Amazing venue. James and his team did a fantastic job in hosting our wedding. Unique, bespoke, rustic! Ticked all the boxes. Service was great. Gardens are amazing and the food was to die for. I wish we could get married every day here! 10/10

Really good food. Lovely space also. Had the ravioli. Very tasty. Amazing chocolate ganache for dessert. Everything is fresh and made with love here. Always great to see an open kitchen too 😊

Had a fabulous time here today for my Mother's 70th birthday meal. The food was delicious and we could not have asked for more. HUGE thanks to Afton for all she did for us in our few hours there🌟 We got to take some precious family photos in the gardens too 🌳⚘🌼
Would recommend here to everyone. Thank you.

Beautiful gardens just 20 minutes drive from Carlow town. Well maintained. Enough parking spots. Family friendly. Staff very friendly and kind. Bonus no discrimination. I can only recommend this place 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

My friends and myself had the great pleasure of visiting this magnificent State of the Art place last Thursday. I enjoyed a perfectly made Double shot Macchiato and a slice of heavenly made Lemon Drizzle Cake. Special mention to all the staff working there, they were extremely helpful paying extra attention to every single detail. You really made our day and we will be back soon. Thanks ever so much for everything, you are all fantastic!!

Super nice food in the restaurant. All from the kitchen garden. I really enjoyed the food. but the garden is very small. 8 euro is not worth for visiting. I have been to many better one. Come here for the food and have a nice walk in the kitchen garden.
S. C.
The food is a little pricy, but well worth it; very fresh and tasty. A bit chilly eating out in the marquee, as weather was very changeable, but an attractive setting and lap blankets are provided. The gardens are magical.

A delight of a find! Four of us had lunch here at the weekend and it was wonderful! Setting is lovely. Food delicious (chocolate ganache to die for!) and the staff were great. I'll be back to stay as the brochure for accommodation looks inviting too. Ashleigh

We had a lovely afternoon in Green Barn. The food was GREAT, Fresh and good QUALITY ( sinich could be seasoned a little bit more. it's only an opinion, not criticism ). The staff was very friendly, welcoming and accommodating. I could not recommend this more. 😍
M. K.
A lovely place to eat, a real taste of organic food and attention to detail. Excellent service and the staff were welcoming and accommodating
Dog friendly too. Garden and surroundings relaxing and with a range of colourful artistic designs.

Very good food, good space between tables, staff friendly and professional.

We have been to Burtown twice recently. The first time it rained and so we just had lunch in the Green Barn. The food is excellent - garden to table type food. Great tarts. There is a patio terrace - uncovered and a tented area with plenty of space.
The food was so good that we went back on a good day - enjoyed another good lunch and spent a couple of hours walking around the gardens and the sculpture field.
This is a really nice place and the gardens are not too formal - all in all a pleasant place to visit.
D. D.
Amazing food, amazing setting, but without doubt the best thing about Burtown House are the people, couldn't do enough for you.
J. D.
Had a lovely afternoon here with my wife. The gardens are exceptionally beautiful. We will be back regularly. Staff very nice. Lady with the short blonde hair is so friendly.
V. d.
I never got the chance to try the delicious food I had heard about as it seemed to be understaffed when I was there, we had sat at the outside cafe, some of the tables were not cleared away and couldn't catch the eye of staff to place an order for cake and coffee. We left disappointed after 25 mins. I might try and get back another day.

Lovely safe lunch today, so nice to be served, sneaky summer lunch with the family. Great venue, service and food.
M. M.
Beautiful place to visit. Take away coffee and sourdough baguettes amazing. Restaurants bit open due to Covid but will be soon. Lovely seats to sit on fantastic weather. Stunning gardens, artisan shop and art gallery.
B. B.
It's a very nice place albeit a tad expensive to simply visit the garden. Some magnificent sculptures are in the garden, all in all a lovely and pleasant place
P. B. (. E.
Well worth visiting if you enjoy good food with friendly service . It's very pleasant rambling around the walled vegetable garden after lunch and viewing the gardens on a sunny day.
E. C.
Excellent service, covid preautions observed.
Food well served up but menu offered limited choice.

An beautiful place to visit! The staff are very friendly. The food at The Green Barn is amazing, with delicious vegan options on the menu. Well worth a visit!

Gorgeous piece of Irish Heaven and history. Wonderful gardens and world class food and service. Spent a rainy afternoon here for a delicious 3 course lunch and it was perfect. Warm, friendly staff to top it all off. Some of the most fresh and delicious foods, great service - a truly special restaurant and gardens. Highly recommend.
Also, check out the wonderful cottages to stay.

Food is amazing, grounds are so lovely, will definitely be back
M. M. D. C.
A wonderful heavenly place to visit for lunch, brunch or dinner. If you can stop to sleep in one of the refurbished rooms and the experience will be worth it! The food was absolutely incredible and the gardens so so well kept! Will definitely come back one day!

Liked it so much that I got married here 🥰
This is a family-owned business and the heart is well and truly beating in it.
The food is gorgeous, organic, grown in the gardens. All guests raved about it.
The atmosphere is really special, airy and rustic, somehow homely and elegant at the same time. I love the selection of stunningly curated artwork and photography to marvel at while you eat.
The gardens are beautiful any time of year. Lots of secret nooks to explore.
The accommodation onsite is also a dream, the stableyard farmhouse is a perfect, cosy yet luxe venue for a small group getaway.
I can't recommend it enough, if you are thinking about checking it out, just do it!
g. F.

Serenity, taste-bud tingling food, friendly dogs and even friendlier staff: The Green Barn at Burtown House has it all.
If you want to simply unwind and savour a peaceful walk in beautiful, natural surroundings, go to Burtown. If you want gourmet quality, natural organic food, superb coffees or to-die-for desserts, go to Burtown. If you want to socialise with friends and family in a classy yet relaxed atmosphere, go to Burtown. If you want to savour local artists, go to...you get the general jist: GO TO BURTOWN!

Didn't really know a whole lot about this place despite being from the locality but decided to drop in one day for lunch just on a whim as we were passing. It turned out to be one of the best experiences in a restaurant I think I've ever had and probably the best in Ireland.
Just coming into the car park and the restaurant, everything looks amazing from the log cabin it's in to the gardens you can see out the dining room window. The owner and all the staff were extremely friendly and flawless at their jobs and the food was absolutely top class. Everything is so fresh and well grown and then it's seasoned and cooked to perfection. And for all this, the prices are around the same as you'd pay for lunch anywhere else.
Definitely recommended and it's fantastic for the area to have a place of this quality like this here.

My mam introduced me to this gem just off the M9. Such a convenient stop'off if you're making any trips to/in/through the South East. The food was goooood but it was the friendly and attentive staff that made it a noteworthy experience. We went for Sunday lunch and one of our party was experiencing back pain. When I brought it to their attention, the lovely servers couldn't have done more to make her feel comfortable. And not just one of them, ALL of them. It is very rare to see, and made it such a pleasure to dine here. The grounds are beautiful too, for leisurely walks after lunch.
M. B.
Wonderful fresh food, lovely variety & fantastic taste. Nice vegetarian options. Interesting, imaginative atmosphere with an emphasis on old country style. Treat yourself! Then top it off with a walk in the gardens. The snowdrops are in full bloom in February.
j. d.
We left Athy today disappointed with the canal and river walks.my wife found the Green Barn in Burtown house what a relief. The whole experience was great. The food was excellent, the vegetables were to die for, that beetroot was the best ever.
The staff were so nice and gardens just lovely.we will be back for brunch. Thank you, might see you in the summer and stay overnight. John Duff
S. F.
This restaurant is well worth a visit. Not only for the food but also for a ramble around the beautiful gardens. The decor of the restaurant is reclaimed and natural materials. It's a beautiful spot. We had lunch and brunch here (on different days 😏) and we weren't disappointed. We will definitely be going back.
M. B. J.
Lovely restaurant...food is gorgeous
We booked accommodation for August Bank Holiday, when we rang to confirm booking was not found despite having received confirmation emails. We were advised that offer on the website was no longer available, new Web site being developed and advertised specials on current website not being offered. Disappointed.
M. o. n.
Such a beautiful place to visit. The food is delicious and the staff are lovely.
K. B.
I LOVE the Green Barn. So lucky to live so close, the decor is a dream and they always have a vegan option. Great coffee too.
C. H.
Such a special place. This is our favourite place to visit. The food is always amazing, seasonal delights from the organic kitchen gardens that are so full of flavour. Catherine greets us with her friendly smile & the team are so attentive & friendly. We love the gardens & each time we visit we find a new favourite spot. We stayed in the Stable Yard accommodation recently & felt so at home & so welcomed by Joanna & James, everything was carefully considered & Lesley's insights into the gardens & history of the house & gardens was fascinating.
We can't wait to return.
M. P. I.
So much worth a visit. A blissful prosseco brunch looking out on beautiful gardens. And these gardens are just the vegetables they grow. We entered into The Green Barn.. The feel was instantaneous.. Relax it said to me.. So I did.
The service was friendly, smiley and chatty. The food was delectable. The decor.. my kind of place. Stroll about and peruse. Even the toilets are interesting!
Go and have a visit. Take some well deserved time out. This place will give it to you in bucket loads!
G. K.
Such a beautiful place. Fabulous setting just off the motorway and yet it's so peaceful. Staff are lovely. We only had coffee and scones which was lovely. We have to go back for the food and setting. I loved seeing this barn being built on "at your service" programme and the owners were so eager to get started, I'm so glad for them it's a success.
S. K.
A nice little place to dine out. It's away from the town and all business. There is a small garden around for walk-around. Lovely staff. Great food.
m. f.
Gardens were lovely. Lunch was delicious unfortunately carrot cake served earlier in the day appeared to be a bit stale. Staff helpful. Would go again.
G. T.
Absolutely amazing. Still in awe about a wonderful and memorable Yoga retreat weekend spent there. Loved the gardens, thoughtful object d' arts casually scattered around the grounds, decor, ambience and energy in the restaurant and our authentic farmhouse accommodation, warm welcome and impeccable service.
The owners' love, dedication and devotion for this place, in line with traditions yet full on trend with modern food fads; really shines through.
A skinny decaf Oatly latte, sprinkled with organic cinnamon? Or a gluten free, rye and chia seed bread with avocado and soya free, low sodium, basil sauce? No problem Madam, all served with a genuine smile. Honestly.
Didn't know vegan food could taste this good.
Will definitely be back.
m. l.
Just popped in on spec for some food, had a lovely takeaway lunch in the courtyard.
d. b.
Incredible place for a wonderful meal. Great staff and the gardens are beautiful 😍
R. O. C.
Beautiful veg. & flower gardens. Lovely food in restaurant and friendly staff.
f. m.
Beautiful little oasis of calm and beauty. Only negative was the bathrooms which were a bit smelly :(
k. s.
Worth a visit but gardens are way smaller than they claim in marketing material - they count fields of plain grass! Over promise under deliver - be honest and visitors bed less disappointed. It's all about getting you there so you spend in restaurant. Over priced garden admission charge
N. O.
A good offering but tending towards over-expensive. €17 for a (starter size?) fish pie. The admission to the gardens is also steep considering the area. Worth visiting to make up your own mind. 3 or 4 star review? I'll be generous and give 4 stars for effort.
m. c.
We had our wedding in Burtown House last July , it was like a dream! Food , venue , staff was amazing! This review is overdue but honestly couldn't ask more for a better venue to have the wedding! Once again thank you James and Joanna for making our dream come true!!! 🙏🙏🙏🙏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏☘️🇹🇷☘️🇹🇷☘️🇹🇷
B. G. W. &. F. M.
A beautiful magical venue for your wedding day.

Gorgeous place, gardens looked after, charming country Style, 😍..love to spend time there.
n. o.
Fab anniversary brunch , service exceptional. Chilled atmosphere. Will be back to do gardens with our daughter. ❤️this place
B. Q.
Really loved this place. Service was a little slow, but we were sitting out in the garden basking in the sunshine. Will definitely return.
C. G.
Beautiful gardens, amazing chocolate brownies, welcoming staff! Best 2 hours of the summer so far... even with 3 small children 😋
I. S.
Food, location and ambience were lovely. Plenty of space for wheelchair which was important to use but unfortunately no wheelchair access to the garden. However, we all had a lovely time
J. D.
Nice little place to hang out and go for farm walks or sit down for a coffee or treat in the gardens.
L. M.
Lovely ace for a relaxed walk. Well kept with a plethora of wild flowers in attendance. Had a sweet dessert, gorgeous.
F. v. d. W.
Beautiful gardens for a short stroll. The restaurant is a nice rustic place with a view on the gardens. I had a Mediterranean brunch meal which was nice.
M. F.
Burtown House is a great place to have lunch. You can wander through the gardens, where they grow their own vegetables. There also is a garden with artworks. They also wonderful accommodations for people who are looking for a peaceful place. I absolutely loved Burtown House.
W. W.
Fabulous food and very friendly staff. All capped off with delightful walk around the gardens.
E. W.
Fabulous restaurant, vegetables fresh from the garden. Large variety of flowers and areas to peruse at your leisure. Minutes from Athy town, easily accessible by car, ample parking for cars, coaches and other modes of transport. Variety of trinkets available to buy in the shop also.
C. H.
We now live on Florida and my wife and I have been traveling around Ireland for 4 weeks staying close to family for 2 weeks in the Ballitore / Athy area.
We had 3 meals in Burton House and all were without a doubt the best food of any restaurant we visited during our stay in Dublin and other parts of the country.
I highly recommend a visit to anyone from Dublin or any tourists visiting the area.
E. D. S.
Okay food. Not value FOR money and services not GOOD. Deserts dry cup of herbal tea was cold. But tasted GOOD. Took long time to serve the food. paid to visit the garden and its a joke. Plant are dead or dying. Walk is threatened by a huge dog. Not much of a walk and its not looked after. Had visitors from abroad and embarrassed abour whole thing.
m. g.
Love the food and ambiance here.. Superfresh produce and some lovely wines from the barrel.. My only gripe comes with front of house person who managed to ignore me to the point of rudeness on two visits.. Maybe he only "sees" diners if they are not dining alone! Pity, otherwise a 5*
D. M.
Had breakfast and brunch here on two occasions and I have to say it was fabulous, the food is beautiful and so well presented and staff were so nice, looking forward to my next visit
C. “.
Great atmosphere friendly staff, will definitely be back 👍

My good friend John and I and my Cavashon dog, Molly, after reading about Burtown House over the weekend, visited you at lunchtime today (8 Feb 17). And what a "wonderful" experience it proved to be - and I mean wonderful in its full original sense. Following a delightful stroll through the various gardens and wood, colourfully and lushly carpeted with aconites and snowdrops, we deposited Molly in the car for a snooze while we sampled a very tasty lunch indeed, indulgently finishing off with the chocolate ginger cake and the apple crumble. A delicious experience and all the better for being totally organic!
So looking forward to visiting again in April when we hope to see the Magnolias in bloom.
Best wishes for your continued blossoming of this very worthwhile endeavour.

I had soup and a roast chicken sandwich. The soup was potato and leek but it had a very strong tarragon flavour which over powered the actual flavour of the soup. The sandwiche was fine the salad on the side was really bland. I was so disappointed .
M. W.
This Estate is an incredible feat of perfection! Ms.Fennell has created a top notch all encompasing garden from scratch, apart from her famed Mother, Wendy Walsh, botanical artist's garden close to the studio cottage. The organic restaurant decor is lovingly created from sustainable and repurposed materials in the modern farmhouse style. All the food, from Meat to Veg, is raised on site. I can't love this place enough!
R. E.
Went for brunch which was great and the gardens are lovely
J. K.
Really relaxing environment. Lovely staff and very nice outdoor area
H. W. D.
Beautiful house and stunning gardens. Beautiful food in the Green Barn. Can't wait to go back. Great for a lovely day
A. M.
Visited Burtown House today with a merry band of flower arrangers.
I was entralled by Lesley's talk as we meandered through her 10.5 acre
garden. The amount of energy she has put into achieving what, to me,
is a glorious experience of gardening at it's riotous best took my breath away.
Just as I thought that this garden could do with some water - there it was - a
beautiful tree filled island surrounded by gentle brown waters spanned by two bridges.
This is an experience not to be forgotten. Did I mention the lemon drizzle cake and
coffee?
F. H.
This place never fails to impress....its got very relaxed ambiance to match its rustic charm..The food is all about strong flavours and is always super fresh...would highly recommend to anyone.
R. S.
Honestly the most beautiful food I've ever eaten, went back the next day for more!

Lovely wee spot, went to view as a potential wedding venue, had to get lunch while there (food smelled amazing as we walked in) reasonably priced (although I'm used to Dublin prices), fantastic atmosphere and environment surrounding.
