D. E.Unbelievable service, we availed of the B&B + evening meal. The quality of the evening meals were exceptional and the service was top class. Service on the breakfast was so good but the full Irish could have been a small bit fuller, my partner had a selection form the cold buffet and poached eggs, which she said were delish. Would definitely recommend on service, price and cleanliness.

D.Just popped in for soup and their delicious seeded bread with my family the soup was fantastic but I was disappointed with the bread it was stale which was a shame cause normal you would just go for it after me telling my daughter and son it was best ever. But still worth a visit and we are all allowed have one off day , I will be back.
k. b.Fabulous room, easy access from car park, huge bed, fabulous bedding, great coffee/tea with coffee machine, only downside as its winter the room is much too cold as the heating isn't on for any long period of time, in the morning not until we'll after I got up.
m. c.This place never disappoints. We stayed here at least 4 -5 times when hotel was The Harlequin and couldn't get back to the newly re-branded hotel because if covid. Fabulous as always. Friendly and helpful staff from Lisa at reception who upgraded us to courtyard room because we were previous guests to all servers in restaurant last night and this morning. Nothing is too much trouble. Was also very impressed with level of sanitation throughout the hotel. Have nothing but good things to say about the food as well. Excellent as always. Will definitely be back .. hopefully before the year is out
T. C.From arrival to departure we were looked after so well. Our room was spacious and had all our needs.A special thanks to Loretto, Edgar and Eli they were brilliant, the food was delicious breakfast and dinner superb every night. We will be back for sure.

The food was absolutely fantastic the breakfast the whole thing was amazing we are checking out tomorrow morning which is the 19th September 2021 and we will be 100% returning to this hotel again in the near future
E. M.Stayed here July 2021, great hotel with very friendly and helpful staff. After a mix up with breakfast booking the receptionist was very helpful and accommodating in sorting it out for us. The rooms were clean and spacious, and the hotel lobby has a nice contemporary feel to it. In the restaurant I had the seafood chowder which was lovely and I would definitely recommend. Only downside was the soggy brioche bun on my burger due to too much thousand island sauce (already comes with burger), everything else on the burger tasted great and it didn't need as much sauce as was on it. Otherwise a really nice hotel in a good location and I would stay here again.

We arrived on Friday night and welcomed by the wonderful and friendly lisa on reception desk by far the nicest one from the bunch 🥰
She was very accommodating and surprised us with a complimentary strawberries and chocolate to the room for my partners birthday.
The food in the restaurant siars was amazing! Recomened the goats cheese bonbons to anyone! I found my love of goats cheese here 🤣
Over all a fabulous stay!

(.This Hotel is a stunning revelation, modern tastefully decorated and furnished Hotel, reception staff are exceptionally efficient, friendly and mind blowingly fast in organising anything the guest's require from house keeping, at your room door before you get back to your room, the Resturant is a pure joy to visit and eat in, the food is of stunning quality, the waiting staff are the very best I have ever experienced, fast, efficient and extremely friendly, breakfast is also a joyous event that has to be savoured and throughly enjoyed, everything about this Hotel is purely guest guided, it starts with the fantastic reception staff ( Lisa ) that make your stay a memorable one. Rooms are all exceptionally clean and well appointed, tea / coffee facilities with hairdryer are in the room, housekeeping are friendly and efficient, nothing is a problem, requests are dealt with immediately, everything about this Hotel ticks each and every box you can think of, truly, my recent stay is and was a memorable one, well worth subsequent booking / stay.
Castlebar is a beautiful town with the abundant local amenities in walking distance of The Ellison Hotel.
This Hotel is a definite must visit and stay, very competitively priced, every penny is so worth it. Enjoy...

L. A.I am giving the hotel only 3 stars because it's really a 3 star hotel. The pictures are certainly deceiving since they re mostly of the renovated part of the hotel, but not of the halways and lift which desperately need a revamp. The rooms are not great either since everything is at least 10+years old. The TV was extremely outdated and took about 5min to come on. Luxury toiletries is also an overstatement (has anyone heard of Karre? Yep, me neither.).
Some positive aspects: the restaurant serves amazing food. Pricey, but very nice. Also, the staff we met were fantastic, both receptionists and waiters. That being said, we don't think we'll come back. Defo not a 4 star hotel!

J. F.Checked in Saturday afternoon. Arrived and the staff were extremely helpful. It was my parents birthday. We were there to celebrate with family. The gave them a lovely room and I asked to leave stuff in there room for them and it was no problem. We had dinner in the restaurant the food was excellent and the service from the staff there was brilliant.
Rooms were lovely and clean. Beds were nice and comfy. I definitely will be back.

Breakfast was 14.00 euro and for two rashers and scrambled eggs n coffee I felt was a little pricey. I wasn't that hungry and didn't want the juice, fruit, yogurt, n cereal - which was included in the price. As it was table service and not a buffet, I believe you should only pay for what you eat. However it would not deter me from staying there again. Close to all amenities and easy to find.

P. K.We got a complimentary room upgrade to a suite, which was a really nice gesture from them. Room was big and clean with plenty facilities to enjoy (big TV, big Bath, dressing gown, slippers etc). Also the hotel has taken safety measures for Covid which made us feel safe there. A small comment for the management, as a future improvement, it would be great if there was more soundproofing i.e. doors and windows.

M. C.Excellent value. Free parking. Lovely bright foyer. Mainly white furniture. The corridors have a lovely striking art deco design complimented by silver mirrors and art deco furniture. Staff pleasant and food good. Unfortunately there was no separate bar or lounge. The foyer served as the restaurant bar area and thus I felt it a bit drafty.
There was no hot food available after 9pm only sandwiches.
For excellent value I would recommend this nice attractive hotel.

C.We had booked the Ellison through a tird party site but when we got to the hotel they told us that they were actually closed & had emailed the company we booked with sevral times but they hadnt replied. They still let us stay anyway. The kitchen was closed so there was no breackfast but the hotel was lovely. Lisa & Marie were particularly nice & helpful & we still enjoyed our night there in Castlebar.

L. S.I think this place was recently redone (used to be the Harlequin Hotel). Some of the “quirky” parts of the old hotel still remain (colorful carpets and upholstery) but is very nice. No thermostat, but you can turn up and down the radiator. Free parking which is nice. Close to two large stores and a McDonalds, and not far from down town.

B. M. L.Nice hotel, just one negative comment to make and it is about the abuse of the disabled parking spaces outside front door of the hotel. When I brought this to the attention of the reception staff, I was advised that disabled spaces were available within multiple storage car park on each level. I said I found that out when there were commercial vehicles parked on the spaces at the front door. Excuse given was that they couldn't fit into car park. My response was that they didn't fit into disabled bays either.

A. M.The family stayed at the Harlequin over the easter weekend. The staff were very friendly & helpful. The Hotel was spotless. I liked the idea that you could park the car on the same floor as your room.. very convenient for transporting luggage. The only negative - we were told the bar was closing at 12AM & it lacked a little atmosphere in the evening becsuse there was no music
J. G.Stayed in the suite. It was nice but nothing special. I am in two minds because the price of room is fantastic but it was just a little lackluster. Just so many little things ...
The suite had the smallest bathroom, with very little that made it stand out.
You got a full size kitchen, but nothing to eat with or off.
The couch was in a strange position for the TV, we moved it and the room made better sense and didn't disturb the layout to much.
The room decor was dated, but the size of the room was fantastic.
The TV was the standard channels, after seeing other hotels... Netflix was the way and making the Harlequin feel like a budget hotel.
The internet required a password and gave you a count down timer of when it expires. Not needed, it just leaves you with a everything is on a budget feeling.
Breakfast was a buffet which left a steamed taste on everything. So breakfast was fried and then left in industrial steam warmers. Something that spoils a full Irish breakfast. That being said it does soften the bacon, so it's a bit of a taste thing.
The reception and hotel areas has a over the top whiteness and brightness to its decor. It just gives of a sterile feeling with little warmth. It's a little harsh on the eyes. It's a strange look, and unsure if it's a bad idea or I am too old for this modern look.
Staff is very friendly and courteous. Cannot fault them in anyway.
A great hotel, but it leaves an underwhelming feeling. It shouldn't be like this ... but for the price it's fantastic stay. I guess I see so much more potential and want to say that this review should be read In a positive light.

S. S.If I judged this place just on the buffer breakfast I would not eat here. The eggs had Sat for so long they were rubber. There was no cheese selection and fruit salad wasn't a nice mixture of fruit. Very disappointing. I don't eat the meat so I can't comment on that.
But I decided to try their dinner and it was excellent. I cone here on business and the food from menu go lunch and dinner is 5stars. Too bad their breakfast isn't.

The hotel is easy to spot from traffic, though one must take the roundabout to enter in most situations, as it is only possible to enter from one direction of traffic. From the entrance, one enters a car park and takes a ticket - this can and is validated by reception to avoid the 5 Euro cost of parking. From there, one can make a left to go to the hotel or a right to go to the connected theatre. Then one has to either go down the stairs or the lift to get to the ground floor for check-in. There are two computers for check-in. Check-in is quick and easy, with cards that let the guest onto the floors and into their rooms using chip technology similar to that in a credit or debit card.
The hotel is centrally located in Castlebar, right across from a petrol station and a McDonald's. The building is attached to what appears to be a set of shops, is across the roundabout from a Tesco, and just a block away from the town shops. Across the street is the Mayo Peace Park and a lovely walking/jogging park around Lough Lannagh. The surrounding area is beautiful as well with plenty of dairy and horse farms.
The rooms are where the hotel goes wrong. The view is not good, no matter where you are in the hotel. The guest is either looking at the parking lot and the theatre or at the roadway, petrol station, and McDonald's.The beds are noticeably cheap, and there are odd combinations in the rooms. My wife and I stayed in a room together and we were placed in a room with a twin bed and a full bed. Both beds were on wheels that did not lock. The television requires luck to turn on. The bathrooms are built for giants. (I am 1.7 meters and my feet wouldn't touch the ground fully on the toilet) The tub is the same way, which requires quite the stretch to get in and out. The water pressure is excellent and the temperature gauge on the hot water makes the shower easy. BE CAREFUL: The towel rack is also a towel warmer, so it gets extremely hot.

- Wants to be a 5-star hotel, but feels like a 2-star hotel.
- Hotel wants you to make reservations for their restaurant, despite there being few people there at any time.
P. M.Incredibly friendly & helpful Staff. Great location for exploring Mayo. Westport/Achill & Croagh Patrick just a short drive away. Rooms were perfect. Beds were very comfortable. Parking is free & made very easy. Tesco, Aldi, McDonald's all super close.

M.We've stayed in the Ellison Hotel a few times as the Harlequin and more resently as the Ellison, its nice and clean, food is good, with good selection for breakfast, it is very close to the town centre so easy to walk to shops and restaurants, it has multi story parking, there an EV fast charger across the road beside McDonald's and a petrol station.
