Reviews of Captain Americas Grafton Street

I had a dinner here with my friends about 20 years ago during a trip to Ireland. Decided to have some American (north and south) steak food here again. There is just a single door leading to this restaurant but I managed to find. Ordered a delicious Philly Cheese Steak*. The cheese and the vegetable stuffing was a very good match to the steak. Will com back again.
*PHILLY CHEESE STEAK (Grilled steak with sautéed mushrooms, onions & mixed peppers topped with a blend of mozzarella, cheddar & garlic mayo, baked in a hoagie bun with a side of pepper sauce).

Chicken wings are absolutely amazing, staff were so lovely and helpful expecially the blonde lad and a girl in a white shirt. Portions were so big and food was so tasty! Really highly recommend this restaurant ❤

I believe I was unlucky today going to dinner at Captain America's to celebrate a conquest with my boyfriend. After the waitress sat us down, she simply forgot us, I waited patiently for 15 minutes, then I went back to the reception to ask someone to take our orders, according to her, the waiter responsible for the area was busy serving a large table and forgot (siq). About the food it was definitely not what I expected, but I liked it. I understand that the short staff problem that Ireland has been facing can be an aggravating factor and the new measures that the government has implemented have made it much more difficult. I hope next time I have more luck. In the end she apologized and give us a discount in the bills. I'm given 5 stars because I believe in second chances so let's see next time. The atmosphere and the decoration is amazing!

Good portion of chips and size of burger but my burger meat lacked flavour compared to my past visits to captains. It seemed drier and unseasoned maybe

Lovely place to dine in with friends & family. They accommodate well with student deals for 10 euro. Food and alcoholic drinks were reasonably affordable for its location. Our waiter was polite and engaging. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a tasty American style cuisine. 😋

If you are looking for a little piece of America in Ireland. Be sure to visit Captain America’s located at the top of Grafton Street near St. Stephens Green Park. The food is amazing! Great selection of hamburgers, beers and amazing deserts. The restaurant has being open since the 1970’s. If you ask any person that grew up in Ireland during the 1980’s I would guarantee they visited this establishment. It should be noted I am originally from Ireland, lived in the United States for over thirty years and traveled all over the world with the US Marines. I definitely know a Great Restaurant from all my Travels and life experiences. You won’t be disappointed! Great for lunch or dinner. Very Casual and a must visit when in Dublin, Ireland.

One of my favourite places to go. The portions are big and yhe food is lovely. Mocktails and cocktails are really taste and super affordable. The decor is fun and it's a nice vibe

I managed to book a table for the wrong night and turned up on a very busy Saturday night instead of the night before. The evening was supposed to be a trip down memory lane and was one to which we were both really looking forward . The lady at the reception ( i missed her name as she had left when we finished but she is of Asian ethnicity) made a call and sorted us out with a table .No drama. no problems . After some delicious cocktails , namely a Mojito and a French Martini , the ever so friendly and efficient Waitress brought our food , namely the aforementioned Hawaiian Burger and a rib eye steak. Conversation stopped and we munched our way way through really tasty and delicious food. The burger was presented a little differently to what was remembered but still delicious. The rib eye was cooked perfectly with just the right amount of char to the surface and a delicious juicy " medium" interior. We shared the Cookie Desert and left happy and sated . While the food was great , even if it was mediocre , the staff on the floor are a real plus to the restaurant Considering we were there in the middle of a pandemic they never once seemed stressed with all the measures and the mask wearing . Thanks again to the lady for accommodating us after our arrival on the wrong night ! Much appreciated .

Friendly staff good service and the food was great. Struggled to finish it as the portions are big. It's all reasonably-priced
c. d.
Staff are extremely friendly and helpful. Was here with a few friends and they facilated splitting the bill for us. Prices are good + there is a student menu. Food was great, will definitely return.
K. N. D.
Food never disappoints here. I love the cajun sauce and the cocktails are sublime. Great value for money and kids meals are the perfect size.
M. S.
The all staff, the Waitress was amazing recommend the great plates and describing in details and being patient with us. We all loved the decorations and the ambient of the restaurant, so full of history and culture of Dublin and music. I recommend for sure the ribs it's insane! The burgers are not so good as I expected but the rest was really good!
C.
Fantastic staff they could not do enoigh for us, chicken wings unreal...will definitely be back
S. M.
As good as always.
Havent been in almost 2 years until today, but the staff were as friendly, attentitive and respectful as they've always been, even when the place is busy and they're under pressure.
Food is outstanding (wings and New Yorker Burger), even through the limited menu and busy environment (1hr 45 min wait). We booked in advance to avoid this wait and everything went smoothly.
Consistently high standard in the 15 years we've been going.
D. B.
Great experience, lovely atmosphere. Our waiter david was so so nice. We got a pitcher of coke for 7€ which was so many glasses worth. The food was amazing and so was the desert. Would 100% recommend this place.
B. N.
Delicious burgers and Guinness on tap. The staff is super nice.
B. C.
My favorite restaurant in Dublin. If been here many times before and recommend it to all my friends! Food & drinks are superb. And the service on of a kind!!!
I. R.
Great food, still the same 20 years later. Good tasting food. Good service and friendly staff, gluten free options too,
W. M.
Never disappoints. Great burgers, wraps etc and very pleasant staff.
W. S.
Went here for my birthday with my girlfriend, loved the food, simply fantastic and so were the drinks and the service very good as well, will definitely be back in the future 🥳😎
N. M.
Good portions and good food. They have a €10 lunch menu but if you search online you can find buy 1 meal get 1 free vouchers so 2 meals for about €15. They also have €4 pints of beer for students Mon-Wed. A Dublin classic spot.
J. R.
Great atmosphere.. kids of all ages love this place. Staff are so friendly and food / cocktails amazing.
M. O.
The staff is very friendly and the place is very busy. There is nice atmosphere and good music. The food was served extremely fast (it took less time than the drinks). I ordered the American burger and it was good, but it was lacking intensity in the taste. Overall it was an enjoyable meal, good to come with groups. The prices for food are around 15€ for main and 8€ for drinks, cheaper with student deals.
P. T.
Great food for pretty cheap. The staff was very friendly and the decor is fitting for an American themed restaurant. As an American, things were similar enough to food at home.
K. B.
My son took these pictures when we had dinner. We have been here on a few occasions to have dinner with family and friends for birthday or wedding anniversaries. Our group was 12-15 people, and the service was excellent, good choice of food. Very centrally located, make sure you book ahead to avoid disappointment.
B. P.
I ate here last summer and couldn't wait to come back. I came today and although the food was excellent, the service was not. I don't blame the waitress because every time I would be looking to find her, she would be always be bussing, taking orders and or bringing food out. It seems you may need to give some servers a lighter load. This is the only place that brings back home to me while I'm studying abroad so I'll let it pass this time 😉
R. P.
Amazing food and really good service...
G. H.
Great atmosphere, great food and delishous milkshakes..kids loved it!
A. G.
Nice place to eat. Service a bit slow but it got busy when we were there . Lady who served us was friendly and food was nice and not overpriced. Space at the table was a bit tight is my only criticism
L. P.
Very big burgers served fast. The music was great and the staff friendly. The noise was just a bit too loud. The Halloween decorations was lovely.
D. G.
Such a lovely visit. Great service, and delicious food! Delighted to see all Covid measures well adhered to also.
S. L.
Great with and for kids to eat. There is a lot to look at and the food is good. Definitely try their Oreo milkshake!
L. d.
It was the first and best restaurant I've been to in Dublin, and surely one of my favourite restaurants ever.
The Walls are clustered with typically american stuff and the Food is just as american as the name of this place.
We were served very nicely and even tough the place was stuffed we didn't have to wait long for our meals.
All in all it's definitely wort a visit.
o. i.
Nice resturant on Grafton street, got great deal for lunch and dinner for 9euro.
They offer free WiFi too.
S. A.
Burger was super good and juicy. Dishes are very generous. Good place to hang out with friends, very quick service. All in all a very good experience.
S. W.
Staff are friendly, was wick getting a table 3 wild before Christmas during lunch. No booking required. Food was mediocre but not expecting much from this place, was just popping in for a lunch while out shopping. Filled us up, but probably of I had more time I would have spent it picking a place with better food.
T. P.
Amazing service and little wait time for food. Food was delicious would definitely recommend
B. F.
Awesome place. The walls are adorned with some epic rock memorabilia, meanwhile the food will come fresh and fast. Great mean, not the cheapest by any means, but very enjoyable. Definitely worth the stop.
k. h.
Food was good as always , place was empty but somehow was left 20 minutes for the bill , staff to busy talking to one another and joking
R. V.
Poor service, but the interior deco is nice American. Burgers have no souce in them whatsoever, makes it a bit dry.
T. P.
Nice burgers and cheap cocktails. Good prices for students.
P. m.
Nice food, brought back memories as a kid going here as a birthday treat !
E. W.
New York burger delicious and the chicken wings best I've had 👌
J. J. P. R.
I've been there about several times and the food is absolutely fantastic!
I remember visiting this bar and restaurant for the first time since summer 2008 and I was eighteen in that year.
This restaurant is based on the name of the famous Marvel comic character.
I think this Irish restaurant chain may not be affiliated with Marvel Entertainment or The Walt Disney Company (which currently owns Marvel).
b. r.
Best steak i have ever eaten .. amazing staff and waiters... 10/10 incredible
ю. Ч.
Great food, friendly staff, good place. Order food, eat like a pig, enjoy it as you are eating home😁
B. G.
Highly recommend them savage place to go great food and atmosphere.
R. H.
Great place for any time of the day, with the perfect portions for each item on the menu. Very friendly staff all round.
A. W.
Very good service very friendly staff food went cold very quick
F. W.
Amazing food amazing service amazing atmosphere. Would come back to Dublin just to come back here
J. S. A.
Great food and excellent environment to enjoy with friends
i. l.
Fabulous food as usual. Chicken fajitas were to die for
J. S.
Good service, great value. Recommend the ribs!
M. L.
Delicious steak. But the accessibility is horrible, the only option are the stairs. If you have a pram or a wheal chair you won’t be able to go there.
M. M.
Loved it. Great family restaurant 👌🏻
k. s.
Great meals and excellent service. We enjoyed the experience
E. C.
Lovely food and great atmosphere.
V. H. F.
A little expensive, but the attendance is great like the place, very cool.
p. c.
Food was delicious, ordered wings as starter got loads as u can c in pic..well worth the money, lots of signed memorabilia on the walls, very interesting..would have gave five stars only it took an hour to receive the main course after the starter was finished
K. W.
Food was great, and the waitress I had (she had curly ginger hair but I didn’t catch her name) was really helpful! She recommended the hot and spicy wings which were to die for!! My son had the ribs and they were so big that he wasn’t about to finish all of it! But our waitress offered to pack them up which we really appreciated! I’ll definitely be back soon!
R. S.
Nice food, fantastic staff very friendly. Place with nice music not too loud just perfect.
T. S.
Loved the service and the food was incredible I would definitely recommend that you go to Captin Americas
D. D.
Have a lovely meal with the family just before Christmas. It's wasn't that busy which was welcomed. Staff were polite and welcoming.
Slightly expensive for what we got but that's Dublin city center!!!!
D. C.
Lovely food. Nice and chilled atmosphere.
J. M.
Excellent spot. Food is amazing. Deals and prices are great. Decor is class, loads of cool decorations. Karaoke night is great. I'd nearly give it a 5 stars but I've had issues here with flat drinks from the soft drink spray and once when I ordered a pint
S. C.
Great food, great staff, brilliant for a family dinner...
P. A. K.
Great place for a bite to eat and with well decor of well know musicians and the prices are decent enough.
C. H.
Had completely forgotten about this gem that has been serving American style food since way before any of the new hipster places. Had a lovely post-Panto meal with the whole family at a super busy time and it was great. Didn't wait long, food was lovely. Extensive food and drinks menu and very suitable for kids alike.
P. C.
Lovely food for the family and staff could not have been more helpful
E. F.
First we got a table near the kitchen and since one guy had his birthday, we requested another table and the waitress was so nice that she managed another much better table. Chicken wings were amazing so as breaded mushrooms. We could even taste the red wine to decide which one we pick. Music was great too. Overall it was a lovely experience. Thank you.
M. V.
Decent place. Food tasted pretty good. It is a bit overpriced for what customer service they deliver and for the quality of the ingredients. Not to forget that the lady that took my order took it wrong. Brought me an chicken burger instead of a beef burger but she was very nice in the end making my experience better.
W. B.
Great spot with alot of music memorabilia decorating the walls. Like the Hard Rock Cafe before all the merchandising.
G. O.
First trip to the city centre since Covid-19, done a walk in and chanced getting a table, we were delighted one was available, the layout was brilliant and very safe, I didn't feel uncomfortable at all.. we were told we had 90mins which we understood and were happy enough just to be out. Food and service was fantastic, staff and layout were brilliant! We weren't rushed in any way..Thankyou to the brilliant staff 🤶🎅
L. R.
Yesterday was our first time to step into this place, you'd miss it since the entrance is just a doorway.
Place is clean with lots of memorabilia to look at.
Delicious food and inexpensive lunch deals.
Our waitress was lovely and made sure we were cared for. Keep up the good work.
J. D.
Been coming here for years and the food is always great!
Fantastic selection of dishes, great cocktails. Family friendly and plenty of seating!
Food is out quick enough and portions are a great size.
Good kids menu with colours.
All the signed photos and items on the walls are great
T. H. O.
My family and I have been going to this place for years now. The food is always fantastic, it's both filling and fresh. The staff anytime I've gone have been really friendly and helpful never had a problem. The place itself is a great experience as there is so much history and different eye catcher's on the walls. I'd suggest on holiday's such as Christmas, new years, mini marathon ect booking an appointment in advance as the place can get packed quick but other than that most other days can be okay to just walk in. But if you haven't been I highly recommend going. Anyway hopefully this is some help and happy eating.
K. L.
Lovely food and helpful staff.
K. R.
Food as great as ever. Great crew, congratulations
P. d.
Friendly fast service and very good food.
S. G.
Traditional American restaurant with the classics. The location is key, but there is a few flights of stairs. Food was decent and pints were good.
Our waitress wasn’t too concerned about us, could have been a bit more friendly and attentive. Had to ask 3 times for a jug of water.
T. B.
This place is fantastic, so many good times and steaks Ive had in here. The cocktails are pretty good too, they service
Jemmi and their pints taste fresh and clean. Everything is great but the only bad thing I can say is their chicken wings suck, they are average at best but this cities average chicken wing is pretty terrible to be honest, oh and some of the guitars on the wall are in bits so that kind of ruins the specialness in some regard but that doesn't bother me enough to lower a star
E. D.
I go here every year and everything is perfect. The place is so clean and tidy and makes you feel comfortable. The food is delicious and service is brilliant! The waiters are really kind and funny. It is a brilliant place for a bite to eat
A. M.
This was alright, but not great. The wings were good, but the burger lacked flavour, maybe even a bit of basic seasoning would have helped? Bun was also a bit dry and stale.
The atmosphere is good though if you're looking for somewhere fun to eat.
G. F.
Don't mind how gimmicky and tacky this place looks on the inside the food here is very good.
Yes it looks like a place you would bring a date when you were a teenager but the food is very very tasty and reasonably priced.
You won't take people here to impress them but if you want some comfort food and a carb fest this is the place to go.
S. K.
The staff are incredible, some of the best service I've ever had. Wings were great, drinks were pricey but it's Grafton St, so it's expected.
But yeah, the staff were really wonderful and that's probably the best part.
M. N.
Brought my partner here last week while we were visiting the capital as he had never been there for a meal. The place was very busy and we had to wait at the bar for a few mins. This was not an issue as we were served our drinks by a friendly bartender. The wait was brief and we were shown to our seats, ordered our food and were happy with what we had ordered. Our table assistant (Anthony)?was very friendly and attentive so we had no issues with the very busy staff. We enjoyed our food and will definitely be returning. The queue to get in can be lengthy at times so be prepared to wait if it's at peak time otherwise it's a good place to grab a bite. Can be a bit pricey but it's not outrageous either. Cool pieces of decor to admire as well. The entrance to the restaurant is a steep tight stairway and we couldn't see any wheelchair access. Very difficult to get buggies up too. We noticed some couples struggling to get in with their children in buggies.
D. M.
Excellent retro style American themed restaurant.
A. F.
The food here is average, the burger I had was poor, the wings were tasty. Some of the seats are not great, we were stuck down the back. The staff were nice particularly one waitress who was very attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. The surroundings are made up of music memorabilia so you may want to have aloof around. Prices are high for the quality of the food, but your in a prime location. Look out for deals online on groupon etc if you want to get better value.
P. R.
The best place for food and drinks in the city centre. Amazing location. Love the staff, they're all very friendly. Decoration is fantastic as well. I'm a regular customer and will always be.
p. d.
Lovely food and great service!
G. F.
Went here last night and we were completely blown away by the food & service. The staff couldn't do enough for us considering how busy they were and the food was delicious. Thanks to everyone for making it such an enjoyable evening and we will most definitely be back :)
L. L.
Great place, very friendly staff. The only downside is they don't do free refills on the soft drink glasses. ***UPDATE*** I've now been advise that free refills are available with main meals. If u don't clearly see it on the menu ask the waiting staff to confirm.
P. S.
I visited this place with a few friends. Note: the nachos starter is enough for four people and you don't get warned how much it is. The food we had was all greasy goodness, the service was and friendly and the decor on-point. Next time in the area I'd love to go again!
K. C.
Not bad. Staff were friendly and efficient, food was okay.
Loaded chips were nice but burger was a bit dry and quite plain, bacon was chewy. Nice, individual place to eat though. Would go back and give it one more try.
S. O.
An excellent variety of very nice food and drink. The staff are lovely, and very attentive! Unless it's very busy, you're not waiting long for your food at all. A perfect way to end a day in town.
M. H.
Good food good drinks and prices
N. B.
Great place to eat we went on a really busy day of the week. The waitress had 14 at our table and she did a great job. Food was lovely I got the fillet steak it was to die for. Definitely be back.
L. R.
Still great for a quick bite to eat in the heart of Dublin
N. T.
Looked everywhere in Dublin for a place for some lunch and ended up stumbling across this place. Very funky and cozy and tucked away from the main street. At first we were sat near all the families with kids as there was only one table since the upper area was closed. Then one of the waitstaff names Monique (who hadn’t started work yet) put on her belt and started her shift early to open up the upper area so we could be in a more comfortable area. She waited us for the rest of the meal which was massive in size and she was absolutely lovely. I don’t leave reviews often but I thoroughly appreciate the service we received today.
K. D.
I took 5 friends to eat there at the National Burgers Day. All the burgers were served well done and tasteless. Besides, none of the waiters were aware of the promotion (2 burgers for the price of one) and we had a lot of trouble to pay the bill in the end because one of our friend went home earlier and paid her part. Which led to a confusing explanation from the waiters that now we lost one of the pairs of the promotion. There were 6 burgers, so we should pay for 3. But, as she left and paid before us, one of the 2 for 1 promotion was cancelled. It took us quiet some time to make the staff understand how wrong that were. At the end they fixed that like they were doing us a favor.

This must be one of the oldest restaurants in Dublin. Back in the late 70's and early eighties, I remember going here a lot. Visiting it again in 2019, it fellt like not too much had changed. The music paraphernalia on the walls is still there. The music playing on the sound system was mostly oldies. And while the menu has obviously changed over the years, there were will a few old favourites there. I went for garlic mushrooms which were deep fried in breadcrumbs, and served with a very tasty garlic mayonnaise. This was followed by chicken and cheese enchilada, another delicious old favourite. My companions were also very happy with their selections. All in all, a great Dublin institution that is worth a visit.
J. K.
Very cool place with perfectly themed decorations. Food is very nice and cocktails are good but could benefit from a larger variety. Great location but do book in advance as it tends to be busy
L. C.
The food was fantastic. After a long walk the burgers and chips were a welcome sight, the garlic bread was great as well.
The restaurant it's self had a lot of nice imterior decor from the large comic panels to the music and artists from different decades.
L.
Best burger I've ever had!
T. R.
Myself and my college friends always go here for a group gathering and everytime we do the service is excellent. Even throughout a busy period the staff are lovely, calm, and make you feel so comfortable. The food here is delicious and I am always so overwhelmed by the choice available. The 2 for 1 student deal on most week nights is also a brilliant bonus (provided you have a discount card from college), and the speed of the service is still pretty good even when the place is packed full of people.
R. W.
The ambience was really cool. We loved the American theme but it took a while to get our food since they were busy. Also their mozzarella sticks were honestly terrible.
M. K.
Great food and amazing service, the staff where absolutely brilliant, looked after us from start to finish, and we'll definitely be back
O. U. M.
Very nicely decorated, great food
k. w.
Had a pork ribs..it was tasty.. visiting this place again.
T. O.
Fun and bubbly waiter and a relaxed vibe to the place. Mrs had the ribs and I had the striploin steak. Food arrived piping hot and pretty quickly. Taste was good as well. Bit of a wine snob so disappointed at the lack of options but it's to be expected at a place like Captain Americas. The rose wine was below average hence losing a star for the review. Overall though very good and will definitely be back!
C. B.
Fashion designed and carefully furnished american fast food restaurant, located in very central area, few steps from College Green.
No pasta, no pizza. Service not too fast. Prices not low. Groups over 8 people, surcharge 10%.
B. F.
The original burger restaurant in Dublin's Grafton Street. Very popular in the 70's and 80's. More spacious than I remember, great friendly service, nice ambiance, not too noisy and clean loo's . Burgers were excellent and good value. 8 year old granddaughter loved it too.
C. Y.
Eaten here a few times, last visit not so good food wise, but as always the staff were very friendly enough. Service charge additions for tables exceeding a certain amount I don't agree with, especially when you have one person waiting for their starter, whilst 7 others have finished theirs. As someone else has commented - fries not so good as previous visits & the kids ones were cold, burgers lacking seasoning, so 180 euros for a table of 8 seemed quite expensive this time with no alcoholic drinks. Perhaps this is why it was quiet in comparison to previous visits & it's time to try somewhere new as plenty of choice for this type of fayre in Dublin. Markets itself as "flashy", but tired is maybe a better description.
I. G.
Great food huge portions
M. F.
Food was gorgeous service very quick, only down side is the entrance, stairs very steep you have to wait for other diners to either come up or down, ladies toilets could do with some TLC broken tile on floor and door wouldn't close on 1 cubicle. Would definitely come back for the food and friendliness of staff well worth 5 stars😊😊
T. H.
Love this place. Excellent cocktails, great value for money, staff are really nice. Good vegetarian food too!
N. D.
I work in "Captain America's", it's how I was there 700 time's...
R. L. R.
The burgers are served overcooked. However, I recommend the chicken wings.
Z. D.
Got a living social vocher for a high spend and just walked in to see if I could reserve , usually restaurants make it very hard to redeem vouchers however I was so impressed how knowledgeable staff were of all vouchers on offer and availability. We used our voucher there and then and had a very pleasent experience the food was so filling and lots to choose from. I had a Chilli burger and taco fries while my friend had a steak and sweet potato fries by the time we had dessert we were full to the brim!
A. W.
Good tasty food. Only thing the soft drinks aren't very big and at over 3€+ you wouldn't want to be to thirsty. Burger was delicious though.
R. D.
I love the food and the atmosphere inside, the friendly staff is amazing and they had served me and my friends very fast though was quite busy. I want to tell them ,, THANK YOU FOR THE NICE DINNER,, I CAN'T WAIT TO COME BACK.
J. R.
Nice food, good sized portions and lovely staff. Decor is very cool, definitely worth wandering around for. Cocktails are disappointing, sickly and not great at all but otherwise enjoyed it!
C. B.
This is a fun place to eat with great food and drinks. Music and decorations were awesome. Rock music and memorabilia with marvel comics thrown in. Drinks were out of this world, try the woo-woo cocktail. Wide variety of food and large portions.
E. H.
Excellent food and excellent service ! The wings were absolutely amazing and the pizza was definetly one of the best I've had , we will definetly be back 😁
K. H.
Always when we are in Dublin we visit CA. It's a wonderful treasure of Dublin with a nice collection of music memorabilia on the walls. Lots of U2 stuff, Thin Lizzy and many others. The food is good although we liked the 'old menu' better and missing the chili con carne. That one was excellent. Waitresses are always very friendly. The cocktails are good. Price is little higher than used to be. We have the feeling that it is visited by locals mostly. We don't know if travel maps are directing to CA. We love the placezl, the food and the atmosphere. It gives us a sort of homecoming feeling, always. Thanks CA for over 20 years of fun and good food. Also mentioned in my own written and international published book Under a Blue Dublin Sky.
D. F.
Was in Captains yesterday 29th for National Chicken Wing day! The wings were great and we also got some other sides. Service was friendly and super fast! No complaints - would recommend.
I. Q.
Outstanding great food, friendly attentive staff and a brilliantly decorated with Rock n Roll memorabilia. Touch pricey but worth it. Best stake in a long time.
法.
A very nice place with awesome vintage American atmossphere, friendly staff and super delicious burgers. The only reason I give 4 stars is that their website said „no free tables available for the next weeks“, so I would almost have missed that experience (of course they had free tables).
M. C.
Would definitely recommend! Staff were so lovely, nice and inviting. As well as this I found that they had a menu which had dinner and dessert options for all my friends (who can be very picky)! The decor was also amazing! 😄
M. H.
It was quite good but the tables were quite close together. Despite this, the memorabilia was very eye catching with a variety of signed guitars and pictures. The food was great and there is a lot of items to choose from.
S. R.
Managers appeared to be very helpful with every duty, including waiting and bussing. Personal waitress was not attentive at all. Spent double the amount of time I planned due to waiting for waitress. Food was basic and decent, same as expected from any chain restaurant.
D. L.
Yeah, you'll be waiting 15 minutes for a table. And the food isn't great. And it's overpriced. But those NACHOS THOUGH!
There's no reason you should ever go here and not get the nachos, they're greasy perfection. Just don't get a main too, I made that mistake once and could barely stand up to leave the place.
...nachos...
a. k.
Had high hopes for this place but it did not meet my expectations. The food was good but paying 14.85 for a burger and chips is a bit steep. You can get better value for money elsewhere
S. D.
Very good service. We were a large family group on a very busy Friday coming up to Christmas. Staff were very friendly and efficient. Book in advance for busy times. Food tasty for a burger joint. Good for kids.
T. O.
BEST service i have had around grafton in a long time our server (suzan) had friendly and warm attitude and was very helpful as i was unsure what to order, she gave us samples of drink to try as i wasn’t too sure what to get, she had good knowledge of wines and beers which was helpful too ! The food came quickly, we got the lunch deal which was a big portion for 9.95 With a drink! The cheese burger was cooked perfect with a large portion of fries, the veggie burger was lovely also with large fries. Over All Excellent experience at Captain Americas between the food and Extremely friendly staff, Thanks to Suzan and the Team at Captain Americas for doing a brilliant job!!
M.
Love it, student meal deal makes the experience very affordable.
Cocktails are fantastic although the appletinis are a bit more expensive but very worth it
The karaoke can be entertaining but can be annoying at times.
The staff are sound, especially the bar staff, the bouncer is very laid back I must say.
Excellent choice for students
S. S.
Wonderful place and found a new strawberry beer which I love!
H. B.
Food was pretty good, the staff were very friendly. The decor was a bit aged. The food was a bit pricy. I enjoyed my time there but I don't think I'll be going back in too much of a hurry.
R. G.
Cool overall atmosphere, the service has room for improvement, they got us seated fairly quickly but staff were not very welcoming. Food is better than McDonalds I suppose, we had a buy one get one free deal, at that price it's definitely good value, I ordered the blue cheese burger but found it lacking any cheese, if I had ordered a plain burger with no cheese I suppose it was ok.....
At the regular price per meal I would however much prefer to spend a little extra and go to GBK.
D. O.
Solid grub, not great but it will fill you up and is worth the price.
The sundaes are to die for but do yourself a favor and stay away from the apple crumble. It was more soggy than crumbly and tasted of play doh.
The burgers don't exactly look as advertised and are a bit overdone but overall they taste fine and are decent value. The ribs main is absolutely massive, you'd almost be better off getting the ribs starter as a main.
Speaking of starters, they have a great selection, though nothing fancy or particularly great tasting. The jalapeño poppers were surprisingly bland, although the aforementioned ribs were great if a little big for a starter. I didn't have the wings although having seen them at another table I wish I had. They looked good and you can't mess up wings anyway.
The one serious niggle I would have is with the cocktails. They are quite expensive and not very strong. You'd almost need a whole pitcher to yourself just yo get a buzz. If you want to have a drink with your meal, do yourself a favour and stick with the beer.
All in all it was an enjoyable meal at a decent price, which is about what you would expect from a place like Captain Americas.
S. S. L.
Some of the best food I had in Ireland. Thematically based around an American comic book hero. Featuring nostalgic posters and decor throughout the restaurant. They unabashedly serve stereotypical American style food, from burgers and fries to a Hawaiian pizza. Everything was fresh and delicious. As a nod to American indulgences they even serve pitchers of mixed drinks, something an American restaurant would be too shy about including on their drink menu! For a taste of the States in Dublin head over to see the Captain!
P. O.
Pretty expensive, but worth the price. Both the portion sizes and atmosphere exceeded expectations. If you don't mind paying a little extra in exchange for an unforgettable experience, hit this place up.
M. S.
Me, I ordered fish and chips. And a side dish w/ cheesy garlic chips. I got fish and chips and my side got added to my main plate.
So it got mixed up. The side was not cheesy it just was garlic.
The day before I also visited you. This day you served well.
The other day you ran out of Paulaner Beer.
C. H.
A 40 minute wait for food despite it being half empty. Promises free refills on soft drinks, but again, despite it being quite quiet, none were offered. Food was very good though, and good value.
C. D.
Staff were extremely welcoming and helpful and food was top notch, student discount is amazing too. Perfect location too, will be back!
N. G.
Great friendly service, the menu has been streamlined since the last time I was there. Same great food, same great people, and same phenomenal atmosphere. Just better and faster!!
g. k.
Went for old time sake, staff always friendly food simple & nice. I used to work across the rd Scholls Grafton st in the 70s,used to bring our sons there for Birthday parties 20yrs ago Michael & Genevieve
P. G.
Food was nothing better than OK unfortunately. Combo starter was great value but the Chilli Sloppy Joe just wasn't great. Bland with little heat in the Chilli and the sweet potato fries weren't fully cooked.
The staff are fab - very friendly.
B. L.
100% #1 spot in Dublin for early evening food and drinks if you are travelling with kids. We love this place, burgers are great, famuly atmosphere is even better. Highly recommend.
C. T.
RI so off I went to captain America's with me mate. I felt confident at first, the staff were nice and had a family friendly environment. Looked for something healthy (you know being on diets and all.) ordered the vegetarian Fajita. Worst mistake. When the yoke arrived I was confused. Thought there was hidden cameras and that people we're gonna jump out saying "it's just a prank"But no . A big burnt bowl full of onions and nothing but onions. The bowl was so burnt bits of it were flaking off into the onions. I know I ordered vegetarian but a bitta tomato r lettuce would've been nice with it. Beside the bowl was a wrap wrapped in tinfoil. The size of it. Like the kiddies ones in Aldi. With the amount of onions. While me friends sitting opposite me eating a lovely burger. Worst €17 ever spent. Now I'm not hating on the restaurant I'm only hating on the burnt onion wrap. Over all good restaurant would recommend it. They give ye mints at the end.
A. M.
We found this place while exploring and loved its quirky nature from the moment we stepped foot inside. Great food and service. Lots to see on the wall's.
K. H.
Amazing atmosphere right in the centre of Dublin. Fantastic food (I recommend the burger or chicken wings ) although it can be very busy at times so I would book ahead so to avoid disappointment. This place is famous for a reason.
M. C.
We first visited Captain America's in 1974. In our courting days. Fond memories. It hasn't changed much. Our old favourites are still available and as good as ever. The staff are as friendly as ever and most welcoming although it remains a student haunt all ages are represented there. We'll be back. Loved it.
s. 0.
Very nice place we had so much fun my baby sister loved the way she could colour there and i loved the food there so did my mam, sisters, and my anty and her baby so i give a 5 star rating
S. C.
I JUST LOVE THIS RESTAURANT😍🍔 its is known for its burgers mostly! The kids menu is just as good as the adult (only down sized😂) It is a tight squeez ip the stairs if u have a buggy though, it is not wheel chair accessible and you mightneed to book a table on some nights because it can get pretty busy. But other than that its a great meal out!
J. P. W.
Great as always. Opened when Dublin was a different Dublin. This is a very unique rock restaurant! May it never change!! Great athmosphere! Great food!! and Great Staff!!
T. L.
Very busy on a Friday night, but food was well worth the wait. Everybody enjoyed- great atmosphere and music. Shame we had to wait a whole hour for a jug of tap water!
P. M.
Stopped in for lunch, lunch special menu was amazing value for money! We rolled out after only spending 20 euro between two. Food tasted great as always!
F. Q.
Unbelievable, if your on grafton Street and hungry this is the place to go!
Excellent menu with loads of choices, it's a little bit pricey but very reasonable for what you get.
Have no issue in recommending this restaurant, staff are very attentive and friendly.
There's no on street parking but it is on a pedestrianised street.
G. X.
the guy who works there, James- so great; he was so genuine and helped us out with what to order!!! love going to this place to catch up with the girls!! Really friendly place (:
K. N.
My favourite place to go after college, after work and any time really! Best student food and drink deals in my opinion! :)
m. m.
I love everything about this fabulous restaurant Captain Americas on Garfton Street. I met up with a buddie of mine I hadn't seen for a long time on Wednesday 26th September. From the minute we stepped in the door the service, smile and amazing hospitality from Ollie was out of this world. He literally could not do enough for us. My friend and I were chatting so much that my food got cold and we asked Ollie would he mind warming it up for us and with a big smile he said of course. He came back minutes later with a fresh new meal for me which I was not expecting and said he was only to happy to help, this has never happened before anywhere else. All through the evening he was so attentive (without being annoying) and I can't praise him highly enough. Such a pro and a what a bright ray of sunshine. I just love this place, the beautiful food from it's vast menu, amazing ambiance and Ollie, the wonderful Ollie makes it all the more amazing. It was delightful to meet you. Thanks Ollie, you are amazing :-) xx
s. m.
A bit scruffy but sure the chicken wings make up for it
K. O.
Great place. We love bringing the family here. Kids occupied with colouring with face painting and balloons every time we visit. Great staff, lovely food. Fun and vibrant. One of our faves
E. O. B.
The food was good. The service was good. But the order was mixed up. We were given chips instead of salad and we had to ask for our drinks twice as they were forgotten.
N. M.
Great food with a superhero feel, complete with murals and captain america hanging from the walls. Had wings and would have been content with that. This place is on second floor and can get a little stuffy. Luckily was sat by a window with a great view of Grafton street.
A. W.
Such a fun place to go for some food. Food and staff are all great. Well worth it.
S. S.
the pizza resembles cardboard and food isnt very hot so it goes cold quickly, but buffalo wings were amazing and burgers were nice. Chips tasted like they were frozen and reheated.
A. M.
Staff are friendly. Service is quick. Music is great. Food is exactly what you'd expect. Plenty of choice and large portions. You won't leave hungry.
A. D.
Nice atmosphere and reasonably priced good burgers. I first had a burger here in 1971, and they have maintained a good standard.
S.
Food not hot only warm.
I have been contact by management and am very pleased with how they took my review . Well done
S. P.
Lovely family place! Kids love it. Service is a bit slow, but then it's always very busy- we were there in the evening. Variety of foods, even with several vegetarian options!!
m. s.
Loved the food and staff super friendly. Not to expensive for were it is. Love the look of the place and the music.Very enjoyable. Will definitely come again.
H. M.
Food was nice, service was friendly but very poor, 20 minute waits at every possible opportunity
C. O.
Wow! What can I say about Captain americas on Grafton St
Super amazing staff, always there when you need them and always wearing a fashionable smile :)
Wide selection on the menu and some bargain deals for lunch, students, kids and a really great 2 course deal 😍
The building has a great vine with fantastic tunes and intriguing decor and memorabilia on the walls.
DID I MENTION THE AMAZING STAFF?
5 stars would highly reccomend!
R. H.
5 star food everytime the staff are attentive and look after you the best ! While the barmen whip up nice cocktails an the chef prefares your food to the hightest of startards what more could you want ! Restaurant is on grafton street in dublin basically the centre with lots of shops around so pop in for your lunch or dinner after a long day of shopping you wont be dissapointed.
A. S.
I just love this place. Staff really nice. Burger was a bit dry but my beer helped. A fun place to go to!!
J. B.
Gorgeous food and great potion sizes and prices. I love this place, the reason for the 4 stars is because it's a little stuffy and over crowded all the time but I know it's no ones fault as the building isn't big enough but over all great place to eat or drink , although drink prices are a little over priced
A.
I visited Captain Americas on friday night after a long time , as I have been living abroad for the last couple of years, the atmosphere was still like the old days. Friendly staff, good food, affordable prices. I couldnt ask for more! I will definately recommend this place to my friends.
B. P.
Amazing food and fabulous staff. Vanessa made sure we had everything we needed and more, an angel. Will definitely be back!
A. W.
Great choice for Vegetarians. Portions were very generous, and found it hard to finish my main meal after ordering a starter. Overall, great food!
J. G.
Good food, good service, good waiting area, has order, can get very busy which may deteriorate quality of service (30 min wait time for 4 people to get food), great at any time of day
B. M.
Really nice food ♥️🤤
W. R.
What can be said... if you want a great big serving in a cool rock memorabilia setting this is the place. Good staff, great food.
C. R.
Great food.
Tried twice this year and wasn't disappointed. I think they have new chefs in. Wings, burgers and fajitas were incredible!
M. C.
Loved it there. Absolutely great atmosphere and the food was delicious. Service was excellent as well. Will definitely go again.

Situated in the heart of Grafton Street Ethan american-style burger joint like T.G.I Friday's nothing more and nothing less, as usual the staff are fantastic at this spot. The location is kitted out with rock star memorabilia and has plenty of space.
N. A.
Great restaurant, awesome atmosphere with lots of signed guitars and records spread around the walls. Can be really busy so a booking by phone is recommended if you come as a group.
c. 8.
Good music, sound staff with wings, Philly cheese steak, great fries, whiskey, cocktails and beer...always kept happy here. Sometimed there is a wait but always worth the wait.
B. H.
Very friendly staff. Huge choice on menu. Excellent, large portions of food for the price. Great location. What's not to love?
R. K.
Every helpful with sons Gluten Free, not alot on menu but waitress was very friendly and helpful.
A. O.
Great food! Kind and friendly staff with a vibrant atmosphere. Strong recommend a visit. James was amazing and a great help
D. 1.
The 1st rating was actually a mistake I dint know how that could have happen as we were here as a group of maybe 16-20 celebrating a work anniversary and our waitress forgive me cannot remember her name was so nice and obliging and could not have done more, if your looking for a cool venue and good food definitely check this place out.
C. M.
Big portions at a great price and free soft drnk refills. Also has student deal. Love the sundaes too especially the cookie one
D. F.
Captain America’s was great as always. Love the central location and the friendly staff. Already looking forward to my next visit 😋
W. C.
Great food. Can get busy so expect waits. Pleasant staff.
N. K.
Meh! Food came too quick which makes me wonder was it pre cooked?! This place was great years ago. The food let's it down.
U. H.
We have been going to Captain America's on and off for 40 years. It still serves good food and drink with decent music and great staff.
B. B.
Best babyback ribs and service!
D. W.
Food was decent except for the pizza which was a gooey mess. Delivery to our table after ordering was a little slow. About 30 minutes. Prices where a little high.
M. B.
Service was quick and we got a good deal. Honestly the best Oreo milkshake I have ever had! Couldn't finish cause the portions are HUGE!
N. O.
Place was really busy. The staff were under pressure, but they handled it well. The food was really good too. Well worth a visit.
A. A.
Lovely place, lovely food, lovely staff. We were there for our 6 month wedding anniversary dinner and it was such a good choice. We will be back!

They have a wide selection of food on the menu, all top quality.
The food is priced well for the quality.

C. K.
Good food, staff are alright but the restaurant can get busy and load.
D. 1.
Food portions are great and the staff are very attentive. Constantly darting up and down between Thales making sure everyone is well looked after.
a. M.
Great place to eat and have cocktails, good music and atmosphere and its in a handy spot at the top of Grafton St. Can be hard to get a table sometimes.
B. W.
Awesome food! Love this place!! It's just like the North American sports bars I'm used to back home in Canada
J. W.
Great atmosphere, very friendly staff and tasty food at a good price - what's not to like?
D. v. M.
Staff is really down to earth and friendly. The place looks very nice. And the food is impeccably delicious. It's a bit pricy, but definitely worth every euro.
M. B.
I loved the food, but I hate myself for eating it all. Definitely some of the best nachos in town!
C. P.
The food is great here and the service is normally very fast and efficient, the restaurant itself is decorated in the typical americana style with numerous music legends immortalised on the walls,
I only have one negative thing to say and that is if you ok é to go out after eating here, you will smell like that food,
But other than that you will leave very full and posibly sleepy. 😁
D. F.
Good atmosphere for having fun with your friend with a wonderful music
J. M.
Cocktails, good food and busy atmosphère. Would recommend if you're looking for nice food, not too fancy nothing too plain
m. n.
Staff were excellent, good social distancing in place, food was good as always
t. m.
One just has to experience Captain Americas. Brought back some wonderful memories of when Chris De Burgh would play here, check out the other music memorabilia, a gem of a place.
P. M.
Captain America at its best. Can't fault the food here.
P. G.
Very nice to eat, but can get very busy at times. If you're going as a group, you have to pay all together for the food and there is no individual payments allowed :(
R. F.
My only problem here was that the restaurant was cramped. Food staff and decor great as always. Pricing is good not expensive and offer some good deals.
O. C.
Friendly staff and great atmosphere thought it tends to be busy. The food is tasty and they have a fine selection of alcoholic and nonalcolic drinks.
L.
Stunning place i shall say, good drinks and food good team work there.

M. R.
Great family restaurant. Tons of music memorabilia decorating the walls. Good music and good vibes. Not a chain restaurant and all the better for it.
s. o.
Big place, vast menu options, good for families and groups. Food was tasty, we all enjoyed our meals.
C.
Very good
D. D.
Grabbed a drink at the bar. Service was really slow, despite 3 bartenders sitting in front of us. We ended up leaving and heading elsewhere to grab a bite to eat.
D. T.
Great food and staff, long waiting times unless you book in advance.
K. O.
Always loved this place, server was excellent, burger was a bit dry, I guess mince was too lean, otherwise great

We like to go there with our four year old girl on weekends. The food (try the milkshakes) and service are good, and they have entertainment options for the kids.

Was a great night with a group of young people from the drama group at the Reco in Ballymun for a well deserved meal out.
