Wonderful stone, would climb again. Don't try to drive to it uphill on the track, it becomes 4WD/high clearance territory, and not cheap-rental-car compatible. You can drive to it on nice roads from the other direction.

Great place for a family walk stunning views and free

Even when the weather is terrible its definitely worth a visit. There is a path directly up to the stone. It is a huge quartzite boulder appears to have been deposited on the ridge by a receding glacier during the last ice age). All sorts of legends surround this stone one suggests that Fionn MacCumhaill hurled the Motte Stone from the top of Lugnaquilla Mountain. Metal bars have been hammered into it on one side to provide a ladder. The Motte Stone is probably the largest Bullaun stone in the country due to its cup shaped mark on its top surface

360° spectacular views of Wicklow mountains and stunning scenery in all directions especially on a clear sunny day.

A huge granite rock with an iron bar ladder inbedded into it with stunning Panasonic views, I was taken here as a child and came back 40 years later to relive some childhood memories with my cousin and husband and it certainly did just that. There are no amenities here it is what it is a point of interest that's fun to climb and enjoy the view and fresh air. It's accessible to a point by car but you have to do a small bit of walking uphill to get to it however it's well worth it!

I think the mines under it aren't accessible. Our geography teacher told us that the Motte stone is a lump of Scottish granite that was dumped on the hill by the glaciers. Might be true. You can climb up it and slide off it, kids love it. No wheelchair access. There's a parking area. Good views, the mine heaps are fab yellows and burnt orange colours.

Great views over surrounding countryside, part of a network of paths that one can walk down to the Avoca river through the historic east Avoca mines. The rock itself is a quick climb for an energetic child.
