Quite expensive but an excellent experience. Well located, lovely decor. Tables quite private given layout of the place. Staff friendly with an excellent lady in charge of our table - friendly and very knowledgeable about the menu. Kids menu was one of the best I've ever seen and very reasonably priced too. Food was excellent - refined and sophisticated but not in ridiculously small portions either. Perhaps we ordered our wines badly but neither of the 2 bottles (both around €35) were particularly memorable - not sure if that's the list or if we chose badly. But overall a fine dining experience - if it's within budget I'd definitely recommend it.

Staff were fantastic, very welcoming, the setting is beautiful. Then down to the food. All I can say is my words will lack the superlatives to describe how great it was. This was one of the best meals I've ever had each course was a taste explosion. It was brilliant. Thank you Thyme. Go on treat yourself, you won't regret it .

We had a fabulous meal here on Friday. A friend and I went and I can’t say anything negative about it! The food was beautifully cooked, well presented and the service was excellent. Neither of us were drinking and there were a few non-alcoholic options available. I wish I’d taken photos of the food but the dishes were simply too mouthwatering and we couldn’t resist. I had a starter of scallops, main course of monkfish and a lemon meringue to finish things off. Coffee was also perfect. It’s not a cheap meal but it’s great quality and I feel very reasonable at €58 per person for three excellent courses. Similar restaurants would charge €80+ Highly recommended - I hope I’ll be back again soon.

We first discovered Thyme Restaurant when we were looking for a place to eat en route from Dublin to Roscommon. We enjoyed the food so much that next time we went on holiday we planned a night in Athlone to hit this restaurant. When we visited there were two set menus, one a little more simple and the other more elaborate and interesting. The food combinations build a lot of flavours together in a very interesting way. The lamb and gnocchi was exceptional. We thought the prices very reasonable for food of this quality. The staff are all very friendly and our return trip did not disappoint. Highly recommend this as a stop off point on the way out to the West of Ireland or as a destination itself.

My favourite Midlands restaurant and a must go if you want something a bit special and different. I cannot fault it: the food is exceptional and service professional yet friendly and down to earth. Not a single misstep. My lemon meringue was sublime and the best I have ever tasted! As one other reviewer mentioned, the food is on par with some Michelin-starred restaurants. The only thing I don't like is the partition in the middle of the dining room which blocks the view and in my opinion detracts from the atmosphere but that is a very minor criticism. Go, go, go - you won't regret it!

The staff particularly Sharon are so professional and give you the best dining experience you can have. We have celebrated so many special occasions there. My husband and I together with two friends went to Thyme restaurant on 29th Sepr. Social distancing in place and all staff were well versed in all aspects of care and attention . It was probably the best meal we have ever enjoyed. Food was just amazing and the flavours and presentation was a sight to behold. It was our joint anniversaries and they decorated our dessert plates ! Definitely worth a trip to Athlone just to enjoy a meal in this wonderful restaurant. A magical experience. Lovely place and lovely staff too. Quite a small spot but when you walk in to this place you will be welcomed and you can ask anything about their menu and you can be sure the staff will know. Its a more pricey place to visit but absolutely worth it. Posh dishes in a homely environment. Would definitely recommend if your looking for something romantic and fancy, or even different when it comes to a menu choice. My girlfriend who was a vegetarian at the time of our first visit here had an incredible vegetarian dish whilst I had a dish that included squid. It was delicious. Come here for good food people 😊

Lovely evening, great food. It initially looks sparce but there's plenty if food to fill you up. A nice treacle bread to nibble on with walnut butter, starter I had a ham hock with a fried egg - it looks like an unusual delivery, the ham shreds and chunks in a sea of foam with a crispy egg in the middle. Next I had loin of beef with beef cheek in a potato croquet, perfectly cooked, seasonal veg included potatoes and turnip. Lastly had a ginger and lime cheesecake. All delicious

Fantastic food, great service and reasonably priced for the level of food. We had the chicken terrine and the ham with celeriac starters and beef loin and duck mains, all of which were excellent. The desserts were also amazing. Highly recommend this restaurant and we'll be going back on our next visit to the west of Ireland .... Soon.

Yum!.. delicious veggie main, the goats cheese starter was also delish altho the cheese moose itself was fairly bland!.. bit odd that the carrot soup was made from beef stock so be careful vegamatarians of that, altho my mam assured me it was unreal 😉.. and my vegan celiac sister was really happy with what the chef whipped up! :)

It is my birthday today and my daughter suggested Thyme Restaurant. We had never been, but will definitely be back! Really tasty, original and high quality food. The service was superb and the atmosphere and ambience comfortable and cheerful. Lovely decor, comfortable seating as well. Only quibble: my desert Pear and Ginger Pannacota was slightly bland for my taste and serving it on a white plate did nothing to enhance it, or the hard work that went into making it.

It's handy enough to get here off the motorway to break up long drives. We were seated immediately with 2 young kids and i was really pleased to see choices for them that wasn't only chips and there was vegetables! Wow. A really, really nice surprise. Who knew athlone held such delights? Visiting from London where you would never get food of this quality, with so many delicate flavours for such a great price. (Translated) This restaurant in spite of myself I have to judge with two opposite judgments. The quality of the products served is very high and also the dish is very well done. The environment, on the other hand, with excellent details on the walls, an indication of a search for refinement, is affected by a floor that is too poor but more than anything else by the presence of horrible black pipes in the ceiling air conditioning system, ask your plumber or paint and improve these details. As for the service I found it unacceptable to leave the cleaning tools on the tables freed, besides that another big mistake is to leave the table "dirty" when serving the dessert. Before serving the dessert, in a quality restaurant, the table must be cleaned and any residues left over from the previous dishes removed, there are elegant silver crumb collectors, 3 seconds of additional service but the quality and satisfaction will benefit incredibly. L'ambiente invece, con ottimi dettagli alle pareti, indice di una ricerca di raffinatezza è inficiato da un pavimento troppo povero ma più che altro dalla presenza a vista di orribili tubi neri nell'impianto di condizionamento a soffitto, fate intervenire il vostro idraulico o imbianchino e migliorate questi dettagli. Per ciò che riguarda il servizio ho trovato inaccettabile lasciare gli strumenti di pulizia sui tavoli liberati, oltre a ciò un altro grande errore è lasciare la tavola "sporca" quando si serve il dolce. Prima di servire il dolce, in un ristorante di qualità, la tavola deve essere pulita e rimossi eventuali residui rimasti dai piatti precedenti, esistono eleganti raccogli briciole in argento, 3 secondi di servizio aggiuntivo ma la qualità e la soddisfazione ne gioverà incredibilmente. Il prezzo richiesto è mediamente alto, come ho detto in precedenza la qualità è ottima e varrebbe le 5 stelle ma a quel prezzo anche il servizio deve essere impeccabile così come tutti i dettagli.
