Reviews of Byrne & Woods Bar & Restaurant

Nice and cozy place, the food was delicious and served quite fast. The parking behind the restaurant was full, however, there were many tables available when we entered. We had to drive around to find a parking space down the street.
B. K.
Fabulous food, great location, lovely views and great service from very friendly and efficient staff. I rarely leave a review but too good not to. Highly recommend and we will be back. Thank you.
S. T.
Nice location. Excellent service. Well priced. The kitchen was a little slow but our server explained the situation before we ordered.
Lovely food, well cooked and nicely presented. Our children compared the burgers to our home bbq ones. Tasty!!
Soup of the day was delicious and served with lightly toasted bread.
The only complaint with the chicken wings was there were so many of them. The sauce was spicy, nice, and the wings had crisp coating.
J. F.
Well presented inside and out.
Spotlessly clean.
Nice pint of porter promptly served.
Had Sunday roast beef.
Beef a bit on the bland side but super veg and gravy. Would recommend.
Good friendly attentive service.
S. K. W.
Great food, friendly atmosphere and even in these strange Covid times they still manage to keep the excellent service.
Y. S.
Stylish local place with delicious food and green feeling. Great tasting beef and decent portion size, amazing potatoes and mash! Located on a relatively quiet road, has own carpark. Overall highly recommend and will come again.
K. M.
Lovely place and staff but disappointed with the food. Frozen chips and pretty sure frozen fish too. No effort made at all.

Why have I not been here before. We went for a walk in Glendalough and had a delicious lunch in Byrne & Woods. The pub is beautiful, the food was fantastic, staff very good at their job. Would reccomend the food but would also be perfect for a drink inside or outside. Well done Byrne & Woods keep up the good work.
K. M.
Very nice spot in Wicklow mountains. Food was very tasty and had a homey feel. There was good seasonal ooptions. The saff was very friendly and the interior is cozy. Especially nice on a cold winter day / evening due to a big fireplace. Overall a very nice experience. Would recommend.
S. T.
It was the first time I hiked in Ireland. I and my boyfriend walked for over two hours from the cottage we stayed to Loch Dan in such cold day and we got to the point we had to have FOOD and Guinness...! Fortunately we found this place on the way and had best Guinness and lovely food!!! Came back here after few months. Love this restaurant:)
D. W.
Great food, friendly attentive staff, decent local pint
F. C.
Lovely food and nice staff 😅
E. N. A.
Lovely family Sunday lunch spot in the picturesque village of roundwood. Traditional but tasty; pork belly was tantelizingly tender, crispy top & lovely fluffy mash. View from carpark is stunning, they should defo extend the veranda for outdoor dining experience!
T. R.
Great food, fast service and nice sheltered outdoor seating options.
S. C.
Have dined in Byrne and Woods a few times both for takeaway and outdoor dining and I could not fault anything. The food and service is consistently exceptional. High on quality and taste. I would recommend the roast of the day or the triple cooked chips. Definitely believe it is the best restaurant in Wicklow without a doubt!!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
J. P.
Lovely spot, good food and nice staff. Everything you'd want in a bar and restaurant. Worth a visit!
A. C.
Food was Excellent, staff very friendly and good. Very pleasant lunch in Nice outdoor atmosphere
F. M.
Had lovely sunday brunch today. Pork belly was savage. Place very cosy. Will be back.
F. H.
Weather was beautiful, so nice to sit outside and share a meal and a few drinks. Staff were great and so was the food.
G. B.
Food and drinks were excellent. A bit pricey but we enjoyed it. Service was excellent
J. C.
Stopped on the way back from a bike ride. Lovely burgers! Efficient service
K. M.
Exquisite restaurant with very good service. Defenitely a good place to have a gastronomical meal with Irish products. Highly recommanded !
j.
Beautiful place and setting in the Wicklow mountains. Excellent food and the staff are top class. Would highly recommend it and will be going back again.

The Scampi & Chips on the weekend are out of this world. Amazing service. Perfect spot to refuel after doing Djouce, Victors way or another walk
M. W.
Great food and lovely staff who looked after us very well!
L. G.
The food seems to be simple, but it's extremely tasty. Both the fish soup and the bangers match very well with Guinness.
S. C.
Amazing fresh gourmet food. The lamb chops, fresh cod with parsley and Baileys cheesecake were all beyond expectations. Loved it!
C. K.
OMG had the most amazing meal tonight. Food was fabulous as was the service. Definitely recommend
T. Q.
Food was amazing, nicest lamb burger I have ever had and the portion sizes were huge. Sons wings were delicious, wife's fish very tasty and seafood chowder my daughter had she said was gorgeous. And the deserts omg. Definitely go back and recommend anyone to go there too.
D. l.
Beautiful, comfortable place with excellent food
B. m.
Great service, lovely atmosphere and tasty food. Would highly recommend!
N. S.
Very good food, well present. Short menu but its during covid-19 so fair enough. Service was nice although did not collect dishes while were ready to take. Soft drinks are too expensive, for a 3/4 glass of coke I've paid €2.70.. joke. Restaurant very nice furniture and good music, not too boring not too dancy.
S. B.
Dropped in on way from Clara Lara from Dublin and food was fab and staff all so nice and couldn't of helped enough defo be back xx
S. M.
Visited the beer garden for a few bevvies and had some chips as snacks. Nice atmosphere, good service and the sun played it's part!
J. E.
We honestly weren't expecting much when we decided to stop here for a late lunch but we were very pleasantly surprised. My crispy pork belly lived up to its name and husband said his lamb was some of the best he's ever had. Very decently priced for the quality and quantity of food as well, with lovely service to boot.
S. S.
Great service! Lovely food. The prawns are super recommended, the risotto needs to have less cream and more parmesan. Definitely a lovely setting, we really enjoyed the environment.
K. P.
Amazing food and great service!
p. f.
Excellent food and service. Everyone enjoyed the food.
J. M.
Lovely food, staff and atmosphere..
S. “. D.
Nice place, comfy & warm! Staff where polite & the food was tasty! The only thing was id expect a slightly bigger portion for the price! An extra bit of mash and veg would of made a big difference! I would return!
J.
disappointed with our chicken and duck wings as they were quite dry and over cooked. Service was very good & staff friendly. Mains were much better and good sized portions.
A. S.
Popped into Byrne & Woods after a long hill walk. Pleasently surprised by the cosy bar and restaurant which looks beautiful. Probably the best seafood chowder we have had for a long long time. Looking forward to going back to try the rest of the menu which looked terrific. 👍
P. C.
Lovely lunch out side in the sun shine. Staff great food delicious
M. P.
Called in here for lunch in the bar after a morning in the hills. I ordered the chowder and wasn't disappointed, the portion plus brown bread was exactly what was needed. The service and atmosphere was also good. Would definitely call again.
R. E.
Byrne & Woods has to be the best bar/restaurant in Wicklow and South Dublin.
Beautiful surroundings, ultra friendly staff and, best of all, the most delicious food I've had this year.
I had the Seafood Linguine special which was out of this world.
My partner had Fish Goujons with what she called 'ships and red sauce' - Chips and Ketchup. Well, she was only three! Highly recommended.
T. M.
A wonderful restaurant in Roundwood, from the moment we made our reservation to the time we left this establishment we were looked after. I don't review places I visit but I feel this is a good day to start!! Our server was so friendly and helpful, always smiling and nothing was a problem for her, even though we were a table of 12!! Our food was delicious. I had the Chicken wings to start they were finger licking delicious, the sauce for these is made in house, I complimented this sauce and was given a tub to take home! I had the linguine Fruit De Mer for my mains, that too was mouth watering good! Everyone was delighted with their food. The prices are very reasonable.
We were celebrating our son's birthday (which we didn't tell the restaurant upon booking) they over heard us, our server brought out a dessert with a candle and along with other members of staff and the owner they sang happy birthday to him! I highly recommend a visit and to make a reservation it seems to be a very busy spot. We will definitely be back, I feel it will be a regular date night location for my husband and I!
T. C.
Service was a little quiet. Wasn't maybe vegetarian options. The restaurant décor was very aesthetically pleasing. Food came promptly. Wild mushroom risotto was a little oily but tasted lovely. Had strawberry and coconut cheesecake but was runny in a glass compote (?). Almost tasted like strawberry mousse. Overall the food was a little disappointing but the staff and place are lovely.
M. F.
Very pleasant restaurant. Lovely food. The goat salad was so tempting that I didn't even take time to take a picture before starting savoring it.
Waitresses very nice and efficient.
Thank you for this lovely evening.
C. C.
Fantastic food. Excellent service. Friendly staff. Strongly we will go back.
A. A.
Great service, friendly staff, delicious food
P. P.
Outdoor seating! Definitely more on the pricey end, but still reasonable prices for dinner (15 for a main). They have vegetarian option, dishes are creative spins on traditional Irish cuisine, and the desserts were quite lovely as well. Great place to stop on your way to Glendalough!
A. C.
Really fantastic Meal in Byrne and Woods this evening. Food was excellent and totally socially distant. The three of us will certainly be eating here again.
j. O.
Not sure what the fuss is about..... heard great reviews but the food was perfectly average and the waiting staff were graceless. The deserts looked nice but we decided not to stay. We decided coffee at home would be more pleasant.
S. Ó.
Its changed.Good food & service.Staff are lovely but are not as alert to service as before. price is a little high for the cheaper meats like pork , hake and chicken .Rib eye is a little over priced for what it is and its size. The pork belly is never ever as described on the menu, crispy sells this for me, but myself and a friend both had this and the skin was more gelatine like and soggy on our previous visit.portions are reasonable.still the best eating experience in roundwood in my opinion.5 stars only it's changed a lot since my earlier visits
J. E. R.
Very pleasant place with a wonderful food.
B. D.
We love this place, 5* food service and decoration for a decent price. Word is getting around of their quality service so it's getting busier and harder to get a table. Well worth a spin. And a roasting hot stove to keep you warm in the winter gives it the perfect setting.
E. M.
After a long walk in Glendalough, we came across this cute spot on our drive back. Fresh, perfectly seasoned, delicious bar food - bangers & mash exceptional! Very friendly and accomodating staff!
A. B.
Friendly staff, great outdoor seating with lovely veiws
b. c.
Such a hidden gem, ideal spot for after a walk or for a comfy and cosy atmosphere . The interior is fabulous , the staff (young ladies) were so friendly and attentive. I'd highly recommend the Chowder and brown bread accompanied with a glass of red wine .
A. c.
Great pub food, staff are exceptional
M. K.
We've just had a delicious meal in this restaurant. The staff were very helpful and friendly both to us and to each other creating a relaxed and happy environment . Prices were very reasonable . Toilets were very high standard of hygiene .
S. H.
Lovely food. Great outdoor dining.
m. d.
Me and my family frequently visit this bar/restaurant whenever we make a visit to Ireland. The bangers and chips is sure to make it the kids number one priority when returning to Roundwood.
There is a great calm family feel and it is truly now a tradition in our family and we invite all our friends to come her too.
K. P.
Lovely quality food and nice ambience. Grayfish & tiger prawns starter was delicious as well as sticky toffee pudding cake. BF mentioned he had the best fish & chips of all times.
J. P.
Had a lovely meal and the spice shrimps as starter where delicious. Friendly staff
J. M.
My parents owned this pub when it it was called Lakeview House in the 80s and I have such lovely memories from when I was younger. It was so special to go back and have such a positive experience, beautiful food stunning decor and such friendly staff
I. B.
Great food, good service, good atmosphere, very accomodating to our little one, only thing separate menu bar/Restaurant can't have pub food in restaurant. But pub is great to eat.
Great job
K. S.
Service really good, food could be better (quite greasy/slimy battered haddock). Overall nice ambiance and okay price/ambiance.
D. p.
If you are ever around please do not miss this place. Great food with excellent service (bar and restaurant staff members)
Such a relaxing place.
Also a large parking at a back
C. S.
Dropped into Byrne & Woods yesterday after a hike in the Wicklow Mountains. Had a lovely meal in the restaurant, served by very friendly staff. I will definitely be back here the next time I am in Wicklow.
A. W.
It's not often I return to a place regularly for the same dish, but I keep returning for there pork belly dish. The first positive it's a square bit and not a small slice some places only give, and it is delicious and not too much fat but perfectly cooked and spooky delicious and also you get veg and mash with it and they are perfectly cooked, I am a big eater and Byrne's and woods trailer for this since I always order another portion of veg and mash and there is no extra charge for more. In the food industry there is too many places are more about max profit that the customer, we eat to get full.and not walk out hungry. and burns and woods shows the way it should be done. Feeding people is number one priority on there list and still making it delicious. Well done guys. And the pork belly meal is worth €14. Fantastic
S. C.
Excellent food. Good atmosphere. Would be lovely if there was an outside dining area apart from out the front.
C. J.
At byrne and woods we got a warm welcome from the friendly staff and experienced bar man. My husband is in the business of building high end pubs so we have our standards and byrne and woods met all of our expectations. The food was excellent, both the wine and Guinness were excellent , our children were made feel welcome and the pub is well layed out with a great atmosphere , we will definitely be back again soon and wouldn't hesitate in recommending a visit to anyone looking for good food in Roundwood !
A. P.
Beautiful food. ..snack menu extremely good value they cater for coeliac staff are attentive and helpful. ..I would highly recommend this restaurant /bar. .ooh spotlessly clean.
T. B.
Great food at one of the highest pub in the country. Food at a restaurant level not classic pub food. Nice atmosphere, with the firewood in one corner. Great post hike location to warm up.
G. G.
Middle of the road. The expectations were high considering the chef won a Michelin star between 2014 and 2015, but the food was a notch up the food in a pub. Even presentation wise I felt it was quite underwhelming. A bit expensive for what it is.
R. o. D.
An outstanding restaurant.
I met a fellow in Wicklow a few weeks ago who recommended this place.
The reviews looked good, so I thought I'd give it a try.
A beautiful, sunny day for a drive, I arrived mid-afternoon.
Great wait staff, they really seemed to care.
The pork belly was as good as advertised. Certainly the best pork belly in Ireland, but it's not on a lot of menus.
But with my penchant for Korean foods, pork belly is a staple and a tasty one at that.
I asked for the pork with just the potatoes since I like my vegetables first AND sometimes the vegetables put too much liquid in the plate with my meat.
Vegetables were nothing to write home about.
Pork belly was wonderfully done. Extremely tender with a tasty skin that could have been crisper, but wasn't probably because of the dollop of apple chutney on top.
The chutney was tasty, but next time, I'll ask for it on the side and probably tell them I want really crispy skin.
The mashed potatoes underneath were very good. I ate them all.
I'd noticed that at least half the diners were getting the Panna Cotta for dessert. Usually I don't get dessert since it doesn't go with my wine, but seeing how popular it was, coupled with how good my dinner was, I felt I should try it.
It was devine. Now, I seldom have Panna Cotta. So I'm not an expert, like I am for donuts, but this dessert was sublime.
Perfectly tasty, with a hint of vanilla. Not too sweet, just wonderful. I can not conceive how it could be better.
So, in sum, I'd you're in Ireland any length of time, take a day, evening, come down to Roundwood, and have the pig and Panna cotta.
You will thank me.
E. M.
The staff are lovely and friendly but the food was not great. There was no atmosphere and a bit of music might have made it feel more relaxed.
F. L.
Staff were very friendly. Wings were delicious but mains wasn't great. Dessert was fab!

(Translated) The place is lovely, the people are super friendly, the food is very careful and delicious. You can practically not put any but. Both the hamburger, as the soup, as the chicken toast, as the children's menu. All large and well prepared. They serve fast. And although it is not cheap you can eat well for about € 50. Highly recommended.
