Reviews of National Transport Museum
Very informative, ran by lovely volunteers. Worth a visit if you like transport history.
This place is well hidden away up in Howth.
There are some amazing vintage vehicles on show. Many are in great condition, with several that are not. Pretty sure that there is no funding for this place and it does need a fair but.
It's such a shame that the museum is not bigger. Lots of the vehicles here are squashed together. There is barely room to walk between them. The staff were good. There is plenty of parking right outside. The museum is very close to the village.
My wee boy loved the place.I'm sure that we will be paying another visit again.
A great museum with great transport memories from Howth and Dublin. Small and cozy.
A hidden gem for REAL enthusiasts. I have given it five stars because I feel the OPW or some government institution need to give this place more funding. The volunteers are clearly very dedicated. I will definitely be coming here again
Nice place, great spot Howth off main footpaths. Entrancy for adult was around 4-5 euros.I would call it an angar with autos
Adults 4 euro, kids 2.5 - often kids go without a fee. I wish to climb every machine there (which is allowed only for few). Been there several times with whole family - great time.
A great collection of history on wheel's well worth a visit it's a shame it receives no state funding.
It was closed so I just rambled round and captured what ever I saw, enjoy
Great wee museum for what it is. Vehicles are crammed tight together as space is limited in shed. But altogether well worth the €4 fee:-)
Amazeing place the volunteers do amazeing work and being able to see everything great day out
Nice transport museum in which you could spend 30-60 minutes.
Fantastic experience! Thank you so much to all the volunteers who work here!
Really good collection of fire trucks, buses and assorted vehicles. The display area is quite small and can be a bit of a squeeze to get between vehicles. As the museum is run by volunteers, the opening times are limited and part of the second hall is closed off to the public as the vehicles are not yet restored to a point where the public can view/touch them. Really important to note that this museum has paid entry and they only accept cash, payment by card is not an option.
Fantastic and very interesting tour given by the gentleman at the museum, showing me and my brother around the amazing collection! I am very happy I came by and of all the museums in Ireland this is the one I loved the most. A must for vehicle enthusiasts!
Very impressive collection, of both civilian and military/state vehicles. Space is tight though, so it's hard to see most vehicles other than from a specific angle, as you can't get in and around most of them. The space issue would be a hindrance to those with wheelchair and or buggy/pram concerns. Staff are very friendly, if a little standoff-ish. Parking is ample, and the co-location with Howth Castle and Deer Park make it easily part of a full (family) day out. Well served by bus and train (DART) services. Plenty of restaurants and pubs close by too. Shame it's only open Weekends (2pm to 5pm) and Bank Holidays.
A hidden gem. Staff are great, dropped in on a day it wasn't open but there was a staff member painting. When my little girl started to cry because it was closed the chap offered to let us go in anyway, sums it up really!
Fantastic display of old vehicles. The museum is run voluntarily so could really benefit from further funding or sponsorship to improve the facilities to show off the collection.
Very cool! Fair play to the volunteers keeping it going. Could obviously do with some more funding.
Delightful informal collection of all sorts of vehicles. Tell your kids (grandkids) about the olden days! Be careful...only open14.00 to 17.00 weekends and hols
I like this museum, have been here few times, as everytime my friends are coming I bring them to show it. Sadly Its working only on the weekends, but probably there is a reason for that
A lovely quaint museum, a disgrace it's not state funded, as it's clearly doing the very best it can in a small space
Interting small and a bit pricy for what it is. Website says 3€ but they charged me 4€ at the entrance
Hidden gem. Always worth a trip. A lot to see in a very small space.
Great day out and really interesting. Kids loved it and it was a great journey down memory lane 😊
Good service and the burger is better then KFC. Before I eat KFC now I prefer Burger King is the best...
Like the way it wasn't that organised and the way it wasn't very "safe". Great to see all these vehicles.
wasn't inside was working on a movie been shot nearby but visited it some years, we'll worth a visit
It's really nice here, but it will be better if there will be more space
absolutely fantastic pity the state dont fund it so interesting gives a feeling of how things once were
Not huge, but full of history. Hard to find but worth a short trip.
Sadly lacking government funding, really enjoyed visit
It's very beautiful and there's a beach quite close to it
Now very big but worth a visit.
Great display of old vehicles in Howth
Nice place to visit, Howth town and all the amenities around.
Great for a walkaround, some lovely vintage stuff
Some parts of exhibition are obstructed by other parts
Great selection of vehicles and friendly staff!
Great place very interesting collection
Place to visit ,very interesting
Brings back good memories
Great place go and see
Well worth a visit
Awesome
Many things to see
Very interesting
The walk from downtown Howth to this place is very quiet. You will pass through a short stone road and finally come to this very humane museum. The person who sells tickets is the person who maintains the car. If you see someone who wants to buy a ticket, go to the ticket booth. Tickets are sold. After getting the tickets, you can put them into the iron bucket and visit freely. It is a completely open space. The display inside is very simple. There are many antique vehicles placed directly in the garage, allowing you to get up close and touch them. You can get on and sit on every bus. Every bus is open and everyone can get on and sit on it.
There is also a group of auto repair masters teaching the younger generation to repair cars outdoors. You can see the traditional master-apprentice atmosphere here. You can also see the process of repairing antique cars and the internal structure of antique cars on site. This is really special. The museum is worth taking the time to go to if you are traveling on your own.
Historic national museum, you can find historic means of transport of great value restored with obsessive precision, very interesting indeed
Worth seeing
very good quality transport with comfort and speed
