J. K. M.One of the best pubs in Galway, in my opinion. The staff were extremely efficient from the beginning to the end – from checking our vaccination certificates to swiftly taking our orders immediately after being shown our table. I did not have a good time at the place I was at before entering John Keogh’s and my mood swiftly changed to a good one. The pub was very clean. The staff were very welcoming and the music was great (1990s) – admittedly appealing to me being nostalgic. I loved the atmosphere at John Keogh’s and if I lived in Galway, I’d definitely be a regular .

The venue its self is very easy to find, and had a great atmosphere per covid.
Things have changed, not really for the better.
Bar is nice, staff are friendly, but they couldn't cope with a Saturday night.
The food is my main bone of contention, So I enjoy my steak, and blue is how I always order it. The one I received came out medium rare at best. It took 10/15 minutes to ask for a steak knife, that should have come out on the plate, if not left at the seat when the order was placed. No one came to check and see if everything was OK once the food was left down to us. They should have known something was not right when half of a 28euro steak was not finished.
As someone who did work in restaurants for Many years these are simple things to get right/wrong and are easy to fix.

A. G.Fabulous pub, great floor staff but food is mediocre at best. I had sea bass (my favourite fish) plonked on top of lots of baby potatoes and green beans along with discs of chorizo that were mainly dry and rubbery. No seasoning on fish & no dressing or sauce.
I tried to finish my meal on a high up with dessert, but again, the meringue was edible but uninspiring served in a small bowl and nothing else on the plate. Will not be rushing back for food but its a nice place to have a drink.

B. L.I made reservations for 9:15 and showed up at 9:00. I was told the kitchen was closed, but they were still serving drinks in the bar area and was told to grab a seat at the bar. I told them we had reservations, and they immediately showed us to the dining room. So let that be a lesson to ya’ - make reservations!
The temperature was pretty warm inside.
After this little SNAFU, things went pretty smooth. We had the best server in the world. She was FUN and she knew the menu upside down and was able to answer all of our questions.
We ordered the duck spring rolls as an app (€8.00). There was plenty of tasty duck tucked inside these rolls, with sweet, poached plums on the side, served on a bed of crispy kale and sprinkled with a bit of coarse ground black pepper. I highly recommend them (and I’m not a huge fan of duck).
I had the traditional fish and chips (€17.00) which were decent, but nothing to brag about, and not worth the steep price. I found fish and chips to be exactly the same anywhere in Ireland or in the U.S. It included a chunky tartar sauce on the side and a small side salad. PLENTY of food to fill you up, but just no “wow” factor here. It was typical fish and chips.
We also ordered the hand-rolled gnocchi (€14.50). It was served over a tasty spiced tomato sauce, with pesto, and a few roasted red onions, all drizzled with gorgonzola cheese, pesto. It was a great combination.
Drink prices:
A pint of Bogman Irish Amber Ale (which I didn’t see anywhere else in Ireland) was €6.50 - I highly recommend this one if you like amber ales.
Bottle of Corona is €5
Jameson and Ginger Ale is €7.30
My advice to you - don't try the fish and chips at an upscale place. Try a hole in the wall joint, or even one of the fast food joints available in Galway.
R. L.Struggled to get in anywhere because we were group of eight. We stumbled upon John Keoghs and front the outset they couldn’t have been more accommodating. Excellent service the servers were on the ball. The Food and cocktails are gorgeous. I hope to be back at John Keoghs very soon.

M. H.Did a bit of homework before arriving in Galway and down to reviews booked John Geoghs Gastropub due to my husband being coeliac. On arrival very busy but still very covid aware, we were asked for covid certs. Shown to our table and drinks served very promptly. When waitress came back to take order my husband asked for gluten Free burger, waitress explained no gluten Free bun/bread available. He changed to Seabass and I had Fish and Chips. Both were excellent. Could not fault our waitress either. Very professional and pleasant. Only reason for the four stars is that I specifically booked due to the ratings due to Gluten Free food. Cannot understand how they would not have Gluten Free Bread available on a Saturday Night. All and all very good restaurant and would advise anyone to go just keep some gluten Free Bread on the premises!!

Not only was the food delicious but the staff were exceptional. Amy (definitely not from belfast) and Michelle, despite it being there first week on the job they absolutely smashed it. Well done girls.

P. C.Me and my girlfriend Aine had a pleasant experience here at Keoghs. Funnily enough we were greeted by another Aine. The two girls bonded instantly in a way only two Aines can. Food wise it was excellent. I had a steak which was so tender in literally slid off the plate and into my mouth. Aine went for the rivaoli which reminded her of our holiday in Venice in March 2013. The 'feng shui' of the place was both peaceful and welcoming, with a touch of zest. 5 stars for the ambience, kitchen and our waitress Aine. Will be returning immediately if not sooner.

j. m. c.We visited on the 2nd of August. We had about a 2 minute wait for our pre booked table. The place was buzzing. Despite covid restrictions the pub atmosphere was maintained. We ordered a starter of tempura prawns to share and 2 steaks. The order was taken quickly and drinks arrived straight away. The prawns were delicious, cooked perfectly. When the steaks arrived we were so impressed with the look of them we had to become instahuns and post pics immediately. The meal was absolutely delicious. Both steaks were ordered medium and cooked to perfection. My only very small complaint is that the steak knives are very blunt. Extremely enjoyable evening all round and the staff were a delight.

Then the food was absolutely superb. We went for the bar tapas and tried several things which were all of a really high standard. A cosy fire and great wine made it a brilliant choice for us. We will be back over and over again I expect!

Great beer selection. We came back for dinner with friends some months later, the menu had changed a bit but the food was great again. Can only recommend!

c. o.Great location as we were stayi g just a road behind. Very nice serving staff. Good crowd in for a Thursday night. We looked like we were sheltering from Storm Lorenzo in solidarity by stuffing our faces! There was a change in the menu just that night. I ordered pan fried cod, but unfortunately, for me, the roast red pepper(capsicum) sauce just didn't work. It had a sour, bitter taste that took from the chunky cod and messed up the dish. My company had the belly pork, which was a little stringy but tasty. The fish cake looked a treat but was a little on the dry side. All in all, good atmosphere and service but let down by average fare.

We didn't have a booking but it didn't seem very busy yet we had to wait a bit for a table. It's a very casual bistro pub and staff are lovely.
We both had the braised lamb shoulder special which was very good although the mash was luke warm on both dishes. Given that it is essentially pub grub with restaurant style service I think it's quite overpriced.

From the incredibly courteous wait staff to the almost overly delicious food I could not endorse this place more. The pork belly starter will fondly be remember as the nicest pork I've had in Ireland, possibly ever!
My only disappointment is that I didn't order the home made pasta which, as I found out from both other parties at my table, was some of the best pasta they've ever had! The small taste I had certainly agreed with their assertions.
I couldn't recommend the place higher and will certainly be coming back on my next visit! 5/5

Crowd is kinda mainstream with some money, which is not my cup of tea, but the place is clean and new, and they have a couple of very well organised dedicated spaces for private parties. No smoking area, you'll need to smoke on a busy and crammed sidewalk. Ambient music is basic commercial stuff, which grates my nerves. Fourth star for the lovely dining area staff and the good food and pint.

G.School Reunion Spoiled by Head Bouncer
We had our reunion here from 2pm with bar food. Drink and food were very good with good service from staff. Bouncer decided that one of our party would not get back in from his cigarette break at front door because he didn't like what he heard him say. Wouldn't even let him back in for his jacket. Very poor treatment of their customers. A bad bouncer is someone that can't handle the authority that goes with the job. And this man was definitely one of them. We all (25 of us) then had to leave and went to the Dew drop inn.... We won't be going back to the Lockkeeper in a hurry
