Reviews of Ye Olde Hurdy Gurdy Museum Of Vintage Radio
Lovely piece of history showcasing all the old vintage radios and communication equipment from the early 1900s onwards. Thanks to pat and the team for an enjoyable tour. They are a wealth of information. Museum located on a spectacular hill with views of howth village and north Dublin city
If you want to learn about the radio evolution this is the best place to go. Great collection of radios. Lovely views! If you like my pictures please check out my Instagram @ireland_in_hdr
Plenty to see. Classic radios!! Experience the evolution radio. Amazing!!
The museum wasn't open when I visited but the view! Oh the view! Stunning 👍
Little museum in the Martello Tower above Balscadden beach. Great views outside. Inside is a treasure trove of radios through the years.
Really interesting place amazing history, brilliant collection of radios, staff were lovely
A great, eccentric, little museum. Lots of wonderful artifacts and curiosities. Inside can be a little cramped depending on how many people are inside but it's well worth a visit. The staff there are very friendly and lovely to chat with. There's also a nice view of Howth Pier outside.
Be aware the museum is up on a hill which some may find steep and to watch your head entering!
Amazing museum with awesome guides!
This place is awesome. If you have an interest in radios or history of communication, this place will be right up your alley. Ask for a guided tour from one of the knowledgeable gentlemen running the place, which includes some fun tidbits and demonstrations on vintage radios, record players and more. 100% worth the 5€ admission (although this is more of an adult attraction - the kids will probably get a little bored)!
Brilliant visit to this amazing museum with a stunning collection of radios and similar equipment. The history of radio communication was explained to us by the owners and it is throughly fascinating. The view from the Mortello tower is also a must see.
Best museum experience so far. Your guide Michal is super duper knowlegable of all the items in the museum. He did excellent tour, showed all the rarities.Told that Titanic didnt sink. Owner is 93 yo irish man. Its one man museum. Great experience
More so someone's collection of all things communications-related than a museum, but I loved everything about it. Michael was an amazing guide who had deep knowledge on every little thing in the collection. I also had no idea that Jameson whiskey and Marconi were connected. If you're in the Howth area, definitely stop by, it's worth the 5 euro admission!
Almost certain to be the most eccentric delight of any visit to greater Dublin, this museum -- one man's obsession with wireless (and telegraph wire) communication since Marconi -- is well worth a stop if you've taken the train to Howth to walk the cliffs and sample the delicious seafood. You're guaranteed a personal tour of the antique radios, TVs, testing and transmitting gear, neon signs and the like, a tour given by the collector himself or his son. Don't miss it!
You could spend an entire day in one of the smallest museums in Dublin and the Curator Pat Herbert is only too happy to give you the guided tour. He will take you back to the 1900s and inform you of the interesting stories behind each antique which has probably come from many continents away. He is an avid collector and this is his personal collection which he speaks passionately of each item he has acquired and now takes its rightful place in Martello Tower overlooking the beautiful Howth Bay.
Great museum!
Small but the guide gives you a lot more detail about the exhibits
Very interesting and the guide was really friendly and passionate about the collection
Super fun, even if you're not a radio nerd. Michael and Pat have a great collection, and a ton of knowledge they're eager to share.
Doesn't look great from outside but inside is full of fantastic stuff and guided tour is really amazing! I recommend visiting it when you are on Howth.
Quaint little radio 📻 museum in an unexpected place: an old stone turret build to defend against Napoleon on top of a hill in Howth. There’s a little magic here.
Great views over howth harbour
Tiny museum jam-packed with radio & communications history. The guided tour was lovely.
A really great visit well worth it , great history comes to life with the history told by curator Pat
Lovely guy to show you through the history of radio, who knew 8t was thanks to Jameston wiskey we have to thank for our modern radio we have today
Brilliant. A great tour, and lots of history. Well worth a visit!
Great Tour and collection, really surprising, plus you can see the insides of a Martello Tower
Had a wonderful trip here last Summer and met an enthusiastic and knowledgeable curator.
Because it houses wonderful heritage items from radio and history, and a working amateur radio station too!
A really great visit well worth it , great history comes to life with the history told by curator Pat
Heritage feel.
A hidden gem and Aladdin's Cave. Full of memorabilia from the history of telecommunications.
Little hidden treasure and a beautiful view of the sea.
Amazing place. Michael is a great guide.
Great collection and history. Recommended.
Beautiful view of the harbour from there!
Great. Very interesting and informative
Tiny but brilliant museum. Loved the stories attached to the museum exhibits, told with great panache by the curator.
Amazing museum
Fantastic. Loved it
Great Views from the hill
Wonderful visit.
Great place!
Fantastic experience
The Martello Tower, which houses the Radio Museum, is in a very convenient location with a wonderful view of Howth Harbour. It is one of a series of towers built around the coast of Ireland in the 19th century. There is an excellent clearing in front of the museum. The museum was unfortunately closed.
The museum itself did not include an ordinary tower; according to legend, there are many of these on the island of Ireland; it looks like an observation tower. It offers a beautiful view of the harbor.
(Translated) Unfortunately it was closed, but the tower itself is interesting. And kinds of beautiful

К сожалению было закрыто, но сама башня интересная. И виды красивые
Good views of Howth in a rarely visited area.
