Related to me to!! I'm a 2'nd cous. Married in ! My father used to get a loan of stools and chairs when having a cabaret(yes used to called).
Michael played at my late fathers 80th (20 years ago, omg) in my pub now, mattys pub.
I was there a few times had a great time. Brilliant piano player, he could play anything, and I mean anything. Ledgend. Great documentary done by RTE I think about country pubs, hes in it(1st on tv about 2000?).
Lots more to be said but not here on a review. It was said in the late 1970's if you were not in the pub by 8pm, your not getting it, because it was packed to the door! Wonder what happened to the grand piano?

The oldest Public House in Co. Carlow. Established by my Great Grandfather,
Mr Patrick Francis Smyth in 1815. Famous for its weekly piano recitals by Michael Smyth. Visitors came from far and near to enjoy and participate in the most enjoyable convivial atmosphere. Sadly, the venue was finally closed following Michael’s death in 2013.

Very homely family run pub, old school, very welcoming and warm conversationalist atmosphere.
