D. Y.We we're passing on a trip out for the day and decided to call in for a meal. Phoned ahead before entering and staff were friendly and gave us the go ahead to come and dine. We were not dissapointed. All you hear positively about the food is true. Was wholesome well presented and plentiful. Staff although busy made sure we were well taken care of. The warm homely atmosphere within a place displaying a lot of history was and will be remembered. A return visit is definitely on the cards.

d. h.Stopped off here for a meal while travelling back from the north west. We Googled places to eat in Birr and this pub and restaurant came out tops. It was a little hard to find but that it made it all the better. When we arrived the staff were very friendly and efficient and couldn't be more helpful. As one of our party was vegetarian, we had to ask for an omelette which was not on the menu. It was made for us without any bother and it arrived in double quick time as did the other meal. All the food was top class and the staff were very attentive. Overall a great experience and great food. As it was outdoor dining, we would have loved to sample the dessert menu, but there was thunder, lightening and heavy rain in the area just as we finished our meal. We had to run to our car for cover. We will be back to try the full course shortly.

Food and service was of the most excellent quality. Great to come back to the Thatch.. after a long assence. This resteraunt is a jewel in the Crown of County Offaly. If you haven't visited this establishment yet ,do it as soon as you can and enjoy the experience. You won't regret it.

A.A satellite village of Birr, Crinkle is just off the N62 and is home of the 200 year old Thatch Bar & Restaurant. A great place for a hot toddy by the fire.
Free parking is available at the back of the premises and a few spots at the front.
Servers were fast and courteous
Coffee machine was broken so ordered tea for two.
Lunch menu was good ordered Bacon & Cabbage which was disappointing, large serving but on the cooler side. We weren't charged for those meals.
They also offer dinner after 7pm
d. l.Our family had an amazing meal last Friday the 1st of October for our mum's birthday and it was absolutely amazing. Service and the food was out of this world.

M. D.Very cozy yet reassuringly sanitary, all staff very covid compliant and some of the most polite staff I have every experienced. Drinks were wonderful although the guiness was a tad on the pricey side at 4.70 for a pint, however it was definitely worth it and the gin came well presented. Food was 10/10, the salmon was absolutley perfect with a lovely butter and lemon sauce, served with lovley mash and veg, the beef burger had a lovley beef taste and the chips were soft and crunchy served with a lovley fresh salad. Selection of food was also great especially the desserts which were decent. Overall a great experience and would definitely go again.

J. T.This is a quaint pub and restaurant. Won numerous awards and you can see why. Spotlessly clean, roomy and well laid out. Service is excellent with plenty of polite friendly staff. The food is varied but mostly traditional. Always delicious with generous portions. Well worth leaving room for one of the great choice of Desserts. On the outskirts of Birr and you will probably need to reserve a table but worth it.

C. E.Pleasant pub and restaurant, the staff and owner were great craic. We were late to our table but they were very accommodating after we called ahead. Food was tasty and were served promptly. Good value for duck, crab claws, prawns and steak, so much side vegetables we couldn't eat it all. Great spot to have a few drinks after with a real fire.

G. H.The Thatch is a real gem in Birr. It's lovely thatch roof building provides a wonderful atmosphere for anyone lucky enough to call by. We regularly recommend that guests of weddings have meals there around their wedding as it is a super spot to catch up with friends and family over a lovely meal.
