Went on the Whiskey Tasting and Distillery tour. It was brilliant. Loads of great information about the different drinks and the history behind them. Some very delicious drinks to taste also. Would highly recommended

Nice environment, good place to visit with friends and family (adults!🤣).

We visited for a tour on our honeymoon recently and would thoroughly recommend! The tour was super interesting and enjoyable - a great (and really tasty) way to learn about the history of distilling Poitin, Gin & Whisky in Ireland.
D.
Great experience, even better product. Definitely recommend. They distill the best gin I have ever tasted and the poitin is excellent as well!! Can't wait to get back. Please hurry up and get this stuff to the States!!

A really great distillery experience, the distillery is based in the old brewery that belonged to the Oslo bar. Distillery tours run Tuesday to Saturday and last for approximately one and a half hours. The tour can be booked online and I would recommend booking in advance to save disappointment. The tour is very well structured and you get lots of history on the production of poitín and the history of the spirt in Ireland some of the old equipment used to make poitín is on display. I had 3 drinks as part of the tour a micil mule, micil gin and micil heritage poitín three very tasty drinks with all products being made on site. There is a really nice selection of merchandise available for purchase after the tour from hip flask, glasses, t-shirt and bottles of the various alcohol tasted on the tour. There is lots of parking available directly outside or in the car park across the road. 5 stars.

We chose this spot based on the reviews and it did not disappoint in the slightest. Pádraic is warm, kind, and knowledgeable. His love and care for his family’s heritage brings a simple story fully to life. We learned a lot and left with a bottle of gin, the nicest I’ve had in a while. If you’re on the fence, do it!

Had a fantastic time and learnt loads about the history for spirit distilling in Ireland. Had 3 drinks as part of the tour also, gin and tonic, poitín mule, and heritage poitín. Well worth the trip.

Amazing tour - highly recommend! Pádraic is incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and informative. I would highly recommend this as a must see in Galway. Truly a treat.

Intimate and entertaining lesson about the history of spirits in Ireland and Europe. Pádraic is a great host, and he is very proud of the business, family run for 6 generations.
The taste of turf and Connemara wild flowers is perfectly embedded in the hand crafted Poitin and Gin.
Can't wait to taste their Whiskey

Brilliant tour. Poitín is such an important part of Irish heritage so it's surprising that there's so few places to learn about its history. Thankfully, Pádraic offers a tour that is fascinating, informative and great fun. And importantly, the drink itself is delicious. A Micil and ginger beer is a really refreshing cocktail and the Micil gin and tonic is a crowd pleasure everyone will love. But the real star is the new Heritage poitín. Lots of bottles and merchandise available to buy too to remember your visit! An absolute must if you're in Galway.

I enjoyed the distillery tour and tasting immensely.
Having visited Galway a number of times it was a new attraction for me. From the tasting of gin and poitín, to the stories of how Micil became the brand it is today, I was so intrigued and held captive by the presentation of everything.
I would recommend this tour to anyway visiting the area. I'll be recommending it to all my friends.
Thanks Pádraig.

Great tour, good information! Book online before, but we booked in the morning and it was no problem. Check out their website. Go through the pub "micro distillery" is labelled outside.
Very generous with the tastings too!

Founder is a legend, awesome tour - been on many distillery tours in the U.S. and this was the best. Cheers!

Amazing tour and very informative! I was very impressed with the work they are doing especially that they are testing every single batch and quality control is done by the family eldest. And of course Jimín, love his work! It really comes across that he is the heart of the operation.
Highly recommended and very fun tour!

Great tour! Lovely guide. Very good potin and gin!

There's a lot of history behind Micil's Poitin, and it's all great and full of interesting family anecdotes. We had a great time, and of course the best was to try Micil Poitin, the Traditional with ginger beer and the Heritage are top top top products, I had to get a couple of bottles, really recommend to stop by and get one if you can. Thank you Padraig !!

An amazing experience with Pádraic in the distillery. He is very passionate about what he does and made for an incredible experience.

A great time learning about this wonderful family and their heritage of distilling. I am usually not a fan of whiskey and gin but I was converted today. The smoothness, the taste, all of it was quite nice. Padraic was a very eloquent speaker. He gives a great introduction to the history and traditions. I highly recommend anyone traveling to Ireland stop over in Galway and visit this gem.
J. H.
Friendly, informative and some great spirits to try!

Fantastic experience. So much history and background information provided along with the tastings of poitin and gin. Padraig is a superb host. He is passionate about poitin and it was a pleasure to listen to the history behind his family legacy and the detail of the distilling process. Highly recommend this for a visit in Galway!

A really fantastic distillery in the heart of galway, we visited during covid 19 and the experience was very good, all measures were taken to ensure our safety and we could see that the experience had been tailered to the new regulations. Padraic the owner was a brilliant host and gave so much information on the distilling of micil poitin and gin, a very likeable and personable host, would recommend a visit, you will not be disappointed!
P's probably the nicest gin I've ever tasted.
D. C.
Great trip to the Micil Distillery. Very interesting talk about the distilling process and the history behind the distillery itself. The Micil Poitín Mule was gorgeous as well as the Micil Gin! Great activity to do during a stay in Salthill.
S. B.
Great Distillery Tour, Very interesting and lots of good information. Would 100% recommend this tour if you are visiting Galway. Pádraic who runs the tour is very professional.
K. S.
Excellent tasting. Informative, fun and in a great space. Spirits were delicious and now Poitín is a favorite of mine! Pádraig runs a great operation and the pride he has not only Micil, but in the history of Irish spirit making as a whole is wonderful. Highly recommend booking a tour while in Galway. Sláinte!

Great Tour and a really great owner!
We had an exclusive tour and learned a lot about poitin and its history with whiskey!
The spirits taste great, I really loved the gin with Connemara botanicals. Absolutely worth a visit.
T. M.
Excellent tour. Three drinks included and plenty of Irish distilling history told by a friendly and informative guide. Highly Recommended.

Top class tour. Best I've brewery/distillery tour I've done. Held my attention all the way through. Few gems of Irish history of alchahol thrown in and worldwide history of all alcohol and how its all connected. Great little Saturday afternoon filler before heading out .
K. M.
Really interesting and entertaining walk through the history of distilling in particular whiskey, poitin and gin. The tastings were excellent especially the heritage poitin which is a most unusual, if not unique and delicious spirit. Well worth a visit.

Organized a tour here for my brothers stag this weekend. There was 15 of us down for the weekend. The tour is run by the owner of the distillery, Padraic, he is a great guy! He is a third generation poitin distiller. He told us all about the history of poitin, how it became illegal and the ingredients that go into making it. We all got to taste his poitin and his gin, delicious! He gave us a tour of his production facility too. We then had dinner in the Oslo bar connected to the distillery. Great tour, well worth doing if you are in Galway!
J. N.
Absolutely first class distillery tour. Pádraic has an unbelievable amount of knowledge and a top man. Fantastic tasting session and history lesson all rolled into one, couldn't recommend the tour and the drinks highly enough, thanks Pádraic!
A. B.
We had a really interesting tour at the Micil Distillery tonight. Thank you Pádraic (merci beaucoup)!
M. A.
Visited Pádraic in January 2018 when he was still in the beginning stages of setting up his distillery. His enthusiasm and amazing story he told when talking about his poitín and the history behind it all and you can 100% tell that this stuff is special when you take your first sip. Made sure to purchase a few bottles and still break them out from time to time. Really delicious with lemonade! If you happen to find yourself in Galway, make it a point to stop by and get yourself a bottle. Sláinte!

we had a fantastic tour! Pádraic was a wonderful host.
Great to learn the history of putin in Ireland!
Wonderful experience.

Micil Distillery is a hidden gem with a deep history, delicious gin and poitin, and a genuinely gracious owner/staff. After ordering Micil gin at Oslo Bar, I was encouraged to knock on the doors of the distillery tucked away behind the bar. Although I appeared unannounced near the close of business, Pádraic greeted us with a smile and proceeded to share his story and tastings. Micil is creating a beautiful tour and tasting experience with no detail left unturned. I look forward to watching the company blossom and recommend the distillery experience to anyone visiting Galway and surrounding areas - you won’t be disappointed!

By far the top of our distillery tours in Ireland. What a gem to have found this experience in Galway. Padraic, founder and distiller at Micil, charmed and informed our party of three in the history and art of the distillation process. The highlight? A product that more than backed up every word. The poitin was our first experience with this spirit, but certainly won’t be our last. Next up, a gin that surpringly tossed Hendricks to the curb, in my opinion. Finally, we were treated to a rare tasting of the newest in the collection...heritage edition poitin. Absolutely astounding. Be sure to add this to your “MUST DO” list when visiting Ireland.
J. W.
Great time on the tour. Excellent Gin. We were there about 2 months ago and wish we could go back. If I had to pick a negative is you can't get Micil in the US! That needs to change ASAP!
R. M.
Really enjoyed our visit to Micil Distillery, Pádraic was very knowledgeable and it was great to have the grandson (many times removed) explain about the methods but also his family experience as well. Highly recommended.

Had a great time visiting the distillery. You can tell right away that Pádraic is passionate with his job and he will share many interesting stories with you. Best of all the products are delicious !
Go raibh maith agat Pádraic !

The tour was excellent! Learned a lot about distilling, the history of spirits in Ireland, and their products (which are all amazing).

Loved this Poitin and Gin guide and history talk by Pádraic. He also threw in a lot of info about Whisky too; to show when and why it split from Poitin. And of course there were some great tasters too.
But when it comes to the finishing touches, no one does it better than Jimmy "the man" 😉
G. W.
Really interesting to hear true craftsmen talk about their trade.
Padraic and Padraic were really nice to talk to and wery knowledgeable.
Their Poitin is great, but I think their Gin is even better.
C. R.
Such an awesome experience! Pádraic is extremely knowledgeable and took us through the entire tour. I wish I could get these products in the states, the bottles I purchased won't last very long 😂👍

(Translated) We went to the microbrewery to attend the tour where they explain how they produce Poitin, Whiskey and Micil brand Gin. Padraic was an excellent guide and we were able to do a tasting of all the drinks. Highly recommended if you want to do something original when visiting Galway

(Translated) We tried it out, a bit by chance, and are delighted to have shared a convivial, sympathetic and very interesting moment with the owners of this well-hidden place.
Arrived without a reservation, we were nevertheless greeted with a lot of kindness. We first tasted the Poitin and the Gin made on site and then discussed the history of the distillery and the "secrets" of the making.
Thanks for this great time!
If you happen to be in the area, don't hesitate for a moment to walk through the "Oslo Bar" pub and knock on the door of the Micil Distillery.

(Translated) Excellent taste of Micil Poitin and incredible personalized attention.
I am Mexican and they invited me to taste the Poitin, I was very satisfied with its flavor, when taken directly and combined, a very special fresh flavor is felt. When explaining its history, we realized that it is a drink that has existed for many years in Ireland, and also that it has a lot of acceptance, the person who explained it knows perfectly from when it began its elaboration because it is part of his family's history. We thank Padraic who invited us, and my friend Pery who took us. The place is first class, very beautiful, and I was able to realize the artisanal process that MICIL POITIN has.
