Great fun. This isn't a nice pub it's a gritty pub. Service was top notch and pint were lovely, worth a stop in.

A grand pub, with a good range of beers, including Smithwicks and for a fiver a pint. It also has proper respect for sport, with a big screen and the commentary turned up, not intrusively but adequately. Nice crowd around the pool table too.

There are very few places in left that capture the spirit of "old" Kinsale, the town that existed before tourism arrived. The culture used to be influenced by being a port full of fishermen, sailors, and working-class townies; it was simultaneously friendly and rough around the edges. That authenticity still exists inside the Armada. Don't let its rough reputation scare you off -- it's a perfectly safe place and the only time you'll find a fight is if you're looking for one; just remember that it costs nothing to be nice and you'll be fine.
The establishment is owned by Mary, a formidable woman whose gruff manner belies a patient and kind demeanor. She's the heart of the entire establishment and fits right in alongside the old murals of ships, the sturdy furniture, and the eclectic crowd. Mary brings in music regularly and sometimes the performances are good, although at other times the music is middling and it gives the locals something to cheekily complain about. Later at night the jukebox comes on, the rowdy boys come out, and there's a queue to the pool table. It's at this time of night that people can become a bit wary of the establishment, but I assure you there's a warm welcome to be had for anyone who approaches with a bit of patience and respect.
It's the Armada, known as "Beirut" to the locals, and it's an establishment unlike any other. Highly recommended to anyone who appreciates a rich cultural petina with their pint.
