Reviews of The Rusty Oven - Pizzeria

Delicious pizza with original and curious topping creations. Pizzas are a little smaller than in other places and the wine is pricey when you check the cost of buying elsewhere but I wouldn't let this stop me returning. Prompt service and wonderful atmosphere. Exciting menu with something for everyone. A must in Dunfanaghy dining experience.

While completing the Wild Atlantic Way we stopped in Dunfanaghy for dinner.
A friend had recommended The Rusty Oven and the pizza certainly didn’t disappoint.
Great pizza and garlic bread.
Remember to bring cash as they don’t accept card payments.
D. G.
Fab little pizza restaurant. All pizzas have sour dough bases. You order drinks from the pub behind the restaurant.

Best pizza I’ve had in Ireland and on par with the best pizzerias in Italy. Clearly they don’t skimp on the quality of ingredients and the topping combinations are tasty and imaginative. The vibe and decor reminds me my days in the topics at beachside bars. An unexpected surprise in the west of Ireland.

Fabulous pizza, maybe the best this side of Italy. Very quirky place for dinner, with lots of outdoor seating and some little indoor nooks. They don't serve alcohol, but that can be bought in the pub on the same premises. Great and interesting topping choices for the pizzas and you can see them made as you wait. They don't even mind if you bring your four-legged friends to sit with you outdoors.

Fantastic meal, friendly service , lovely atmosphere.
Ordered pizzas, garlic bread, olive tea cup and finished with the brownie.
Nothing to fault, we will definitely be back again.

What a fantastic place, firstly and most importantly to us and many others, THE RUSTY OVEN WELCOMES DOGS!!
I had all but given up on any cafe, bar, restaurant, shop etc etc in any town around the area welcoming dogs, the only other place is the Shamrock bar in Falcarragh. Then i found out the Rusty Oven is happy to welcome dogs. Well done for recognising what your customers want. Even those without dogs were happy to come across and pet my doggy, making their night more enjoyable.
Secondly what a great setting, I don't know how they do it but even though they created this from the back of a bar off a car park, it has a great atmosphere, lights, music etc and the pepperoni pizza I had there was absolutely delicious.
I will definitely be visiting again, well done!! I

I accept that we must do outdoor dining, but the place was freezing, the staff appear very rude, customer service in fact is very poor, some training would not go amiss. There should be co operation between bar staff and restaurant staff. The toilets are appalling, no way friendly towards people with limited mobility, no excuse to have 2 out of 3 ladies toilets out of order, .....The food is OK. Presentation does leave room for improvement. As a catering teacher, I would expect better from my students...and would not accept charred black smoke on a plate. Latte's are not supposed to be served cold. This place has the potential to be great, but needs to start improving now, including having dinning tables 1m apart....clean sanitary facilities,

Love the pizza!! Lovely place and super hard working staff. So busy these days it's not easy to get in, but well worth the wait!
D. S.
Delicious pizza's,you have to try the garlic bread too,it's unique.Be warned,it gets busy quickly so try be there when they open first or you'll be waiting to be seated. Excellent service once you're seated, very little waiting between order and service to the table. Can't wait to go back again.

Best stone fired pizza I've had. And as a manager in a pizzeria, it speaks volumes. Well done to them. Wonderful place and interesting story.
L. M.
Delicious pizza, the best around, and excellent customer service with lovely staff
P. C.
Seemingly tasty pizza but I really couldn’t recommend the Pear and Walnut or the Desert pizza. It gets busy, so be prepared to wait a long time between courses and to get your cheque! Friendly and helpful staff, can contact them on Facebook to make a reservation. Cash only.
M. c.
One of the best pizzas I've ever had, Garlic bread is perfect. Took a while (60mins) but Saturday night and well worth it.

Fab spot. Lovely rustic atmosphere and very welcoming. It's very busy so book if you can!!!
Staff went above and beyond to accommodate a food intolerance. We came back 2 nights in a row and it made our sons holiday having his first meal out in a year that didn't make him ill! Cannot thank the staff enough
D. G.
Absolutely delightful in every sense! Great food, great decor, great music, great service... All combines to create a really wonderful experience!
B. P.
A hidden gem. Great decor, fab tunes, friendly chilled staff and lovely grub. If Carlsberg did Pizza places........
S. M.
Great pizza as always. Staff excellent. Can't fault.
P. W.
Awesome pizza. Cash only though remember to bring your cash before the local shop closes.

Visited 2 years ago- fantastic pizza in lovely setting..can't wait to visit again
D. M.
Awesome pizza, great place to eat. Defiantly worth a try.
T. M.
Very nice pizza, cool location and layout but the cash only thing is very irritating. They do it in the states a lot but that is to avoid paying taxes so not sure why they do it here. It is annoying
G. G.
Excellent pizzas and excellent service from very professional staff
S. H.
Worth the wait in the queue! Great choice of pizzas and brilliant atmosphere.
s. w.
Tried to book this 2 weeks before we were meant to arrive but was notified bookings were only via Facebook messenger which was annoying as I don’t have it.
Other than that we managed to get a seat in the bar at the front & the food was absolutely amazing, best pizza in Ireland. Must visit but definitely try & book the restaurant.
k. m. i.
Fantastic atmosphere, pizza, starters, wine and staff and very busy.
R. S.
Amazing pizza, with new and creative choices and different specials with unique combinations of toppings. They also let you mix and match any toppings you want from them. The pizzas are made and cooked very fast, so the service is also quite good. The choice on the menu is great and they even do a dessert pizza. Can bring drinks in from elsewhere or from the bar next to it. Only downside is that it's cash only, so get to an ATM before coming.
T. B.
Food was brill but get rid of slated chairs and tables in alleyway. Ruins good food
W. P.
Excellent freshly made pizzas. Very busy place with indoor and outdoor seating. Getting a table is the challenge, not getting a good pizza. We ordered various pizzas in a group of eight and they were all very tasty.
E. C.
A brilliant experience we loved the decor the fairy lights the pizza and oh the salad was lovely with pear and brie. Brownie for dessert was to die for. Would highly recommend. Must do when passing dunfanaghy. Lovely pint of guiness too and dare i say it one of the best pizzas i have had! Thanks Rusty!
J. P.
Excellent vibe, friendly staff and the best pizza.
K. A.
Fabulous pizza, very careful restrictions. Dog friendly
J. L.
Delicious pizza in a funky laid back atmosphere. Nice variety of sourdough pizza with good quality toppings. Great to watch the pizzas bring made in front of you as the prep area is central to the dining area. Drinks can be bought "out front" in Patsy Dan's bar. Pizza can be taken away or eaten within the Rusty Oven. Tables and chairs are definitely "shabby chic" and you may find your table is an old door complete with hardware. This all adds to the experience. The restaurant can get very busy so I'd advise getting there early.

Found this place on the back of a mention in an article about Donegal in the Guardian. We never would have otherwise.
It's tucked away behind a pub, near the sea front, in a very trendy, laid back little space. The staff are warm and friendly, and the pizzas are among the best I've eaten. Light, sourdough crust with a choice of toppings, both traditional and novel. Highly recommended.
L. H.
Superb pizza and very friendly staff.
K. M.
The most amazing pizza and great set up. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area. We LOVE it!
S. F.
As always, great food, lovely vibe, excellent music and very good service. Our family's favourite pizza place. Well done to all the staff. Cannot recommend it highly enough.
C. K.
Super nice food staff and location 8.30 is the busiest time cause you can be waiting an hour for food but food is really tasty but bring a jumper cause it's outside well recommend
C. S.
Gorgeous pizza and great atmosphere. Largely outdoor seating but you're able to have your pizza in the connected pub. Would definitely love to go again!
F. G.
Fantastic atmosphere, excellent wood fire cooked pizza, real unique eating areas which are so rustic and traditional.
T. K.
Not only the best pizza in Dunfanaghy, it's the best in Donegal. Hell I'd go so far as to say it's the best in Ireland. ❤❤
G. M.
Amazing pizzas, great friendly staff, fantastic laid back atmosphere can't fault in any way
S. T.
Truly amazing pizza, great atmosphere, no complaints at all... the ingredients were fresh and we were well placed to watch the pizzas begging tossed around so were eagerly anticipated eating, there was a bit of a wait but given the popularity of the place this was hardly surprising- if you're a large group/ dinner wasn't too sit outside, book ahead- I can't imagine anyone being disappointed by the food and have recommended it to everyone in my extended family.
C. B.
Inside and outside covered dining space with an eclectic design. Informal setting serving a wide range of delicious homemade pizzas from a traditional oven. Serves wine but you can order beers/spirits from Patsys bar through the courtyard.
S. M.
Pizzas are lovely! Would recommend trying to get seat inside if it is raining, over charged for coffee and the coffee wasn't that nice to be honest, no flavours available.
K. M.
Thy oven plural were not of the "rusty" which left me in a depression after one was not able too lick the rust of the impecibaly swag oven plural.
I. A.
Been to this place a few times, this place is from a different planet, it's so relaxed place to be.
Staff are friendly an if your into pizzas this is the place to visit..
Don't forget to have a chocolate brownie an ice cream for desert.
M. B.
You couldn't ask for a better pizza and friendlier staff! The decor really adds to the atmosphere too! Best food in Portnablagh!
E. H.
Went with the family (12 in all) - place very busy so a bit of a wait for our pizza but kept entertained and fed with delicious olives and the best garlic bread in the world🌍 - served with a cup of melted garlic butter for dipping !!!!
K. E.
Sour dough pizza perfection.
M. S.
Really good garlic bread is to die for
J.
Love it, I'm a born sceptic, but when it comes to watching the younger generation enjoy what they do,making pizzas and providing a fantastic service, this is the in place in dunfanaghy, family friendly, convenient to all,the smiles are free, the staff are top class, one for the bucket list .. I eat here regularly and that's why .a must.
C. G.
Best pizza in a long time, very friendly staff, great music and atmosphere. A must to visit while being in beautiful Donegal county.
P. F.
Pizza to die for. Great spot although very busy we got a seat and ordered at counter and got served within 15 mins.
A. P.
Margarita pizza had a single leaf of basil, and a friend got skimped 10€. Pizza was good however and music was great.
C. M.
Totally worth the wait. Arrived when it was pouring down with rain and it was still rammed. Best pizza in northern Ireland.....maybe even Ireland!

(Translated) Delicious food, very affordable for Ireland's prices! 10-12 € per pizza, rustic location, friendly people we always on the island. With a little more rush understandably longer waiting times, but not over 40 minutes. Highly recommended

Sehr empfehlenswert
