Stayed in cottage 16. Warm, quiet and a very nice little kitchen. The staff are very nice and helpful and the Abbey is also wonderfully located if you want to visit all the surrounding towns (specifically for tourists).

Lovely building and grounds, nice quiet location. Big room with fully stocked kitchen. Free coffee and tea in the mornings and laundry facility. Lots of historical sites in nearby towns. Staff member Liz is very helpful and friendly. There is even a cute grounds cat to keep you company!

We are really enjoying our stay at this resort. It is in very beautiful countryside, and there are plenty of places to visit and learn from. Our little cottage in the Abbey grounds is warm and comfortable and we were warmly welcomed at reception.

Wonderful! Not for those who want a luxury spa and 5 star dining. This place is a hidden jewel of history and architectural magnificence. Comfortable, not opulent. Wonderful hosts. (Derrick and Liz)
The party on Tuesday nights in the Black Abbots dining room was great fun.
The grounds are manicured and the garden is well tended. It is quiet and hidden and perfect for a cultural explorer.

Could be lovely but, furnishings are very tired. Whole place is in drastic need of refurbishment. You definitely need a car to visit as there is no public transport and taxis are expensive. There a couple of pubs in walking distance but that's about it.

Quite a pleasant stay, however the plumbing was atrocious - the kindest way to describe the shower is grossly inadequate, and the tiny bathroom itself was freezing. Our room was lovely and warm though.
Our bed was quite comfortable, but the fold out couch was seriously uncomfortable as a bed, even for a child. As a sofa it was also uncomfortable.
The kitchen was not very user friendly but it was adequate.

Quaint accommodations in a very small town. Quiet, romantic, historic. It's a lovely place for a couple or family to stay while they adventure in southern Ireland. It's within walking distance of a pub and a hotel for eating and drinking with local people.
Don't expect new accommodations (high-speed internet, fancy kitchen, etc.) It's old and eclectic which makes it wonderful.

Stayed here this past week with my family. Loved the grounds and the building was a pleasure to explore. The staff were lovely and only work in the morning so you have the run of the place in the afternoon and evening. There's a tennis court with racquets and balls provided, a full size snooker table and a table tennis table on the first floor. The location was convenient for exploring several great sites including Woodstock House and Gardens, Kilkenny City and Waterford City. They lose a star for the quality of the beds. The mattress in our room was poor and only a double and the pull out couch mattress that the kids used was even worse. Not being able to get a good night's sleep would stop me coming back here which is a shame as I really enjoyed every other part of the experience.

It is quite and natural countryside, the village has shop and petrol station combined, the Carroll's Hotel is a great place to eat and to drink. The people are very friendly.

Beautiful, quiet location, some features a little tired.
We are having a very enjoyable stay here: the location has made a good springboard for exploring Kilkenny, Waterford, etc. We are staying in one of the lodges, not the main abbey building. The accommodating is roomy and pleasant enough.
So why not 5 stars? Our double bed has the bounciest mattress we've ever slept on. Every time one of us moves slightly at night, the other is wobbled around. Finally, there's a tennis court and a full size snooker table but they've both seen better days as have the rackets & cues. Still, we are loving our jaunt to Ireland.

I am reviewing again. Last week I apparently hit the one star button accidentally . Thr whole place was gorgeous. I felt like I was staying in a very comfortable castle. The staff are awesome. The surroundingd are breathtaking.

A reasonable place to use as a base location - accommodation is comfortable but there are no services or amenities on site. There is a petrol station with a general store within easy walking distance.

This is a well hidden gem by a very small village. Love the whole vibe. Yes it can be chilly and is old but that is what an abbey is. The place has charm.

Conveniently located in the south of Ireland great place as a home base for day trips to Waterford, Wexford, Cork and Kilkenny. Some renovations would be welcomed and newer beds.

A wonderful place to stay! Fantastic and personal customer service. The Tuesday dinner was a great evening. I could not be happier!

Good place. Tennis and other facilities. A bar and a pool would be nice, but it's small so fair enough.

Lovely rooms and the staff are fabulous. Grounds are beautiful and don't miss the local pubs music on Sunday night.

Historical charm is amazing but the facilities and amenities as lodging are lacking.

(Translated) Pretty nice and looks very pretty. The snooker table in the main building is also very fine. The stove in our apartment, however, was hardly usable, which has limited us quite a bit in cooking. Otherwise, eh fits the most and with the prices you really should not complain ...
