This was a brilliant couple of hours, adult tickets were only €8 and for that you can walk all the way around the flying boat, and visit three floors of decent exhibitions. The highlight is obviously the boat, you'll almost miss the stairs to the upstairs where you can sit in the cockpit. The Maureen O'Hara collection has some wonderful pieces, including an actual Oscar statue, and the Foynes harbour section has some great history about the history of trade and industry in the area. Make sure you go all the way to the the fourth floor as you can go outside and use the binoculars to look out across the Shannon estuary.

Small sea plane museum in town of Foynes, Co. Limerick. Carpark outside. Access through resturant/cafe & gift shop.
Museum is interesting as it's full of facts regarding seaplanes landing in river Shannon. You get to see a real PAM seaplane. It's very big and impressive! You can go inside, sit in passenger seats, visit cockpit & navigation room. A must for any plane enthusiasts. Young children and adults can also enjoy a flight stimulation.
The main museum covers information about important locals, maps, Foynes boating & shipping memorabilia, navigation artifacts, weather reports, etc. Also little hologram video about the first Irish coffee made a served in Foynes. Due to covid restrictions Irish coffee wasn't available to purchase or enjoy!
Included in ticket price is the Maureen O'Hara exhibition, Maureen opened the museum in 1989 & visited it every year till her death in 2015. The exhibition is a little room of a few dresses, some awards and general information regarding Maureen. All items donated by her grandson.
Worth a visit if in area but only a once. Cost of 2 seniors, 1 adult and 1 child €39. Wheel accessible in main museum only.

Very interesting place and all exhibits still open during current Covid measures. Very good food in their cafe!
K. C.
Worthwhile visit, as a pilot, I appreciate the effort into preserving this important area in aviation history. Those were brave and skilled crews flying those boats across the Atlantic! The boys enjoyed the simulator and wanted to go back every day afterwards. Cool history of Irish coffee
L. S.
This is a great museum, lovingly maintained and very interesting. You can wander all around the flying boat, sit anywhere you want, ask any questions that you want, etc. The Maureen O'Hara tribute was nice, and informative as well. There's a small coffee shop if you'd like something to eat, and a decent gift shop as well. Go up to the top level to take pics of the harbor and the town.

Very interesting especially the part about the 2nd world war. Worth a visit.
G. B.
The museum also has restaurant inside where you can order varieties of food. They also sell souvenir items, warm drinks and the special Irish Coffee. Breakfast, lunch, desserts are available on the menu. Staffs are friendly and the price is okay.

Must-see stop along the beautiful South shore of the Shannon Estuary. The museum is class, evoking the '30s and '40s era of luxury travel. Great team and a lovely cafe. Thanks for looking after 14 of us Ellen last Saturday.
M. S.
Lovely experience nice bit of history and fun for all the family.
L. S.
Beautiful place to visit in Ireland. Didn't have a clue that flying boats ever existed. They were airplanes which landed on water, in Foynes. Travellers were welcomed with irish coffee to worm their blood.

What a nice place! 😍
You'll have a great experience visiting there. There are exhibition of historic objects and documents, educational videos (displayed on different ways), walk in the flying boat replica and a flight simulator!
We loved it!
K. T.
An intereating museum covering that brief period in history when flying boats were cutting edge, and crossing the Atlantic was an adventure, before WW2 interupted things and then the jet engine made the crossings mere routine.
Good exhibits, plenty to see and read and you get to have an Irish coffee where the drink was invented. (We started with that so we could 'walk it off' in the museum.)
Plenty of parking just outside, and really easy to find.
S. M.
We saw this museum on the way to Kerry and made a mental note to visit on way back. Very glad we did as this museum is great. Even if you only look at the website it is worth it as it is full of information and you'll be guaranteed to learn something you had no idea about.
Cost €28 for a family of four and the tour begins with a film about flying boat travel in a 40s cinema. Worth watching and not skipping.
The displays throughout the museum are interesting and well done and the odd spelling mistake makes you smile that it has been done by very enthusiastic supporters.
The replica Boeing Flying Boat makes you wish you had the chance to fly on it when it was such an adventure and a stylish thing to do.
If you have kids make sure they go to the kids area before heading to the replica otherwise you'll miss it and our kids loved doing the flight simulator.
The hologram theatre showing you how they came up with Irish Coffee is worth it though it is cold in there!
You can also tour the maritime museum and has a nice lookout with free telescopes to look over the area.
At the end is a lovely cafe where you can try your own Irish Coffee or buy a souvenir.
D. C.
Sadly the museum was closed due to Covid restrictions when we passed there. The drive to Ballybunion is one of the most scenic routes in Ireland.
S. M.
Cool Museum and somewhere that was on my bucket list. I’d like a little bit more interactive information on the flying boat and the history of transatlantic travel and the importance of Foynes. A short interactive travel experience would be cool.
S. B.
Great experience of all the trials to cross the ocean compared to today's planes. Easy parking very friendly staff and great collection of Maureen O'Hara life
C. C.
Lovely wee museum. Have been passing it on the road for years and never called in. 8eur entry but well worth it. Interesting history of the flying boat service and the replica boat plane was class!
t. m.
Open from June , till 5 , last booking 1 hour before.
G. T.
So glad we drove out of our way to see Foynes. Great history! We learned a lot. Don't leave without an Irish Coffee.
L. K.
Really enjoyed this experience especially life size model. Strange combination of exhibitions but all very interesting.
P. S.
Nice visit for kids. They loved the replica plane and the simulators. The holograms is nice too. Nice view from the top of the tower.
J. G.
Some good hands on exhibits, but also some hands off exhibits that you'll need to police your children away from as the switches and dials seem tempting. Great views from the control tower and interesting insight into this short era
R. G.
Second time visitor.
Walking around and inside the craft gives insight as to the passenger experience.
A pleasure to pay 8€

This is a wonderful museum with a great history that most people know nothing aboue. Its really well put together and and really easy to navigate. The people working here have a great knowledge and pride in what they do and it shows. The family ticket price of €30 is really good value. O Regans restaurant is the home of the Irish coffee so what better place to sample one on the way through the museum. The replicia plane is really well made and adds so much to the whole experience. The Maureen O Hara exhibition is really lovely and has some amazind pieces of history in it. I will definitely be back in the future and will be taking people for a great day out.
B. T.
Always enjoy visiting the museum
m. k.
Fabulous, loved this place .Maureen O Hara was a patron and the Museum on site has some of her personal items.
a. r.
lovely museum wow the plane was way ahead of its time would have loved a flight on it .takes about two hours to get around very comfortably. food in restaurant was lovely .staff were lovely .kids loved it too
S. O.
Very enjoyable. It's going to be even better when they complete the big extension that they are currently working on
S. M. G.
I had a great time at the museum. It was interesting, educational and great fun. There's a lot more to see and do than i expected, from the short film to the fligh simulation! The staff are also vey friendly and accommodating. I would highly recommend a visit, it's a hidden gem.
I. K.
Perfect place with interesting history, especially about flying boat. I recommend both for adults and for children.
b. m.
Bit disappointing to be honest. No film and no Irish coffees. We arrived at 4pm and were told to be out by 4.50. Could and should be a great attraction.
A. i. N.
This is a museum based around the Boeing 314 flying boat. A full fuselage is available to tour as well as exhibits of other memorabilia.
There's also a viewing platform which provides an excellent view of the port of Foynes.
I docked a start because I thought it a little overpriced.
D. M.
Fantastic little museum, lots of history of the area that I never knew. I'd recommend to anyone who loves aviation or local Irish history.
P. J. O.
Excellent visit, though in fairness it works best with a group of 10 to 14 people.
s.
Great little museum,friendly staff.Well worth a visit.Loads of history.
T. G.
Very good museum. The staff really helpful and pleasant.
A. G.
Lovely museum that my children also enjoyed
L. D. F.
An unexpected gem. Great fun to walk around inside the full-scale flying boat replica. Or walk around the original control tower.
L. B.
Did you know Pan Am used to fly passengers from NYC to Europe on two story flying boats that landed on rivers? The only flying boat in existence is here along with its radio equipment, log books, uniforms, the control tower and other fascinating relics. All of which you can go in, touch, etc. And a real flight simulator. Plus a really good cafe serving irish coffee.
L. B.
Just really interesting, and I reckon very important for town. Glad to support it and learned a great deal. Surprisingly Foynes itself is not booming.
J. D.
What a wonderful find. So interesting and the connection with the Maureen O'Hara was fascinating.
B. K.
Really enjoy this place with my husband and daughter caroline and grandchild Kayleigh love it
D. O.
Very impressed with all aspects of this museum.
It is divided into a number of sections, and each tells its own particular aspect of the flying boat era. However, you start with a film that fills you in, in significant detail, how the era came about and why it ended so quickly.
The next section of the museum let's you walk through a full-size mock-up of a Pan American Clipper.
The Hologram 'movie' experience showing the origin of the Irish Coffee I thought was particularly impressive.
Lastly, you can visit a section that is devoted to the late Maureen O'Hara. Her husband was apparently a pilot on one of the flying boats that used to land at Foynes. She, herself opened the museum and her family have donated a number of personal items to it.
The cafe makes a very pleasant way to wrap up the visit.
L. S. a. S. C. L.
Interesting place, lots of history and information. Nice walk around the town after, which could have lots of big boats on view.
L. M.
Factual, family friendly, wheelchair access and cafe with gift shop. Always a good thing to let the young know how things were first hand
B. S.
Lovely museum and lovely staff. All exhibits seem lovingly restored and looked after. Educational film at the start of the tour is really informative and interesting, as are all the rooms you can visit. There are parts geared towards younger visitors and our kids really enjoyed them. It does not seem advertised enough, and that's a real shame, because it feels like something a lot of people would enjoy. We would like to visit again when we're back in the area, maybe next time we'll visit on a nice, sunny day, so we experience the observation deck fully.
E. E.
An interesting history and great interactive exhibits. Entertained the 8 year old as much as the 38 year old. Worth a morning.
S. G.
For young and older this is a fantastic facility. The staff were very helpful and friendly and the exhibits were very informative as well as well laid out especially in the current Covid climate. Had a gorgeous lunch post walk around and again were met with helpful and friendly staff.
C. o. c.
Really enjoyed our trip here. The museum itself was really interesting and the staff were wonderful. Very polite, professional and good fun - can't say ebough nice things about them. We ate here too and the food was very good, including the Irish coffee! Looking forward to returning!
Ł. S.
Irish museums are often "so-so" in terms of experience. The Foynes Flying Boat & Maritime Museum is definitely an exception here. Very well presented in the style of the 1930-40s, with good deal of varied detail on history of flying boats and their connection to Foynes. Some interactive elements to keep kids interested too. The full-size replica hull and interior is also a nice touch, and gives you a sense of how people travelled back in those days, when air travel was still a novelty reserved for the wealthy.
N. W.
What a find! I can't believe I didn't know about the flying boats flying transatlantic. Really interesting place and with the added interest of the Maureen O'Hara connection. We had tour guide Martina and she was wonderful. Kids found it really interesting too. I felt it was a bit pricey at €12 for an adult and €5 for a child but it was so enjoyable, I was happy to pay.
A. C.
Amazing history from the past. Jennifer the hostess is outstanding.
C. H.
Great museum. Very interesting. Suitable for kids too.
S. D.
What a wonderful experience. To see where the flying planes all started and the history plus a replica of the Clipper flying plane only one in world
J. H.
Well worth a visit too see how flying has improved. Very educational to all age groups.
H. W.
Wonderful museum. Staff great. In the small café I had possibly the best apple pie in my 75 years, made on site by one of the cafe ladies. The highlight cake of my week in Ireland. Well worth a visit.
Highly recommended.
T. C.
I didn't have high hopes - I don't have any real interest in aviation, and Foynes is only a small village, but this is a gorgeous, hugely interactive and beautifully curated museum. The staff are exceptional, and we were kept entranced for three hours. Definitely recommend.
P. S.
Great place to stop for a snack, friendly staff.
A. G.
Informative and multi-sensory, this is mostly wheelchair accessible(just the top viewing platform and cockpit) museum is a little treasure trove. Diverse topics and sources on life in and about Foynes are represented. My 12 and 7 year olds were well entertained. Well worth 30 euro.
T. “. d.
Exhibits were interesting and Irish Coffee was great.
M. S.
Having reacently visited this museum I was very happy to have seen it as it has improved so much from the last time in it which was many years ago we spent a total of 2 hours or more there including eating in the on site cafe which was extremely good the Maureen Ohara tribute rooms are a must and it was so interesting to see the inside of a flying boat the people were polite and helpful and the amount of info was spot on congratulations on such a lovely museum I will certainly be telling people to call in
L. S.
Very enjoyable. The Maureen O'Hara exhibition will enhance the experience further.
S. B.
A great day at Foynes flying boat museum , feed there and all 😉
J. M.
Foynes Flying Boat & Maritime Museum excitingly captures the story of how Foynes became one of the great aviation hubs of the world from 1937-1945. Walk in the footsteps of JFK, Bob Hope, Eleanor Roosevelt and many other dignitaries, movie stars and refugees who landed at Foynes during World War II. Throughout the original terminal building this truly unique story is told by way of original film in a 1940’s style cinema, showcases covering the war years and numerous exhibits on the romantic flying boat era including the chance to board a life size replica of the Boeing 314 Flying Boat. Foynes and the flying boats will be forever connected with the invention of Irish coffee as they combined to give this uniquely Irish treat. Learn all about this historic event by watching a wonderful 3D holographic show re-enacting this famous night back in 1943. After, why not taste a delicious Irish coffee in its original home. Also explore our wide-ranging maritime collection housed in the reinstated control tower and enjoy the panoramic view of the River Shannon from the top of the tower. When Hollywood movie star Maureen O’Hara stepped off a flying boat in Foynes with her husband Captain Charles Blair in 1976, it would be the beginning of a special relationship. This new exhibition is dedicated to preserving the memory of Ireland’s most famous actress by showcasing her memorabilia including the honorary Oscar she received. There is also a cinema room screening a rolling film on her life encompassing her love of music, film and fashion.

Not for all people however they did a fantastic job making it for all ages. It wasn't my favorite stop but it was pretty neat learning about the flying boat history and getting the chance to see and be in a replica of one. The Museum can be very hands on at times but on the other hand has a lot of reading. I would suggest having a tour guide take you around. At the end of your tour be sure to get an Irish Coffee they make the best ones!
C. M.
Enjoyed a great experience here. The receptionist, Helen , was so helpful and kind, my father in law ,was inquiring about the old TB hospital. And Helen went out of her way to help him meet up with a friend after 70 years not meeting each other. Thanks Helen, he met up later in the day .. the flying boat was a great surprise.
C. C.
A very interesting place to go for an hour or two. I just kept missing the hologram for the Irish coffees - tried twice, it was just finished the first time and the second time I got the last minute. The Irish coffees were lovely though.
F. M.
Great! Kids 8 + 4 had a great time. Worth the stop.
s. w.
Didn't go into museum but had a coffee in the restaurant. Nice friendly staff. Great rocky road. Coffee was slightly bitter
g. o. s.
Lovely place for a visit and friendly staff
T. A.
The museum is a great drop Her. You can view the interior of a flying boat. I wish , as an air traveller, that I could make my journey in such comfort today. There is a simulator which allows the visitor to fly a sea plane.
This is where Irish coffee was invented. A holographic display tells the story.
Well worth a visit.
P. C.
A trip back to the golden age of aviation, 1930's and 1940's nostalgia, from Hollywood filmstars and pioneering aviators, to the wonderful recreation of a flying boat.step on board and see for yourself. Learn how the legendary Irish coffee came about, nostalgia oozes in this place. Well worth a visit. In the cafe, real homemade cakes, great coffee, tea, hot food, scrumptious!!! Top marks.
N. S.
Well worth a visit if you're interested in the history of Trans-Arlantic flight. Many good exhibits and for those into Maureen O'Hara there's a special treat.
B. M.
Amazing place. So interesting. Beautifully maintained. Great history of how the flying boats started. Loved being able to see one and go inside it. Also loved seeing Maureen O'Haras memorabilia. Great place
M. C.
A very interesting place to visit. Well worth the entrance fee.
M. W.
I really enjoyed this. Took my twin boys as thought it wud be a good for dem. Very informative and interesting. They hav a large collection of memorabilia such as uniforms and menus etc from actual flights. Was pleasantly surprised to find out that Maureen O'Hara was their patron as her husband was a pilot and there was an exhibit of her own things also. The scale replica of the airbus is great too. Well worth a visit.
O. M.
Great little museum on the early days of transatlantic air travel. Full scale reproduction of a flying boat. Nice touches like the origins of Irish Coffee. Interesting to the general visitor not just aviation buffs. Restaurant on street but part of complex.
W. W.
Small interesting museum about the trials encountered providing transatlantic air passenger services. Good location, ample parking even for a motorhome and a nice cafe with friendly helpful staff across the whole site. Well worth the detour to visit.
C. J.
If you are interested in the early history of flying and the planes they flew back then you can't miss this stop. They even had and area for newlyweds to stay on there flight. Fun time and expierence in Ireland.
j. K.
Excellent well worth the visit
D. S.
Excellent small museum that mainly explores Foynes role in early Transatlantic air travel. There is also a section on the port and conference on the Shannon. We all enjoyed our visit,.even if the Irish Coffe experience was not available, still it was the muddlenif the day! Foynes claims invention of the Irish Coffee in case you were wondering what the link is! Very enjoyable of hours happy to recommend.
M. F.
Could do with a bit more attractions even if they put in model airplanes or something
C. P.
Amazing place, wasn't sure when I heard the price of €11 per ticket but between Maureen O Hara's Oscar dress and life time achievement award the history of the flying boat, the creation of the first Irish coffee and the Maritime history it was well worth it. Also the views from the control tower was amazing.
g. b.
Very informative. Staff were very nice. Life size replica was excellent. Kids really enjoyed the flight simulators.
D. O.
Excellent planning from when u arrived to the car park the shuttle bus the air show itself was amazing it was our first time at the air show it won't be our last. Great credit to everyone involved well done Foynes best €10 I ever spent 😊✈✈

The Foynes Flying Boat museum is a rare maritime gem & you wonder why you did not come across it before .. Our 5 children loved the experience, especially the realistic simulator .. And for us to enter and walk through the replica Clipper Plane was a real treat indeed .. The Maureen O'Hara collection was a huge added bonus ' Well done to all involved - exceptionally well maintained throughout .....
M. N. A. G.
Fun place. Worth going to.
(One of) The other place(s) that claims to be the origin of Irish Coffee in San Francisco has much better Irish Coffee. But no seaplane. 😅

Well worth a visit. Very interesting hearing about the first transatlantic flights through ireland . The Maureen O Hara exibition was also well worth a look, as the Quiet Man is one of my old time favourite movies .
B. K.
Wonderful museum & staff. Excellent exhibits, food & delicious Irish Coffee. Well worth a visit. One of the best attractions I've ever visited.
P. C.
A fine display of aviation history. Staff friendly, plenty to see and do on a compact site. Well worth going up the tower, but hang on to your hat on windy days.
V. F.
Interesting story about the museum and the developments over the years. Our travelling friends had an Irish coffee and they enjoyed it
l.
If you are aviation enthusiast this you can not miss
S. W.
An authentic and truly interesting museum of the flying boats from 1937 onwards. A 17 minute interesting and informative film to start about the deep water port of Foynes. If Brexit goes through then this part of Ireland could truly provide work for many as a cargo port!!!! A tribute to Maureen O 'Hara with displays of her clothes and her Oscar and other objects belonging to her husband who was a pilot at Foynes. She opened and sponsored the museum, dying in 2015 . I left feeling I had really been back to the 1940 's. O'Regans restaurant provided adequate food and also catered for gluten free customers. A very knowledgeable and helpful assistant called Marion ensured we saw and enjoyed out afternoon. Unfortunately on the flight simulator I crashed the plane so will have to go back to master the challenge!!!!! Well worth the visit. Thank you
S. F.
This is a small well laid out museum celebrating Foynes short life as one of Europes transatlantic terminals. In the days when Flying boats provided the service. The restaurant is not bad either.
S. S.
I cannot believe I've never heard of this place before our bus tour took us here. You have to visit if you have any interest in aviation. A visit takes about an hour, which you can finish with Irish Coffee right where it was created!
A. C.
Really Interesting intetactive museum based on the incredible period of flying boats in the 1930s and 40s and how Foynes played a critical connection between Europe and US. The Maureen O' Hara exhibition is small but nice. It's all based in the original terminal building including the view of Foynes port from the control tower.
J. C.
A hidden gem, well worth a look
D. Y. l. T.
You dont have to be a plane enthusiast to enjoy this.
The history of the Flying boats is brought to life and of course you cant forget it's the birth place of the Irish Coffeee.
.
Highly recommend
L. H.
Really interesting initial film and self guided tour about how air travel could have evolved if it wasn't for the war and the subsequent leap forward in technology. The replica flying boat shows how luxurious travel was back then with separate lounge, dining and sleeping areas!
P. M.
Wonderful well laid out museum and exhibition. The American clipper reconstruction is very good. Cafe does very good home made soup and excellent range of sandwiches.

It's a museum, some interaction, very interesting for those interested in this subject. Good for secondary school kids but not younger in my opinion. We went when we saw the airshow which we though was brilliant.

Great museum! it s part of aviation history! So don't miss it if you' re near Foynes! Also this is the exact place where the IRISH COFFE was invented (the barman made it for the passanger from an transatlantic flight, which had to come back for landing due to bad weather)! And go up to visit the tower, from were you can see the runway which is in fact the shannon river! :) I simply love it!
