to cakes which in fairness were very nice.
E. P.
Really beautiful place, tasty cakes and good coffee (they have Brazilian coffee!). Worth the visit if you are in the area.
S. D.
The minute we walked in, we got that lovely, comforting smell of chocolate. It’s a lovely place and we were shown exactly how the whole manufacturing process operates. It’s so good to see an independent Irish business like this. Cost wise there’s something there for everyone and I’d prefer to give my money to an independent company like this rather than one of the big corporations. The coffee shop is great as well. Well worth a visit
J. M.
Very nice little place. Say they're one of a few places that go from bean to bar.
P. K.
Hot chocolate for the kids. Really good. Happy kids. Need I say more!? 😁
A. M.
A great selection of chocolate and hot drinks. An ideal stop off for refreshments. And gifts.
S. F.
Lovely, beautiful place with delicious chocolates. Great store to shop for gifts or for a small treat for yourself.
J. K.
The best cafe I have been to! All items on the menu are gluten free and the gf & df chocolate cake is to die for! Definitely stop in here if you get the chance!
V. M.
Some of the best Chocolate I’ve ever had.
Cute stop for a sweet treat and cup of coffee. You get to watch the process through a glass in the shop!
V. P.
A great stop off the beaten path. Yummy artisan chocolate and a cafe. Take a minute and stretch you legs here.
L. H.
Excellent brownie! Staff were friendly and helpful, even gave the kids a demo and explanation of how they make their hit chocolate when they noticed they were curious.
I. B.
Mint Hot Chocolate, WOW, sooo nice
D. O. G.
Great quality but the restaurant staff weren't very engaging - and the choice was limited.
O. S.
Beautiful spot, stunning cafe & shop...beautiful design. Lovely outside area. Perfect for a rendezvous with friends. Staff amazing, tour of chocolate shop & tasting a must!!
E. B.
The chocolate is lovely expensive but worth it. Coffee shop great selection of coffee and hot chocolate
C. H.
Lovely chocolates in many flavours. A hidden treat well worth a visit.
E. V.
I visited in February of 2020 and I couldn't believe it, the best chocolate I have ever had! There was a small tour that went through the bean to bar process and how simple and pure their ingredients are. I brought back (to the US) a jar of the hazelnut spread (nutella has nothing on this!), a large slab to share with coworkers, and a box of whiskey truffles for a gift.... turns out the power was too strong and the truffles turned into a gift for me. I recent ordered a couple jars of the hazelnut spread (seriously, it's that good) and a few bars for sharing over the holidays. While it was more than I had ever spent before I will gladly do it again because this place is THAT GOOD! I live in the Washington DC area and haven't found a chocolate company that can compete with Hazel Mountain Chocolate on a little road in Ireland. AND, they have a lot of vegan options.
A. S.
U must be hir to smell the chocolate in the air is amazing 😍 chocolate and atmosphere is the best quality.
I love it 🍫🍫🍫🍫🍫
S. C.
Such a pretty place in the middle of nowhere. Gorgeous dark and milk chocolate. We visited during the summer and ordered more for Christmas. But wouldn't recommend the mint hot chocolate unless you absolutely love mint, it overpowers the chocolate flavour.
D. G.
Overpriced fancy chocolate. Nice coffee. 30 minute visit.
F. S.
Yummy chocolate in the middle of nowhere. Definitely worth a visit!
T. I.
Totally worth the trip! Amazing chocolates and a wonderful arts & crafts shop. The staff is absolutely lovely and we surely will go back there in the very near future.
A. T.
Even though Charlie was on holiday, a most wonderful experience with an amazing collection of fabulous cakes!
l. d.
U get to see how they make chocolate and you can sit in the organic cafe and have hot chocolate and much more.
G. H.
Very good coffee and delicious cake :)
K. W.
Fun but expensive. The salesman was engaging and quite willing to share the details behind there process.
J. W.
A little costly but beautifully made chocolate. Coffee and cakes are delicious.
D. F.
A lovely place to visit and very interesting history how they make their chocolate.
Found prices very expensive .
S. W.
Absolutely adorable. Off the beaten path but perfect for a pit stop sweet break. Just so cute.
G. K.
Great spot, friendly and knowledgeable staff, excellent product
A. L.
Hot chocolate was delicious. Tried as well the lemon cake... Had to buy another 2 before going away.
F. K.
Just about okay. Barely any staff, disappointing snack, and card only transactions...cash is still legal tender folks!
G. D.
Best chocolate, in a fantastic place
E. S.
If I could give this ten stars, I would! My husband and I were driving through the Burren on our way to Cliffs of Moher, and saw signs for this place. We quickly stopped in and WOW! the chocolate is so good and their story is awesome! We bought about 7 bars of chocolate; I wish that we'd bought 100! This is the best chocolate you will ever have!
K.
this is a wonderful little spot. smells like heaven! and most importantly they sell very tasty chocolate. the cafe sells the most beautiful cakes too. can’t wait to visit again
R. L. (.
Really nice Café and shop of the factory.

Chocolate oasis!
Super friendly staff, wonderful place and tasty everything from coffee to teas and cakes.
Totally recommended!
P. P.
Amazing place, full of good taste , and great people :)
R. J.
Lovely gluten free cakes in quirky little cafe. Had a lovely mint hot chocolate too. Prices were reasonable.
There is the chocolate factory attached to the rear which you can visit and buy their chocolate in the shop, there is also a little craft shop selling woollen and pottery items.
Nice to visit if you are passing.
M. V. M.
One of the best 10 café/chocolate shop in Ireland.
J.
Knowledgeable and friendly staff - ask for a lottle tour to hear all about their process
R. G.
The setting is great, chocolate is very good although on the pricey side. Was disappointed recently with the cafe - quite expensive (€5.70 for a slice of cake!) and the coffee could be better. Worth a trip if you're touring around the burren
E. J.
Went here on a day to Clare from Galway. Delicious hot chocolate! Helpful and informative staff in the chocolate shop and went home with a few tasty purchases. (Good toilet facilities too!).
P. Y.
They have really good chocolate. :D
Satisfy your cravings and chocolate thirsty palettes by stopping by this establishment.
The parking lot:
Can get packed because of all the tourists and tour buses.
In the cafe side:
Of course we had to try their cacao latte and cacao tea, and ended up being satisfied with our decisions. The food was delicious. But nothing compared to their drinks :D
There is a great selection of pastries up front that we did not get a chance to try but looked very tasty and tempting.
The credit card reader failed so we had to pay cash for our meal. No big deal. Just an FYI that this things happen sometimes so it is always a great idea to carry cash all the time.
The Chocolate store side:
Lots and lots of different varieties of chocolate. You can see the lady making the chocolate behind the glass Pretty awesome store. They sell decaf chocolate tea here as well.
L. F.
Lovely interior to relax and have a homemade cake and hot chocolate. All cakes come gluten-free and the carrot cake and berry tart are delicious (all others we will try another time).
The chocolatier in the shop was a lovely man who was full of passion for the chocolate they were making. He gave us samples of every single kind of chocolate they sell and told us about the beans they use and how they process them. You can see the production on site, in a beautifully presented, open factory. The chocolate is not cheap, but has a very high quality! You can not compare it to cadbury's - just like you wouldn't compare a Mercedes to a Hundai ;)
We are definitely visiting again!
S. T.
Very enjoyable visit to this chocolate shop. The Hazel Mountain Chocolate Company has great tasting product and a wonderful company culture. Definitely try the cafe and coffee products as well. Some nice gift products in the gift shop as well. Restrooms on site and a nice break in the burren area of Ireland.
T. M.
Service was grand, coffee okay but not outstanding. Disappointed about menu choices. Only cake available. Nothing else on the menu, so I opted out. The other members of the family had carrot cake and said it was nice, but everything had too much sugar in it for an early morning tea break. Very pricey too for what it was. €20 for pieces of cake, 2 coffees and a tea. I wouldn't rush back.
e. p.
Small place. Couldn't visit the factory after 11.and way overpriced.
D. B.
A nice little cafe / restaurant with very good food. Cakes and coffee are both excellent and it goes without saying that anything with chocolate in it is first class. The choclatiers is well worth a visit and a short tour with a very enthusiastic guide is interesting and informative. Of course you will leave there with loads of lovely hand made chocolate. Well worth a visit and definitely going back soon.
M. W.
Great chocolate and cakes. Enjoyable visit.
G. H.
I am only reviewing the factory:
It was a nice surprise. The chocolate was not the most amazing I've ever had but was a nice addition to our day trip through the area. I would suggest buying the box of mixed truffles instead of the chocolate bars. Would I go out of my way to come here? No, but when I'm in the area, I will stop by.
L. O.
Lovely coffee and I recommend the chocolate with salt and walnuts..yum. Factory shop sells lovely truffles and bars of chocolate that have been made on site.
H. R.
Lovely little chocolate place and cafe, very friendly staff, and the cakes are divine! Do be aware that all the baked goods contain nuts or almonds, so nut allergy sufferers may not find any cakes they can enjoy, but still worth a visit!
S. M.
Hidden Gem in the Burren. Gorgeous Cafe and Chocolate Factory shop
C. L.
Great stop-off for some cake and tea or hot chocolate.
T. B.
Great little spot selling amazing chocolate. Cosy little cafe next door
D. B.
During a guided tour to the Cliffs of Moher, the driver recommended Hazel Mountain as a place to stop along the way. They have a cafe in front, and the chocolate "factory" in around the right side of the building. We were greeted by a friendly gentleman running the front desk who then gave us a tour of where the make the chocolate and explained the entire process from bean to box. We tried some samples and ended up buying 5 boxes of chocolate to take home as gifts. If you love chocolate, I cannot recommend this place enough. You won't be disappointed.
r. s.
Very limited range, for drinks and cakes could do with doing sandwiches or other light snacks. We didn't stay for anything because of the wait time and when I looked the light above our table was full of dust and cobwebs. Factory shop was interesting and to watch actually making the chocolate was a delight.
D. M.
My wife and I stopped by Hazel Mountain Chocolate randomly on our way down the Wild Atlantic Way. We were on our honeymoon, and wanted to see the small gems that Ireland has to offer. I don’t exaggerate when I say that this was one of the finest establishments we visited in the country. Without hesitation, we were beckoned in by the master Chocolatier (whose name escapes me) and taught all the intricacies of chocolate making. He did not hesitate to open packages of their incredible chocolate off the shelf and give us samples. To him, and all the employees there, guests learning about the process of chocolate making comes before a profit. We felt like family there, and even as I sit on my couch in Kentucky, months later, the taste of Hazel Mountain Chocolate brings me back to that wonderful, quaint afternoon where my wife and I were welcomed by the best that Ireland has to offer.

Accidentally stumbled upon this place and found it a highlight of the day. Lovely cafe with farm to table food, much of which was gluten free (we had some delicious brownies/cake to go) and an incredibly interesting chocolate shop! We didn't officially sign up to a take a tour, but got one anyway from the exceedingly friendly gentleman manning the shop. Learned about a ton about chocolate that we never knew and tried/purchased some delicious items. We wished we had more time to spend or that we were staying closer and could have returned. Try the Raspberry Rose Truffle if it's there when you are... delicious!
M. G.
This was a lovely experience and the chocolate was gorgeous
J. F.
Best chocolate in Ireland. Glad we came across this lovely place
C. S.
It is a small place but it smells amazing inside. The staff were very friendly. Im not a big fan of chocolate, but my wife certainly enjoyed the stop. The surrounding area is beautiful. The restrooms were very nice.
J. B.
I bought some of the best hot chocolate for their café here! It's more like melted chocolate with a dash of water topped with fresh whipped cream. The chocolates themselves are delicious, and you can see them making them while you peruse their products. The whole staff is very friendly. I can't wait to come back with my parents.
A. M.
Lovely cafe and great hot chocolate. Nice to see the chocolate being made! Great range of products and gifts. Delicious chocolate :)
E. A.
It's slightly out of the way and somewhat frustrating to reach but this "Bean-to-Bar" chocolate factory imports high quality beans, make their own chocolate from scratch and sell a variety of interesting flavours as well as cocoa tea and coffee. Don't miss their hot cocoa in the cafe, it's amazing.
H. T.
Beautiful Irish business, chocolate shop and cafe. A must stop when in the area
C. H.
Yummy cakes!! Very friendly staff
H. C.
A unique place. They make single source chocolate which they roast the whole raw cocoa beans themselves. One of the sales people gave us a quick private tour of how they made the chocolate (it's very small) with tasting and smelling the beans at different stages. Worth the stop!
T. C.
Nigel was a chocolate expert, both informative and engaging. His knowledge and passion for the process and fine details of the product were of the level you'd expect from an art connoisseur. The chocolate was mind-blowing. The cafe was adorable. We highly recommend this stop!
A. H.
Truly excellent cafe. Wonderful sweets and hot chocolate in a cozy farmhouse environment.
Food is of the absolute highest quality and the service is excellent.
Make sure you check out the chocolate shop too! Their chocolate is amazing and the staff are wonderful.
D. T.
Very cool spot we were told about by a native. Lots of good candy in display, a room with the old candy making equipment, and a room where they currently make candy. I also got a hot chocolate and it was one of the best drinks I had during my visit!
J. C.
Trying to order products online. Previously charged 3.95 and then 5 euros for postage from Clare to Dublin. Recent order is 12 euros which seems very excessive. Trying to find out if it’s an error. No response to multiple email and tried to phone with no success. Very disappointed
Update; finally sorted out and mistake rectified. Got a very swift delivery of delicious dark hazelnut chocolate spread 😊
G. P.
This is a small chocolate factory tucked away in the depths of Ireland.
The basic chocolate flavors are good. I didn't like the experimental flavors, but support them trying to come up with new flavors. Also, they're big on pushing "organic" which is a gigantic scam and a huge drain on important resources, so I'm compelled to give only a mediocre review.
P. M.
Incredible gem, the chocolate is sublime, the staff are super, the gift shop is pricy but beautiful items.
And...the Salter Carmel Hot Chocolate is heaven.
S. F.
Family run chocolate making factory. You get a chance to see this in progress and a beautiful display of truffles, chocolate and hot chocolate for sale. Small gift shop on site and restaurant. Small parking area. The products are fairly pricey.
L. B.
Exceeded expectations. All gluten free delicious cakes. Absolutely delicious, beautiful cafe. Gift shop selling chocolates, foxford clothing and jewellery fromirish designer in mullingar, is polish pottery. Family owned and run. Totally enjoyed our stay.
O. G.
Nice small local chocolate factory. Has a shop and cafe. Got delicious organic hazelnut spread and had lovely spicy hot chocolate in cafe. If you are on your atlantic way, pop in for nice break.
A. K.
What a gem in county Clare! We had delicious lunch and those cakes are mouthwatering (if like me you love cakes it'll be near impossible to decide on one..). Staff were friendly and attentive and special thanks to Luke for looking after us so well. We'll be back!
T. K.
Beautiful place, best service and products
S. M. G.
Small chocolate factory, very cozy!!
R. F.
Diamond in the rough. Often went past the signs for this place, then finally stopped in. A very pleasant surprise. Free samples, lead to a few extra purchases. The owner described all about the different chocolates that he sold. Very good, a little pricey, but well worth it.
P. C.
A bit out of the way in the middle of the Burren. Worth a visit if you have an hour to spare. Well signed. Looks like a regular bus stop. Wonderful to see the process of making chocolate from the plain old coco bean. Fabulous selection of quality chocolates.
C. C.
Great place if you want quality chocolate. Be sure to ask the guy there to sample chocolate and to explain the different ones and how to taste them. Great experience.
k. r.
Nice place, nice staff. Pricey enough though.Reccomended treat.
M. N.
Coffee was great and hot chocolate was delicious. Great ambiance. Unfortunately tried the chocolate chutney on the way out and it was absolutely revolting. Ended up almost vomiting in the yard.
R. B. B.
Super cute little shop. Had small area of goods (local pottery and wools). Chocolate shop with samples to taste and explained the differences of caoco from different origins. Fabulous hot chocolate flavors.
M. D.
Truly a diamond in the rough! It's out in the middle of no where but absolutely worth every minute. The story behind the factory, the atmosphere, the chocolate, the food was all more than expected. Being cash as trying to run a card can be difficult with the hole out in the middle of no where but trust me if you love chocolate in all its glory you'll enjoy everything this hole in the wall shop has to offer!
J. Q.
I bought the book the owner wrote on cake recipes- as tasteful as the actual products. There is a lovely area to sit out in and enjoy the full sunshine. It may be a tad expensive but worth it for quality
M.
Best carrot cake I think I've ever had! Signage on the road made us think it was more than a cake cafe and we had actually stopped looking for lunch however we got came and coffee and were not disappointed!!
P. C.
Lovely place, very friendly staff, well worth a visit.
B. M.
Delicious cake and fantastic service in the cafe - very good quality chocolate in the shop and great to be able to see and smell the chocolates being made and helpful, unpushy staff, keen to help and let us try some of the chocolates - which we then bought.
We stopped here by chance - now that we have found it - we'll be back!
M. D.
Nice little store. The lovely shop keeper offers samples of every chocolate. The chocolate itself is delicious. Surely more expensive compared to supermarket stuff but really worth it.
T. C.
Found this little hidden gem when we were lost, trying to find the way to Poulnabrone Dolmen. Temperature was like 6 or 8 degree celsius (felt like 0 with the strong wind), so the hot chocolate tasted extra delicious! Also had a slice of orange syrup sponge cake which went well with our drinks. They had a little bean-to-bar workshop behind the cafe, selling chocolate bars with 50%, 70%, 90% cocoa from a varieties of origins. Got a few bars which were good as souvenir.
M. F.
Lovely little chocolate factory. Unreal chocolates 🍫
c. s.
It may be a little too much on the vegan organic tip but the quality is high the experience is superb the people are beautiful in the country around it is absolutely god-damned stunning. If you're driving to Cliffs of Moher from Galway it's absolutely worth the extra 10 minute drive
C. L.
Based on a recommendation from our server at B&B Petra House, we stopped at Hazel Mountsin Chocolate in the Burren. So happy we took the advice! Tee went directly to the chocolate factory building and were tempted by delicious samples of chocolate sourced from around the world and then roared and ground on site. This result ta in curated chocolate - sold in a variety of formats - bars, baking chocolate, hog cholicate, and individual filled chocolates (truffles and pralines).
Across from the chocolate factory, in a separate building, is the Mercantile, selling accessories such as chocolate melting pots and cups.
There is also a beautifully styled tea room serving delicious desserts and beverages.
We lived it so much, and had already eaten our small box of chocolates, that we had to stop in on the way back to Galway the next day! This time we made sure to enjoy a slice of a yummy tart with tea.
Staff were amazing both times we visited, and the decor and design ( including bags and logos, are spot on!!
If you are visiting the Burren, please stop by to pick up some chocolates and indulge in a baked treat - you won’t regret it!
M. L.
They were happy to give a small tour to just four of us. We loved the experience, and learning the nuances of chocolate. Best chocolate we've EVER had.
M. L.
Only one tour a day that enables you easily to see the process. Parking was tricky when full. Great chocolate and cafe especially gluten and dairy free.
M. o. t. W.
A great stop between Galway and the cliffs. Fantastic food, cakes and most importantly chocolate. Would strongly recommend a stay that includes lunch as food is fantastic, all organic produce with gluten free options. This should be a compulsory stop for people travelling through the Burren. Will be back!
A. R.
Wow! Absolutely delicious. What a treasure, I’m glad we happened upon it on our drive. We tried a variety of their products and ended up buying some for later. The staff were all so friendly and helpful
B. B.

This place is a true 5 rating. The coffee was unnecessarily tasty and strong. The carrot cake, tea, and hot chocolate were likewise very good. The setting and service pleased as well.

This is a must stop on your way from the Corcomroe Abbey to Galway esp if you are passing thru the Burren.
Fresh cakes, and other desserts (gluten free). Teas, coffee and delightful hot chocolates. The chocolate factory was interesting as well as yummy! The tour guide was knowledgeable and quite the chocolatier.
M. P.
