Best steak I’ve had at a restaurant in a long time. I may be old fashioned but when I go out for a steak I want a great tasting proper size sirloin. Not and 8 oz rump or flat iron steak. These guys do a fantastic 20oz sirloin steak with all the trimmings for a very reasonable 38 Euros. Great flavour cooked the way it was asked. Will be back.

Stopped for a quick lunch. Had a very fresh, delicious egg mayonnaise, beautiful vegetable soup and a tasty ham and cheese sandwich. Waitress Ann took great care of us and shared her local knowledge with us. A bonus was we were allowed to bring our dog with us. Outside seating of course.

Definitely plan for a wait if you are coming during dinner. I believe we waited about 25 minutes. But the staff is incredibly kind and attentive, and the food is amazing. Bathrooms are also kept very clean. We got steak and the seafood chowder with eclairs for dessert. Would definitely recommend if you are in town.

We had dinner here yesterday with our 2 kids (5 & 8). We're vegetarians and had options on both the normal and kids menu. The food was sooo good! We came back today for lunch. The menu had less vegi options, but they immediately suggested other vegi plates and they were very very tasty as well! The staff was very friendly and it's a lovely place to sit. There's free wifi and a big parking up front! Definitely do visit if you're looking for a place to eat with your family.

Excellent place to eat myself my husband and daughter stopped for food on her birthday. The food was delicious desserts too. Staff so nice waiting staff were brilliant at there job super friendly. It was my daughter’s birthday the staff brought out an eclair and sang her happy birthday she was so happy made her day. Highly recommend I don’t live near by but We will be returning back soon. Called here on Monday on way home from short break. Can only have the highest praise for all the staff and the quality of the food. With such a large dining area there was no problems with social distancing. We felt very safe and were shown to a table away from the other diners. We chose to have the €25 four course dinner. All the food was so good and well presented and we ate heartily. I can understand why they have such wide doors. The staff were wonderful and so pleasant . They all had their visors or masks fitted properly and any inconvenience caused by wearing them didn't show to us the customers. Just want to say thanks to all at the Monasterboice Inn and hopefully we will be back again soon.

We have been happy customers of The Monasterboice Inn for many years. Good meals, beautifully presented are the norm!! The quality of the food is wonderful - legendary. The beef & steak dishes are always in great demand and always of 5 star rating. Menus are varied - today our group had Cajun chicken salad, turkey & ham, roast beef with a choice of fresh vegetables. Sumptuous food in generous portions. Service is excellent. The staff are renowned for the care they take of each diner. A very professional staff - it is the individual diner who matters - and if help is needed to make a choice from the menu it is lovely to experience the effort made to ensure that the best ,,& most satisfying choice is arrived at.

Had a beautiful meal here. Didn't have to make a reservation even though it was Easter Sunday, just had to wait a few minutes before being seated. We were given a menu while waiting & the girl took our order, so that, when it was time to be seated, out starters were brought straight out to us. A wide range of menu, with something for everyone. Huge portions & fantastic value. The staff were extremely friendly & helpful, in beautiful surroundings. My Mother in Law was unable to finish her meal & they kindly boxed it up for her to bring home. Top marks for not wanting to waste food. Would definitely recommend a visit.

Came here one night when it was really busy and we had to wait as we hadn't booked a table. But the staff were very accommodating. Lovely atmosphere and loved the decor of the place. And the food was delicious! Chicken Maryland was unlike anything I had tasted anywhere else. Also the Surf and Turf was lovely. And the portions of the fish they give you is excellent. Really enjoyable meal. Will definitely come back.

Always a firm favourite with family visiting from overseas, of all ages. Been going here almost twenty years now and it's the 16oz fillet steak that keeps me coming back but no matter what you order you are always guaranteed a high quality meal. Staff are fantastic, especially Linda, Karl, Jimmy and Shauna to name but a few, they can never seem to do enough for you. I have no hesitation recommending Donegan's Monasterboice Inn to anyone passing by or even if it's out of your way it's well worth the detour. Did I mention the 16oz fillet steak???

Usually very busy. Great for breakfast lunch or dinner. Good choice for functions especially since they built on the extension which is very nice. Good bar as well with good selection of alcohol. I have been there many times. And the Al la cart menu is a lot better than the fixed menu in functions or Sunday dinners. Sometimes the food can suffer on the fixed menu but would recommend it for normal Al la cart dining.

I had pre booked a large family group of 20 for dinner after a day at the zoo. Staff were very accomodating and provided a great service. Food was delicious. Best steaks around. This establishment is renowned for its steaks and its warranted. They are amazing!! T bone, sirloin, fillet and however you want them done. All sizes and weights, no problems. This is a big restaurant with plenty of on site free parking. It's that popular that on weekends you may need to wait for a table but if you can its absolutely worth it. There's a very comfortable bar area also. Perfect for food it your trvalleinh to or from drogheda or even if you want something more formal of an evening.

First time in the 'Bar' area which has undergone an upgrade. Nice decor good atmosphere with a nice selection of 80s background music. Helpful plesent staff (big improvement) and a excellent cup of coffee to enjoy with fruit scones, strawberry jam, whipped cream and a courtesy daily newspaper. An enjoyable hour. A comprehensive lunch menu is available.

The food here is served in proper sized portions. Perfectly sized, not too big or too small. The steak offering is superb and is always served cooked to perfection, in my opinion one of the best steaks available in Ireland (16oz fillet medium is my preference). I wrote the below, in brackets, on trip advisor but received a perfect response from the owners so i've changed my rating to 5 stars. Unfortunately I cannot do this on trip advisor. Read below to see my review and the response received. If you are coming to Drogheda make this place a must visit. (The only issue I have is we tried to book a table for a Friday or Saturday night(can’t be sure of the exact day) and were told that bookings couldn’t be made for that day we would have to arrive and wait for a seat to become available. This wasn’t a problem until while waiting at the bar three sets of different people, all being greeted by first name by the server, walked in and said booking for ‘......’. Not sure if it’s a case of if you’re local or known to them You can book but it took a bit of a shine off that particular night. RESPONSE FROM OWNER ON TRIP ADVISOR. Thank you for your review, we are very glad to hear you enjoyed dining with us, and enjoyed our steaks particularly. Regarding the booking issue, we have customers who come on the same night to the same table, every single week in life, and sometimes 3 or 4 times a week, and some of them have done so for 40 years or more, indeed we have 3rd generation customers. ( it can also be customers with health difficulties) So we take their booking. As we are primary a road house, we never can tell if our dining room will be fully occupied or not, depending on different events taking place around the country, so we don't take bookings at the weekends, with the exception of the above. I realise it can be frustrating, when you are waiting for a table and a party come in and sit down straight away, but as we take your order while you are waiting, it can happen that you could be served before them. In any case, isn't this the way of the world, e.g. frequent flyer rewards, loyalty card benefits, etc. Thank you for raising this issue, and giving us the opportunity to explain. It should also be noted, often people who are booked, don't show up, or come late, or come with a different number in their party than what they booked, and as we have different dining rooms with different capacities, service flows more efficiently for everybody when we don't take bookings, facilitating everybody as they arrive. Once again, thank you for your review, we will look forward to taking care of you again soon.)

Food, glorious food! This place has been an institution for many, many years. Even though traffic now passes by on the M1 Motorway, this place is well worth the short detour to break the journey, stretch the legs, have a meal, and a drink.

The dining experience is quite unusual for Ireland, in that arriving for food you're directed to a "Reception" lounge area where you can wait and review the menu. Once a server takes your order you're given a buzzer, then once the buzzer goes off, head to your table and the food arrives pretty promptly thereafter. It's a very efficient and tasty operation, but feels like a dining hall rather than a restaurant. The staff are excellent.

A really well run restaurant but by God is it busy. So many people cannot be wrong. They don't take bookings, it's only walk in service, but I suppose with so many customers, they don't need to. We shared a chicken wings starter. Not a first date dish, but they tasted gorgeous. We both had scampi. A full portion is 30 pieces whilst a half portion is 23 pieces. What's that about? Anyway, you can have the scampi in batter or breaded. I had the battered and it was delicious. Proper scampi. My wife had it breaded and I'd have to say, that was disappointing. I tried it. Always select the battered variety. The chips were also dry rather than soft. As I said, Donegans is very well run and the food must be good given the huge number of customers. I would certainly go back but I wouldn't have the breaded scampi. Finally, we volunteered our vaccination certificates, but we weren't asked. That needs to be tightened up.
