Reviews of Clare Abbey
Nice historic landmark in the middle of the field 😊 Majestic. You'll find new tombs inside, which is pretty interesting and intrigue. Worth see it.
Historic , mystical place . And walking around the courtyard I could imagine the friary monks praying and walking along the courtyard . Beautiful views as you look out the arch windows. You can see the beautiful shades and shadows shining through as you walk around the Abbey. It makes you feel like you're at peace with yourself
Creepy graveyard. A bit difficult to find the path when walking, but not too far to get to.
Beautiful Abbey ruin. Parking is limited if other people are here but it is an absolutely gorgeous ruin.
Nice 15th century ruins, run by OPW Heritage. Free access.
Historical place worth seeing
Nice old abbey to visit, not very large
Not exactly as easy to find as it is to spot from the motorway! Once there, however, you are rewarded with a very unexpected old ruin. The abbey, in ruins for centuries, has been used for local burials (in the ground within the ancient walls) since at least the mid-1800s. A little interpretive signage in addition to the rules signboard would come in handy, but it is understandable why they wouldn’t want a flood of tourists back here. Not a whole lot to see, so it was a quick stop, but a unique one.
Great Abby to have a wedding
Taken with honor 10 lite
Not the biggest or the most spectacular abbey, but does have some uniqueness with its leaning towers and ruggedness. If you have been to any bigger ones, you may be disappointed, but may still be an interesting visit if you are in the area.
An old Augustinian foundation, nice for a wander
Small abbey in ruins, nice to see
Established in 1189 by the Augustinians but with many of the windows and tower from 15th century. Simple unadorned
Stopped here on our way to Cliffs of Moher from Shannon. Great stop to look around for 15-30 minutes!
Neat little abbey to check out if you are driving past. It is free, and free stuff is rare in Ireland.
Nice if you have a car or a bike: It' a long walk from the city center
Fantastic spot to just look at irish history
Look great. So peacefull place to visit
Beautiful place.
Lovely place, piece of history!
Lovely place to walk
wonderful place
Great place
It's a shame it's so off the track and really confined
Interesting ruin of an early Augustinian friary.
Very beautiful
Fantastic
Nice Abbey.
Nice place if you're on the way. It's probably not worth the special trip. Watching for about 10-15 minutes.
Spotted on the way to our accommodation. You feel like you've been transported to another time when you enter the area. Inside a green lawn with graves. Also one from 2017. But also very old ones with a date of 1888 and younger. It's amazing what could have been achieved in the past without construction crews and machines.
(Translated) Following the sign on Clareabbey roundabout, in the southern part of the city of Ennis, we will reach an interesting building related to Irish monasticism. It is CLARE ABBEY, a monastery founded by the Augustinians around 1189. Picturesquely situated on the west bank of the Fergus River, it has survived to this day in the form of a well-preserved ruin. You can still admire architectural details here and we can easily recognize the original functional assumptions of this complex. At one time it was the most important and largest place associated with the presence of the Augustinian Order in County Clare. Today, this place is not visited very often, although in my opinion it is worth even a short visit, especially during the spring utensils on the Fergus River, when the monastery seems to be surrounded by water from everywhere. This additionally emphasizes its landscape values and the whole area. When the situation related to the virus that has recently dominated our lives calms down, a short trip to Clare Abbey can be a safe and interesting way to return to cruise normalcy.

Beautiful and abandoned. It can be visited in 20 minutes.
Place to visit the ruins of an old convent and where the remains of my father-in-law rest
Very old monastery ruins. There is a cemetery inside.
Old burial site
Must see. Twigs 20min
Interesting remains of an important monastery.
A place that reflects the close bond between individuals.
