Had a great time sitting around the fireplace they had going.Had Great evening meal and breakfast was great also.Played a round of golf with the castle being the backdrop. Just over all great time. Looking forward to returning.

We booked a stay in the lodges & we were underwhelmed at the standard of the accommodation which we booked on the basis of its description as ‘deluxe’. It was really motel standard, very disappointing. We raised the matter with the manager on duty who immediately resolved the issue & moved us to a room that matched the deluxe description. And that allowed us to get on with the business of enjoying our break.
The hotel featured recently in Condé Nast Traveller Awards as one of the top 10 hotels in Ireland. The food offerings were simply outstanding, fine dining at its best, both in the beautiful first-floor 1880 Restaurant in the Castle & also in Hermiones in the golf clubhouse. But what made our stay so enjoyable was the excellent service & friendliness of the staff. Without exception, every single staff member showed interest in making our stay as enjoyable as possible. Considering the pandemic effect on the hospitality sector, the attention to service here is quite remarkable & our sincere thanks to everyone for making our stay so special. Looking forward to returning again soon.
I. G.Just back from a 2 day stay attending a wedding in the Castle. Stayed in the Lodges. Very comfortable accommodation and had an excellent meal in the golf club after our round of golf. The wedding reception was in the Castle with a superb meal and service. Definitely going back next year for another visit.
C. N.Beautiful 12th century castle surrounded by forest and a golf course. Comfortable rooms, tasty food, great service. Conference facilities are wonderful for an event with 50-70 people.
The bar and restaurant of the golf course is a short walk from the castle and we had our lunches and dinners over there.
v. O.Had a lovely time, staff were very helpful and efficient. The only complaint I could make is that the bar in the golf club closed at 5:45 on a Sunday afternoon! We had played golf and were looking forward to a nice couple of drinks in the bar. We had to go to the bar in the Castle, and the bar there is tiny with little or no atmosphere. It is quiet an achievement to have a bar in a beautiful old castle with no atmosphere, only a couple of other ppl there, all whispering as it was soooo quiet. Definitely need a bigger bar in the Castle.
Thoroughly enjoyed the round of golf, lovely course and will be back to play it in the summer. Food in Hermione's restaurant was good, but again no atmosphere for having a drink after dinner.

S. M.Kilkea Castle was absolutely lovely. We stayed in one of the carriage rooms and the high ceilings and wooden beams were beautiful; the room was charming and so cozy. Staff was incredible, helpful and available at any time, and the meals were all delicious.
We also took advantage of their spa with a deep tissue massage - which allowed us to use the whole sauna/jacuzzi area. Such a relaxing and peaceful experience all around.
Last but not least, we got the chance to met this incredible man Bernard who offered falconry and owlery experiences through the castle and thought we would get maybe a photo op and to hold one of the birds for a minute. Instead, he gave us a nearly 2 hour experience neither of us will ever forget with owls, hawks and a falcon. We got to know these birds and to see how much they trusted and loved him, and he shared so much knowledge and wisdom from his depth of experience. I would highly recommend this add on if you're going! Once in a lifetime experience.
D. B.The setting is exceptional. The staff especially Andrew are really courteous and take time to chat. We only eat once in the bistro, it was ok. We found there wasn't a great selection. I'm a wheelchair user the accessible toilet is really really tight to get in and out of in the bistro. For such a modern building I expected more. We had a accessible carriage room. It was fantastic plenty of space, bed so comfortable. I am shocked at some of the ratings given by some guests. We are going back north to spread the good news.

Looked after Drainage done expertly not a soggy bit did we meet after such heavy showers, the Green keeper is doing a brilliant job and it's very reasonably priced with lovely food from the Bistro and friendly helpful Staff

G.Stayed here with family recently to celebrate a big birthday and it was a totally fabulous day and night. Thanks to all the hard working friendly staff, especially Ian who was so attentive, professional and friendly, an absolute credit to the hotel. Very delicious food in the club house where we had both lunch and dinner, and breakfast was one of the best I've had. The room I stayed in was really lovely and I had a very comfortable night's sleep. This is a beautiful stunning property and a real authentic castle and I would highly recommend it.

a. r.I absolutely loved my stay in Kilkea Castle! The castle has stunning decor with its original style mixed with old and new furnishings beautifully crafted. Grounds are beautiful, nice walks and a golf course as well as a health spa to enjoy! The staff are extremely professional and very friendly especially the head receptionist who was very helpful during our stay. I would highly recommend Kilkea Castle for a weekend break away you will not regret it!!

T. K.I'd give it 3 and a half stars. It has a lot to do before it achieves 5 star status. For a start it's manifestly lacking in atmosphere. Also it hasn't yet risen to the" look" of a 5 star. The background music chosen for light entertainment during our meal was nothing such, but musac" of the most irritating kind. So much so that it took from our enjoyment of such a meal. In short, much done but more to do !
P. T.First time out with the wife after lockdown so any place would have been awesome....especially with no kids. We had a great time. Spar was nice, bar and restaurant was great and the staff were brilliant. We stayed in the lodges and he room was excellent. On the down side hence no 5 star. We did book a treatment package but they were unable to provide a treatment between the check-in and out. No worries the package was amended...bit disappointed though. Upon check in we were asked to wait for two minutes while he delt with a staff member....not great customer service. Breakfast sounded great on the menu but wasn't great quality.

F. O.We stayed at Kilkea Castle Last week and has a most enjoyable stay. It's a good hotel for a night away, but quite expensive for what you get.
Positive: Cleanliness of the room + comfort. The Spa was very nice, but expensive for one hour, considering the thermal suite is quite small. This should be included in the accommodation price to provide more value. We played Tennis in the morning, and the courts were excellent.
Negative: The male staff member who greeted us on arrival was rather abrupt and could have been more welcoming. 6.50 for a pint of Guinness is OUTRAGEOUS. This is not the Shangri La. The service was also inconsistent - we dined in Hermoine's restaurant and waited for quite a long time for cocktails as only one staff member could make them.

The service amazing and the cocktail area will make you feel like a king/queen ! The spa is amazing, small but good ! And we got a massage (a pleasure!). A great expirience without any doubt ! C. G.What a wonderful experience playing Killkea Castle again. Set in the shadow of the 12th Castle. Even with Covid restrictions in place it did not take away from the enjoyment of the day. Super breakfast baps before the game and efficient starting time schedule. The course was beautifully maintained and the greens were immaculate. A great day all round.
One suggestion more signposts directions help the ease the journey time.

J. W.Such a beautiful place. Great golf course. we wish they would do better with keeping the old grave sights clean. But the rooms were beautiful and the staff was the best. Ryan from the bar was hands down the best. Rachel from the club house restaurant was the best service we have gotten in Ireland. Dean was our server at 1180 and he was so good. The food was really good in both locations. Ryan even took us to a local pub. I do wish the staff as a whole knew more about the castle but over all this is highly recommended.

7.We stayed at Kilkea Castle on reopening from Covid. Really nice and relaxing experience. The castle itself is stunning, with a nice bar and lounge. The garden and grounds are nice to walk and there is a small terrace area for a drink. Would definitely recommend to friends.
E. M.From the moment we arrived we were treated like royalty. Our room was adorable. A little small for all our luggage (2 weeks of travelling). The bed was so comfortable. The windows opened which was wonderful.
We ate our dinner in the castle and Nazin was very attentive. We couldn't have asked for any better. The grounds were lovely and we were able to explore at will. A totally awesome experience that I will always remember! Thanks to Andrew for an excellent evening in the bar with our new friends from Chicago!

E. F.I would like to thank everyone at Kilkea Castle for taking such good care of my guests and myself. I have taken two large groups to the Castle - 1 group of 14 Equestrians after Dublin Horse Show 2019 and lately a group of 12 for birthday celebrations from France, Ireland, London, Channel Islands and USA in January 2020. Everyone had an amazing time and all thought it was a magical experience that they wouldn't forget. The Castle is beautifully restored, the grounds are amazing, staff exceptional, great golf course although we had no golfers, amazing falconry which a few participated in! The Castle offers fine dining, luxury beds & bedding, beautiful bathrooms, fabulous Spa, Lodges are fab as we had one and were able to have pre dinner and after dinner party!! If you want a real treat and would like to experience true Irish hospitality you won't be disappointed....

Every staff member was so lovely and helpful.
Everyone went out of their way. Castle is majestic and our lodge room was clean modern and large. No complaints, we’ll be going back and you should too.

Stayed in one of the lodge rooms and it was essentially a suite with a full kitchen and living room and separate bedroom.
The function room for the wedding was great and the food was really good. Got to have a look at the bridal suite too and that was really good

M. K.Had a lovely dinner yesterday evening in the golf club bar. It was really busy! Food was very tasty. Seafood chowder got a huge thumbs up. Finished with the cheese platter which was lovely and had quince paste ( my favorite accompaniment). Staff were friendly and helpful. Clientele was a mix of locals like us and tourists, mainly nice un-noisy Americans! Atmosphere was great with people eating both inside and out on the patio.
H. D.The castle was closed for a while but was then bought by Americans. They have done a great job renovating the golf club and castle. The food in the golf club restaurant and bar is very good. The gardens are getting back to it's former glory, but that will take time. It's a popular venue for weddings and their ballroom is stunning.

K.Kilkea Castle, a hidden gem in a unique setting, truly an amazing place! From the minute we arrived the friendly and kind girls at reception made us feel welcome and as if we were special guests. When we were shown to our room, we were met with surprise with a beautiful castle bedroom and complimentary bubbly ad chocolates, lovely suprise, absolutely amazing and friendly staff members. The hotels interiors are impeccable and clean, a wonderful setting. Our first night we dined in Restaurant 1180, in which every aspect was perfection, a credit to culinary dinning and service top notch. Next day we attended the spa, 5 star quality and an extremely rejuvenating experience. Thank you girls. Later that day a wonderful staff member Nazim, served us afternoon tea and was really polite and friendly, he went above and beyond excceeding expectations. Each morning we attended breakfast, from the choice to the quality was truly exquisite. A beautiful experience in which we will not forget and will arrive again one day.

E. J.We had our wedding reception in Kilkea Castle in December 2018. To summarise – we cannot recommend this venue highly enough!
The staff were absolutely incredible throughout every stage of the process but were particularly impressive the day of the wedding. They so accommodating and nothing was ever a problem. On the day of the wedding, everything ran like clockwork because of their hard work. A particular mention to Elaine, Charlene and the gentleman in charge at the bar (whose name I can’t recall at this moment-apologies)!
The castle itself and Baronial hall (where our meal/reception was held) are absolutely beautiful. The grounds are also stunning. An important factor for us in choosing a venue was that the guests would have somewhere to stay on site at a reasonable price and Kilkea really ticked this box having a range of high quality accommodation at different price levels.
The staff, the service we received and the magnificence of the castle/Baronial hall all contributed to making our wedding day the best day of our lives and we cannot recommend Kilkea Castle highly enough for any couple trying to choose a wedding venue.
P. B.We have had several visits to this Amazing Castle now. Its really is beautiful part of the country and only just outside Dublin. Staff are very helpful & informative and the food is superb. Lodges are extremely comfortable and you can get lost for hours on the 150 acre estate. Well worth a visit. Yet to stay in the Castle but we have eaten in there and had a few drinks there too. Top class.

I. H.I went to the antiques fair in Kilkea Castle last Sunday and really enjoyed it. Popped into the castle afterwards for a coffee. To be honest I found the castle a bit dreary but I only saw the small bar where we sat and maybe further in its much more exciting. Certainly the grounds are very beautiful. Great finds at the antique fair tho, n plenty of bargains to be had too. Some nice Clarice Cliff items on sale at VERY reasonable prices.

N. K.Had a great stay here, beautiful place, the grounds look incredible. The Castle has been refurbished and they have done some beautiful work maintaining its historic look. A short walk from the Castle is the Golf club and Lodge area where you can also stay. Both areas have a bar and food section. If your a golfer make sure to bring your clubs, youll want to play a round as soon as you see the greens. This place has only recently opened and they are hoping to have a spa up and running sometime next year im told.
S. M.Beautiful castle and grounds. The castle is the oldest continuously inhabited castle in Ireland and has undergone an expensive refurbishment as have the lodges. The lodge we stayed in was extremely comfortable. The food provided was tasty and high standard and the staff were very friendly and attentive. No Dublin hotel could provide this experience. This place is amazing to stay in, albeit the spa will not be ready until late autumn 2018. Don't let that put you off though.

A clubhouse chicken burger arrived at my table and I told the waiter that I ordered a beef burger called the gourmet burger. He said that this was the gourmet burger. I thought I may have made a mistake and I took the burger anyways. I checked the menu before I left and saw that I had order the beef burger. Service really needs to be improved because it takes away from the very nice food that is served there!

The first idea you have seeing the castle is that's really true castle outside and inside and not a sort of surrogate called inexplicably "castle"
Moreover is one of the less castles inhabited since the construction and is considered an haunted castle.
The rooms are pretty and the service really good, also the restaurant offers very good dishes.
Outside ypu can find an ald cemetery, an evil stone and you can take relax walking in the garden or playing golf.

K. B.This castle has an enormously rich history. It was the home to the Fitzgerald family for over 700 years since as far back as 1180! The castle was sold by the Fitzgerald family in the 1960s and was run as a hotel for decades. In 2009, it went into examinership, but has since been bought by an American, Jay Cashman, and now operates as a resort. It is disappointing in my opinion that more is not made of the historical context of the castle when one arrives. I mean, it's literally steeped in Irish history, from Sir Thomas de Rockeby, to Silken Thomas and the Wizard Earl, to the United Irishmen. So it's somewhat disappointing that more isn't made of this rich well of history as one perambulates around the grounds, which it must be said are spectacular.
The front of house manager, a young man on duty the day I attended the castle, was most welcoming. The staff seemed pleasant but perhaps under pressure. One lady in particular, a slim blonde woman in charge of wedding proceedings seemed particularly under pressure and snarled at me when I said "hello". Aside from that unsavoury incident, the castle provides a spectacular backdrop to any event, particularly something like a wedding.

First off, I felt like I was transported to the 15th century, but with a brand new marble bathroom, gorgeous bedroom and glorious bed!
You are so taken aback when you walk into the castle - the decor is so hip, modern, clean and new, but keeping the old world charm.
We stayed in the castle and it was the trip of a lifetime. I can’t say enough great things about Castle Kilkea, it truly is an amazing experience.
Let’s start from the beginning….
Each day we met at the club restaurant and had THE MOST DELICIOUS meals. The smoked Salmon is better than a NYC deli. The eggs were so fresh! Oh, did we talk about the potatoes yet? Creamy, creamy potatoes that melted in your mouth.
The Castle staff would then set up our activity, which was unbelievable. We went horseback riding (they accommodated me and gave me “ My little Pony” ). We went skit shooting, did Archery, and took a trip to an Irish Village, where we went to Irish Pubs ( we went to the Clint Eastwood Pub ) Yes, clint Eastwood loves to visit Ireland! Lastly, a shopping day for Irish wool and Linens.
Back at the Castle we could have ourselves a little yoga class, a work out in the weight room or go for a walk on the castle grounds. Now, those castle grounds are steeped in History, with beautiful lush gardens and there is a small grave yard. There is also a full Golf Course and Tennis Courts, and an on staff Masseuse! OMG can this get any better.
Before dinner, drinks at the Castle Bar….which had every single Irish whiskey and Gin made in the Country! Amazing!
Dinner back at the Wonderful Restaurant Club House - where we had the Freshest Fish, Beef Wellington and Salads to die for. After dinner on the weekends there is a DJ and karaoke !!!!
Ireland has now become a gastronomic destination. The chefs at Kilkea castle are soo talented.
Ending an evening with cocktails at the fireplace in the Main Castle, the sofa’s are so comfortable and welcoming. Oh, Did I mention the purple velvet sofa chairs? You have to get a photo in the purple velvet chair!
Lastly lets talk about the Irish people , so funny, so witty, so friendly and welcoming to tourists.
I can not wait to go back with all my friends and family. On a scale of 1-10 I give Kilkea Castle a 20 !!

In addition and most importantly, Andrew was asbsolutley fantastic! He went above and beyond to ensure our stay at Kilkea Castle was nothing short of amazing. Andrew was welcoming, informative, hospitalitable, and kind. He really made us feel like royalty. Andrew is a true treasure and Kilkea Castle is fortunate to have him!
Overall, Kilkea is a a spectacular gem with lots of history, sparkle and charm. Around every square inch of the castle and property grounds there are captivating aspects to delight the senses. There is great sense of ownership and pride in all that work here. I can't imagine being anywhere else in the world other than right here at Kilkea Castle.
