Reviews of Magdalene Tower
Beautiful bell tower from the medieval Dominican Priory Church of Saint Mary Magdalene, a poignant reminder of the havoc and destruction that Oliver Cromwell yielded over this walled town, it's churches, convents and monasteries and those who were massacred as an example to all.
The tower itself is of 14th-century construction. An amazing bit of history. As stated by others you can get close to the tower but not all the way up to it. Definitely worth a visit and wouldn't take more than 10 minutes to view. Lovely friendly cat wandering the grounds of the tower. I really would recommend a quick visit if you are in the area
Super little spot to visit! Even has a feline custodian! :D Only negative is not having access to walk inside the gate. 5*stars if we could get in there.
Beautiful tower that is situated slightly out of the city centre and is easy to find from google maps. The direct access to the tower was restricted when I visited
Worth a look. Could do with more informative signage about where to learn more.
Great historical site not open at the moment due to covid
Beautiful tower. Bonus feature: friendly ginger cat!
Most likely to take in this attraction as part of the Drogheda town trail. You cannot gain access to the interior of the tower. Maximum time spent there is around 10 minutes to take a photo or two. It's in the middle of a residential area and is not a visitor centre but there is some information about the monument nearby.
Very beautiful and interesting but we would have loved entering in the gate which was closed
Magdalene Tower Drogheda Co. Louth. Built in 1224. Great historic building 👍only flaw is that the gate is always locked so you can't gain access to the yard. Also there's a very friendly orange cat 🐈 😃.
Very neat tower. Worth a quick look.
Looks great in daylight but even better by night
You can't get up close since there is a fence, but this tower is amazing to see. Definitely worth the walk to see a bit of history.
The Gates were locked, monument looks good
Some great detail in the Tower and a sense of calm while I was stopped at the Tower, go check it out
Great piece of history within walking distance of the town. Check it out if your about.
Beautiful tower
Nice to see, fairly well kept. You can't get too close to it though.
No access, we have to look and take photos from the gates. Pity !
Just watch out for the nun that haunt's it
:)
It's good, we took a picture infront of it.
Old tower, a tourist site
Very beautiful and full of lively memories.
Nice to go and see and walk up to it great to see it being looked after
Nice and easy to find
One if the original gates of the town of Drogheda
Old gate of Drogheda which you can view front a Magdalena street
Lovely 14th century belfry tower
Great historical building .
Historical site. Medieval monastery
Great part of Droghedas history
👍
Historic tower along Drogheda
I went there. Big
Very pleasant experience
Great Pokemon stop
Interesting to see
It was amazing
Perfect
Good history
Small historical remnant of the ancient fortifications, slightly modernized with windows and other small interventions, the most beautiful thing is the big orange cat that stands guard
Something you don't expect. Beautiful because it is taken out of context and out of time.
The tower's guardian is a cute tiger kitten.
Ancient building
Wonderful historical monument from 1224.
Unfortunately there is a gate in front of Magdalen Tower
I like it very much.
