Absolutely loved the sandwich here. Chicken Caesar was alright. Decent prices. Would definitely visit again.

Heart of the English Market... Good buzz and hustle.. Always feels alive. Good casual offer, soup and sandwiches etc. Restaurant is an option too if you fancy something more substantial. Restaurant is fresh and local which is great, my only complaint is it is perhaps a little too traditional.

If you are a tourist or even a local who wants to rediscover a true traditional Irish cousine, this is the place to go to. Honored to have had an opportunity to work here and see where the magic happens, I've couldn't recommend it more!
Always fresh ingredients coming from the lovely English Market that is in the same building as this restaurant.
C. L. S.
Really nice Soda bread, crunchy skin with soft bread and balanced herbal flavors. The seafood chowder is very delicious, not too creamy and heavy. Enjoy the food very much. All the pastry looks great. But try to avoid the peak lunch time coz it's super busy.

Come visit here and you'll understand the reason that had this cafe above the historic English market so memorizing. The service was spot on despite of having many patrons (almost full house I would say during my visit). The fish pie I ordered was generous in portion and ingredients were as fresh as you can get from the local markets, seasoned really well and the fish was just flaky and extraordinarily juicy. I would personally come here again even when not craving for food, just so I could enjoy the beautiful architecture of this place.

Lovely location. We sat at the bar and could look at the market down below. Toasted sandwich was divine and restaurant was well run by staff.
K. S.
Deeeeelicious food in a unique setting - we had such lovely food and enjoyed soaking up the atmosphere of the market from the balcony above. I had 2 starters - the smoked salmon and the halloumi; both were exceptional. My partner had the stew and loved it. The homemade breads were also delicious - a real winner of a café/restaurant.
A. L.
Great breakfast, everything tasted lovely.
Friendly staff.
Small table though with big plates.
T. F.
Lovely breakfast nicely cooked no messing about here Eggs, Bacon, Sausages & Toast great. Nice coffee and the staff are lovely and friendly highly recommended.
N. V.
A great gem in the rafters above the market order at the counter as you arrive and wait to be seated. Simple menu using ingredients straight from the market. Not always the faster service to get your food but well worth the wait and does give you time to take surrounding.
C. R.
Great food & Service and very pleasant and helpful staff . Really enjoyed my visit there. Superb quality of food.
D. H.
We had a meal here before Christmas, we had two very tasty meals, soup with homemade soda bread and a sausage and cheese sandwich. The food was excellent, very fresh and warm. The seating is a little bit crowded but we sat on the stools on the balcony and had a great view of the entrance to the market, we really enjoyed it as you could feel the Christmas atmosphere watching the bustling people below. Definitely worth a stop if you are in the Market!
D. C.
Great staff, excellent food. Real, wholesome, honest to goodness food. Catch some light entertainment from time to time with an in-house pianist. Lovely atmosphere in Cork’s famous English Market. You’ll capture the true spirit of Cork here; the famous accent and it’s an excellent vantage point over the traders, their banter and their fayre.
D. H.
Such a tradition in the Cork Market. Staff just so nice and the food is as always gorgeous
D. M. R.
Great restaurant, fresh products are being used and the food is amazing. Prices are more than reasonable and staff is very friendly.
P. S.
Great place for lunch, cozy atmosphere one floor above the English market, friendly staff. Definitely recommend!
張.
Nice price and very delicious! For Michelin 2018, it’s very nice!
G. S.
The atmosphere was great, staff was friendly, the food was good, however seemed over seasoned.
K. H.
Nice place and nice people, service was better than expected but they may consider serving "tapas" or small size plates as many of the visitors are turists, I wanted try their popular tripe and drisheen but wasn't as hungry to order a regular size course.
I. M.
I enjoyed a fantastic full Irish breakfast here. The service was quick and excellent. Very nice people and great coffee. No pictures allowed though, pity since it's such a quaint little cafe, but appreciate that they respect people's privacy.
P. P.
Nice dishes for a quick breakfast or lunch brake. Service needs improvement.
J. B.
Beautiful food and snacks made with locally-produced ingredients. Efficient and friendly staff. Marvellous ambience to be enjoyed in the gallery setting as you can observe the daily bustle of Cork's historic Engish Market.
N. C. E.
A very nice cafe in one of the most iconic places of Cork, The English market. The menu is simple but varied. Sandwiches, soups and a couple of mains are available. My personal favourite: the sea food chowder! You won't be disappointed. Their (soda) bread it's also nice, lovely flavour and texture.
M. B.
The perfect thing to do in Cork on a rainy day. The food has great value for its price and it's a thing I always do when I am in Cork.
M. M. C. G.
lovely lunch in their dining room , great friendly service, perfectly cooked plaice and spuds. Relaxed atmosphere and we all shared a meringue with not overly sweet stewed rhubarb. Nice simple food
J. B.
Really nice food. Pleasant staff. Crowded seating but balcony has a lovely view of the market below. Coffee can be hit or miss but generally good. Definitely recommend.
j. s.
I really like the farmgate cafe as it holds many memories of day trips to cork with my family. I usually order a herbal tea to share with my sister or a pot of normal tea to share with my mum. My mum is gluten free so it is great that there are so many options for her to eat. All in all it is inexpensive and is in the heart of the English market overlooking the busy bustle of people below.
A. E.
Excellent breakfast! The homemade orange juice is amazing.
A. D. D.
Would I Recommend It - ✔ YES
Would I Return - ✔ YES
A fantastic little cafe, located within the Old English Market that serves up:
🔹️Breakfast, Sandwiches, Stews, Soups, and Sweet Snacks.
🔹️The fish chowder is filling and creamy, served warm with a side of bread and butter.
🔹️The carrot cake has a "homemade" charm, simple, moist and very satisfying.
🔹️And, if all you fancy is a drink they've got coffee, tea, fresh squeezed juice, wine and aperitifs.
You order/pay at the counter and your meal is brought to your table for you to enjoy.
S. C.
The farmgate is always packed to the rafters(almost literally, given it's upstairs location with visible rafters on show), and I find it hard to understand why on my twice/three times yearly visits there. Staff try hard to accommodate everybody waiting as quickly as possible and service is surprisingly quick and very pleasant, providing in-house bread immediately after being seated; but the menu is overpriced and uninteresting, with no-nonsense dishes served up without much augmentation for 15-19 euro at lunch. That is supposed to be justified by the fact that everything comes from the market but the fact is you get just as good for cheaper elsewhere. Having said that, there's nothing wrong with the food on the whole but for the odd bland side-dish and the location is great with a good view of market shoppers and nice rustic decor befitting of the historic building it's housed in.
M. S.
Once in the English Market you can find stairs to a mezanein floor where the cafe is located. Order at the cashier, get a wooden spoon number and you food will be delivered where you will be seated.
Service is fast considering the number of customers.
Amazing butter, bacon and sausage. Simply one of the best I've tasted.
Seats are not very comfortable but the devore is unique to this place.
J. K.
Service was fantastic but the food was a bit meh. (Was expecting more given the positive reviews.) Buy a coffee and a cake and soak in the atmosphere. (The sandwiches and the soup were so-so.)
P. R.
Farm Gate central to thr Cork English Market. It is located upstairs and service is two fold On one balcony soup/chowder savoury snacks are served and across the way a more formal menu and service operates In both areas quality is very good. Service at the snack area is by choice at the display counter and then served to the chosen table. This is a somewhat narrow area but staff render seating and serving seem so simple. Well done all round I've been to the more formal area some time ago and was well pleased. A landmark Cork location.
G. H.
Irish breakfast, porridge and vegan breakfast all highly recommended. All served within 30min. Not too busy mid-morning. Staff welcoming and very helpful.
H. K.
Amazing service, delicious food. Tried the daily meat - fried lamb's liver & bacon - and it was served with perfectly cooked veg as well. Everything was delicious, & make sure to try the local cider!
E. T.
What a treat! friendly humorous staff and very fresh and nice food made with love!
S. H.
The atmosphere was amazing being situated above the English market. The coffee and juice were fantastic and fresh. The food was absolutely amazing, can't be disappointed with anything on the menu.
S. B.
Loved the breakfast maple syrup over French toast and bacon. Reasonably priced and friendly helpful staff. Definitely go again.
K. B.
Had a baguette with local Irish cheddar and ham and it was amazingly delicious for being so simple. My only criticism is they are set up strangely and it’s hard to get a table or your food
S. L.
Ate here on a voucher and honestly I know to not expect too much from a voucher but did not feel like the service we received was satisfactory at all. Staff felt like they were just going through the motions waiting for 5 o clock to arrive. For a place that was talked up a good bit I felt it fell below par. Presentation of the food was only ok. Would not be rushing back
D. 2.
This place is located on the second floor of an open air market so space is pretty tight. But the service and quality of food made it worth the experience. Go to the market and eat here. You will not regret it!
D. M.
Lovely food and staff and you can go down to the market underneath. Which have brilliant meats and fish and some veg
D.
A wonderful place for a coffee and sandwich. Staff found us a seat quickly and were very polite and efficient. The spiced beef was excellent.
m.
This is a must for anyone that wants delicious food/cakes, tables go fast so it's just a matter of minutes to have a seat. Chowder+soda bread is a perfect combo
M. O.

Great wholesome food with the freshest of ingredients. Reasonable prices, table service a little slow if you have just an hour for lunch.
J. M.
Really nice place to eat when in Cork City. Good food and a nice view looking down at the market.
J. R.
Lovely spot, great freshly made sandwiches to eat in or take away, fresh farm food.
C. C.
Food was solid. Not the best you could find at the market, but the vantage point and people watching made it worth it. Nice experience.
D. O.
Good spot for a decent breakfast of locally sourced (from within the Market in which it is situated mainly) produce. The quality of the coffee is its only downfall.
D. B.
An atmospheric cafe inside the English Market. It specialises in high quality local produce. Avoid between 1 o'clock to 2 o'clock when locals come for their lunch break and ques are long.
P. M.

(Translated) Local located on the first floor of the "English Market" that has an area with table service and another where you can queue, order at the bar and where you must wait for a waiter to offer you accommodation. The typical Irish Chowder Chowder is highly recommended. There is also soup of the day (for example, the last time I was in this place there was gazpacho), sandwiches and other dishes. A good place to eat or have lunch.

(Translated) Very good meal overall. Prices are excessive. Count 14/15 € the dish. Fresh market produce and cool waitress!
We had Irish stew and corned beef (beef with cabbage), everything was good.
Very nice frame but a little cold at times (heating limited time with lamps)
To do if you are passing through Cork during the visit of the English market!
(4/5 for the prices charged and we had tasted a slightly better Irish stew on Cork)
