Reviews of Marys Bakery
Beautiful place to have some great food in a very small village on Wild Atlantic Way and easily the best option around Downpatrick Head. Staffs were so nice and the seating in the backgarden is superb. Ordered Vegetable Soup, Soda Bread and Fish platter and it was all good. The home made soda bread was the best I ever had so far. Sadly Crab Meat were not available on the fish platter. Surely will come again to try some other dishes from their menu.
Lovely little cottage restaurant in Ballycastle, North Mayo. Has won many awards over the years. Due to Covid numbers we were unable to get a table. We asked to see the Menu and choose to take out 2 fish chowders which were more manageable in the car. They were top class, plenty of fish, celery and potato. We also had brown bread which I was assured had no egg. Very tasty. Hope to be back. Very worth a visit
Mary’s cottage kitchen is the perfect place to stop for breakfast, lunch & dinner when nearby. We were staying nearby and had breakfast, lunch & dinner there. All three meals were delicious, lovely home cooked Irish food. The staff are so friendly and it’s also very handy that they do take out too. Would highly recommend!
County Mayo in Ireland is an amazing place to stay. The best description of the area would be!.... Equal to a small village in Greenland.
The cottage in itself which offers food was a nice step over to our next destination.
The food was excellent. We shared a plate of fresh fishes and seafood called a : fish plater and it was pure heaven with a nice glass of white wine. Mary, who is the owner of the place, cook all the meals for her customers and the food is great.
This is an excellent cafe, I had a delicious goats cheese salad and my mate loved his chowder. The staff are super friendly and directed us to beautiful local landmarks. Highly recommended.
Absolutely loved this place ❤ fabulous food and lovely friendly staff 😊
Had lunch here yesterday. Really good, highly recommended. Try the black pudding and potato bread dish it won’t disappoint. Owner and staff really friendly too.
Lovely restaurant with a fantastic staff. Dishes are delicious, specially seafood chowder (the best I've ever tasted) and 60%dark chocolate cake (made me feel in heaven!!). You feel at granny's home. Recommended 100%!!!
A wonderful little stop off on the way to Down Patrick Head. Marys place is old, beautiful, rustic and welcoming. She and her daughter's are friendly and chatty and their food was delish. All homemade and served with a smile in her beautiful garden seating area. Lots of week wishes from the purple door team
Mary's Cottage Kitchen is the place to stop for home made, tasty and freshly prepared lunch. Cottage welcomes you to it's authentic style, clean tables, and caring owners.
Food is great, portions are generous, selection just right!
No smells of kitchen in the dining area, which is great achievement for that compact but busy place!
Do not pass by when you're there after exploring beautiful Downpatrick Head!
Always lovely to visit Mary’s in Ballycastle. Very friendly staff and fresh home cooked food. Potato cakes are simply the best. Outdoor area is a great addition and very welcome is this difficult times.
Staff was extremely friendly. The crab meat platter was delicious. The seafood chowder was okkey, but the soup of the day was quite bland. Maybe just got there on the wrong day!
Homemade soda bread really fresh and soft.
Beautiful view from the back garden.
Thank you Mary. See you again!
I’ve been to Ballycastle twice, and both times I’ve had the pleasure of dining in Mary’s Cottage Kitchen. Great tasting, wholesome, home cooked food. The most recent time was after a long days hiking along the Western Way, and I tucked into seafood chowder, fresh soda break, a lovely vegetarian quiche with salad and some fresh mint tea from the garden as a digestif. Had a lovely chat with Mary and her daughter Geraldine before I went off on my merry way. Hospitality is alive and well in the west!
Good service and food. Reasonably priced. Good selection. Freshly prepared. A place to dine. Choice of indoor or outdoor seating. Book before or Q.
This coffee shop is an absolute gem. From the incredibly friendly service to the amazing quality food on offer. I live in the US but when visiting Mayo I always make it a must to visit. Highly recommend!
The food was all home made and delicious, staff were welcoming and friendly, and the venue was homely with a lovely open fire very welcome on a wet Monday afternoon.
Had a cuppa coffee and scone, the missus had tea and scone. Staff were very nice indeed. They make yum yum jams.
Lovely staff. Very good chowder and bread. Menu is small and expensive for what is on offer.
Nice place to eat breakfast. Light meals after 12. Cakes and coffee. Hostess very friendly.
Had beautiful sea food chowder there yesterday. Lovely setting and staff very friendly
Food is great and staff are very nice and friendly and can't do enough for you.
Very nice fresh crab salad and a good serving of baked that morning brown bread, excellent, lovley staff to
Beautiful food friendly staff.
Lovely restaurant great coffee
Fabulous little oasis. Sat out in the lovely garden with tea, home made scones and home made gooseberry jam. Staff very friendly and professional. Place was spotless.
Great Homemade food, homemade Jams are delicious. Very friendly service. Was cold could have been a bit warmer but it is a very old cottage so probably to be expected.
We stopped here after visiting DownPatrick Head and were not disappointed. The food is delicious and the staff and owner and so friendly and welcoming. Great little find on the Wild Atlantic Way.
Yeah, this place is unreal! Great homemade food and unbelievable service!
The owner had vegan/vegetarian options for a couple of us. She gave us recommendations of places to see and offered to call the Manager of a historic site to get us in to visit as it was closed on the day!
Nice food. Host awesome. Real Irish welcome and food outstanding. Great converted 40ft container out back. 👍
Great stop on a bike spin. Food is quality. Service great. No problem charging electric bikes.
Had a lovely takeaway here today - food was excellent and great coffee. Staff very friendly too.. would go back again!
Cute and quaint, lovely soup and bread but I'd give 10 stars if I could for the cheesecake! Unreal!
On the way we had lunch today - it was already 4.20 but the owner kindly served us - Chawder was very tasty. Thank you. 5 stars- recommended - lovely place❤️

Great stop on a bike spin. Food is quality. Service great. No problem charging electric bikes.
Friendly service and fabulous home baking. I had coffee and lemon cheesecake. The cheesecake was delicious. Coffee is good, but not perfect. The bonus in these times is that you can be seated in the little garden at the back, with a view of the ocean. So there is less need to worry about social distancing.

Great breakfast and coffee. Homemade bread was delicious
Any time we are in the area we call for tea and scones. The jams are the best and we usually purchase a couple to go.
Delicious food, and Mary (the owner) is very nice and friendly.
I was passing by on the C600 Audax cycle, decided to give this place a go and was I blown away, normally the food establishment's in the west are far superior to Dublin in service and quality, but this restaurant was by far 10 steps ahead of the rest, the food all home made and I could tell it was made with passion & pride, the staff were so friendly and accommodating, it was easy to tell they enjoyed their job, the whole experience from A to Z was exceptional.
If the owner is reading this, please keep this place like this, you guys are amazing and unfortunately a dying breed in Ireland.
Very friendly and accommodating service. Food fabulous 😋
Great food. All freshly prepared .. Cheese cake was excellent
Great food and lovely people. We would highly recommend Mary's Cottage Kitchen.

Absolutely perfection! I love bringing groups here, it’s a highlight on Rachel’s Irish Adventures. Mary is an inspirational woman, the food is all homemade and delicious- her chocolate cake is the best in Ireland!
The setting is unique and cosy and the service is top class..

The menu from Marys Cottage Kitchen.
Stopped here after 40km cycle. Brilliant wee cottage. Scone and coffee are truly beautiful. The cheese cake was Devine. I'd recommend here for a visit. Céide fields a few miles up the road. Downpatrick head 15 minutes by car. Wonderful spot to visit
Amazing food. Mary has all boxes tick for me, very polite lady .Knows all the protocol with Covid making every customer fell safe. I will definitely come back here
Lovely place all home made. Great food, lovely fresh sea food, great service nothing was to much bother. If ever in the area again I will call in 👍😊.
Lovely little place with great menu. Good selection of gluten free options available. Homemade Jam &brown bread available to buy also. Lovely staff.
Excellent home cooking with a very friendly atmosphere. Highly recommend
Matt’s is a great wee cafe and we had the pleasure of speaking to Mary herself. The seafood chowder and home made bread were just what we needed on a bitterly cold day. Lovely
Such a sweet and homey place! Home cooked meals, soups, breads, and a real at-home feel to the place and the service. I loved my panini sandwich with steaming hot soup, and the seafood chowder is topnotch. Eat here if you can!
Excellent, food terrific, friendly staff, very clean.
Great food. Nice garden
Mary’s Cottage doesn’t offer you only a good meal, but also the Ireland experience you hope to meet. The fresh and plentiful fish in the chowder, the delicious crab and the chocolate cake, are combined with a unexpectedly kind staff, with a selfless spirit symbol of Ireland that we have known.
Mary and Geraldine, with their help and the best meal of the whole road trip, have made this vacation unforgettable!

Lovely homely place for a bite to eat! Scones and jam are so good! And the fish platter is just awesome!
Me and my friend stopped here for lunch after visiting St Patrick's Head. We were warmly greeted as we walked in the door by Mary. Yes the menu was small but everything is homemade and delicious. I got the soup of the day (veg) and a scone. I would definitely come back if I was in the area again.

..nice time we have there. Thank you for amazing soup.
Loved this place. Little overpriced for the food but it's an experience and they also need to cover the cost of maintaining a beautiful 200 year old cottage so I didn't mind.
Great staff and overall a lovely place for a meal or a snack after a walk around Downpatrick Head.
Excellent food, great value for your money
Grainne was a delightful waitress. Thank you 💓

Fantastic service and food. You must go if you are passing through. I will definitely come back to this lovely restaurant.
This is a very special restaurant, located on the right side of Ballycastle as you leave town, heading back towards Erris.
Mary, the owner and chief bottle washer has worked hard to create this restaurant, prioritising healthy, homemade fare.
The menu is simple but provides something for everyone.
Freshly made foods is the main focus, with healthy sustenance the aim.
Do pop in, if you are passing to experience the Irish welcome that awaits you here.
A great find for coffee and a cake.
Lovely food nice atmosphere and really lovely staff.
The black pudding dish was great
Loved the goats cheese salad & met Mary.. Very friendly staff. Sat out in the garden. Lovely
Great food with a great service
Lovely girl served us .. food was good.. had to make a mini picnic out of it as covid prevented us from getting a table
Mary's cottage kitchen has been going for over 20 years, atmosphere is great, all food is home cooked by Mary and the chef's. You'll not find a better place to to eat in "north west mayo". You'll find her in Ballycastle on #WildAtlanticWay #NorthMayo . Call in for a bite you won't regret it.
A nice place to rest a bit after a busy day with good fresh tarts and other food. The building is 200 years old and its in a good condition! The right place to visit.

Great place
Was alright
Returning from Donwpatrick Head, before resuming the Wild Atlantic Way, we stopped in this small place. The atmosphere was welcoming and familiar, as were the service and the staff. We got the soup and wrap of the day, delicious and great for a light lunch before hitting the road again. The desserts are also very good, obviously homemade.
A small, warm restaurant with quality Irish products and rather vegetarian home cooking. We had the dish of the day, chickpeas, squash, spicy sweet potatoes and a fish cake + a lemon cheese cake. Excellent
On a 2 week road trip, this was the place we enjoyed the most. We always get chowder at restaurants, but this was the richest and tastiest, and the chocolate cake was fantastic!!
hospitable environment, the staff is hospitable and very kind.
Honest prices. We were very sorry not to be able to return
Very friendly and very fine food… I'll always come back here!
Very helpful people, we arrived at closing time (they are open every day of the week from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM) and were given warmed up quiche and whatever else we wanted and were allowed to eat it in their garden, great service! The staff is also very friendly and the food tasted delicious!
