It was the ideal location; on the quay in close proximity to Westport House and Gardens, which was a lovely walk from the Helm and enabled us to see the beautiful sunset in the evening. The restaurant had a lovely atmosphere and the food was excellent.

S. C.This place is absolutely incredible! The location is perfect only 5 minutes from the centre of westport. The staff in here are some of the best waiters, waitresses and barmen ive ever seen. Nothing was a problem to them and they went out of their way to accomodate us in every way. Shane and Vinny are 2 absolute gentlemen and all of the staff working there are a pleasure to deal with and work with a smile on their face. The food was delicious and the drinks were great. Never had to wait for a drink the staff worked so quickly and professionally. The apartments were lovely and had all of the appliances and space needed. Thanks for an amazing week and we will definitely be back!

For dinner time it is worth booking in advance due to its popularity. Unfortunately at the moment they are only catering for residents even though the inside dining is allowed, buy when things are back to normal I would book a table if I was you. It was great being back with old friends especially after the year we all have had.

A. M. O. C.My husband and I spent three lovely days in this fantastic apartment. It contains everything you'd want and more. And it is spotlessly clean. Mary the host is wonderful. So helpful and friendly. Couldn't do enough for us. She had delicious brown bread and a few extras in the fridge when we arrived. Not forgetting a lovely bottle of wine. Our stay was so enjoyable. We will definitely be back.

C.Apartment was nice & we were given fresh wheaten bread, butter, cheese, milk etc for our 2 night stay. Good location, however the restaurant was disappointing. The vegetarian options were bleak, the food was under cooked & cold and insanely overpriced for the quality. If you're staying i recommend eating elsewhere.

k. m.We ate at the helm one night this week. The staff are fabulous and the food was great. I had a steak and it was delicious. Also I just read that bad review about covid 19 nonesence. All the staff were wearing face shields and there were hand sanitising stations, plus thoroughly cleaned tables etc. so I will call that review out as misleading.
Most people are out to enjoy life and I would say guidelines were adhered to without being overtly in your face which is getting on my nerves in other places around the country. All in all, the people in my group highly recommend the helm if you're in westport.

One thing to mention, the kids menu has the option of a half portion of all main courses, not just the token chips and nuggets you get in some places.

G.Popped in here last weekend for dinner after hiking Croagh Patrick and experiencing all four seasons within an hour! The service was friendly and fast and the food was so quick coming out and delicious too. Out of the four of us (all big eaters) we couldn't even look at the dessert menus. Good value for Ireland and not a single bad thing to say. Would recommend to anyone staying in Westport

Huge menu to chose from with the only issue being food envy when all the food arrived to the table! Staff were extremely friendly and even though it was New Years Eve there were no delays. Would definitely recommend especially if you love seafood.
A.We had a large group for a hen party and this was easily the best decision we made. The food and drink was perfect and the apartments were perfect and there is even a taxi man always waiting around for trips in to town. The helm took all the stress of party planning away !! Loved it !!!

M. C.We were a huge family group calling in on spec but the waiter wasn't fazed at all. Nothing was too much trouble, and the welcome was warm. I had an open smoked salmon sandwich , which was delicious. Meanwhile, other members of the party had 'half' portions of a roast dinner, a brilliant touch. Overall, our experience was very pleasant, and I can see why this venue is so popular.
T. M.We had a wonderful dinner here, the food and service we're great. The seafood chowder was absolutely the best and the salmon and crab fishcakes were very good. They have a nice selection of beers, wine, and whiskeys.

D. K.Nice pub with a great atmosphere. We stopped here during the day and the place was full of people but not too many, it was a warm and welcoming atmosphere. We were served quickly and politely. Later in the night we came back for drinks and there was lovely music playing which was great. Considering there was a very large group of us we were welcomed in. They even cleared some tables off to the side to make a little area were we could all chat and dance.

D. C.Great irish food here. Menu is quite big so was doubtful how good the dishes would be given the variety but did not disappoint. Staff are friendly but it is a really busy venue so do seem to be rushed off their feet but they looked after us really well. Maybe another 1 or 2 front of house would be beneficial for speeding up paying the bill and getting check backs on the meals

G. C.Had dinner here. Researched a few of the local restaurants in town and liked the look of their menu. I was a bit disappointed. The food was nice, but nothing to write home about. I certainly can't complain about the quantity as they really know how to feed you, but the quality for the price just wasn't there. Calamari rings just tasted fried and didn't taste of anything else. Steak and fish was overcooked. It's a pub restaurant rather than a restaurant. If you're looking a quiet fancy night out, this isn't the place for that as it was full of families and children. The staff were friendly but the service wasn't at all polished - e.g. had to ask for cutlery, took a while to be seated. Probably my own fault but I think the website made it out to be more than it actually was.
A. M.I visited The Helm a couple of times over the summer and I was very impressed with the service and food every time. Gorgeous seafood options as well as steak etc. The portions were very generous too. Lovely location and nice atmosphere. Good job to all the staff and management. Very busy most times I passed near by so a reservation is advisable especially in the evenings or at the weekend.

N.Have often eaten here in the past as a vegetarian and was always delighted. Popped in on a very very busy Saturday evening and asked if it was possible to do a vegan option. The owner was more than happy to speak to the chef and gave me a couple of options. The attention to detail was just amazing, staff from owners being really hands on to the waiting staff
were lovely, even dealing with the happy bunch of stags singing the rattling bog....
My partner had fish cakes which he said we're fabulous.
Will definitely be back, a regular couple of plant based options on the menu would be great even for those just wanting to do their bit for the planet....

Booking a table is a must. It was very busy on a friday evening, around 8pm.
Would liked to have tried a meal, but was on a budget and we found that what we wanted was not available.
Probably a little too posh for us, as also reflected in prices.

B. L.We stayed at the Helm last Saturday night (Bank Holiday weekend). We were late arriving and check in is at the bar. Even though the bar was heaving with people, the barman greeted me in a way that made me feel like I was an old friend he had been looking forward to reuniting with all day. He was in no way rushed and got someone to show us where we were staying. The restaurant was booked out but we were offered the menu and told someone would bring our food to our apartment. I thought this was so nice considering the apartment was a few doors down. We decided to wait outside in the sunshine and the waitress brought it out and again I felt I was talking to an old friend who advised me on what I should microwave and reminded me to put ice cream in fridge etc. I cannot emphasize how friendly and familiar the staff are. It really made us feel so welcome. The apartment itself was outstanding! We have two children and we had a two story apartment - two spacious, clean, bright bedrooms - great shower in the bathroom. Downstairs small kitchen, TV, dining area and couches with views of the harbor. Breakfast was delicious and having checked out early in the day we ended up returning there for late lunch before returning home. There was great music in the bar on Saturday night and if you are coeliac like me they are very enthusiastic about making a meal work for you. My only disappointment with the Helm was that they couldn't accommodate us for a second night! Can't recommend it enough. And it was also very reasonably priced to boot! Will definitely be back.

Croagh Patrick & the Clew Bay Beaches and tons of family activities including fishing and boat trips and adventure parks but you need to add The Helm pub & restaurant to this list. This family friendly establishment is warm and friendly and has a great menu.
Thoroughly enjoyed my time in The Helm.

Having visited Westport many times the helm is without doubt the best I've stayed in of all my visits.
Staff focus on customer care is second to none on my visits to Westport .
Greeted immediately on arrival by barman who I think was PJ and felt like I knew him a long t ime as the greeting was there each time I walked into the bar.
Owners son's and all the staff are a credit to the business and are a Mayo team that takes beating .
Could reach some of their competition a lot about customer care skills.
Accommodation food service and pricing reasonable .Thank you for a really enjoyable stay. Will be my only choice when staying in Westport again👌👌👌
