F. A.A Short History John and Elsie Clarke founded Johnstown Garden Centre in August 1974, on a greenfield site in the quaint Norman village of Johnstown, Co. Kildare in Ireland. The company expanded rapidly and in 1980, sons Jim and Sean joined the firm and today manage the site jointly. - tripadvisor
m. f.Wasn't too busy. Thought there might be a few New Year bargains going but they were very few reductions. Prices are higher than most other garden centres but the quality is always good.

Especially when I heard from many ppl place is strong point with good plants and wide range of them.

P. K.It's a pleasure to even just walk around this store. Variety of products is enormous, anything you can possibly want for your garden, is here. Potted plants, bushes, seeds, garden statues, benches, sheds, outfits and even a few products to pamper and nourish yourself. Cafeteria inside the shop will provide mouthwatering food to keep you energised throughout your shopping experience. They haven't forgotten about the youngest members of the family, playground to be enjoyed on fresh air.
M. P.We had a delicious meal then browsed around the garden and gift shop. Somethings were a bit pricy but if it's something you really want it's worth it. Just browsing was an enjoyable experience. We found everyone we dealt with kind and helpful.

c. c.Large modern building with ample parking. While there is a good range of plants, tools and other gardening accessories, this is more like a superstore with cafe, food, household and clothing franchises. It's all about maximising footfall. Personally, I prefer a garden centre to be just that... a garden centre where staff are knowledgeable and passionate about plants and gardening.... A place where you can get advice and inspiration for your garden.
Unfortunately Johnstown does not do it for me.
On leaving the store, I noticed several "hedgehog shelters" for sale. The construction included a metal frame, wire and plastic, which the "hedgehog rescue society" say cause many I juries to adult and baby hedgehogs and advise against their sale and use. I spoke with a manager and explained this but he didn't seem interested and just said that they stock them because customers ask for them. Surely garden centre staff should be advising customers about the danger of such designs rather than profiting from them.
S. R.Updating my review to 5 stars. I bought a set of outdoor Christmas lights from here and after testing them first, then putting them up (which took me ages because I didn't know what I was doing) the plug was faulty. Johnstown Garden Centre, in fairness to them, went way above and beyond in helping me figure out the problem and fixing it for me. They were so friendly and professional, trying multiple avenues to make sure that I left a happy customer. They could have just shrugged and given me a refund, which would also have been fine customer service, but instead they wanted to find a solution that would make me the most happy, not just satisfy me. They've made a loyal customer for life with me after that. Thank you!!!

W. R.Got a whole pile of fantastic indoor plants to suit our biophillic dental surgery. Best source of houseplants outside of the M50 as far as I can work out. Maybe there are others, but do they have a lovely café for Sunday lunch?

Great selection of outdoor living - plants, pots, ornaments, furniture, water features; etc. They also have homeware items for every room in your home - kitchen; living room, etc. They have teamed up with a company who provides and/or designs your perfect home conservatory. Onsite restaurant that has an extensive menu. Loyalty card, wifi, public toilets, carparking

G.I really enjoyed visiting this garden centre today. It is huge and they had everything you could possibly want for your garden. I especially liked the small touches like having pictures and descriptions next to the trees to help you visualise how the plant could look in the garden when full grown. The plants were also organised in groups for shade, shade and damp, etc. It made it so much easier when looking for plants for a particular space. They even had kits to make raised veg beds and cold frame tops. They had everything!

One small suggestion though for the coffee van currently in the outside space, maybe don't give everyone a paper bag for their cake/cookie unless they ask for it. Saw so many people with perfectly untouched paper bags that were going straight into the bins.

j. o.The centre looked a little bare in parts but enough to still look lovely. Wide range of beautiful plants and grasses and trees. There were a lot of very very dry plants in sections a whole trolly out with dead (or very close to it) plants. Possibly headed for the bin. A fair amount of stock with no prices and there were planted areas that had a lot of weeds and stingers, which is very unusual for a top class garden center. Overall the garden center needs a bit of TLC, weeding and pricing stock.
The Cafe - excellent, pricey but well managed, spotless and plenty of friendly staff. Plenty of social distancing between really nice tables, a very large non smoking area which was very much appreciated.
Overall I would still highly recommend a visit to the center. I'm sure the points highlighted above are a glitch and will be addressed over the next few days.

A wide selection of many things from plants and shrubs to homesware and even a Christmas shop, not to mention every possible item to care for our wild feathered friends. Only disappointment was how few bulbs were available. Usually at this time of year there is so many varieties available.

A. K.The garden center is really big with a huge range of products. We also had lunch there, the restaurant was well spaced out (social distance-wise) they have a menu at the door but other options inside. There were very few Vegetarian options that I could see, or at least they weren't clearly marked. My husband is not a vegetarian and he found that there wasn't great variety of hot food options. He had a pre-made tuna and cheese melt. We also had breakfast there another time - we ordered eggs well cooked and there was a really long wait time for anything off menu. We waited for about 20 minutes for two eggs.
R. K.I've shopped here so many times, principally because of the quality of the plants. Not only do they usually have what I'm looking for but i can order specimens and they are available the following week.
It is also absolutely great to have the staff that you can discuss bedding sites, growth, pruning, drainage and all the other issues that go with maintaining a great garden.

Placed my order from a great selection of stuff on the website. Had to change one plant in the order, this was no problem, great communication throughout. I've never ordered plants online before so was curious and apprehensive at the same time... plants came within 2 weeks, which was great considering it's probably a very busy period. Wrapped up carefully and in great condition. Have already ordered again, and imagine I will do so multiple times. Looking forward to getting up to see the place in person.

L. C.I love you! We've been trying so hard to find appropriate compost for our Bonsai tree and we found none that is actually good enough. We spent days on the internet and found only out of stock situations, pest inflicted composts and unreliable shops. I was at my wits end because our Bonsai is a trooper and we love him very much. He became pot down very very fast and his leaves started showing signs that he needs re-potting. Anyway! Thank you so much! I cannot describe my gratitude. The man who answered the phone, resolved the situation within minutes! I wish you all my best, I will order again, and I hope that your business thrives no matter what.

D. G.So I really like this garden centre. It has an excellent selection of plants and I presume, knowledgeable staff. I've been in there a few times recently checking out which flowering plants are bee magnets. But no one has ever dropped me to ask if they could help me, hence 4 stars
I fully understand that clients have to be respected in terms of space and privacy, but a casual polite enquiry is a positive thing that can add to sales.
Excellent facilities, nice restaurant. Prices are reasonable, but you can do better with nurseries.

P. N.My favorite garden center, its far from where i live in Swords but i never regret the visit. Huge stock of plants, although they could have a better stock of trees which is why i only gave 4 stars. They also have lots of equipment, and a gift shop with all sorts of home decor, but apart from the plants i like the clothing section because they have some pretty cool coats and jumpers from designer brands. I also love their coffee shop.

I have seen this garden centre grow from a couple of glasshouses on a half acre site in Johnstown village (with the "office" operating from a very small touring caravan) to the thriving business it is today based entirely on the outstanding quality of both their goods and their service.
Long may it continue.

C. C.Ordered a Prunus Shirotae last week, and it arrived to my house this morning! Had issues with the courier, but that's something I'm taking up with FastWay and in no way a reflection on Johnstown Garden Center.
The tree is beautiful and very tall and healthy, and my mother absolutely adores it! It's most definitely worth the wait, and I will be recommending here to anyone looking for plants and trees!
B. H.We have ordered plants a few times from Johnstown Garden Centre. The delivery is exactly as described and the plants arrrive in perfect condition. We had one issue with them where we were sent green beeches by accident instead of copper beeches. One e-mail sorted the issue, and within a week we got a delivery of 24 copper beech plants, again, in perfect condition.
We absolutely recommend them to everyone.

C. D.Just planted the beautiful weeping cherry tree Barry had delivered form Johnstown Garden Center. Over a year ago now a trolley dinged my car on a vert windy day in there car park. Barry was kind enough to offer me a €50 gift voucher which I used to buy my Father a cherry tree to commemorate his 90th birthday last week. Barry remembered exactly what happened when I called more than a year later and delivered the tree the same week. Much appreciated.

W. F.Johnstown Conservatory Designs are a model business as they aim at giving the customer what the customer wants. There was excellent co-ordination between all of the teams involved in the project and also with other contractors who were doing work on the rest of the house at the same time. The key to this was the leadership and management by Peter Clarke and Mark Quinn. We are very pleased with the final product and we are now looking forward to decorating and using our conservatory.
