T. W.We had our Wedding ceremony & reception in The Stephouse Hotel, Borris on Friday, January 7 2022. What a beautiful venue in a stunning location with amazing views. The food and service was 5*. Our guests were delighted. Well done to Clodagh & all the team for creating a truly magnificent day.
P. D.Service. Lovely staff. Couldn't be nicer. We had lunch there today for four and it's no exerageration to say it was outstanding! I had a roast beef sandwich. Nothing much you could do with that, that hasn't been done already you might say as indeed would I. But not so. it was melt in your mouth delicious. Borris is such a lovely town too. Great pubs but that's another story....

The reception, rooms, décor, food and atmosphere were beautiful. From the drinks reception, to the main meal and then the evening reception everyone sang their praises about how amazing the food was, the quality, and the excellent service. I had such high expectations from eating there before but everything far exceeded my expectations and the food was out of this world. It was truly such an amazing day made so by the wonderful staff and setting of the Step House. A special thanks to all of the staff and in particular Clodagh, Alan and Katie who provided great advice, support, and service and really could not have done more for us. They had such great ideas with excellent attention to detail and no request was too big or small. Everyone really worked together with us in great detail and did an unbelievable job in bringing everything together to make our vision for our wedding come true. All of our guests praised and complimented everything from being greeted by a lovely cosy fire in reception, to the building, garden and décor, the cocktail bar and drinks reception, the exceptionally delicious food, the beautiful hotel rooms, and most of all the friendly, attentive and obliging staff.
From the moment we stepped inside the Step House we knew this was the place we wanted our wedding. The hotel is fabulous, the grounds are breath-taking and the reception and waiting staff are wonderful. It’s a real hidden gem tucked away in the middle of the picturesque village of Borris. We had to reschedule our wedding four times due to the pandemic and the Step House could not have been more accommodating. They were a real pleasure to work with. I would highly recommend this wonderful place as a wedding venue or as a treat for a couple of nights. It’s a pure gem.
C. F.The service was the thing that really stood out for me. The staff were very attentive and obliging. We had a lovely time sitting in the beautiful garden sipping cool drinks. The food was very good also. Boris is a lovely place for a short stay-5 minutes from the Barrow way and across the road from stunning woodlands. Highly recommend it.

p.Food was delicious, waiters were well trained and very polite. But pricing was very odd. One course €16. Two courses €25. OK, but deserts on their own €7. So if you had a main and a desert, it was €16 + €9 but mains and dessert separately were only €16 + €7???

The welcome we received made our evening so special and the care and fuss that was shown to my parents was heartwarming. The rooms are beautiful and our meal that night was perfect. The real fires in the bar and lobby made for such a relaxing stay.. It is a gem in a small country village and I would highly recommend a visit here.

This review is for the Step House Hotel bar, not the hotel itself.
Every time we call in for lunch, it always seems to be sunny here. The bar is low-ceilinged, and always warm and cozy. It has the feel of a comfortable library or study. You always get a very warm, very friendly welcome from the staff here. Food is excellent, and I think it comes from the same kitchen as the main hotel, so the quality is really high. If there isn’t a vegetarian option on the menu, they will make something up for you.
Step House Hotel bar is one of my very favourites in the region; I love it.

S. M.Stay was OK and food (dinner) is very tasty. Room is looking nice for sure. Hotel struggles with bad W-Lan in rooms. Depending on your room, you hear your neighbor very clearly due to the connection door. Facility is old but also sometimes broken (not able to close the balcony door, not able to get hot water in shower. Not worh the price (at least my room). But a nice location with the Bar and the fire in the lobby.

M. N.I don't like being negative about places but they could do so much better. The water glasses looked dusty. I ordered a toasted sandwich which came with a few chips. That was fine but a little salad would have made it looking an awful lot better. I think presentation is vital.

D. B.We ate here on a Sunday evening after arriving in Borris that day. I had the best Lamb meal I've ever had. It's called "A Taste of Lamb". It was fantastic. My wife had the Filet of Beef and she thought it to be very good.
Three nights later, we were there again with a group and the bar tender remembered us and we had a nice chat.
The fish and chips we had that serving night was bet good.
The Pint of Guinness was superb.
I'd highly recommend this place if your near Borris.

A. S.We had a very nice late lunch in the Pub of Step House Hotel in Borris, County Carlow, last June 2017, during our latest visit to Ireland. The seafood chowder as starter was delicious. My wife & I shared a portion & it was served in 2 separate warm bowls. It was more than enough for 1 person as a starter. We had sirloin steak as main meal with boiled broccoli & double deep fried potatoe chips for me with a glass of cabernet sauvignon was excellent. There is a good list of desserts to choose from with a cup of coffee to enjoy in the pub or in the garden beside the restaurant. Reasonable price and highly recommendable.
Latest visit to relatives near Enniscorthy, County Wexford, for 2 1/2 weeks last May 2019, we visited Step House Hotel Brasserie at Boris, County Carlow, twice. The first time we went was May 19. We did not have any booking. We were 4 person for our sunday dinner. We were accomodated without much delay. I had as starter Rabbit & Foie Gras Terine, for main course Roast Sirloin of Irish Beef & for dessert - warm chocolate mousse (praline, whipped lemon jelly & vanilla ice cream). They were delicious. The next time we visited the Brasserie was last May 26, 2019. We were 7 person for our Sunday dinner. We booked our table friday evening. Very prompt, friendly, good & professional service. Food are very well prepared, nicely presented & tasted delicous. One of our favorite restaurant in South East Ireland. Highly recommendable.
Update: September 22, 2019, Sunday lunch at Brasserie or Bar 1808 of Step House Hotel in Borris, County Carlow. During our recent 2 1/2 wks visit to relatives & vacation in Enniscorthy, County Wexford, we again visited one of our favorite restaurant in Ireland, Brasserie 1808 in Borris. We had a late lunch and enjoyed it immensely. The food presentation, the delicate balance of ingredients, the exciting aromas & exquisite taste of the cuisine is outstanding. Very friendly, fast & professional service from the personnel. Excellent Chef with remarkable & well planned Menu. My wife had the autumn vegetable soup as starter & I had a salad of seasonal melon (see descriptions on the Menu). We had as main dish - Roast of Sirloin of Irish Beef. We shared a bottle of Spanish Crianza 2014. For dessert, she had "Chocolate Cremeux" & I had "Pain Perdu". (Cost - €95.20, 3 courses with wine & coffee for 2 pers.). Very reasonable price. We highly recommend this place
b. h.Peroni on tap, beautiful gardens and at the top of the hill so no hassle with the old walking drunk stuff. Beautiful shiny marble floors with a nice set of steps there for any brides having second thoughts, a quick nudge there and problem sorted 😉 For weddings or just to lay your head while enjoying the views of the town (the people are iffy and a lot of em have fleas to be honest) you won't do better than here.

M. M.My friend Susan and I spent the best day and night catching up in the Step House Hotel last Friday night. We had the best time in this amazingly classy boutique hotel. The Step House is comfort and luxury all the way! We were greeted by big roaring fires, stunning Christmas decor and festive ambiance throughout. The staff are so accommodating and helpful, the 3 R’s - Ruth, Rebecca and Rachel could not do enough for us and the food was superb. We had the loveliest evening and the bedrooms were so lovely overlooking the Blackstairs Mountains. OMG the breakfast next morning was the best! Thank you Step House and if any of you ladies or lads are looking for an excellent getaway to catch up with old friends - well this is the place for you. We plan on making this a ‘bi-yearly girly get together’ going forward!! 👌👌 Mary

S.We had our wedding reception last month (march '16) in the fabulous little boutique hotel ...The Step House Hotel in Borris. We knew within 5 minutes of visiting the hotel that this was the venue for us ...our big search was over! It ticked all our boxes and more..... The setting is a beautiful little town in Co.Carlow with real village feel to it. The hotel itself is very tastefully furnished with cosy log fires, a warm atmosphere and the staff are buzzing about all friendly and helpful. The banquet room is fabulous when set up for a wedding and well worth a visit on one of their wedding showcase days!!!! Our wedding co-ordinator Angela could not have been more helpful and was crucial to keeping us focused coming up to the day to avoid any stress regarding the logistics of room planning etc..etc .!! And finally the FOOD!!!!! The food speaks for itself ...........all I can say is if you love GOOD food ............nip down there for a bite to eat on a Sunday afternoon and have a look around and you will not be disappointed!!!!!!!

Go for a drink, a meal or stay, you'll come away happy. The Step House also has the destinct advantage of being located in the ever charming Borris in the heart of historic County Carlow. Borris lays claim to being the home land of Borris house one of Ireland's finer country houses and home to the MacMurrough Kavanagh's who still live there and can trace their roots back over a thousand years to the old Kings of Leinster and perhaps more famously Strongbow through his marriage to their Aoife.
Whilst visiting the Step House and Borris, you would be missing out not to stop for a pint, or at least take a look into O'Sheas Shop and Bar on the main street of the town. Like the Step House it oozes old world charm though in a rather contrasting manor.
