d. m.On our first contact everything seemed good, staff friendly and welcoming. Chose to sit inside near the fire but left after a man approached the fire only inches from our table with no mask or apparent awareness of restrictions. We simply left. I know these are difficult times for all in the hospitality industry but observing simple guidelines is a must.

C. S.As a connoisseur of hot wings, I've tried all of the "best wings" in Dublin. Ireland isn't a fan or good judge of spicy food, unfortunately, and most of the recommended wings are mediocre at best. I haven't tried the other sauces here, but the spicy wings at Farmer Browns are the best in the city, bar none; and, aside from a random pub on Jervis Street, there isn't a particularly close second.

K.The food here is traditional but with really interesting and tasty additions, every dish had great imagination and absolutely hit the spot. This is usually a busy place, but the staff are still attentive and full of smiles under pressure. Comfortable seating with TV screens showing matches which weren't too loud, lovely atmosphere here!

The pints were nice and fresh, the chicken hot wings were nice and spicy (the kind where your nose starts to run 😅), and the curry sauce on the chips was, I think, one of the nicest I've ever had!! Looked like it was homemade, not from a pot of powder, and had a nice kick to it 🤤
All in all, the meal was delicious.....then again, in the short length of time they've been in the Golden Ball, we've never had a bad meal in it, or from it.

M. C.Good atmosphere in most of the many parts of the slightly weird layout, homely decor. Food is always solid to good. Good value lunch and while prices hike up in the evening, they don't feel poor value like many other places in the area. Service is random, sometimes warm and efficient, other times it's as if you aren't there with one server doing everything including chatting too much to diners when it's busy, but overall, very good place.

The fireplace makes it even more welcoming and somehow there’s never much of a crowd. The food is insane for the price. Soup is always incredible and the southern fried chicken sambo. T. B.Just visited the recently opened Farmer Brown's. The service we recieved was terrible. The staff were nice and very apologetic but it was bad from start to finish. On the plus side the food was tasty. I guess teething problems are to be expected on the first weekend but they need to up their game if they want retain customers.
@ Grace, Thank you for taking the time to read my review. Just to point out we weren't a drop in, we had a booking. Our Mother's Day meal was a shambles from the beginning. I could have listed everything that was wrong with the experience but didn't. I will try again and I hope it improves as a good pub is badly needed in the area.

W. O.Great menu a really nice choice of dishes, lovely food and atmosphere, shame about the service. We booked a table for 5.30 and arrived on time, we were seated to our table. Had to wait 15/20 mins for menus. Noone asked would we like drinks when we got our menus. We had to wait a while for our table to be cleared after mains to be told someone would be over with desserts menus, 15 minutes later I had to ask for dessert menus, to be told their was none and they tell us what's in the dessert display unit. The place wasnt at full capacity and there was a number of staff working so I don't feel like there should have been such a waiting time. Due to slow service it took us 2.5hr to have 2 courses.

Menu is very homely, staff are very nice, also very nice atmosphere.

N. A.It was ok. The decor and building itself is lovely. But the large room we were put in to dine was cold. The soup was delicious, but the bread served with it tasted like treacle. I love bread by the way but none of us could eat it. Others may love it though, it would've been nice to have another option. My burger was nice, a Portobello one. My husband had the beef and guinness pie which he didn't eat much of as he said it lacked flavour. My son's goujons were over cooked. But the chips were the nicest I've ever had and the service was friendly, very good. We would go back as it seems like a lovely place and there was plenty of choice on the menu.

A.Thumbs up for great nachos! Also, the outside tables on a sunny day are well worth waiting for.
It was pretty tricky to leave their car park though as the traffic lights never seems to be turning green.

M. E. M.Wonderful pub in a beautiful location! The Golden Ball was purchased and completely renovated a couple of years ago. It has a warm and inviting interior which now offers spacious seat with lots of room to relax. There is an outdoor patio to the rear with a beautiful view of the mountains. There is also ample parking to the rear. The pub features a restaurant. It is just a short and easy amble from Carrickmines, Stepaside, or Enniskerry. Staff are friendly and helpful.

This review was for originally Goldenball pub which has now become part of the Farmer Brown chain. It's still adequate, but gone are the prawns and in comes the more regular pub chain food. Marked down by one star - unfortunately, just not the same anymore!

Pretty bad when a McDonald's chicken burger would be far better. I ordered salmon teriyaki with Asian veg. Came with no veg. Salmon was nicely cooked but swimming in an extremely salty sauce. Inedible. Sent it back and got a lamb dish instead. Served quickly, but again luke warm but otherwise ok. Definitely doesn't deserve to be call a gastro pub. Nice place for a pint but avoid the food.
J. J.Say what you want about the service, but i've always had great food and service here. This place is a local gem, but opens doors for passing people as well. Try the chicken wings, just don't order it as a main course unless you're REALLY hungry.
