One of the biggest hospital in the region, they have all quality doctors from most of the specialities! Big cheers to the hard work whole staff is doing there day and night.

Long queue to speak to single staff member dealing with admissions. Waiting area crowded and hot and the wretched Judge Judy playing on all TVs in the waiting area

To begin with, I went to A&E about 2 months ago after a very fall and subsequently badly injured my right ankle about 1 month ago. I went to A&E 02:00am. I waited to see
The Triage Nurse
3 x x-rays
Doctor on duty
On discharge at 05:00am I was given prescriptions for:
10 days supply of prescriptions for 1 x Extreme Pain Killer and
1 x Inflamatories which a kind friend of mine got for me from my local Pharmacy the following morning.
I was given 1 x crutch. All in all, I had only spent 3hrs in A&E and then got a taxi home. This was the shortest time I had had on ever visiting A&E! I was extremely lucky as it was not busy.
I rested up at home as I was in terrible pain. 10 days later I rang Physio and arranged for my friend to go collect 2 x crutches for me which I very much needed.
After 2/3 weeks I gradually got more accustomed to using the crutches. As I had never before used a pair of crutches. I didn't go outside my apartment, but I soon got busy exercising getting quite mobile around the inside of my flat.
1 month after my fall, my ankles and lower legs began to regularly swell up and as a Diabetic Type 1 (DT1), I thought it prudent to go to A&E and have them checked out.
This was about 11 days ago as both my ankles and lower legs were swelling up, so I went to A&E once again!
It was a very busy night @ A&E. I arrived their around 20:30 hrs.
I first had to wait to see a Triage Nurse to be assessed & @ 22:00 hrs, I was assessed.
I then had to wait until 02:00 to see one of the doctor's on duty.
I had blood taken plus x-rays. I stayed in A&E until 10:30am and was transferred to the Muckross ward on the 3rd floor.
I stayed 8 days having several procedures over the 8 days:
Several Blood tests
2 x MRI's,
2 x Doppler Surveys:
(1) on my ankles &
(2) The lower legs (as in my calves)
2 x Ultrasounds
I am a Diabetic Type 1 so I also had several more blood tests
I had a Diabetic Insulin Review
The Dietician Review
The Diabetic Dietician gave me detailed typed notes on food diet that was recommended for DT1
2 x Physio Sessions
The food was absolutely delicious 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟
The Consultants concluded that due to poor control of my blood sugars over the previous ongoing years since I discovered that I was Diabetic @ 12 years of age!
My nerve endings were not fusing/nerve ends were not connecting as quickly as I would have liked. I will be going for fortnightly Outpatient appointments to review how my right ankle will be progressing.
On the 8th day I was discharged.

Friendly, professional, caring.

It's a bit old and rough around the edges but I have had only great experiences here. All the staff I've dealt with from check in, radiology, surgery centre to specialists have all been kind, helpful, friendly, professional and caring, except 1 doctor who was filling in, but that's out of many visits. Sometimes the wait can be a bit much but the staff is helpful and accommodating which helps so much.

Always a pleasure to attend here, you don't get nicer people looking after you anywhere

I was a patient for 2 weeks in Aghadoe ward. From the moment I arrived to the moment I left the standard of care was exceptional. Doctors, Nurses, Health Care Assistants, Porters, Catering staff, Cleaning staff, Technicians - everyone I met was so professional and kind. The nurses and doctors were phenomenal. The level of respect for patients that I experienced and witnessed with other patients was amazing. It is not easy being in hospital in pain and completely dependent on others in the early days but staff made it as easy as it possibly could be. I was completely confident in the care and treatment I was receiving. On top of which, even rushed off their feet they always managed a word or a chat to raise your spirits. I could not speak highly enough of every staff member I encountered as a patient on Aghadoe.

Had shoulder operation here recently, the care I received was excellent and all of the staff from my surgeon ms eimear Conroy, all the nurses on both wards which no money would pay for the work they do,to the lovely ladies that brought me tea, food etc,a great hospital in very difficult times, thanks very much and god bless all of you😊

Like most hospitals in Ireland due to chronic staff shortages, severe overcrowding & a system no longer fit for purpose. Waiting times at A&E are long and extremely stressful bordering on inhumane.
People (the majority being elderly & of both genders)having been "admitted " have to endure days on trolleys in busy corridors while waiting for a bed on a ward.Having spent 50+ hours myself in this Hogarth's vision of Bedlam, I was finally found a place on one of the. wards.
From then on the overwhelmed(undervalued & underpaid) Staff From The Consultant's, doctors, nurses, down to porters, cleaners & The fantastically uplifting 'tea ladies' Were Without Exception, The Most Caring,Contentious and absolutely professional & Cohesive team one could wish to meet when at your lowest & Most Vulnerable .As a socialist trade unionist who was born & raised in Birkenhead (Merseyside UK) it's with a great tinge of sorrow (& not a little envy) when I say, Once
inside the hospitals Like UHK the service & care provided put's The UK's(Tory Destroyed) NHS to shame.

They are very busy, I waited for 6 hours to get my heel checked after an accident.
They are working very hard to help everyone in need, but it seems like there is not enough staff to keep up.
Big respect to everyone there.

In spite of the long waiting time (surely there was a shortage of staff at midnight), the staff there was really helpful. Their hospitality made me feel much better, especially the nurses. Thank you all!

I was there on Wednesday and Thursday last week , I had to wait which was understandable as it was very busy . The service I received was superb , the staff Doctors and nurses were very thorough . They deserve a lot more praise and thanks , so thanks for all your great help . Patricia Griffin , Tralee.

The Hospital delivers excellent care with the resources available. A+E is usually swamped with patients but according to how unwell you are; you may be seen immediately (heart attack, stroke, etc.) or you will wait if you are likely not that sick (vomiting, stomach pains, infection, small injuries). It is important to understand that everyone is seen according to urgency. If it's busy and 2 heart attacks and a stroke arrive, yes, you will wait with your fever and vomiting for many hours. The hospital has CT-scanner, MRI, Ultrasound, an interventional radiologist, who can put in drains and long term iv-lines. Currently there are general surgery, orthopaedic surgery, gynaecology and obstetrics, psychiatry, general internal medicine, with sub-specialists in Geriatrics, Rheumatology, Gastro-Enterology. Cardiologist visits once weekly only. Once weekly Neurologist. Once weekly Renal specialist. There is a dialysis unit and endoscopy unit. A helipad is there for urgent transfers. Palliative medicine consultant is available here too. Overall a hospital that punches well above it's weight!

From the moment we arrived to leaving one month later, my son John had the most wonderful experience .... the A&E staff, porters, office staff (who offered late night macdonalds), all staff on Cashel ward, theatre staff, physo staff, OT staff, canteen staff...each were so great to John, we will never forget the constant kindness to the poor Dublin boy who fell off a swing on holidays !! John is lucky he is now recovering at home, I am very thankful for all the wonderful care he received ....

There have been many improvements to this hospital. There is still work going on in some sections. There is also a very capable team now of doctors and nurses.

(Translated) I received medical aid several times, including a 10-day stay. I have heard various opinions, I am satisfied with both medical care and food, cleanliness and nursing care in the rooms. I wish you all health without resorting to the services of the hospital.

(Translated) Emergency service as in Spain. SLOW. Apart from that, good attention and friendly. It must be that public health is the same everywhere in Europe.

Servicio de urgencias como en España. LENTO. Aparte de eso, buena atención y amables. Debe ser que la sanidad pública es igual en todas partes de Europa.
