Reviews of Tannery

We recently had our wedding reception in The Tannery and the food and service was exceptional. We couldn't have asked for a better setting. It's such a special venue and I would highly recommend it.
E. T.
We had the mussels and crab creme brûlée for starters. We were both impressed with them and both were delicious. However we started to notice the service was not so attentive when my partner couldn’t get the servers attention to ask for a bowl for the mussel shells.
My partner then had the halibut special for mains and she really enjoyed it. Well cooked, lovely sauce and the crispy kale was a nice touch. I ordered the rib eye steak which was an additional €8. It was poorly cooked and for me was inedible. I left half of it on the plate which is unlike me. The head waiter noticed I hadn’t eaten it, apologised and took the additional charge off.
Overall it's a nice restaurant but maybe known for its seafood, not its steak. So if you go, please order the seafood! You’ll enjoy it.

Lovely night in fab restaurant. The food is amazing. We'll worth a visit

Super experience, fabulous food and lovely friendly staff. The breakfast is also delicious with fantastic local produce. Will definitely be back!!
R. M.
Great dinner, really enjoyed it. Excellent I ingredients, fresh fish, well presented and very tasty.aA lot of imagination in the food.Breakfast the following morning was a step down. Bacon was hard. Poached Eggs hardiah as well! Black and white pudding lovely but thin.

Stayed at Townhouse House last weekend and dined both nights in The Tannery Restaurant.
Townhouse was lovely Spotless and great attention to detail down to milk in fridge, wine glasses and opener. Rooms were serviced which is not happening in many hotels due to "Covid" Breakfast was excellent on both mornings. Lovely staff who were attentive and friendly Dinner on fri night was excellent with great service and excellent food All four of us extremely happy after our meal. Dinner on Sat night was not as efficient Restaurant was very busy but the delay between starter and main course was extremely long and no member of staff came to table to apologise for delay which was all we expected. Food was fab and was worth the wait. Would highly recommend Townhouse and Tannery Restaurant. We will all return
C. M.
Just the perfect dining experience. Every dish was perfection. Cathal, our server, was unflappable! If you are looking for a very special meal and wonderful memories, you will not be disappointed. Make sure to leave room for the delicious deserts and give the crab creme brulee a go!

Very tasty food. Great service. Tasteful decor. Highly recommend.

Food was a bit of a let down for our weekend getaway. always a place we've wanted to visit hence our disappointment. I'm sure it's usually a lot better. Will give the Tannery another go before making up our mind.
C. W.
Great to have indoor dining back, the Tannery didn't disappoint ... Delicious meal and fantastic wine, we are already plotting our next visit. Thanks Paul, Daniel and the rest of the team for a wonderful evening!
B. O.
Fantastic dinner! Had the crab creme brulee which was amazing, then the beef cheek, which was melt in your mouth fantastic. Had the honey panacotta and a calvados to round things off. Staff are lovely. If you're in dungarvan book a table here, it's really worth it.
E. E.
We just had a superb early bird. The staff were very efficient and friendly and the food was absolutely delicious. Highly recommended.
L. R.
Delightful.. Most lovely friendly staff... Food amazing... From start to finish felt totally covid safe... All rules aheard too ... Will most definitely be back as soon as possible. Xxxx
J. R.
Truly excellent restaurant and B&B. Food was amazing, room was lovely. Overall great for a enjoyable treat night.

First time in a restaurant other than as a hotel resident in almost 12 months. Lovely meal and great service. Nice to see a buzz return too.
J. A.
Have to say top class food was excellent and the service excellent 👌
D. M. D.
Really enjoyed our dinner tonight. The staff could not have been nicer & the food was delicious

My wife and I had an evening meal here last week. The food was excellent, presentation was first class, service was friendly and professional, Covid response measures were much in evidence and the carafe of white wine was fruity and complemented the food. Would very much look forward to coming again. We had dishes we could not prepare ourselves and this enhances the dining experience.

Excellent food served by knowledgeable and polite staff. A must visit when in Dungarvan and surrounding area.
C. L.
Lovely building and great food. Even the little biscuits served with the tea and coffee were divine
M. O.
Absolutely exquisite dining experience. I had the 3-course Sunday special and I couldn't fault any aspect of it from start to finish. The staff were excellent and the venue was inviting. I am looking forward to my next visit there.
B. W.
I have just spent 2 nights in the Tannery it was absolutely fantastic, value for money beautiful accommodation, food superb. This is my second time here and cant wait to go again. The staff are all lovely, caring and so polite. Well done to Paul Flynn and team.
J. H.
Absolutely delicious. Excellent service, that felt both relaxed and attentive
A. K.
Absolutely fabulous, great food, great building

The guesthouse was lovely-very clean, comfortable, quiet and Central.. Unfortunately the restaurant didn't live up to expectations. While the menu read beautifully, we weren't blown away by some of the dishes. The mushroom ravioli starter was stunning, however the crab creme brulee was lack lustre and a bit bland. My main (fish of the day)unfortunately was overcooked and had to be sent back. While the staff were extremely accommodating the final dish was again, a bit meh. My partners fish dish of hake was also slightly overcooked and the sauce had dried out a bit ( I feel the dishes might have been sitting out too long before service). So disappointed! Desserts and cocktails, which were both gorgeous, upped our spirits but we were just disappointed that a restaurant with such an amazing reputation wasn't as great as hoped. Staff were wonderful and re the food-might just have been an off night. Not a total miss, but not a great win!

My wife and I had a lovely three day break staying at the Tannery. we stayed there on b &b basis. we had one full dinner which was beautifully presented and the food was lovely. Sadly as recent retirees the lovely food wad a little too rich for us and we dined elsewhere on the two other nights. the range of breakfast options were comprehensive. gluten free for me as a coeliac was poor. toast was as tough as a board. the range of fresh breads was superb and very tasty according to my wife. we had a very enjoyable stay and overall the food is excellent here albeit a little rich for our delicate tummies. accommodation was excellent. Very enjoyable
E. P.
I have known about this place for a long time but never went. The food here is so good and the service matched. We went for Sunday lunch and rather than going for the standard roast, we decided to go for the other recommendations. We were delighted with our choices and I can't wait to go back!
C. F.
Very good food, great price for the set menu. Enjoyed it so much, I am looking forward to coming back again. The portions are not shy. Only thing I would say is that it was very noisy when we where there for a Sunday lunch, group of 10 lady's chatting and laughing loudly, we were unable to hear each other talk.

Last February, we were the lucky winners of a Valentines overnight stay with dinner in Dungarvan’s Tannery Restaurant & Townhouse courtesy of REA Spratt in Dungarvan. What a treat! Our room in the Tannery Townhouse was extremely comfortable & spotlessly clean. Our dinner in the Tannery was exceptional - every dish delicious & special. The staff could not have been more welcoming & attentive. Breakfast the next morning was superb, capped off by the lovely member of staff offering us coffee & homemade cake before we braved storm Jorge & departed for home. Thank you to both REA Spratt & The Tannery for a magnificent prize
H. M.
This place is a foodies delight. Every item we had was super flavorful from the dip served with the bread all the way through to the chocolate fondant desert. The service was equally as warm and friendly. We had Aisling as our primary server and she was a delight, which made the experience even better, however, everyone was terrific. This was our second amazing meal in Ireland. Well done to everyone.
o. t.
A great place to stay. It has style and comfort.
N. O. R.
Stayed overnight in their Townhouse. Bed and breakfast and evening meal. Fabulous food, lovely atmosphere. We had a young male server for our meal who was very friendly, hospitable and added to our experience. Will definitely be back.
D. D.
Had dinner here one night during our stay. Food was excellent, staff very professional & charming. Atmosphere was just great, great buzz in the restaurant. Overall I cannot recommend it enough.
d. s.
The accommodation is quirky. The road traffic noise a bit annoying if you are a light sleeper. The breakfast is excellent. The dinner menu choice is quite limited. The food was not to my taste but my wife loved it. In fairness when the staff notice I had not eaten the main course they offered to change it. When we went to check out the next day the restaurant manager had left word that he had deducted the wine from the bill as I had not liked the main. The staff are the Tannerys greatest asset.
J.
I tried out their tasting menu and they accommodated personal requests without any issue. The restaurant itself is really nicely laid out making it feel comfortable but certainly elevated.
The staff were lovely, polite and very knowledgeable about what they were serving.
The food was delicious, can't fault any of the dishes I had.
J. C.
Had lunch there last week I had the soup and seafood chowder it was delicious and so filling and we got our food served very quickly. They also have European and UK sockets so it is very suitable for tourists and indeed locals. They also get their fish straight from the bay quite literally 2 meters up the road so it is as fresh as could be! Staff were very helpful and nice the woman who served us was lovely was so willing to help with anything. Would highly recommend to anyone lovely spot
S. H.
Great food, great service and a great evening!

Amazing. Great food and service was great

Great experience once again at the Tannery. Meal and service was fantastic as we always come to expect when we come home from Sydney. Staff were wonderful, friendly, very informative and professional throughout. We had great fun trying to book a table as the staff were attending end of season party. Really appreciated the free drinks as a result and thanks Màire and all. We will definitely be back for our visit the next time we return from Australia. Can't wait.
Cheers Eddie and Caroline

It may be difficult to get a booking here, and it's not cheap but it is well worth the work and expense of having a night in the Tannery.
The food is exquisitely prepared under the supervision of the owner, whose wife oversees the efficient service provided to each customer.
Added to this is a wonderful wine list and tastefully decorated environment.
C. C.
The food was superb. The freshness was so evident and the hard work that goes into it. Staff were very professional and dedicated. Rooms need a little more luxury for the price being charged.
S. F.
Impeccable service, impeccable food, impeccable atmosphere. Can't wait to be back and bring my family. Loved every minute.
D. M.
Wonderful and peaceful stay, safe to boot! Staff are wonderful
J. J.
Amazing quality food.
This restaurant is my favourite in Dungarvan, visited after a suggestion from my father and wasn't disappointed.
Local ingredients all across the menu, happy to give 5 stars
M.
Best meal we had in dungarvan. Great service and excellent food. The plaice was beautifully done. The set evening meal is quite good value for the quality. My son had the ribeye and it was delicious too.
T. M.
I have to say one of the best restaurants I have ever been in. The food was so good you just have to book in and take my word for it. You haven't tasted food until you've tasted this food. Seriously tasty. Also the staff are extremely friendly and helpful.
A. P.
We visited the Tannery last night and I must say the food was excellent
However with the current Covid 19 I feel not enough is been done to reduce the spread of this terrible disease
On a number of occasions during change over condiments were removed and replaced on the table without been sanitised
Staff were not Using sanitiser and clients were not using masks when moving about the building
Staff removed and returned my card to me without wearing gloves
They need to get their act together
C. G.
Great service and food but meals served in little frying pans I would prefer to see meals served on plates
A. M.
Beautiful food and excellent service.
C. L.
Just had a beautiful Sunday lunch. Everything was melt in the mouth. The service was great. Highly recommended.
L. B.
Beautiful food served in a very relaxed professional manner.
d. p.
What a lovely place. Food is second to none. Service is fantastic
C. H.
Cold creme brulee for starter and dessert, a delicious maincourse, chocolate fondant that's nearly solid in d centre and burnt around d edges. I had higher hopes unfortunately. The standard in Ireland has increased over the last 10yrs but sadly this place doesn't have the consistency across all 3 courses I'd expect from a top restaurant.
A. G.
Excellent food, great service and lovely ambience The G&Ts to start with were sublime, Hendricks served with Thomas Henry tonic, slices of cucumber and cucumber syrup! Even the homemade bread and butter were a delight Will definitely go back when in the area
J. S.
Lovely small restaurant with everything what you can like :) nice staff and great cooker's
D. M.
Excellent, eclectic menu. Superb service. We had a party of 8 with a few interesting allergies and the chef was able to accommodate all.
J. P.
Food was excellent and the staff were very polite. I can see why it has such amazing reviews.
A. F.
Excellent food but unfriendly and pretentious. You are made to feel that it is a privilege to eat in their restaurant. I have had 3 disappointing experiences; there wont be a fourth.
N. N.
Food is fantastic and the main reason we chose to stay here. The accommodation is lovely and spotlessly clean but the walls between the rooms are like paper, we could hear word for word what the guests in the room next to us were saying.
P. M.
Fantastic food, service ,ambiance, the complete package.
H. F.
A pleasant experience but the food did not meet the expectations. Waitstaff were lovely but service was slow. Wines were delicious.
P. B.
Attentive service & really nice lunch, my singular semi complaint was that the crab creme brulee could have done with more crab
S. F.
So lovely to come back here.. My last visit was over 10 years ago. A fantastic vegetarian menu was served in a friendly & relaxed atmosphere! I won't wait as long to come back again!!
A. D.

Townhouse accommodation fabulous, heat in room unbelievable. Had to turn radiators off. Had meal in the restaurant on night of stay. The food was sublime. Very nice atmosphere in dining room and staff couldn't have been more helpful. The breakfast the following morning again lovely, great flavours in full Irish. The homemade brown bread was to die for. Would highly recommend.
L. O.
The best restaurant in Ireland amazing. Service. Anything we have ever ordered is a culinary delight. Xxx

After a 10 year gap, I finally ate again here recently. Thrilled to see they are still at the top of their game. Very busy on a Tuesday after a bank holiday which tells you they are doing everything right.
D. W.

Had a fantastic night at the Christmas kitchen supper great food lovely location and supper atmosphere highly recommend it as a different type of night then stayed in the beautiful rooms overhead and was really impressed with the little touches, fresh water in fridge carton of fresh milk for your cuppa and a bottle opener if u forgot the screw cap vino and ear plugs in case you have a snoring partner finally all the staff were brilliant so friendly and good at their jobs definitely be back again

absolutely beautiful restaurant. food delicious, staff excellent
N. a. V.
The atmosphere is modern and bright which feels relaxed and you know you will be served great food. Service was friendly, responsive, and server knew the menu well. I had a salted caramel martini which was absolutely delicious. Highly recommended. We had the crab creme brulee starter which was divine. We also both chose the fish of the day main (no photo as we were very in the moment and forgot!). Every element on the plate was cooked to perfection with utmost attention to flavour. I imagine every other choice would be equally delicious. Finished with dessert wine, coffee and dessert. We had the chocolate peanut butter dessert which managed to taste rich and luscious while still being light in texture. The gooseberry and elderflower semifreddo was light and a little tart mellowed by the Italian meringue and not too sweet. Overall we adored this meal and hope to come back again. This restaurant exemplifies modern dining that is relaxed and accessible yet presents food that satisfies the palate that understands and enjoys fine fresh food made with respect and care. The food is moderately priced for the quality at approximately €75 euro each for 3 courses and drinks. They have other set menus at off peak for even better value.
M. I.
Perfect visit on a bitterly cold evening. Staff were a delight to deal with, and we couldn't fault the food - the fettuccine with wild mushrooms was my highlight. Spotless toilets too - highly recommended and really set us up for our journey back to Cork - thank you.

(Translated) A gourmet restaurant where the food is exquisite, but where the staff is more than tense, especially between them in fact, because with the customers, whether you speak English, Polish or French, there will always be a server to answer you with a smile but when the conversations are with the kitchen, that we do more than hear when we are at the bar, the sound goes up a notch and the tone is far from being suave ... Too bad and especially embarrassing !
