Lovely old style Irish pub that doubles up as a grocery store. Lots of great photos and pics of yesteryear dotted on the walls of the bar, sat up at the bar which was surprisingly quiet for a midday saturday afternoon, only two other customers. Ordered a Smithwicks, served nice and cold by the friendly bar lady.
The type of bar you can spend some time wandering around admiring all the old artifacts on display, and taking in the special homely atmosphere that only an old Irish bar like this can give off.
Would love to visit when they have a bigger crowd in, perhaps nearer the evening, alas next time.

Enjoyed a great Saturday night traditional music session playing with friends old and new. A lovely old school general store/public house of the kind that was once commonplace throughout Ireland but which is rarely encountered today. Lovely decor and atmosphere together with first class service from the bar staff. What more could one ask for?

If you go to oldcastle you have to go to this pub / shop as it brings you back to a bygone era in Ireland with the shop and the pub together . The decor is fantastic and the bar is kept really nice and warm with a pot bellied stove . The pints of Guinness are really really good and served just right . The barman was very very welcoming and full of local information . The bar is kept spotless and the toilets are very clean . I would highly recommend a visit to OWEN TRAYNORS .

It's one of the last little country character pubs left in Ireland, very cosy friendly family run establishment, with grocery out the front.

What a wonderful place to have a drink and also pick up your shopping. Owen himself an absolute gentleman. You should not pass through Oldcastle without calling in
