Friendly staff, good food, and lovely views. I was hesitant about ordering the supreme of chicken because I'm not a fan of red wine sauces. The chicken was very good, I'd consider ordering it again. My mom ordered her steak rare, as in near mooing 🤮 but she said it was fantastic.
K. K.
Had the Thai Steamed Seafood Pot and it was superb. Fine, big portion of delicious shellfish, in a yummy, creamy broth of garlic and lemongrass, with a hefty chilli kick. Hard to beat.
My family had the steak, the John Dory and the salmon with prawns. All excellent.
Looking forward to coming back.

Went for food on a sunny saturday.
Staff very nice.
Seating outside and inside.
Seating with a nice view fantastic.
Food was great.
Parking bear by.

Food was delish, service was very good and the portions were fairly massive. Good combination all round!
K. H.
Food was good, not exceptionally great as some of the reviews here say. Had the fresh fish of the day but it was drenched in a creamy sauce. Soup of the day was a decent pumpkin soup. The vegetarian option seemed to be made up on the spot with whatever was available in the kitchen. However, the service was fast and the restaurant has a nice view of the quay.
J. V.
Amazing food, I had the steamed Thai food pot which can not be recommended enough. The portions were amazing and the sauce was incredible. My girlfriend had the grilled salmon which was incredible too. Must visit
A. A.
Great location and nice staff. Honestly, I was expecting more tastiness from the food offered at Pier Head - specially because the locals were selling it as one of the best options in the village. While having lunch here, I had the breaded kitchen, which in my opinion was good, but nothing out of this world. Yet, a great restaurant to stop by.

Before I arrive in Galway I got hungry and I stopped for food and asking the people around for seafood and they recommend me Pier restaurant, I came without booking but they gave me the seat for dinner.
Food absolutely fabulous and delicious, service was great and the staff are friendly and smile.
One of the best restaurants I went to for seafood and I wrote this review as a chef.
Thank you to all of you guys. 🌹
Highly recommended for good food.

Wasn't too impressed with the seafood platter. I wanted it to be very fresh, it wasn't. Probably a day or two old, still acceptable to eat but not good enough for €30
The butter sauce wasn't great either.
Couldn't fault the service, waiter was genuine and personable. They do a great pint of Guinness and have a fantastic view
C. W.
Very nice meal, we ordered salad and chips as sides. There were enough chips in 1 side for the whole table. Next time we'll just get one to share. Great service.
h. k.
Nice food, good attentive service, we sat outdoors and everything was clean and tidy. Lovely menu but was very overpriced. Most mains are close to 30euro! Kids menu very standard and prices too. It is nice and fresh food but personally wouldn't be rushing back based on price.
L. F.
Really good customer service. The Seafood platter is outstanding and we saw some dolphins in the bay. Our daughter is a wheelchair user and there is a ramp plus wheelchair accessible parking right beside the restaurant. Very relaxing spot
G. M. O.
Very tasty food and very nice staff.
Y. B.
Such a great place to eat. Food is fantastic. The staff are so friendly and helpful. Would highly recommend .
H. T.
Gorgeous dinner outside on their patio. They very kindly fitted us in last minute, and I'm so glad they did! The hake and John dory were top class. Great people watching on the pier from their outdoor patio! Staff were friendly and attentive
A. A.
Lovely place in a great location, and the food was amazing. The staff was super friendly as well. One of the best seafood chowders I've had so far!
R. O.
Having been here several times before I was very disappointed. We got prawns I would not buy in the frozen section of the supermarket.... About 8/10 for €25 when there is so much fresh seafood available locally. The mussels, crab claw and clam pot was OK..... Included the same frozen prawns and was not value at €28. Not sure I would rush back. Such a pity.
P. G.
Lovely location especially on a sunny spring day. Staff looked after us well and weren't pushy at all. The food was nice but felt the menu could have been more varied and it was expensive. Portions could have been bigger.
L. J.
Consistently great food, lovely atmosphere and wonderful staff. Had an excellent vegetarian option the last time we visited
D. G.
Cozy restaurant with a tasty menu and great service. It's also in an excellent location in a gorgeous small town. LOVED IT!
K. P.
Amazing spot. Excellent vegetarian options. Had a great experience, we asked where the salmon and mussels were from and the waitress pointed to a green boat behind us in the bay and said "well, mostly that one!"
What a great meal!
S. W.
Loved this restaurant. Second time to visit. We had booked a table but we're asked if we would mind moving and the table we got was better as it had a lovely views over the sea. Food was lovely although thought the fish dish that I got was a bit small. Besides that would recommend this to anyone staying in Kinrara
P. D.
Lovely restaurant that specialises in fish. Had a beautiful meal here. Hadn't booked but they accomodated us. The food was beautiful and the service great. Highly recommend it.
D. O. C.
A very welcoming restaurant , with a menu for everybody. Great service and excellent food . Great location .
O. S.
Excellent food for lunch. I had the crab claws in garlic and my wife had the calamari. Good prices on lunch menu.
C. N. L.
Great place for a nice sea-fresh lunch, and drink , good service, and a view towards the pier if course!
Toilets are up a steep staircase. The more upmarket restaurant is upstairs too and worth booking for a special occasion .
A. L.
Nice tasty food, supreme of chicken is highly recommended. Only reason its not 5 star for me is the cost
M. L.
Nice fish, but when I'm paying €27.95 for half a fillet of fish, I'd expect to have vegetables and potatoes or salad and chips with it, and not have to pick just one option. Bit scabby that.
M. T.
All I can say is wow great food staff and view well done keep up the good work
F. B.
Excellent. Lovely food, good staff. Make a reservation and ask for a table by the window looking out over the harbour. Well worth a visit.
G. C.
Attended a christening party in the Pier Head recently. The food was exceptional. Great vegetarian options. Staff are excellent..i would highly recommend
F. S.
Excellent location, nice fresh fish and meat. Very friendly staff. Good advice on the local ale.
J. K.
Great spot. Food is always good and the consistency is what makes it so good. Nice staff and lovely views.
P. D.
Some of the food was nice, menu could have more options
M. K.
The food was delicious and very fresh. I liked the portion size too
S. C.

Was in search of a nice chowder after walk in Flaggy Shore and was very happy with service and offerings here.
C. D. P.
Great setting, food, service - will go again soon
E. C.
Absolutely delighted we found this place. The food was amazing from breaded mushrooms to striploin steak the taste was perfect. Topped off with lovely wine. Customer service was top notch too. Will 100% be back if down this way from Dublin again.
R. B.
Lovely location, right next to the pier. The fish if the day in white wine sauce was delicious.
Y.
Good service and good food. We ordered kids chowder for my son. It was not salty and seafood is soft texture. Very nice restaurant!!
B. M. C.

This is one of the finest places i have been for lunch in years. The staff are amazing.
A warm welcome awaits all who enter.
m. T.
Highly recommend, service was 10/10 and the vegetarian enchiladas were delicious, you won't be disappointed 👌
A. S. A.
Good food, one of the best seafood chowder I have tried! Cozy place
R. R.
They double book people to cram everyone in. We arrived at our designated booking time and had to wait 1 hour for a table. Not good!!!!
It was very noisy, we could not have any conversation unless we shouted across the table. There was no way we could hear the music at all, so don't go to hear music, you won't. Not good!!!
The food was cooked well and was good, but not enough, and not good value for the portions we got. I ordered onion rings with my steak and received greasy fried onions. Not good!!!
Overall I have only given it 3 stars and that is being generous too. If they became more customer focused and more professional, I would have given them a few more stars.
It's a shame really, as the location is excellent.
D.
Food was delicious, staff were so nice! Beautiful location.
g. k.
Had a lovely sit down meal with my wife and daughter. Phoning ahead is necessary due to covid. Seating is appropriately spaced and staff are knowledgable where distancing and hygiene are concerned.
Food was excellent end not too expensive.
J. H.
Second visit, just as good as the first several months ago. Lovely views, friendly staff, fab seafood chowder and mussels. Brown bread is a winner. Great Guinness and the chardonnay by the glass is nice too. Saw sticky toffee pudding is on dinner menu..would love to have that option at lunch too 😀
M. Y.
Delicious duck. Pretty costly but worth it. Nice location and good service
e. l.
The worse cheese cake in the world
Main courses are good
N. M.
Most enjoyable and great food will return again.
M. K.
Had one of the best clam dishes of my life in the pier head. Great value, nice and attentive staff and a cosy ambience. Will come again.
R. D.

This place worth a visit re the quality of seafood …excellent
A. C.
Great location, stunning views out onto the water. Fab food as always. Excellent service. Great set up from a C19 perspective, and love the space that has been created outside.

Delicious pizza, really testy, friendly staff. The Price is good enough.
t. c.
When ever i'm on the west coast I love stopping in here for their seafood chowder. The best I have ever had and I have had alot of chowder.
C. F.
Lovely food , I had the vegan plate and it was 🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤
A. L.
Lovely experience. Covid measures were excellent
A. D.
Lovely place, lovely refreshments.. Toilets needed attention.
A. G.
Excellent food and service.
J. W.
The hospitality here is great and there is a fine menu to select your favourite food. I have recorded it to others and they have been pleased also. Many customers come from Galway city to dine here too so there must be something interesting about the location and the menu offered .
Z. L.
Best meal I've had so far in Ireland. The seafood chowder is out of this world good. Excellent service, great wine selection. I would rate the bar at four star at most, the alcohol selection was a bit basic, but the restaurant is seriously amazing.
J. T.
Celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary here and we were presented with a celebratory and complimentary dessert and Irish Coffees. Lovely touch. Nice meal and Atlantic fish chowder outstanding.
G. C.
really enjoy my 2 courses and guinness
A. K.
It's an unassuming building but once you are inside you realise just how big it actually is.
There are views across the harbour and the bay from the windows and the decor reflects it position in Kinvarra.
There's a reasonable menu ( more veggie please) and the prices are competitive. Service was quick and the staff friendly.
There's an outside seating area and l am sure it gets busy during the summer months so booking is advisable.
Disabled friendly, but there is quite a steep slope too and from the bar.
K. H.
Shellfish is superb . Our favourite stop on the west. Consistent fresh seafood. Thai seafood is our go- to order. Mussles, Giant shrimp Crab claws in spicy broth. Very friendly staff and quaint waterside setting makes The Pier Head a gem of the west. Well priced menu .
R. D.
Beautiful food, cosy atmosphere & fantastic staff! Barnabus (our waiter) was very helpful, friendly & made the visit really relaxed and fun for us. Would highly recommend this restaurant/bar - the views are glorious & it's just a lovely little nook along the coast
G. H.
When on a rainy day, you go to "another random Irish restaurant" on the pier - and end up eating the best seafood chowder! The soup of day was also fantastic. All this with amazing and fast service. Thank you!
M. O. D.
Always enjoy the food and views here. Excellent location and well run establishment.
A. D.
Great service, warm atmosphere and excellent food. First time eating out in a while and the staff made it feel very normal.
C. K.
The starters were very good and set the tone well, but there was a long delay until the mains were served and, whilst they were tasty, the price was a bit steep for what was included.
J. S.
Went there two nights ago. 5 adults. Service very good. Waiter spent a lot of time staring at and removing cutlery only to replace it again as per the meals we ordered. Best just leave everything the way it was...
The menu is the same as any Irish restaurant menu I saw 15 years ago.
Given that we ate similar meals of similar quality in Ireland this week at much lower prices, the Pier Head is way over-priced.
Putting cod and sea bass on the menu of a restaurant right beside the Atlantic ocean just doesn't make sense. Much more originality is needed given the possibilities the sea has to offer.
Tiger prawns are not Irish and to see such a heavy (and dated) Asian fusion influence in the menu offer was perplexing. very little imagination in the menu.
Excellent brown bread. The food was cooked well and portions were generous.
Wine list ok.
D. L.
Had a lunch here on 1st April 2019. Quality of food was excellent as was the service. I had rib of lamb and my wife a stuffed chicken breast with mozzarella and sun dried tomato accompanied by double fried chips and vegetables. Tasted really good. Kinvarra a good day out with a visit to nearby Dunguaire castle
D. W.
I don't go out to restauranys very often but when i do i go for quality and the pier head never fail to impress. Exceptional food and service. They also have their own farm so meat is their own and guaranteed fresh. Seafood is also caught locally.
J. O.
The food is good but service was poor. Sides for main course came 5 to 10 mins after the fish and the fish was not hot as a result. On the expensive side as well.
B. S.
Excellent bar on the harbour front, Kinvarra.. Traditional sailing boats moored nearby. There was an impromptu concert with two accordians and banjo going on in the bar when we arrived. Excellent looking upscale restaurant next door but we did not eat.
P. B.
Fantastic meal for 5 ... Will definitely return again!
T. E.
We ate here once on a driving tour of Ireland and we still talk about it, absolutely fabulous. The seafood platter is to die for, the "biggest" and best bucket of mussels I have ever had and my wife still drools over the clam chowder.
Pity they don't deliver to Liverpool, England.
M.
Had wonderful Crab Claws absolutely great.
Nice quiet place, looks out onto the water, with boats moored in the bay. Slightly breezy that day, but was very relaxing.
S. F.
Looks nice, but mostly people age 45+ in there.
K. M.
Enjoyed the food untill I got home and was quite sick. Was the only place I had eaten that day so I can only guess it was the fish dish I had. Apart from that the staff were welcoming and it's located in a great spot over looking the harbor
M. T.
Beautiful restaurant with very tasty food
D. S.
We got there late in the evening due to sightseeing and driving all over the place, they had recently closed the kitchens but still found some options to get us some food and take care of us. They were very pleasant and the food was wonderful, (we had the squash soup).
f. c.
Very nice place great pint of Guinness....! Lovely atmosphere and great views...! Didn't have food but what I seen being served looked fabulous..!
C. L.
2nd time there...very good
K. B.
A cosy corner in Kinvara
T. R.
Nice ambiance, good service, superb wine and great seafood! The restaurant has a good ambiance and although it's fairly big, the service is quick and correct. Shortly after you get seated, you get free bread and water. Unfortunately (it seems to be a trend in Ireland) they missed the opportunity to serve the butter in a nice way, since it was still in its package. A missed chance. The mussels as a starter is almost a main. So much mussels...uuuf. Quality and taste were good, not exceptional. In my opinion the mains were served too quick after the starters, but the fish was very nicely prepared. Taste was exceptionally good and the sauces are also great. The vegetables and jacket potatoes were a bit bland and boring. A bit more attention to these parts and it would have been a perfect meal. If you're up for red wine, I absolutely recommend the 2009 Chianti classico riserva. It's is a great wine. Overall dining experience is very good.
M. K.
Starters were extremely good. Battered squid and seafood chowder.
Mains were acceptable, just.
Salmon served with a baked potato with signs of rot and lemon sole that was over cooked. Promote the starter chef demote the main.
Coupled with the premium prices and small servings I honestly don't know would I visit again.
M. M.
Fantastic food staff really friendly... and if u get to sit upstairs the view of kinvara harbour is just awesome.
E. S.
Pretty good seafood. Nice location by the water.
C. M.
Stayed In kinnvara. Had a Meal here and would recommend it. Entertainment was fantactic.
D. L.
Fresh and delicious seafood. Wished we had come for dinner because the lunch seafood platter was a cold one and different from the dinner one. still yummy though (especially the smoked salmon and crab claws). The muscles are AWESOME!
D. P.
Had two orders rack of lamb. It was ok. Nothing special. When paying the bill with my credit card I wasn’t asked if I wanted to pay in Euros. I was charged in dollars with an up charge. I wouldn’t return for another meal. Overpriced.
A. R.
Lovely location service was brilliant the starters were lovely but we got the sirloin steak for main and was chewy and could of been presented a littel nicer for the price,
Will be back again to try something different..
B. Q.
Better than ever, Mike and the team have adjusted with so many considerate changes, the outdoors area is really comfortable, and as always the food is excellent.
E. M.
Slow and service was slow. Very disappointed. A fish restaurant with few choices.
ρ. ρ. I. ئ.
Great food and excellent service
R. K.
Very tasty fresh food (especially sea food) at reasonable prices (not really cheap, though). Kid's menu with three popular options like fish fingers or chicken goujons. Very friendly staff. I recommend.
D. B.

The warm seafood plate was delicious 😍🍽️👌👍 and our waiter was very nice with us and helpful.
They loose one star, because it was bit unorganized and the waitresses were bit rude.
R. S.
Busy but good food and service
S. O.
Good food, fabulous location with picture postcard views from every window.
Friendly multinational staff. Could not recommend this place highly enough.
D. H.
A random stop that turned into a delight. Sat out on the patio and had some excellent seafood chowder and mussels (was also all gluten free). Service was pretty slow but was worth it.
S. P.
This is a hidden gem of Ireland. Our group stopped here on a whim and were so pleasantly surprised at the quality of food. The town is so quaint as well. Very glad we stumbled upon this place!
K. M.
Lovely restaurant in lovely village, steak to die for but the thing that got me was home made brown soda bread they serve as appetizers... Never have better bread in my life!
A. K.
Lovely seafood and very pleasant staff!
P. K.
Food excellent, if a little pricey...quaint surroundings...
C. E.
Beautiful view and tasty mussels.
K. B.
After visiting the Cliffs of Moher, we were hungry and looking for a place to eat on the way back to Galway. The pub on the main road was full of interesting people and just getting ready for an evening of traditional Irish music, but we were after food, so we headed down to The Pier Head which we had spotted earlier while looking at Dunguaire Castle.
The Pier Hear Bar & Restaurant is delightful. We ordered the local mussels which are superb. It's not a traditional pub but it's very popular, the food is very good and the beer is fresh. Recommended.
K. M.
We only stopped here for a drink and we sat outside in the smoking area we were served quickly at the bar and were able to find seating outside no problem I have also heard very good things about the food, highly recommend if you around the Kinvarra area to go in for a drink or for food

Food was very good but service was moderate with our waiter clearly not having been trained - like so so many these days.
T. W.
Amazing customer service. We arrived in town late and they were closed but still opened up part of their kitchen. It was an inconvenience to them but were beyond nice and helpful.
