Service so friendly, even knowing we are tourists only, kept coming to us asking if we are ok. Very busy place. For dinner we had to wait for table about half an hour, but the wait was so worth it.
B. H.Wow. Food was amazing. And the portions were huge. Frank's Hot wings starter had at least a dozen wings. Then the T Bone.... Unreal. Staff were so helpful and friendly. Definitely worth a visit when in this part of the world... But book ahead as it is very popular.

Y.This was a nice find during our visit of Achill Island. We were hungry and cold from the rain and decided try this pub on the side of the road. This ended up being a completely renovated yet historically beautiful restaurant/bar with a great atmosphere. Authentic Irish dishes and fresh beer on tap. We were all very happy with our delicious meals. I had the Bangers and Mash and the soup of the day that I posted on the review. The service and management were also very welcoming and impeccable. I highly recommend stopping in!
J. D.One of the best spots for food on the island, without doubt. Currently appear to be doing a 'two sitting' situation for evening dining, which perhaps is a bit tricky given the Covid restrictions etc. If you're on the second sitting, the 8pm one, you're waiting outside on the street - with a load of other diners - while they get the place ready upstairs. Personally I'd much preferred to have dined downstairs in the bar / lounge area. However, the food is excellent, the staff are all brilliant, and the service is prompt, professional and thorough. I'd highly recommend The Amethyst. Like so many restaurants, they're trying to do their best within the restrictions imposed by the government. Good luck to them!
M. H.Given the ongoing restrictions around dining indoors, the amethyst have it down to a tee! They have a very well organised system in place and although it must be very stressful at times for the staff manning the door, they managed it very well indeed.
As always the place itself is spotless and has a very pleasant atmosphere. Needless to say the food too, as always, was amazing. I found myself ogling the shark mascarading as a fresh cod on a fellow diner's plate😂
The staff are impeccable in their dealing with us all, friendly, and nothing is too much to ask. Looking forward to our next visit!

L. C.Came in here for lunch on Saturday. It was pretty busy but we got a seat straight away with a good view of the TV to watch the rugby match. The chowder was a good size, delicious and very good value. Service was friendly and quick even though it was busy! We will definitely be back next time we’re in Achill☺️

Food was ok. I had the roast of the day and Ciara had the carbonara. Very few veg with the roast but otherwise ok.
Wine selection is below average.
The thing that struck us the most was lack of adherence to COVID-19 regs.
1. No vax certs asked for (dining indoors)
2. Food server wore face shield (against CMO advice)
3. Bar staff had masks around their chins while prepping drinks and emptying dishwasher
4. Menus in a stack and passed out to customers and then placed back in stack, no sanitisation between use.

The staff are some of the loveliest you’ll meet and on the ball with everything. The food is also excellent quality and delicious: when we come back to Achill we will be headed straight to The Amethyst for a feed and some drinks. Loved it!

The pub itself is spacious and comfortable and all precautions have been taken to protect staff and customers from Covid 19. The staff are very friendly and efficient. The food is absolutely first class! Everything that I ate from the menu was perfectly prepared and presented. Children are welcome and well catered for. I cannot recommend the Amethyst highly enough. Do not miss it if you visit Achill!

S. E.Ate here tonight with my family. Food was fabulous. Restaurant was spotlessly clean, toilets were immaculate. Staff were professional, friendly and very efficient. As we were leaving the restaurant I brought my son to the bathroom. Instead of waiting for me outside the ladies he went outside the restaurant! A staff member saw him on his own and stayed with him while another staff came looking for me, which was so good of them. I was so impressed by the restaurant and would definitely recommend.
H. K.Excellent food and they even have a great vegan menu! We ordered the veggie burger, cod, steak, duck and special seafood pasta and all were fantastic. Our waitress Eva was absolutely brilliant and helpful and even gave us a little extra dessert which was very appreciated!
The Covid-cleaning was extremely good (we could see what cleaning they would do when other diners left). We just loved the experience and food and would definitely be back.
One small drawback would be the lack of wine availability (not sure if they were sold out) but as I am not one of the wine drinkers, I didn't take a star off for this!

K. m.Lots of parking around the back. Food was decent. Wife had a veggie soup. Soup rated very good. Bread that came with it was, in her words, "fantastic". My meal was ok, good but nothing amazing. I've had better mash (a bit bland) and the ham was fatty. Turkey and stuffing were good. The size of the sides portion was decent. They didn't skimp on any meals I witnessed being served Kids chicken sandwich rated very good. Twix cheesecake was so so. Toffee pudding was good. Service was quick, friendly and efficient. I felt it was very good value for the money. Family friendly and I saw they had high chairs available for small ones. Very accessible for folks who need that option. Recommended.

s. m.Definitely giving this a 5 star it's been 3 years since I was in Achill we see the AMETHYST Bar and decided to call in and was pleasently surprised the minute we walked in the cleaniless which is a must for me the decor the staff were absolutely brilliant also the management they were very busy and we got our table straight away. The menu was lovely and food was beautiful. Now I know about this place will be definitely calling more often.

But don't be worried, the rest of the menu is just as good. So glad we stopped here. Will never be in the area and not visit this place.
