She is very fair, and has some excellent mnemonics to make your driving safer, easier, less stressful, and more consistent. In the end, she prepares you superbly for the driving test.
Her support and services are end-to-end, from the first lesson all the way through the test date, including use of the school vehicle (for a fee) if you need it. I passed on the first attempt, and she maintains a 100% pass rate. She invests her time, her experience, and her heart into her students, and is genuinely on the journey with you for the whole duration. She came highly recommended, and I can't say any more. She's the best you'll find in the Dublin area. Thank you Kathleen! Words aren't enough.
T. O. S.This is a review that is long, long overdue! I did my lessons with Kathleen back in 2016/2017 and honestly I needed them! I had previously completed lessons with another school in another location & for the first few weeks Kathleen spent her time getting me to unlearn the bad habits and understanding the 'why' behind it. Kathleen had so much patience and explained her lessons in a logical (and often funny!) way. She is someone whom I have recommended to friends looking for a driving instructors and someone whose book I have advised my younger sister (who is based in Cork who can't get lessons from Kathleen) to purchase as it will help her that way too. Kathleen is an investment that you can't go wrong with!

I was nervous starting out and I have to say that Kathleen was excellent for putting me at ease and getting me past the mental roadblocks I was setting for myself. Kathleen was the 4th instructor I had over the years, and I always gave up previously as I found driving lessons to be frustrating and a waste of time. From my first lesson with Kathleen, it was clear she had a completely different approach, I left every lesson feeling positive and that I was learning and progressing and that both my time and money were being well spent. I was very nervous about driving in the busy city traffic and Kathleen worked hard to understand the reasons why and come up with simple solutions to fix the issues that I had- she completely stripped back driving for me and made it simple and safe. I really began to enjoy driving as my confidence grew. She never made me feel silly for being nervous either, she totally understood and worked with me on it- she just ‘got’ it.
On the morning of my test, I had a pre-test lesson with Kathleen and she helped calm my nerves, as I used her car for the test she was at the centre with me and helped create a calm environment and was so encouraging. Once I started my test, I felt competent and everything I had learnt in my lessons came together and just flowed. I was over the moon to pass the test, it really is a wonderful feeling.
I was also 6/7 months pregnant during my lessons and Kathleen was very considerate of this always making sure that I took breaks if I needed them during lessons and had sufficient water etc.
Kathleen really cared about helping me become a safe and confident driver was genuinely delighted that I passed- I really don’t think I could have passed my test first time without her guidance.
C. O.Having taken some lessons with other instructors before finding Sunbury Driving School, I found Kathleen’s approach to be refreshingly different. She was able to determine not just the problem areas I had, but what the underlying causes were. This helped immensely in solving those problems.
During each lesson, the emphasis was on safety, and how to be in complete control of the car. She teaches how to anticipate different road situations/hazards, and how to deal with them all, in a calm and logical way.
Kathleen takes a common sense approach, and has a set of simple but effective rules for driving that I found very helpful. She has published an excellent book of driving tips that contains all these rules, and more.
After each lesson she sent me a message summarising what we’d done & what to focus on practising until the next lesson.
With her method of instruction, I was far less nervous taking the test, and happily got the pass.
I couldn’t recommend Kathleen highly enough.
A.***Passed First Time***
I couldn’t recommend Sunbury Driving School enough. From the get go Kathleen was very professional, direct and friendly. I started my lessons in early February after putting off driving for years. I never had much of an interest in driving and was always anxious and nervous with the thought of even getting into the driver’s seat. Day one with Kathleen set the wheels in motion that helped make all this disappear, I don’t know how she does it but she gets into your mind and makes you think differently, turning negatives into positives.
Kathleen makes you see things in a different perspective. I always taught it was just about getting into a car and driving off but it is so much more than this. Safety driving plays a huge part in Kathleens teaching technique. The more and more I felt safe and at ease with driving the more confident I got. I don’t think anyone else could have got me to that point of thinking.
If I did something wrong or if something could have been improved then Kathleen wouldn’t have any problem telling me and being direct, and not coming across being rude is one of her many good people person qualities. If I kept making the same mistake then we would pull over and go through why I kept doing it wrong until it finally sank in and made sense resulting in me not going wrong again.
After some lessons we would summarise the key points on what I needed to work on and where we felt I needed to improve, Kathleen would text these to me so I would be able to read them and look over them when needed.
Altogether Kathleen’s techniques, tips and style of teaching shaped me to be the safe driver I am today. Along with the guidance of her new book I was able to put everything together and use all this to my advantage.
Being nervous and anxious for my approaching test Kathleen made me feel comfortable, the day of my test I got a text from her wishing me the best of luck and advising me to have something to eat and bring water with me. It is always the little things that count.
I had my provisional licence for 13 years but never drove, I kept putting off driving and not doing anything about it, I just kept renewing it every year.
This year, after just three months of learning to drive with Kathleen I was able to pass my driving test on my first attempt!
Even after I had passed, Kathleen went out of her way to meet me in person just to congratulate me, this alone will tell you how much of a nice person she is and how dedicated she is to making you feel good about yourself and good about driving.
I can honestly say that I couldn’t have done it without her. I would highly recommend Sunbury driving school to anyone of all ages, you won’t be disappointed and definitely get Kathleens book (you will be learning with her even when she isn’t there), she might even sign it too. You certainly won’t regret it.

My husband and I both have held licenses from a different country for many years. My husband took lessons from a different driving school first and failed his first test. He re-took his test a week before mine, at me with the information that Kathleen had given to me, and passed on his second attempt. We are very happy to highly recommend Kathleen!

After having several instructors I could see my driving improve mechanically and in my overall thinking about driving, along with my decision making and safety, after the first lesson. She also gives tips afterwards as a text that reminds you what to do when driving. So she definately gets a recommend from me, the only thing to say is that she is very clear and direct and will really challenge you to consider your decisions in your driving, but in my opinion that makes for a better lesson. She has a clear driving system she follows that does make driving easier and passing your test a very attainable goal.
