Reviews of The Fish Wife
It had been 7 years since I last visited. The quality was amazing back then, and the place quite affordable. And I'm more than happy to say it hasn't changed. Really good quality fish and chips. Just love this place. Can't put 6stars, but would have.
I had the seafood box for €11.
The seafood box included a half portion of calamari, half portion of scampi, mashed peas, tar tar sauce, salad, and chips.
It was well prepared and the service was friendly and efficient! I would definitely go here again.
One of our favourite take aways in the city. The chips are always beautiful. My parents and boyfriend love the quaility of the fish. The curry sauce they use is also very nice. I also find it a nice touch that you get a phone call when your food is ready.
I had fish and chips. There was plenty of potatoes which were good, but the large amount of chips seems to combinsate for the smaller amount of fish. The fish was too greasy. Not worth 13 Euro.
This was an appetizer, not a meal.
They have to shops, one in Gran Parade and another one near the Cork English College.
The first time I tried the Student fish and chips it was absolutely delicious and very crispy. The chips were also incredible. However, when I went for a second time there was less fish and it wasn't as good as the first one.
I also tried the Student chicken and chips and it was good, but not as much as the fish. The cheesy potatoes are also good, they have tons of cheese.
Soooo delicious!! I loved it. You can choose from a bunch of different menu. And if you don't want to spend so much like you have only 5 euros with you, you can eat the student menu. You have fish and chips and u can add vinegar and salt if u want. It's a medium/large portion in a box, it's enaugh if you're a bit hungry.
Delish Cod, for €10.50 it comes with mushy peas and tartar sauce. Lovely chunks of flaky cod in a crisp batter. Served with a generous portion of chunky chips.
Very limited seating inside, only a bench with 4/5 stools. You can eat in the outside part of a bar across the street although you'll have to buy a drink there.
Would have liked an alternative to chips such as a simple salad & coleslaw. But can't fault the current menu for tastiness & freshness.
Delicious fish and a lot of chips. You can take away or eat inside, because they give you food in the boxes :)
The BEST Fish & Chips we have ever had. Amazing home cut chips, homemade tartar sauce. Will definitely be back.
Very generous portions, nice staff, good fresh fish served swiftly.
It's a small and cozy restaurant that serves healthy food like salads, light sandwiches and fish. The staff was really nice and the food is fresh and delicious!
A good portion of fresh and tasty fish and chips for the right price.
So.... I was told to try this place as best fish and chips in city. So expectation was set pretty high and i was disappointed. Now dont get me wrong, it was fine, i ate it all but i wasnt moved. I i was not told it was best i would have give it 4 stars since it was ok plus history plus ambiance it would be solid 4 but this way i have to give 3. Few have mentioned is was greasy and it was. Chips could have been better preseason and precooked to get that starch running so they would be golden after fryer. Overall there are better places that i would go to. But if you havent tried please do its worth your time anyways.
Fantastic choice of fish made fresh to order. A couple of seats outside however, this location is more suited to take away. If you want to enjoy your food with a pint you can pop into one of the pubs across the road and order your food to be delivered.
We enjoy dropping in for our chips. The staff are friendly enough. The chips are great.
It is wheelchair accessible. There is wheelchair accessible parking nearby.
You will need to wear a mask when visiting the shop.

Really tasty fish and chips with an atmosphere that feels very authentically Irish.
Always fresh and delicious. Staff are super nice. Definitely the best fish and chips I've ever had 🙂
Really great fish and chips. Staff always friendly and efficient. Personal favourite in the city centre.
Some of the best fish and chips I've ever eaten! No kidding! Awesome!
Lovely little place. The food was really great, I had the grilled swordfish with salad and chips, and not being big on greasy food I was pleasantly surprised by how un-greasy it was. Everything was delicious, but I thought the chips in particular were especially amazing.
I wouldn't plan on eating at the restaurant, I did, which was fine, but it's clearly meant for take away being super tiny and easily crowded. The bar is also very high in comparison with the stools, making eating at it pretty awkward. Not a big deal though🙂
The staff were friendly and helpful, and I liked that their disposable silverware was made of bamboo and out to be taken as needed, so that I didn't have to feel guilty about throwing away a bunch of plastic. It's also really nice that they have cheap meals for students.
All in all, a great place (very cute too). I'd highly recommend.
I have to say this was the BEST cod and chips I have had in a long time! Fish was white and tasty and the batter was excellent plus it was ALL hot. Can't beat it in my opinion. If you are in Cork and looking for a decent lunch or dinner this is a great place to try out.
For a fish restaurant, and on top of having some of the best takeaway fish and chip, they actually have some of the best burgers in Cork too. Don't know how they do it. Excellent. ♥️
Awesome fish and chips. It's a small take out shop, with good selection of the typical fish + some burgers. Go for the "fish box" with tartar sauce and mushy peas included. Or even better go to the Sherbourne pub across the road and get your fish and chips delivered.
We loved it! It smelled delicous, the fish was soft and tender and it was a large portion of chips. We got the student deal, so fish and chips for 6€, with an extra discount of 10% since we were staying at Sheila's hostel. For that price and that quality it is truly a bargain!
Fantastic as usual my Wife had the Swordfish for the Gluten free menu, and I had Cod and Chips. We can't wait to call for more of the same SOON Thanks
Lovely place to visit! Usually not really busy. Tasty food and quick serving time. 🐟 and 🍟 is delish here
Staff professional. Good portions reasonable priced. I opted for the students' fish'n'chips which which was good value for money.
Fantastic battered fish at a very reasonable price! The fries were too soft for me, but I do prefer fries very crisp! Beware that where is very limited seating but they have an excellent arrangement with Shelbourne bar across the street, which offers outdoor seating with purchase of drink.
Very nice Fish And chips Restaurant nice small place in Cork city! Best of fish dinners suppers right next to English Matket in Cork city. As it says they do fabulous traditional Fish and chips!
Huge selection of tasty food! Everything from beef to fish to pork. The fish is amazing but try the double bacon cheeseburger, it’s my guilty pleasure. Few seats inside and out too, or you can order to the bar across the road and have it with a pint.
Very tasty fish and Chips!
Eating here a few time all ways nice but came in to nit after a few weeks not being here cod and a chip €10.50 no drink one dip a bit much I think for a chipper that was doing good over the years I was coming in here I ask the staff why the price gone up they say ask the boss. money gone up and I really think the food is gone down hill for €10.50 in other chipper u get more value. When u look at it on the menu €3 for chips so take that off the cod meal is€7.50 for the cod and the bit I got was not wort it all sorry I eat out a good bit when working a way form home I no good money for food when I get it so I won't be back sorry
Great selection of fish, cod, hake, herring, plaice etc. and beef burgers. Great arrangement with the Sherbourne Bar across the road in that one can consume the food in their Bar provided one orders a drink. Highly recommended.
Absolutely amazing!!!!
The best fish and chips that I have eaten so far.
I have traveled a lot but the fish and chips here are the best and I will always come back for the amazing taste and atmosphere.
If you are up for fish a chips, don't hesitate to go there, you won't be disappointed. They have great burgers too. And you can order and they bring it to you accross the street to the Shelbourne and yoh can enjoy you meal with a drink. Great service, fast and friendly.
The fish wife is a traditional chipper and has lovely fish and chips it also has a great variety of fish ranging from cod to swordfish the prices are decent and the employee's are lovely. The only fault I would say about the place would be that it's a bit small otherwise it's a great takeaway
My husband & I had plaice & chips with mushy peas & tartare sauce while our daughter had chicken gougons, chips & garlic may - we left nothing! The food was fresh, crisp, piping hot & value for money. Could not recommend highly enough for a hearty & tasty feed after spectating at the Irish Rowing Championships today - many thanks to the fish wife & her staff!!
Excellent battered cod and chips, served for our convenience at the terrace at the pub across the road from the shop. Great value for portion size and piping hot, freshly prepared food. Highly recommended!
Fantastic love the chips... Also the fish was light and flaky, good price too €10.80 for fish chips and mushy peas with a coke.
Even the mushy peas are some of the best I have ever had!
I'm not a big fan of fish, but I might just have to rethink that opinion now. Fresh food, fast service, friendly staff. Prices seem a little high at first, but once you see how generous the portions are, prices are very reasonable. You can also call ahead to pre-order your food, if you're in a hurry.
One of my favorites places in the city. I've been a customer here for months now and not once was I disappointed with the chips. Their haddock is great too. Fully recommend this place.
Some of the best fish and chips I've ever had. Tiny place with limited area to eat. Apparently you can bring it to a nearby bar if you buy a drink there.
The best fish and chips i ever had!! Worth flying to the beautiful city of Cork for this ✈️💕🥔🐟
The staff are super friendly too.
Two words; EAT HERE! Tiny fish & chip shop but delicious food. Take away only, although there's 6 seats at breakfast bar, if you can't wait !
I tried the swordfish box. Excellent :) I'll definitely come back
I got the plaice, which I'd never had before. Omg, this fish was so tender I almost couldn't eat it with a fork, it was delicious. My husband was equally pleased with his swordfish.
Very good fish and chips. Portions are very abundant, especially chips, make sure you have enough room in your stomach.
Great fish and chips
This place is a MUST try if you are in cork. The portions are HUGE! Cod and Chips was to die for, and you cant miss out in the onion rings (the serving was behemoth)
Best fish and chips in town. No comparison. I've visited both shops on McCurtain street and Grand parade and both are excellent.
The best real chips in the city centre. The bacon cheeseburger won awards for good reason! Try as I may, could not fault this plaice 🐟
Fantastic food, some of the best fish and chips I've had in cork.
Maybe the best chips in Cork? Really lovely, competent staff, huge portions and just lovely food. Way too difficult not to eat there every day!
Great menu, take away very well organised and the food was fresh and delicious
We will be back !!
Always a great place for some nice fish and if you fancy it some very good burgers as well including buffalo burgers. A must try when visiting the city
Best fish and chips in Cork City. Scratch that. Best fish and chips in whole Ireland.
I just had a takeaway from here for the first time while out in the city with my wife last weekend. Magnificent! The last word in fish and chips, quite honestly.
Never got to meet the fish but his wife was very nice. The food was great.
Best fish n chips I've ever had in life. If you're a tourist, you'd be making a mistake if you didn't go here.
Best fish 🐟 and chips 🍟 in town 😋
Just had the hake supper. Absolutely amazing. I wish I took a picture before hounding it down. Not greasy at all. Thanks.
The best... Simply.
Hake, haddock, scampi and swordfish.
Even the tartar sauce and mushy peas.
Great chips too..
Best fish and chips in town. Fresh, TASTYMAN and worth the price. (Around 9€ for the meal)
probably the best fish and chips in town - you can order and have it delivered to one of the pubs across the road which is great
The fish is tasty but the chips could be better they where slightly under cooked
Fantastic fish and chips and the staff are cool my girlfriend lost her wallet and they found it and posted it back to her in dublin ...great place in a great city
Good prices, huge portions and good quality. Students with a student ID eat cheaper, vegetarian options available. I'll eat there again.
Best cod & chips in Ireland 🐟
Tasty, fresh fish and chips, the very best. Meal boxes are generously sized so consider sharing!
Has taken over as one off the best take aways in Cork but with a twist you can order and go across the road to the shelbourn order a drink and you're meal will be delivered to you happy days eat and drink
Great traditionnal take out ! Too bad that the frying was softer than expected due to the box. Super good garlic mayo !
Great fish and chips. Make sure to splash a bit more s&v on the chips.
Excellent food here. Very fresh fish
Great fish and chips I’ve ever had
The best fish and chips I have ever eaten,it would be worth driving to Cork especially for them!
Excellent food, great tasty food every time, fish and chips cooked to perfection
Really nice fish and chips. Very busy but worth the wait
Exceptionally good fish & chips. Great staff...
Wow. What a spot. Fabulous food, need to lose the plastic pots though..even if it means you get mushy peas and tartare.
Great fish and chips
Nice fish and chips. Lovely service. Sat inside. Bit cramped
Massive portions, great variety of fish and sides, and high quality fresh and amazing fish.
Waste of time and money going anywhere else for fish and chips. Best around
Friendly staff, always fresh and fast, with the option to eat across the road in a pub. Favourite chipper in the city!
Really nice burger and fish just the prices are higher that said on the website!!!
Absolutely beautiful 😍 you can not fault it fish was like butter it melted the minute u eat it 👌 chips and peas 👌👌 out of the world
Love the hake and chips. Their tartare sauce is delicious!
Nicest chipper in cork. Famous for their fish, but their fries are extra special on top of it
Great quality, reasonable prices. It's not as cheap as some other takeouts but you do get what you pay for.
Cheap, Delicious, and classic Irish takeaway. No real space inside to eat only a few stools
I had very nice fish and chips from there.
Tasty fish and chips. Brilliant that they cook fish without batter!
Excellent fish and chips, clean and tasty.

Calamari & shrimp were nothing special, but quite good for the price. 11€ for a large box.
Fresh & crispy. This is how fish & chips taste excellent. For example here :-) - we really liked the friendliness and calmness of the service as well as the maritime-themed shop.
If you're passing through Cork, don't miss a stop at this fish and chip shop! Small place, but you can also take away. Friendly staff.
(Translated) The shop is small and you get fish and chips as well as hamburgers. It's nothing special, but it's enough for a bite to eat in between.
(Original)
Der Laden ist klein und man bekommt neben Fish and Chips auch Hamburger. Ist nichts besonderes aber für einen Happen zwischendurch reicht es aus.
Huge portions, insanely delicious!
A small shop and there are always people there! warmly recommended
Highly recommended fish and chips, the best in town! Try it by ordering at least three different types of fish to find out which one is the best coming from those icy waters! The place has an agreement with a pub opposite, so you can order your fish and chips and go and sit in the pub and while you order a beer and take the first sip, here comes your fragrant and crunchy goodness. At the pub you can listen to some music and talk to all the patrons of the place, who are almost always very friendly ;)
Small but welcoming place, very friendly staff, excellent and plentiful fish and chips (it was my first experience). If I ever return to Cork I will definitely return. I clicked wrong... I wanted to give 5 stars.
(Translated) Very friendly staff and an extensive menu of fish and chips, certainly exquisite and abundant.
(Original)
Personal muy amable y una carta extensa de fish and chips, por cierto exquisitas y abundantes.
If you like to eat typical battered fish, this is a good place. To choose different types of fish and sizes. It is very small and has almost no tables, and they DO NOT have beer, but if you crossed the street there was a Pub where you could order beer and eat the food from this place.
Delicious food at a moderate price. It is worth considering takeaway food, because there is little space inside and there is no shortage of people willing to eat delicious fish. A culinary curiosity is fried fish that was previously smoked.
The price is cheap and the taste is not bad
Honestly, I don't know what good fish and chips are.
So the gamfries recommended by this restaurant were also delicious.
First of all, the price is very cheap and if you order a beer at the pub right in front, the staff will deliver it to the pub! Very satisfied in that respect
Pretty good. But no place to sit. Many quick at the counter. Overall I rate it a three stars.
A fantastic portion of freshly fried fish and chips. Pride!
Best fish and chips in Cork!
