Ordered the eggs benedict. It was pretty good but realised something after I paid the bill… the hollandaise sauce was missing! (Pls refer to the photo) Some fault on my part for not flagging it. But it’s amazing how it can be missed by the kitchen and serving staff… sigh

The bookshelf Coffee House which is situated right off Olivier Plunkett Street is a very nice cozy and warm coffee shop. They do great coffee cakes and also sandwiches. This is place is perfect for on the go want to have a quick lunch but quality food while on work lunch break or even just want a quick lunch this is a nice place to go. It is also very useful to have business meetings before work or even have management meetings where you want to have informal discussions on business. The staff are always so helpful and very nice here. I would recommend this place to everyone.

Great staff! I loved the decor of the place as well. There are 2 floors so if you are looking for a place to study/work on a laptop in Cork then the Bookshelf is a great option. The only downside is I didn't think they had a diverse coffee selection. But the get the basics perfectly!

This restaurant is a beautiful place to eat in the heart of Cork city, either if you just want to enjoy a weekend brunch or have a nice dinner out. Their menu is extremely varied and caters for most people. And every week they have a lunch special that usually brings the taste from Asia, Thailand, China, etc to Ireland.
They have a great brunch menu with lovely homemade pancakes, omelettes, and avocado toast among other delicious choices. They have also the option to order homemade granola and porridge for take away so you can enjoy a healthy and tasteful breakfast while in the office or on your way to work. We are regular customers as we love the coffee and brunch there, but this time we wanted to try the new evening tapas menu.
We were very impressed with the selection as there were plenty options to choose from Mexican tortilla chips with Vegan dips option to garlic prawns or jackfruit burgers. For two people I would recommend to ask for 4 to 5 tapas, and that will be plenty food. You will definitely feel full. As for the desserts the photos speak for themselves, amazing. They were so lovely we didn't know if to eat them or contemplate them. The Head chef Eli has magical hands. The price is a little higher than👍💯👍💯💯👍🤭🤭👍💯👍8

This well-established coffe shop offers good quality cappuccino but at higher cost than average: I got a simple cappuccino and almond croissant: 7 euro. And hence its matter of fact One of the most expensive coffee shops in Cork, even if you find good kind of stuff as they state and It is true, cappuccino was great. However, My preference goes on light weight croissant that wasn't served when I went (this one is filled with lot of pastry but this is a question of personal tastes).

If you want to get an idea of the food they serve, have a look at its Instagram account @thebookshelfcoffee as they are ver active there, and everything you will see it is honestly what you will find in the restaurant.
The staff is so friendly you will feel like home, and they welcome you with a smile. Always. The atmosphere is cozy and warm, perfect for a date or to enjoy a casual dinner with friends.

I sincerely value the Bookshelf. The Bookshelf in of itself is a bit of a rebel. They buy German roasted beans from the Barn. Their espresso machine "The Black Eagle," makes a consistent cup of coffee throughout the day. The staff do their best to insure that you have a memorable experience. Each time that I visit I am greeted with the same warm smiles and welcoming. They know that I have an espresso and that I am willing and eager to learn about coffee. Their brunches are amazing. The new renovations have really brightened up the place.

One of my local favourites. The staff is pleasant and nice! All of them are into their coffees and when asking for recommendations they are extremely helpful and have great knowledge. You need help with your brewing? Ask the staff for some tips and tricks :)

Working over here at the RTE where the Today Show is produced and popped out to get a latte! Friendly staff and great coffee!

Nice space, friendly staff. No sandwiches after 2:30 PM! (4/5 green stars)
I wandered into the Bookshelf café around 4 PM and, after perusing their options, decided on an avocado sandwich with smoked Gubeen cheese and sprouts (€5). Alas, it turns out that they don’t serve food after 2:30 PM. Plan B: tempted by the small pots of homemade jam I spied behind the counter, I opted for a scone instead. When the scone was brought over, however, it came with a little plastic container of cheap-looking generic jam. What are the pots of homemade jam used for then??!! I asked for a decaf coffee but it turns out they don’t serve decaf at all, so I switched to a chai latte. The chai was nicely made, with very good foam and a sprinkling of cinnamon. The latte and scone were €5, combined. The scone, which wasn’t warmed up, was decent but not exceptional – I don’t think it was completely fresh. So, even though it wasn’t my day when it came to food (or decaf) I think it deserves 4/5 stars because of the very friendly staff and the space itself – it has a very relaxed atmosphere, gentle music, armchairs, a sofa, and smaller space upstairs. It’s not surprising that The Bookshelf is a popular place for locals to gather, and it’s also a good spot to read or work on a laptop – free WiFi is available.
I’m giving them 4/5 “green stars” for social and environmental impact. They only seemed to have one vegetarian sandwich option but I like that they used local cheese in it. I was disappointed that they gave me generic jam in plastic packaging when they had pots of homemade jam behind the counter. My chai was made with a mix from Drink Me Chai, a UK company that imports spices from India and in turn supports Pratham, a charity focused on teaching disadvantaged children in India to read. I’d prefer if they used a chai mix that doesn’t contain milk powder (so that the final drink contains only local milk or non-dairy milk). The Bookshelf also sells resusable coffee cups with their logo on it, to help wean people off disposable cups and lids.
Their main focus of The Bookshelf is coffee, centered on their use of beans from Berlin coffee roasters, “The Barn.” The Barn is typical of “third-wave” roasters who take single-origin coffee beans and roasts them lightly. The Barn says they often pay more than 3 time Fair Trade prices for their beans… I do wonder about that “often” clause though. The Barn also say on their site that they don’t list any of their coffee as organic because not all of their suppliers are certified organic and they don’t want to discriminate against their suppliers that are not organic, but they claim that their coffee growing partners care for the planet. I’d like to see The Barn back up these claims with some more hard facts. The Barn also has odd policies in their Berlin stores (no buggies, no breastfeeding, no sugar, no milk) - they come across like they don’t like women/families. Anyhoo, I won’t hold that against The Bookshelf in Cork too much – they don’t have anything against babies or sugar! You can buy coffee beans to go, which come in fairly eco-friendly packaging. Interested in writing green star reviews? If so, contact me!

#Seantheharp and my good self stopped off @the Bookshelf for what my brother claims is the best 'Flat White' in town... I have my misgivings about the flat white thing but like my coffee and couldn't find anything I didn't like... The staff is friendly, the coffee was great, the music was upbeat (South American and Spanish) and the scones were being devoted by those around me...
I think I may have to agree... If you're not into your multi nationals for coffee The Bookshelf is a wonderful local place to have your cuppa... And don't forget to chat with the lovely servers (beautiful Japanese lady at the till and Portuguese server on the floor, Spanish cook having breakfast)... I'll be back... 😊☕👍

Great coffee. Lovely, cozy setting which is very modern. Staff are very nice and service is super. The only thing which I would note is that the coffee wasn’t hot, which was unfortunate. I didn’t want to be a pest at the time, but the coffee tasted great.
W. F. M.
Modern coffee house with super friendly staff and great coffee. There are not too many spaces to sit but many of the seats have a power outlet. Great place to do some studying or work with a cup of coffee.
P. L.
The sandwiches here are amazing, and the scones are too. Good Covid compliance.
B. K.
Excellent coffey and lovley staff.
P. C.
Beautiful coffee , lovely treats and friendly staff !
I. J.
Nice and small coffee place to take coffee or a full breakfast. Vegetarian option included. Amazing poached eggs with avocado and brown bread! Love it!
G. G.
Without any doubt the best cafe in Cork. Their coffee and pastry are of the highest quality and you can really feel the goodness of the ingredients, I always go for a cappuccino with oat milk and it's the best one I've tried over more than 25 cafes in Cork. The prices are on average, maybe the pastry is slightly overpriced but they make it homemade every single day so that's reasonable. The staff is super friendly and professional latte art maker. Top.
R. C.
Nice place for a coffee. Friendly staff.
C. E.
Nice coffee friendly staff what else you need.
w.
Best cappuccino in town maybe. Cosy spot
G.
Really nice place for a coffee and chat. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. The staff couldn't have been nicer to my 5 year old. He was delighted with the extra marshmallows in his hot chocolate too!Seating was a little tight but we found places even though it was crowded. Lovely place!
M. B.
Nice, atmospheric Café with friendly staff, tasty coffee and delicious raspberry-white chocolate scone.
張.
Nice place to write something’s no when you travel alone. Good place when you want to share something with your friends! Nice coffee, nice music and nice atmosphere!
E. S.
It is definitely the best coffee in Cork, atmosphere is super cozy, staff are welcoming
A. Z.
Great coffee shop, Barn coffee is from Berlin and is always of high standard. All espresso based coffees are made extremely well with care and awesome latte art. The pastries were decent - I had a croissant and my girlfriend had a scone - not the freshest but still nice
K. D.
Nice place, friendly engaging staff, tasty coffee and snacks. Will be back ✌🏻
H.
A trendy coffeehouse setting where you can get all your coffee offerings. What drew me here was the offering of a "filter drip". In the states this is called a pour-over and is a good standard in excellent coffee brewing. Solid coffee selection from their roastery in Berlin, good food offerings, and excellent brewing makes this place an excellent recommendation for the more discerning coffee drinker.
k. g.
Does the job. It can be a bit hard to get seating sometimes and the Coffey isn't hot if you add even a small bit of milk. I know that a lot of coffee places do this to turn over people quicker but I do think the coffee here could be served a little hotter. Nothing worse than meeting a friend, having a great chat and going in for your second sip to find you have to fork out another 3-4 euro for a new drink... :(
S. S.
Good atmosphere and nice chat with Portuguese barista ;) tasty coffee. I have to get back and try cakes!
D. T.
A great spot with the best coffee in the city. The scones are ridiculously tasty and fresh - id recommend the raspberry at the moment. Friendly staff, very comfortable seating and just a generally great atmosphere. Great bang for your buck too which is always a plus!
R. D.
Lovely little bistro with a wonderful environment and very friendly staff. The only reason I would give this less than 5 stars was the lack luster food. I had the bookshelf Benedict and was not that impressed. Otherwise a lovely little spot that I would definitely recommend.
S. m. g.
Lovely coffee and very pleasant staff 👍👍🏅🏅
S. P.
Very nice little coffee shop. I always love a place where I feel comfortable hanging out for hours and using my laptop. It has a nice vibe to it and it wasn’t too crowded when I was there, although I assume at times a place like that could get pretty crowded
b. c.
Nice coffee house in a good location. Great for people watching, if you get the window seat. Great coffee and light bites. Staff are a bit snooty because they think that coffee "baristas" are gods gift to the world, but isn't it great for me to know when I go in there that they are not.
k. g.
Delicious coconut latte , and the best blueberry scones in cork ! Bookshelf has everything for everyone. Meat eater? Vegetarian? Vegan ? Lactose intolerant? Don't worry, you will find meal and coffee option for yourself In there. And staff is fantastic.
M. M.
They know their coffee, ask questions they're really helpful
A. A.
This is a really cool, cozy spot with great coffee and treats!
L. S.
Great food, environment, and outstanding service. This eclecticly decorated coffee shop combines the best of modern and nostalgic elements in an extremely clean and organized way. Very nice offerings with the scones the best to be found. Highly recommended by these Americans traveling in Cork.
K. F.
Always an enjoyable and welcoming friendly experience; great coffee, treats in an historic Cork city location
c. s.
Great blueberry scones. But change your hours on Google and Facebook! It says 6.30 but closed up at 5 today.......I had only arrived at 4.30 and would have ordered another tea as I needed to do work on my laptop.
N. V.
Renewed and refurbished, to meet the expectations of the market and new customers. Food and coffee hold by it's own. Great place to read, work, chat or just enjoying Cork. Yet, I still preferred the old layout of the library. It was more authentic.
R. H.
Cork has an abundance of great coffee spots these days and The Bookshelf is right up there with the best of them! Besides their wonderful coffee you can always get very tasty sandwiches and other bits to eat. If your looking for somewhere with a decent WiFi connection also this is the perfect spot!
P. T. M.
The coffee is great here and they have a nice selection of pastries and scones. They do have a breakfast and lunch menu and it looks good. It can be cramped when it's busy but it's one of the nice cafes in Cork.
E. R.
A wonderful cosy small coffee shop. I love it! Their coffee is very nice and the food they offer is amazing! Definitely worth a visit.
D. W.
Cozy, comfortable and great for a chat with friends. Coffee is ok. Ideal if you want to use your laptop in a cafe environment. Staff are friendly.
D. F.
A great place to chill out and have a coffee. The baristas are friendly and skilled and they serve The Barn coffee beans so the quality is obviously a big factor for them!
M. B.
Excellent sandwiches, lovely coffee and a nice atmosphere. It's small, but bigger doesn't always mean better.... except for tea pot sized... tea for 1 is a pot that holds only 1 cup of tea.
s. ..
Really nice atmosphere, nice staff. There isn't the largest amount of seating. However the seating they do have is comfortable. The upstairs area is also the perfect place to read.
I. P.
The ambience is very nice, relaxing and warm, but coffee was a bit disappointing. I was expecting a proper espresso and got a watery thing. The place is nice anyway, if you don't come with expectations of good espresso.
L. O.
I popped in here by chance for a last minute coffee. The girl was closing up but she was kind enough to make me one to go. It was a lovely coffee to. I'll have to revisit another time and experience drinking in there.
V. M.
Lovely place : great coffee, skilled and friendly staff, good atmosphere. What else would you ask for?
Special thanks to Ruben who was amazing and made us feel so welcome!
C. W. N.
Really comfortable atmosphere to enjoy a good cup of coffee and relax. They serve really good matcha latte here, it is my go to place for matcha latte. They have a very cozy and comfortable design.
F. L.
One of my favourite spot for drawing, working or just chilling with friends.
Love their bakery. Eggs royale brunc super tasty. And their scones: my favourite in town!
My sketchbook, their scone and the little table in front of their brightest window is one of those combination I prefer here!
M. D.
Lovely setting to catch-up with a friend, especially if the comfier seats/couch are available. Only negative point would be the music; for a café called the Bookshelf, I'd expect music with which you cane asily read a book but the last few times I've been, there's been this strange mix of modern pop-rock type music which was too loud for my taste, and with which I could barely read a few sentences before being distracted by the lyrics louder that my thoughts on the book I was reading. But maybe this is just me. Lovely staff otherwise and good quality teas.
M. M.
Friendly staff, tasty coffee, great service. All in a great location.
C. L.
Great coffee. Friendly staff. Nice food if hungry
L. N.
Small but lovely place in the heart of the city. Usually they are very busy so it may difficult to find a free table. But it worth to wait for a few minutes! Egg's benedict with a deliceous coffe is perfect for breakfast on Sunday mornings.
M. O.
I liked it here coffee was good but it's not very big so not easy to get a seat when it's busy. But a very eclectic place. Staff are extremely friendly.
M. G.
Always been my favourite coffee in cork. The white cho and raspberry scones are amazing on south mall and the breakfast pizza in the Elysian is the best.
K. P.
Great place and great coffee
L. B.
The bookshelf was a very good coffee house. It was very old school, and cozy. It was a beautiful shop and great place to spend some time drinking coffee, chatting and working/drawing.
A. C. G.
The staff are very friendly - theyve got lovely tea and scones and their toilet is gender neutral
A. S.
Great coffee and outstanding service. Good quality food, alternative snack options available, sugar free or paleo. Probably the best coffee in town.
D. O.
Great coffee (from The Barn roastery in Berlin) - only downside is that the space itself can get very hot (not great if you've just cooled down and showered after the gym and are on the way to the office).
m. r.
It's nice place with some food / breakfast options. I recommend royal eggs with salmon - delicious. Coffee is ok but the medium size is rather small..
B. R.
Quick service, nice atmosphere and good coffee
C. D.
Cosy place for spending the whole morning! Very nice coffee and large variety of brunch choices. Only disadvantage is I can smell the lampblack even upstairs :(
A. D.
Very nice coffee, staff were extremely friendly and overall a nice experience
G. G.
A bookshelf without books.
Nice place, good coffee, large yummy scones but absolutely nothing related with the name. I was hopping a decoration with bookshelves and books, but no. Just to say
S. W.
This is a really friendly place, the Staff especially the main Barista, great coffee no sugar required.
C. L.
Very slow and cold service. A few of the servers didn't seem to know what they were doing. Overpriced but food and coffee was delicious.
M. R.
Nice little place. Would be great if the did baking on the premises for their baked offerings. The coffee isn't bad.
S. H.
Good cake, maybe a little bit too sweet, nice atmosphere
N. Z.
Their coffee is so strong, that after drinking it, my eyes almost popped out. Not sure of it's a compliment or a complaint 🤔
M. W.
The coffee is amazing! Food is also very nice and it helps that the staff were really friendly.
P.
Its lovely,nice cool atmosphere,great coffee,lovely staff.
E. D.
Super cozy coffee shop that'd you miss if you didn't know where to look for it! Only qualm was that for me, it seemed to close a bit earlier than I would of liked / other cafe's close a bit later than this one.
D. L.
Best coffee in town and great cakes. Very cosy place, despite being a small café and always being busy!
P.
Lovely staff, very friendly people working there, and reasonably priced for the quality of food and coffees
C. L.
Good coffee. My only complaint is there are not enough seats. Just a sign it's popular I suppose.
A. M.
Just visited today after moving to Cork, lovely spot with nice seating upstairs too. Friendly service, thanks, looking forward to coming back earlier in the day :)

(Translated) Excellent coffee, with its explanatory note (it feels like a tasting whiskey). Warm and lively place, even a holiday. Brunch, breakfast, coffee cake, a bit of everything and always good quality. We recommend warmly to start the day !!

(Translated) A pearl in Cork. Delicious coffee with excellent service. Scone's always fresh and delicious especially those with raspberry and white chocolate ..... Too bad that they are so small as a place, but perhaps for this reason to recommend. The really nice place ...
