We came here as a group after a long day of traveling from Waterford and spending time in Cork. We had a late dinner at this precious little spot ran by a sweet couple.
The place itself is just precious. From the teal decor to the modern yet comfortable seating to the plates on the wall and chalkboard specials. Everything just screamed "come in and stay for a bit".
We were a group of 6 and shared quite a few starters: the wild game paté with a delicious chutney, mussels, and lamb kidneys. The paté was the table favorite. The kidneys were very good. The mussels we're good but I wanted more broth and felt they could have steamed another minute.
For dinners a couple of us had the salmon that was in a bed of the most delicious sauce. The salmon was perfectly cooked but could have use just a touch more seasoning. Another had the mussels and crayfish fettuccini. It came in a red sauce that wasn't too heavy. The pasta tasted fresh and was perfectly cooked as was the seafood. The veal was also delicious and I loved that it came with small orange slices that somehow worked perfectly with the dish. Hiweverc, my favorite dish on the table was probably the pork chop that came with cabbage in a rosemary gravy. This dish was just so perfectly done and felt so Irish but with a modern flair. J thought it was just perfection. We were given a family style side of carrots and potatoes that everyone enjoyed. They seemed to be cooked in honey or something sweet that made them taste almost carmelized. So good.
We ended the night with apple pie and the ginger crumble. The apple pie was very good, cinnamony and moist. Crusty and warm. However, everyone agreed the ginger crumble stole the show. It was served over a mixed berry compote type dish and came with a ceam sauce you poured on top that complimented it perfectly. This dish should be a menu staple and never leave so long as they can help it.
The restaurant is BYOB so we stopped at the market down the street for wine. The server corked the wines for us and even put the white in a ice bucket to chill for us. He was very sweet and even though it seemed to be only him for the entire (very small) restaurant, he did a great job.
Overall, it was a really enjoyable evening. We weren't rushed and had plenty of time to enjoy our meal. While I do feel there is some room for improvement, I'm giving five stars because I feel I'll leave Ireland with the fondest memories of this sweet spot and wish the owners nothing but sucess.

Just home after fabulous meal. The Market House is one of the best restaurants in West Cork. As well as fabulous food, especially for me as a coeliac, the staff are also excellent. The chef came to me to discuss how he would cook lamb for me, taking into account the fact that I am coeliac. All staff here are friendly and add to your meal. As for value for money, it's difficult to see how any place beat The Market House. Final bit of advice for clients reading my review, don't pass the homemade icecreams for dessert!

Absolutely amazing food, we ate here on Aug 18th as part of our tour of West Cork, we stayed 2 nights in Roscarberry. My wife had booked this place as it looked good online and we were more than pleased that we did. The menu and the food is excellent. We spent 6 days touring West Cork and ate out every night and our meal here was easily the best of all. Every part of the meal from starters to mains and dessert was exceptional. My 1 and only fault was our waitress, she didn't seem the least bit intereested in her job and as we left i wanted to thank Market House for their excellent food but our waitress didn't seem bothered in us or our custom which was unfortunate, but we still left a tip. But anyway i couldn't let this take from my 5 star's rating as the food was so good, so if eating out in Roscarberry you wont find better than Market House Restaurant.

Without a shadow of a doubt the best restaurant in West Cork. Such delicious food made from local produce, food made by talented chefs and served by friendly, professional staff. The most perfect place to meet with your loved ones and share a meal with.

Great restaurant, and food was superb, staff lovely, and food also available for people who may not like meat...only one very small flaw, is air-con needed as it does get worm. But other then that everything was beautifully done. 5/5

Wow. So many places offer meals you could easily cook at home. Not the case here. Really imaginative, but not over elaborate dishes, mostly N. Italian style. Reasonably priced, especially when you factor in BYOB. Lovely interior & exterior lovely location, lovely people. Highly recommended.

Had a lovely time at the Market House. We ate here twice over our long weekend. Food was great, service was good, very friendly and welcoming. Nice atmosphere. Bring your own wine, no corkage. We were very happy with our choice and would return if we were in Rosscarbery.

Excellent. Food hot and no delays between courses. Varied menu. What made it really good was that you could bring your own wine which made a visit very worthwhile. No corkage charge either. Great atmosphere and those waiting on tables were so nice. Reasonably priced.

We booked this restaurant while we were on holiday in West Cork and am I glad that we did. The food was second to none, one of our group is vegetarian and she thought all her birthdays had come together with the choice. This is no way effected we meat eaters we all had different main courses and not one of us were disappointed. The starters were excellent, and as someone who has the sweet tooth the deserts were out of this world. The waiting staff were lovely, I have reached the grand age of 60 this year and I can honestly say this is the best restaurant I have eaten in

My husband and I enjoyed it immensely.
The sea food chowder was in my husband's top 3 and he is has eat it a lot
All food was of high quality and the sauces were to die for
If anyone is ever in Roscarbery this little gem is worth a visit.

Booked a meal for seven on Fri 18th August not knowing what to expect. Probably one of the best meals and best nights out in Ireland in a long time. The food, everyone agreed, could not be bettered. Refined flavours and perfect combinations with ample servings left everyone wondering why this gem is not more widely known. It's only a matter of time. The staff were just what everyone expects of a quality, well-run establishment, friendly and helpful. We had nothing but good things to say about the whole experience. The Chef even gave us one of his secrets(sorry Chef)-but I'm not going to give it away! BYO was in no way minus point.

Had an amazing dinner. The tomato and spinach dumpling starter was innovative and just plain delicious. Hertford slow cooked beef with mushrooms was rich and earthy and my husband who normally hates salad ate all of his just because the contrast in flavors with the beef worked perfectly. His favorite chips he's had on Ireland, and he's a Canadian poutine fan, so very demanding on his potatoes. Loved the pea risotto and crab, another meal with good contrasts. Service was stellar and the restaurant itself was charming and comfortable.

Absolutely fabulous food, great portions and friendly staff. Bring your own bottle of wine, no corkage fee. Thumbs up all the way.

Perfect cafe after a day at the beach. We spent the morning on Warren Strand beach which lies a couple of minutes from Rosscarbery centre. The cafe is well appointed, staff really friendly and the food a really very good. The sandwiches are substantial, almost a meal in itself, and i had the soup of the day alongside. My wife had the beetroot salad and we were both really happy with the quality. Recommended

Food nice felt they could have been more upfront about not swerving alcohol. They waited until after taking the order before they informed us. A very small notice in the window thats hard to see in bad weather conditions. Wasn't only us a Dutch family also thought it odd

For a small irish town not a bad restaurant. The food a bit expensive for what it is. We had the risoto and linguini with asparagus. Both were ok . The mashroon soup was very good.

(Translated) TOP! This nice restaurant is quite inconspicuous in the small town of Rosscarbery. Super friendly service and the food - small menu - but everything was fresh ... and the whole thing at very reasonable prices. Starters between € 5 - 8, main courses € 17 - 25. The fish shown below (monkfish) costs € 23. IMPORTANT TO KNOW HERE - if you want an alcoholic drink with your meal there, you must bring it !! (No kidding!) Either directly opposite from the pub, or above from the supermarket (there are also well-chilled wines).

TOP!

(Translated) A great surprise! The food is succulent and leg of 7 hours is to fall. Not having a license to sell wine, they propose to go to the local supermarket to stock up! Unusual but friendly ... Only downside, the boss is not super smiling, but the rest far outweighs.
(Original)
