Food here was delicious and the service was great. Really nice atmosphere. Recommend the Potted Dingle Bay Crab! The Venison was also amazing. Looking forward to going back.

Overpriced - first of all. Calling their 18 EUR " Irish charcuterie Board with chutneys & breads" is just an offence to Irish food- look yourself at the photo. Slices of salami, one chutney and two toasted pieces of bread, really?
Mains very delicious, nicely presented combinations of good ingredients. Nice atmosphere, busy but kind waiters.
C. M.
Food was very good but this place is VERY expensive compared to other places in the area. The staff will call you you out if you don't order a "Main". The menu was different from what they posted online and nothing really seemed appetizing. Also as a side mention, this has been the only place in Ireland which requested a tip.

Absolutely brilliant. Incredibly hard to decide what to order as it all sounds, and looks fantastic. The food was spot on and the service is great.
N. T.
Excellent. Had the smoked haddock with cream onion sauce over a bed of perfectly cooked mash. Followed by the best Christmas pudding, ice cream sauce I've ever had!!!!
Matched by very attentive waiters.
Great job guys, will be back

I loved everything about this restaurant and am so happy to have celebrated my birthday here!
The food was incredible (would recommend the crab starter), our waiter was amazing and the view of the ha'penny bridge just topped it all off. Felt really safe and secure with lots of space between tables and all procedures being followed to keep us safe.
Will be recommending to everyone and will 100% be back... already excited to have the crab again!!
N. M.
Excellent food, great wine choice. Service was superb. The crab starter is a must, and the ingredients for our entire meal were fresh and high quality. Covid rules were fully adhered to.

I will never not go here when in town. One of my favorite restaurants in the world. If I could give more stars, I would.
P. T.
Absolutely delicious Irish food. Quirky and romantic, I recommend having a table with view on the Liffey. The staff is really lovely, and they have taken all the necessary COVID-19 precautions. I definitely recommend this space for casual and romantic evenings and also nights out with friends.

Four of us ate here last Saturday 15th January.
The main course was excellent for us all. I shared as recommended the fish plater for starter with my husband. To be honest that didn't work out well. The muscles deep fried in batter were horrible as agreed by 3 of us. What was left was salmon and a small piece of some other fish. I ate it all myself... not much to share unfortunately...and pricey too. 3 main fish dishes were very nice and I ate venison which I enjoyed but lacked carbs ,like more mash or fries as it is a rich dish. My favourite was dessert... ice-cream in a cup with a tipple of port and hot espresso for you to pour over. Great idea.
Compliments to Susan or Suzanne whom was an excellent waiter and extremely helpful.
Some grumpy very tall waiter was rude at the end. He stood over us and watched us finish our cheese board at 8.10pm. Clearly intimidating us to hurry along and get out. We haven't experienced that in other restaurants if you run over time a little. Our beverages were gone at this stage, so it was only a matter of minutes. A little unprofessional and uncalled for. Would I return or recommend this place,?only if that waiter apologised for his behaviour, but he didn't even though my dear friend was clearly upset and afraid of him.

What a nice dinner! We had a great time on the 1st floor balcony. The food was lovely - Irish food revisited and modern. The service was impeccable, and the drink selection very nice. Definitely come back again!

Food is delicious and quality is extremely good! The place is located right in the heart of Dublin over a old and well known book store. We dined here over New Years and alright it was delicious, if I conceded the price and the service is it was little over priced. I would still recommend but it was not enough for 5 stars. Happy new year!

I'm a bit conflicted about this restaurant because I really wanted to love it and I only liked it. The location is fabulous and the roof terrace really works for the current dining situation. The staff were friendly and attentive. I just didn't really care for the main dish I got (the pork belly) but there was nothing wrong with it, I just didn't enjoy the taste of the apricot ketchup and pickled fennel with the meat. I also ordered a glass of Portuguese red wine and a stout chocolate mousse and coffee. These were all delicious. However, because I wasn't blown away and was kind of treating myself, I found it a little disappointing and not worth the price. The chocolate mousse alone was €9 and it was just a little pot of chocolate with a couple of berries thrown on top, not even a plate or serviette with it and I couldn't taste any stout. It was delicious nonetheless but I wouldn't pay for it again.
I probably just need to give The Winding Stair another chance, but I'm not sure I will take the gamble again due to the prices and limited menu. I wouldn't put anyone else off going, just know you're going to spend about €50 or more per person and the menu may not be to your taste.
As a side note, the bookstore downstairs is fab and the woman running it was lovely to chat to.

I came here with a group of coworkers for dinner. The restaurant is literally up a winding staircase and is just across the river from the Temple bar area. They have an open concept and you can see right in the kitchen which I really like. The menu is simple and short and the food high quality with a good pace to the service. I had the Irish Seafood Chowder, which was a white chowder loaded with fish. I wish they had pulled the mussels out of the shell as it was clumsy to get the meat out of the shell in a soup, but I did really like the soup. I had the hake for the main and it came over a cheddar mash and was simply amazing. The wine list was good, but the prices seemed too high. The service was very good and overall I recommend.

A great location, overlooking River Liffey. Set lunch menu offered. Salmon is fresh; boar terrine is authentic; potatoes dumpling is flavourful; chicken a bit over cooked (dry) though still delicious with the sauce. Friendly service. Asked for a window seat when booking.
E. M.
The polenta and pork cheek were tremendous and the butter dessert was too die for!
N. W.
Went for a celebratory dinner with a largish group. Had no problems with our size group and on a Saturday night yet!
The menu is varied so there are things for everyone but execution can be spotty. For instance: a buratta starter came with only one cracker which made for a pretty presentation but was lacking for actually eating it. Or, a dish that had grilled corn slices that were completely unflavored.
Quantity of food was ample and an extensive wine list helps the hard working staff.

My husband & I enjoyed a beautiful lunch, overlooking the river. The Winding Stair is a small place above an adorable bookstore. They bring a delightful farm to table experience to Dublin! We started with local brews & a charcuterie board. Everything was SO delicious! A variety of meats and delicious bread. I had the duck leg for my entree and my husband enjoyed a steak. Everything was cooked to perfection. Our servers were so friendly and even gave us recommendations on how to enjoy the rest of our day in Dublin! A Very delightful meal in a lovely spot. Highly recommend!

An excellent restaurant, probably the best Irish cuisine restaurant I've been to.
Fast service, very enjoyable food, clean and (although being quite noisy) a good atmosphere in a well frequented city centre restaurant.
The Christmas menu was very affordable with a great choice of starters, mains and desserts.
You can see directly into the kitchen, the chefs looked very clean and professional which is always great to see and the kitchen itself was sparkling from a customers perspective.
I had the terrine, the turkey with stuffing and potatoes and the bread and butter pudding. All of which could not be faulted, beautifully presented, each dish was well balanced flavour wise and the portion sizes were perfect
All in all a great restaurant for food and drink. A very good menu with each customer being spoiled for choice. Will be returning here again
10/10

Came into the restaurant with rather high expectation because of the existing reviews of the restaurant. The ambience was amazing. Sparkly clean restaurant. The staffs and waiters were rather friendly. My expectation became higher. The starter I had (tomato tartare) was delicious but the main (pork dish) was utterly disappointing. The poached egg was almost hard-boiled. The bacon was rather tough and too salty. Therefore, I thought the price was too much for the food. Don’t think I’ll come back.
J. G.
Delicious food, great ambience, attentive and friendly staff
T. R.
Great experience, tasty Irish food and attentive service.
I have been wanting to go here for a while and went in a Sunday evening. The scene is set just walking up to this beautiful building in the cold Dublin night. The atmosphere strikes the perfect balance between rickity and buzzy. We had delicious food, efficiently served by a team that obviously really know their stuff. Don't be put off by the lack of table cloths and over priced wine, this is definitely a memorable place for an outstanding meal in Dublin.
A. S.
Lovely restaurant. Interesting food that I didn't know but very tasty. The waiter was incredibly. The wine cocktails are highly recommended.
G. B.
The food was really good but I felt like the waiter forgot about us. Also we got the pidgeon game and found 5 shotgun pellets in it. Not sure if that's normal but something to consider. Regardless, the food was so good that I would easily go back again.
V. P.
I’ve been here a few times for brunch and really enjoy the meals. Of particular note is the smoked fish platter. It is so good! They may say it’s for two people but I can eat the whole thing it’s so good. My parents recently had their chowder (pictured) and said it was fantastic. The addition of chorizo gives it a unique flavor. Highly recommend and make a reservation!
T. M.
Very nice setting, open, airy and comfortable not at all stuffy but it will leave you completely stuffed. The food is absolutely amazing nothing else to say. This is a "must stop here" for any Dublin visit.
J. B.
Excellent lunch in the heart if Dublin.
Beautiful view over the Ha'penny bridge. There is not many choices on their lunch menu (3 starters, 3 mains) yet it took me way to long to decide what to have as every single dish looked amazing. The ingredients use are, local, very fresh anf of great quality. The fresh produce is really the star of the plate. The restaurant has an extensive wine selection with something for every taste. I would highly recommend this place and when you go here make sure you come early so you can browse the excellent bookstore on the ground floor.
S. L.
Friendly and kind staff.
They had a good menu of nice selection of dishes. The atmosphere was nice and cozy. Seats were comfortable. I ordered cockles and mussels cooked in a nice fish broth, I would recommend yes!
L. A.
My husband and I loved the unpretentious atmosphere combined with the incredibly well prepared, large portioned, foodie-worthy entrees. We both ordered the braised lamb, which was tender and moist. The best lamb we've had in a restaurant, actually. I tried sweetbread for the first time as a part of the main and I would eat it again in a heartbeat, although something tells me it wouldn't be as good outside of The Winding Stair! For dessert we had the Guinness Cake, which was a wonderful end to the meal. We've agreed that we're going back, this time for the duck!
e. f.
Food was pretty average. Staff where lovely and the space is great especially if you get a window seat. But ya food was over complicated and pretty average.
A. M.
Great service and great good.
I got served quickly and politely, the staff were helpful and knowledgeable about their menu and the food was both attractive and tasty.
I would recommend that you book ahead and enjoy yourself!
r.
Dining area above book shop along Liffy canal opposite temple bar. Had the crabmeat which was delicious with bread. Mussels was nice and fleshy but cockles was perhaps not in season. Lots of garlic n parsley to go with soup.
P. R.
I came there for a dinner with my family and we spent a delightful moment, the food was amazing, the environment was nice with a view on the liffey and I write this comment because of the service which was very very nice, thanks to Gar. Highly recommended.
H. P.
Very accommodating service and exquisite menu. On a cold day I indulged in a scrumptious parsnip and sage soup followed by lambs liver served with quince. Super rich, very generous portions, sensibly priced and beautifully presented. If I lived in Dublin this would be my constant go to restaurant
S. T.
This place was recommended to me by a local foodie and I'm so glad I came. It is a fantastic treat of gourmet food coupled with gorgeous 2nd story views of the river. I ordered the hake pate starter and beef cheek & watercress lunch special and was completely blown away by its creative take on modern Irish cuisine.
P. S.
Fantastic restaurant with delightful food! I had pork belly with chorizo jam which was perfectly cooked, the wife had the smoked haddock which made her very sad to finish. The waiters were very friendly and welcoming. lovely atmosphere inside. We'd come back here in a heartbeat.
R. A.
This popular restaurant serves tasty food using fresh ingredients, portions are generous, bread baked fresh, a place to take time over your meal. Menu highlights Irish produce and recipes.
A. L.
Good restaurant. Excellent service. High quality, moderate price.
E. K.
Great location and decor. Take the flight of stairs up to get to the restaurant. Excellent food. Nice vibe. Highly recommend, good for any size group.
M. W.
It's fantastic restaurant located just minutes from O'Connels Bridge, with delicious food and cosy atmosphere. I was only looking for a dessert and after great recommendations ended up with incrrdible venison ribs (from happy deer from Phoenix Park!), dessert and wine. Absolutely delicious experience, friendly and skilfull staff; also great views into Leffey and Ha Penny Bridge.
K. M.
From my personal experience - not all that it's cracked up to be. I ordered beef cheek with parsnip/apple/bacon hash and was slightly underwhelmed. The dish was a bit plain and was pretty much just what it said on the label. The parsnip hash in particular was just fried cubes of parsnip apple and bacon. Which is technically what a hash is but I was expecting a more imaginative meal, better spices, more ingredients than just the bare minimum. The beef cheek was very good but there wasn't a lot of it either. On the other hand my friend ordered the eggs Benedict which were very nice. But that alone wouldn't be enough for me to go back.
e. c.
The restaurant has a very nice view to the Lifey, spacious and bright room.
Irish foods with good and fresh products.
S. S.
Am outstanding experience. Each dish we ordered was delicious and impeccably cooked. The seafood chowder was creamy and delicious, the venison we cooked just right and was succulent and tasty. We had the Guinness cake and it was marvellous! Beautifully moist and just sweet enough to make it an enjoyable treat. I will be going back there for more!
P. S.
Great place if you area food aficionado! Not cheap, and definitely reserve a table otherwise you might have to wait a long time. Try the veal, it's outstanding!
W. W.
I'm hesitant to give this 5* rating only because it makes it more difficult to get a reservation at this charming restaurant. It has a view of the Liffey and Temple Bar but the highlights are the honest Irish produce and dishes, and the excellent wine list. Great service.
N. E.
It was pricier than I expected but if you want to treat yourself with a nice ambience and delicious food it worths the money.
They have a good selection of wine and especially couple of different options for oaked& buttery Chardonnay (hard to find in Dublin).
I had burrata cheese for starter and sole fish followed with the rhubarb cramble. Except dessert all was very delicious. Rhubarb dessert was missing something I cannot describe. It was not bad but it was not also a signature taste.
U. D.
Loved the Sunday brunch. The flavors were great and the ambiance too. I had their smoked fish platter and venison ribs. The smoked salmon infused with beets was awesome!
P. T.
Excellent food, made with love. Presented well and with quality ingredients. Service was excellent, very attentive. Highly recommended.
G. W.
Really fantastic restaurant. Enjoyed a gorgeous dinner with great service from Fiona. Returned for brunch which was also lovely.
A. G.
Great service and delicious food. I highly recommend Guinness chocolate cake which was amazing!
A. M.
My dessert picture says it all - simple food, that is simply delicious! Steak, fish, lamb and duck dishes with a wonderful array of light starters, tasty desserts and a lengthy wine list to match. As the name states, it is up a winding staircase overlooking the Liffey and ha’penny bridge. A classic spot in Dublin!
N. S.
Delicious food and excellent service. Tried the cockles & mussels and the John Dory. Reservations preferred but we managed to snag a walk in table.
S. V.
Went for brunch at 12 on Saturday. We made a reservation in advance which was wonderful because they got very busy, very quickly. I think this is always a good sign. I had the mixed mushrooms on toast and had to be awkward and ask for my eggs to be prepared well done and the hollandaise sauce to be served on the side: which they did without a bother and it was delicious.
I love the decor of the place, we had a table by the window overlooking beautiful Dublin. Would recommend this place for a nice cosy brunch.
C. B.
1st time here, definitely worth the wait to go. Beautiful food, lovely staff relaxed atmosphere...really enjoyable dining experience
G. K.
One of my favorite restaurants anywhere. Not haut cuisine or astonishing ambiance but excellent food with fair prices. I just really enjoyed it.
S. S.
Expensive but worth it. Slightly hidden walk up restaurant with old world charm. Modern irish food
S. M.
Delicious. Superb food, cooked beautifully. Portion size is large, so bring an empty stomach!
s. r.
I had lunch with my sister on Saturday, the food was great, the service was great and the price was great, I had been there before and was a little disappointed, but not on Saturday, well done to the chef and staff,I'll definitely be back!, ps my Sister paid, but I believe it was inexpensive.
D. H.
Best meal I’ve had in years.
Really great - great service too
j. w.
Menu delicious great choice
Service Excellent
Table ready at appointed time
W. W.
Make a reservation! Did for four at 8:30 on Good Friday. Food was delicious.
R. D.
Great food, including the vegetarian options, lovely space, and nice views.
M.
I've eaten here 5 times in the last 2 years, and it is one you will keep going back to.
Atmosphere -- great rustic literary theme with views of the River Liffey. Above a bookstore.
Food -- pre theatre dinner is a great deal. Sometimes the chicken can be dry, but other times perfectly cooked. The fish is usually always good. The chicken liver is also nice. Desserts are fine!
Service -- exceptional. Staff really know their beers and wines. Also someone I was with didn't like his main dish (was being adventurous), and the waitress noticed and decided not to charge him for it.
P. M.
A lovely little spot that cosily overlooks the Liffey. All three courses I had were delicious and fresh, and I especially loved the Guinness cake for dessert. Amazing wine selection too!
C. N.
Fantastic atmosphere, looking out onto the bridge. Fabulous food, no complaints.
J. S.
Wonderful service with enthusiastic staff, great view and really tasty food. Worth booking.
W. Y. C.
Great place for seafood. The monkfish is cooked to perfection! The sea trout was also sublime.
M. G.
Cosy place but overpriced. The lady at the entrance was a bit oversmart with her comments to guests. Guess it's new age hospitality.
S. S.
A wonderful Mother’s Day gift of a delicious 3course meal with Prosecco from a faraway daughter. It came with the simplest instructions in a variety of little pots and packets which my husband assembled and cooked and was really tasty. Such generous portions that guess what? We’re having it all over again this evening!
Look forward to being able to come and eat in your restaurant whenever we are allowed.
B. B.
After reading reviews, we thought it's amazing place. And it's not bad, but definetly I wouldn't describe it as amazing.
We had 3 course menu, and food was alright, but that's all. For this price you can go to michelin star restaurant and have faboulous dinner. All in all, ot's okay, but we won't get back.
P.S. If u get window seat, view is amazing.
c. m.
Food was amazing and so were staff!

Excellent food. Friendly staff. Lovely experience.
A. W.
An amazing place to eat, it's definitely one of my favorite places to eat in Dublin. 10/10
S. P.
Good food reasonably priced 👍for lunch, I'll try an evening meal soon.
J. K.
Amazing! Food, service the whole place is incredible! Breadpuding with whiskey sauce... OMG! it was HEAVEN! Highly recommended for everyone!
a. d.
Nice seafood chowder! Lots of chunky seafood. Bread should be placed on separate plate and another slice would perfect! Other foods served ok. Ambience ok. Cost ok. Comfort ok.
M. C.
We stopped in for lunch because I’d heard good things about the restaurant. I’m glad we did! It is a little pricey, but the meal was fantastic. We chose the set 3 course menu. Both had the crab appetizer, I had the steak entree (omg was this ever delicious!), my spouse had the trout. And the dessert! Highly recommend the bread and butter pudding. Yummy!
J. H.
Incredible meal... beautiful, fresh, amazing ambiance and views... it was a spectacular experience.
M. A.
Love this restaurant. Located above a very interesting book shop - give yourself time to explore that too. The ambiance is great and the staff is outstanding. Very pleasant every time I have visited. The soups are all great - especially on a chilly gray day. My very favorite is the bread and butter pudding. As good as I have ever had. Give this place a try. Highly recommended.
A. S.
Spectacular food, great view and very cozy!
J. F.
A must go if you're visiting Dublin. Food is amazing, atmosphere is relaxing and service is awesome!
M. K.
Fabulous food. Attentive service. Good wines. Delicious desserts.
C. J.
A really enjoyable meal. Great service in a welcoming and comfortable restaurant.
E. C.
This place is overrated to say the least. We made a reservation a week before, knowing that this is one of the most popular restaurant that provides authentic Irish cuisine. But it turned out to be a bit underwhelming.
SERVICE
The service was not the best due to a lack of manpower. The entire restaurant only had 2 waiters which is definitely not enough. We had to wait for 20 minutes just to pay our bill, which was definitely not excepted.
FOOD
The food was only satisfactory. I ordered a traditional Irish potato dumplings as my main, not knowing that Irish potato dumplings are not true dumplings but instead potatoes with different textures. I admit that it’s my own personal ignorance, but the dumplings had no taste and the entire dish was not satisfying at all. I think that this dish was just making me feel full instead of enjoying the process of eating. The bread and butter pudding was fine though and definitely lived up to the expectations.
ENVIRONMENT
I didn’t know that you literally have to walk up a stack of “winding stairs” to go up to this restaurant. The place was hygienic, stylish and the environment was great. It was not too big but the I think the size is perfect.
o. 1.
My family and I had a wonderful and pampered meal. Our waiting staff were polite, kind and keen to please. A breath of fresh air to be in an extraordinary restaurant and especially because we were a group of 9 people. We never felt an hindrance or that we were getting in the way. Would recommend to anyone and everyone who enjoys fine dining and feeling looked after.
L. M.
The food was great and the ambiance was perfect. Would recommend if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of Temple Bar.
L. L.
Excellent food, interestingly drink selection, cozy yet fashionable venue
m. m.
Curiosity satisfied..what a lovely place to drop in to after work..Rang on the off chance for a last minute table and was pleasantly surprised to get one..got a 630 table so we got the early bird menu and a "not too limited" one at that..food was excellent and service was quick and not too fussy..staff were very friendly and knowledgeable and nothing was a problem..only down side was the wine list was a bit over priced..but sure where isn't in Dublin these days..would definitely visit again
A. P.
Amazing food, affordable prices & a lovely ambient, ideal brunch place
A. L.
Good service and atmosphere, but no vegan options.
C. W.
Superb location with a view of the river. Menu varies according to season. Amazing wine list, including by the glass! I enjoyed a wonderful Irish trout for lunch along with a glass of Rhone blend. Service was impeccable! (I'd left a gift bag at my table, and he miraculously tracked me down amongst the crowd on the street.)
N. M.
5 star from start to finish. The food, service, location, venue, all 5 star
M. B.
Had a super family Christmas night out in the winding stair tonight. Food was to die for. Especially the goats cheese panacotta, the crab and the venison. But Everyone was happy with their choice. Friendly helpful staff too. Lovely place to be in, in between lockdowns!
D. M.
Such a wonderful restaurant. Delicious food in unique surroundings. An excellent and extensive wine list served by folk who are clearly passionate about what they do.
T. M. D.
Beautiful food. Really fresh and tasty. We had a large group of 12 of us pretty booked for lunch. We arrived 5 minutes before 12 and even though there was nobody in the restaurant and our table was ready we were made go down back downstairs and wait outside in the freezing cold until bang on 12.
This was really of putting but it was like they didn't but on their smile till midday!
That said we had a fantastic mature waiter. Really imformative about the food and the wine. Great recommendations and really engaging. (I would hire him for any business tomorrow ) nothing was too much trouble.
Lovely atmosphere but very squashed tables that felt like they were on top of each other. Not child friendly or wheelchair friendly.
We had a lovely lunch and this was my second time so you can guarantee on good food and good atmosphere.
D. M.
Perfect social distancing and other Covid protocols. Excellent service. There when required, with no annoying uneccessary interruptions. Courteous, responsive & mindful. An excellent example to other restaurants. As a vegetarian for 40 years, best veggie meal I've had in Dub in 2 or 3 years. Set menu under Covid, but excellent variety. If you dine out regularly, you will not be disappointed.
F. T.
We had a very good dinner here. We didn’t have a reservation n a Saturday which might have partially explain them seeming a little understaffed. However, our food & drinks were not delayed. I recommend the haddock over cheddar mash w/onions. very good.
J. G.
Winding Stair is among the top restaurants in Dublin and a place we keep coming back to time and time again. Was there recently and enjoyed their Christmas menu (as we do every year). From the moment you step in you are always well looked after by the wonderful staff. The food is fantastic for the vegetarian and meat/fish lover alike. Never disappoints! Looking forward to coming back in the new year.
J. A.
Amazing place ! Reasonable size restaurant with plenty of natural light and a great view. Staff is very welcoming and full of recommendations. But the best part is definitely the food : everything is delicious and nicely prepared. Probably one of the best spot in Dublin. I’ll definitely be back !
A. W.
Food was very good. Especially the seafood chowder to start. Good atmosphere. Local cuisine. Good selection of options as well. Wine menu also quite good. Service was a little slow and inattentive at times but would go back to re-experience and would hope they would redeem themselves in this area.
A. M.
I always feel a little guilty dining solo at a place with no bar, as I need to monopolize a whole two-top for myself. Luckily this place was not completely full on a Sunday night, no wait, and the staff was exceptionally kind and professional. Wonderful wine list. Thoughtful food. Comfortable but sophisticated atmosphere. The fabulous friend who recommended this place to me was right on.
S. K.
I went to The Winding Stair last night for dinner. I had the potted crab with homemade brown bread to start and the dumplings for my main course. The potted crab was incredible, it was The Best crab dish I have ever had. I highly recommend it. The service was great and the employees were very pleasant. I will definitely go back soon.
L. M.
Delicious. The bread's pudding is very tasty and delicious and I think it can be very good with ice cream!
E. S.
An intimate restaurant with a great menu - traditional Irish fare and a good selection of wines. Definitely on the mid to high end price-point, but still an accessible place to have a nice date night with a cute atmosphere. Has great views of the river and city, so ask for a seat near the windows, and make sure to make a reservation - it was busy when we went.
L. C.
Birthday treat. We met lovely staff who are passionate about the food and wine they serve and love to tell you about the menu.
S. Q.
Great food, lovely atmosphere, and very attentive service. Couldn't ask for more. Special mention for the amazing whiskey caramel sauce on the bread and butter pudding
E. P.
Very good food in a very cool setting. The food was delicious, the atmosphere was great and the service was both fast and friendly. I was there when they were serving their brunch menu, found some different items that were delicious. I feel they use high quality ingredients to cook with. Would definitely go back.
G. B.
Amazing appetizers, main courses and even more brilliant desserts! Great local drinks. Very cool upstairs atmosphere! Very relaxing, full course, meal. Not sure about the parking situation; we walked from our hotel. A beautiful walk. The facilities are clean and interesting. A great way to end the day.
D. P.
Excellent food, wine and service. It's definitely a place where you can order outside your normal comfort zone and be pleasantly surprised. (I tried game pigeon for the first time and adored it; a companion ordered beef cheek and was very impressed.) Highly recommend. Best to book ahead to ensure a table.
B. O.
I would travel to Dublin just to have another meal at this place. The service was one of the most efficient I have ever encountered. Very attentive, friendly staff and the food was to die for (the wine was excellent too). We only had to wait 10 min for food to arrive, which was impressive for a busy Saturday night. Don't think twice, go here!!
G. E.
Had our final dinner in Dublin here. The atmosphere is unmatched. After climbing a set of, you guessed it, winding stairs, you are met with a dimly lit dining area that feels like you shouldn’t have walked into. We were seated along the back wall by the radiators (which I loved) and with a great view to peek at what other diners had ordered. The food was good but not knock your socks off. My husband had the steak and I had the croquettes. The steak was very rare, which I loved but isn’t for the faint of heart, and the croquettes were very unseasoned but nested in a delicious bed of corn. The best part of the meal with the dessert. The bread pudding was so soft and dripping in caramel sauce.

We were recommended this place by several locals and we weren't disappointed. Food was really lovely. It's a little place upstairs in an old building right on the river. We had haddock and lamb that were great good but the steak was amazing with these sticky onions...Yum! If you want an upscale Irish meal give this a try.

When living in Dublin, I asked some colleagues where to go for date night (leaving our son with a babysitter) and a focus on good food, this was a top recommendation.
After going up a winding staircase 😊 we were surprised by how busy the place was. Great ambience, although a little loud. And service was attentive.
We ordered the cheese plate for an appetizer. When asked which were pasteurized (am pregnant) they didn't know but brought me more hard cheese to compensate for the soft ones.
I had the pan fried cod which was delicious and my husband had the steak which he also enjoyed. We had the bread pudding for dessert which was good.
We would certainly go back.

A wonderful restaurant with delicious locally sourced Irish food. We had the fish, lamb and steak and all were very well-prepared and tasty. The beets in the beet salad were the best I have ever tasted. Service was charming and attentive. This is a great spot if you want traditional Irish food with a twist.

Sitting on top floor in a corner was a wonderful evening, great ambience looking over the river and super local food.

This is definitely one of my favourite places for brunch. The food is tasty, the service is awesome and the atmosphere is really special as you can see Ha’penny bridge through the window.
The brunch cocktails they serve are also a great addition to your dish. I’d recommend the bloody Mary without thinking twice.
If you wanna go there though, don’t forget to give them a bell as reservation is highly recommended.

Superb food and wonderfully presented. Why 4 stars and not 5? Tables are a bit to close together, and the wine list is extensive and expensive.
My monkfish was cooked to perfection as was my daughters duck, desserts were brilliant but the starter disappointed us both. The panna coat itself was excellent but we both felt some soda or sourdough bread was needed. That is of course purely a personal view and did not distract from our overall enjoyment of the meal.
K. D.
The Winding Stair was excellent. We started off with appetizers, and one was a little plain, but the panna cotta was great. The fish is perfectly cooked and flavorful, and the potatoes and other sides were great companions to the main dishes. The duck breast was tender and moist, and not overcooked. Was a little pricey, but I can see why. The service was friendly and prompt. Great place to go for a good meal, with a bright, airy dining room and a great view from the third floor.
L. G.
Scrumptious chowder as well as other food. Masterly service
J. S. H.
Lovely space, but small. Hors d’oeuvres were tasty. For the meal, I should have gotten the duck; the pork belly was perfectly done, but just not as interesting. The bread pudding dessert was excellent, as was the strawberry crumble thing.
Would recommend to the waiters to empty the mussels dish once or twice during the meal.
Quite enjoyed the meal.
J. R.
Really good food and service. A nice quite atmosphere in contrast to the busy, loud streets of Dublin.
R. G.
Awesome place. Incredibly interesting food, the brunch was phenomenal. Wonderful service, although it is a small place so a reservation might be important at peak times. Great beer selection and a lovely view. Service was amazing, our waiter was incredibly kind.
D. O.
Still a great, lively dining area serving good, hearty food but, after a bit of a gap since our previous visit, was left pretty stunned at the price increases across the board. A meal for 2 with wine which would have previously registered around €90 came in around €130 for our most recent visit. It's a good spot, but not worthy of those prices. Will leave it to the tourist crowd from hereon given the recent guide book inclusion - would be disappointed if that is what has driven the recent surge in pricing (far outpacing anything that could be justified by the 4% Vat increase).
P.
Had my graduation lunch here and was really impressed by the food! It was really delicious, and all the people with me were really happy too! I have to say it's a bit tight though, and there's not much room for moving.
S. F.
This place is legendary, the reviews don't lie and i feel like it's a must place to go if looking for some great food in Dublin. One needs reservation though before going , I did one a week ahead to be safe. Food was excellent and a bit cozy if you don't mind, also with a book store attached.
j. s.
We had an excellent lunch, the hadock was amazing, and suggested beer excellent !
R. L.
GO TO THE WINDING STAIR. It's honestly one of the best restaurants in Dublin. The food and wine are outstanding. The waitstaff was attentive but not annoying. We asked about selection suggestions for wine and food and were educated and entertained by our charming waiter.
T. R.
Incredibly tasty food, great location and lovely atmosphere. Only downside was I was told they don't do wine by the glass which meant that I couldn't have a good wine with dinner without buying a bottle. All in all though...great!
D. B.
One of my better ever restaurant meals - lamb with haggis croquette was outstanding as was the match wine with bread and butter pudding.
We did on line booking early in evening and arrived 9.15 -all worked perfectly
Excellent waitress as we're all the staff.
If I was local I would be a regular
A. G.
Delicious food and charming service. The potted crab was a huge success and the everything else we ordered was excellent. The pear and ginger cake was particularly good (ask for their brown bread ice cream!) as was their bread pudding. Oh and the soda bread was scrumptious! The only negative were the thick cut chips that came with the mussels and steak - not quite cooked through or crispy enough by my mark. Would be good for a date or for a group and the wine and beer list is pretty good. Would love to go back.
D. D.
Lovely restaurant, great food. There isn't a chef's table in the traditional sense, but there is a table right by the kitchen so you can experience the hustle and bustle. Meat was cooked to perfection and the wine was also very good.
D. A.
Excellent food, service and location. We arrived around 7pm without a reservation and they managed to find us a table at the window overlooking the river until 8.30pm, which was fine by us since we needed to get out by then anyway.
The waiter recommended a wine that went very well with the smoked fish I had and was generally attentive and professional. We happened to be in Dublin during one of the rare heat-waves, and the place was a bit too hot which is why I'm giving it 4 not 5 stars.
M. T.
Really great restaurant and staff. Food was delicious and had a good wine list. A particular thanks to the Manager/Host on Saturday 9th Nov for accompanying us after I had mistaken the time of my booking.
J. L.
On the advice of a podcaster we visited the Winding Stair (with a stop at the bookstore as well) for an early dinner. Like many of our meals in Ireland we were impressed by the commitment to using regional or local foods. Everything we had from fish with sea vegetables to polenta with asparagus (Vegetarian options here) was beautifully plated, fresh and delicious. One of the best meals we had in Dublin. Wine is the beverage here (and they have a marvelous selection) and by the bottle or glass you will find a choice suited to every meal. The dining area is comfortable and nicely lit, giving the space a warm, eclectic feel. If you have mobility difficulties, multiple levels may make access to restaurant and facilities a challenge. The staff was helpful and attentive, but as a companion said, “a little aloof.” (by no means are we looking for the overly-friendly service we so often get in the US, rather looking for a tad more connection). Overall, a recommend dining experience in Dublin.
F. O.
Lovely location outside of the city centre hustle and bustle, with a story behind it too. Food was outstanding, had seafood chowder and it was very tasty. Service was quick enough and prices what you would expect. Definitely recommend for a couple or small friendly get together.
J. L.
This restaurant is SO good, I feel the need to leave the best review while my husband is finishing off his steak. The service is immaculate and friendly, the wine excellent, the food is simply delicious. I am out of superlatives. Ordering dessert now.
O. E.
Lovely meal. Staff observed covid protocols to the letter. I have been there on a number of occasions and it always has been a great dining experience
k. g.
Great food. Extensive wine list (some 200 bottle plus) and excellent atmosphere. Staff were friendly and well equipped to recommend the perfect wine for the extremely perfectly done steak.
Good location as well.
J. H.
Cute, friendly restaurant with consistently good Irish cuisine dishes. Would highly recommend, fairly reasonable for the quality too.
R. S.
Smoked haddock poached in milk was delightful. I was so sad when it was over but the pudding helped to cure my melancholy. Strawberry crumble was delicious. My husband enjoyed the pork belly special (the chorizo jam was devine) and the chocolate peanut tart . Lovely atmosphere and waiters were very welcoming. Would happily recommend to family and friends.
A. A.
Good irish-food restaurant ruined by a rude and not caring waiter.
Food is delicious. We tried the duck leg, cauliflower and cheese croquetes, striploin steak and pork belly and there were done brilliantly and really well presented.
We were unfortunate to get the rudest waiter in the restaurant who tried his best to ruined our experience (judged for not getting any wine, rude in the manners, 10min wait just to order desserts...) but the rest of the staff seemed to be nicer and more polite.
Dessert was lovely too.
Altogether a recommended restaurant. Just luck o'the irish to get you waiter ;)
S. G.
Come here for the tastes rather than your stomach. There are some amazing dishes and wines to be found here, and the prices reflect that. So it's well worth it if you want to have a special moment with food - but not if you're starving.
Service is excellent.
E. C.
Had a nice dinner two weeks ago. My friends had a lovely smoked fish and the steak. Steak was good, only issue was that it had to be sent back twice as it was too undercooked. Biggest disappointment were the mussels:incredibly bland and watery. Shame, as Ireland has great seafood produce.
M. C.
Atmosphere was great, food great, service seemed good for the norms of Dublin (no real sense of urgency/waiting on you, but it gets done within a reasonable amount of time). Bathrooms could use better signage to get to (three floors down, signs not direct in instruction, heard a few other customers say the same during our visit). That's all logistical structure, though, and in my opinion an easy fix.
Wife and I had the charcuterie board, which was a healthy spread of specialty meat cuts and fantastic accompaniments (like picked caperberries). Main courses were the Haddock with saffron potatoes (both cooked to perfection), and the cockles and clam dish (broth that made you want to turn the bowl up to get the last of it). Split a bottle of wine and all in all, left fat and happy with a delicious meal in our bellies for a bit shy of 100 euros, which is fair for the quality of food and the portion sizes.
Would absolutely visit again next time we're back in Dublin. (*Will edit later to add main course photo)
M. M.
Lovely spot for dinner. View out over the Liffey and Ha'penny bridge if you get a table near the window. Moderately priced menu. Veggie and gluten free options. Gluten free bread as an option with soup. I didn't ask about dessert as I didn't want one but from what I could see they didn't have a GF option on the menu. Christmas menu is 3 courses for 50 euro. I got just a main which are mostly prices around the 30 euro mark (supplement for steak). The venison dish was GF delicious, would order again.
The restaurant has a flight of stairs to climb to get into and then another if you're seated on the upper floor (not wheelchair friendly from what I saw). Quite small and pokey but cosy and clearly in demand as it was very busy while we were there.
G. N.
Great food and very good service
R. G.
My food tasted as it was made with love! Definitely coming back 👌🏼❤️
K. H.
Food mouth watering. I adore this diamond of Dublin. Lamb simply delicious best desserts in Ireland. Staff total professional..go go go...ring now for a reservation u won't be disappointed.
K. P.
Food was amazing - I had the haddock poached in milk with creamy cheddar mash, and bread pudding with whiskey sauce for dessert. Good wine menu, great atmosphere, nice views out the window of the river.
k.
Top notch! Service as well! Place to pin down in Dublin
S. N.
tldr; Perfect place for a quiet, intimate brunch/dinner with a good view and great food!
Beautiful location, beautiful decor and best service! After a lot of recommendations, mainly for the view, we decided to have dinner here. Reserve ahead if you want a table with the beautiful view of the Liffey. We did not but the restaurant itself has a nice, warm vibe so you won't miss the view much.
We ordered 3 fish dishes - the chowder (amazing combination of lovely fish and smoky chorizo), crab starter (a must try if you love crab meat!) and the Hoke with mashed potato (crispy skin, buttery sauce and creamy potatoes!). The bread butter pudding with whiskey sauce rounded off the dinner excellently.
Service is friendly and our server was also helpful in suggesting great wine pairings with our food.
K. K.
Mixed bag, the wine is always good but especially by the glass it's quite expensive. I feel like the food comes with ambitious and interesting ideas but then the compositions somewhat don't add up, with certain flavours being overpowering or some ingredients actually not adding to the dish. Services could sometimes be more attentive. Not a restaurant I left thinking that I want to recommend it to everyone.
T. R.
Nice atmosphere, quick service, great veal tongue, but bad (shell) fish. I had a mussel and cockle dish which was a big disappointment. The mussels were not cleaned properly (the beard wasn't removed) and therefore 1/3rd didn't open properly. The mussels and cockles were just dry and lacked taste. In our company, 2 plates of fish were sent back, because it was horribly dry. The meat dishes were very nice though and therefore I was left with very mixed feelings of this restaurant.
C. D.
I remember it best as a second hand bookshop But the restaurant is very good
L. W.
The setting is perfect and the food was good. A couple missteps on the main course lost a star from me: the dumplings were under-seasoned and the onion rings with the cod were tough and didn't go with the fish, which was bland.
A second star was lost due to the server forgetting our dessert drink order and omitting it entirely, with insufficient check-ins to rectify the matter.
A. O.
Try to book and ask for a table by the windows if you want the views but don't worry too much about them: you will be too busy eating!
I got to have dinner here as a birthday present and it didn't need the paper and bow: it was delicious!
The portions are good and the presentation careful and elegant but not overdone. The service was quick and unobtrusive although the restaurant was packed.
If you are thinking about going, just go already, your second time there will only be closer.
L. P.
It's worth the price tag, because you get great food, fresh and locally sourced, a great ambiance and good service. I love how small it is, even though I would have wished for a bit more elbow room. They also have an excellent beer selection, which makes it feel as important as wine is in most places.
G. C.
The Winding Stair is one of those places that made me feel a little uneasy the first time I visited - well, before I visited I mean. It's not a large venue, and I have a hard time with background noise, crowds, and general chaos. Luckily, it was nothing like that. There are a lot of people in the space, but it is well thought out for flow of people, and the noise level is dampened by corners and partitions. The decor is tasteful and attractive - overall, it's just a nice place to be.
It's possibly best for group dining, like with a work crowd or a family gathering - I was there for the former, and did not see too many nooks or two-seater tables (could be that I missed them) .
I would describe the food as hearty - and the portions equally so, you will not go hungry. The quality of the food is, fortunately, absolutely top notch. Some places compensate for bad food with larger portions, not so here.
C. S.
Nice atmosphere in this restaurant, decorated with taste. I ordered fish, which was excellent, but my friends found the meat average. I would not recommend deserts.
We were very disappointed by the service : we were hurried to finish our food and to leave the place, which is not super comfortable when you are having dinner with friends.
C. M.
The Winding Stair may be one of the best restaurants in Dublin. This is not traditional, average tasting, Irish pub fare. This is a well thought out menu with excellent presentation and taste. Service was excellent. We are Americans from Los Angeles. This restaurant rivals some of the best new and innovative restaurants in the Venice, Santa Monica, West LA area. It takes Irish ingredients, traditional recipes and makes something exquisite. Best meal we had in Dublin. Great desserts too.
Cheers
P. L.
Happened upon this restaurant by accident and easily the best accident I’ve made this entire week. The menu is farm-to-table with a keen eye on flavor and preparation. The burrata starter was buttery beyond words. And the mussels and cockles were prepared perfectly with ample broth to sop up with wedge potatoes. Save room for dessert (trust me). My only regret is sharing this with others because surely it will make snagging a last minute table harder.
M. C.
This restaurant came highly reccomended and it was far better than that! Our waiter,Sean, was outstanding! The food and wine were terrific! We had an excellent time and if you are in Dublin please try to eat here. You will enjoy it very much!
f. p.
Had our last brunch in Dublin here. I found really good my braised beef cheek with potato, bacon and fried egg. Very cool the bookshop located on the ground floor, almost timeless. Highly recommended!
b. b.
Spent the last night of a long trip at the Winding Stair. Our greeting was fantastic - they took our coats and made us feel welcome. The location is perched overlooking the Liffey with the Ha'Penny Bridge in lights below. The ceilings are high and the decor is fresh and bright. With a group of 9, it's impressive when everyone is happy and well served. the fish looked stunning, and my Vegan Beet Burger was sensational. I wish I could have it again now! This will be a new place I make sure to visit when in Dublin.
S. M. G.
Great place for some lunch or dinner with views of the liffey!!
J. L.
Great food, and even better service.
We had a delicious mussels and Leak pate, served with treacle bread, a surprising 21 day matured oyster steak and a flavory cockles and mussels pot, sided by great chips.
The experience was amazing. I really recommend it.
N. W.
During NYE. The courses were good. Dessert was awesome. The waitress was very friendly but did not really listen.
After we finished dessert we kinda got kicked out. This really was a no go. Maybe next time calculate more time for a group than 2 hours or do not offer 2 time slots.
H. F.
Great little restaurant. Lunchtime deal very good value. A nice space to be in. Fantastic view over the river. Cooking is precise yet homely, service friendly, and the allied book shop downstairs good too. Go.
Y. T. L.
Visited on a sunday night around 9pm and it was still very busy. I wasn't able to see the bookstore underneath but I was here for the main attraction.
Service and atmosphere was really good, friendly and clean. It was busy so there was alot of noise and tables are very very close together. We had a view of where the food was coming out and alot of dishes looked amazing.
We were hungry and went straight to the mains. The mussels that we ordered came with an order of chips with a creamy dip, which was very starchy, but I soon discovered alot of restaurants made their chips in this fashion. I prefer chips from Amsterdam. The mussels itself was amazing and the portions of that was quite large. The sauce was had great flavors and made us keep on going back for more.
The other main was the cod with cheddar mash. I love the 3 ingredients and thought it would be a great combo. I was slightly disappointed, but the fish was fresh, and the potatoes was really creamy. But it wasn't something that I loved. It tasted good never the less. But I have read other reviews and seen on youtube this is the dish to try.
I liked my experience at the Winding Stairs and Im sure it is one of the most popular restaurant that isn't a pub that people goto. Its great to experience Dublin cuisine that isn't too expensive but you can still have the ingredients that are native to ireland that is different that the pubs.

Thankfully saved from abandonment a few years ago and preserved; retaining some of the character of the former bookshop and cafe but offering an interesting Irish produce and cookery focused menu at reasonably prices. Great place for ambiance and atmosphere, dishes are wholesome and fresh and the provenance is displayed on the menus. Always very good
C. H.
Fabulous food at reasonable prices. The restaurant itself has loads of character and the staff are warm without being familiar. Booking is required to be sure of a table.
R. O.
My favourite restaurant in Ireland by far. Fantastic food ~ the chef is Spanish, while the cuisine is Irish you can tell that there are a few Spanish inspirations for how the food is prepared.
P. M.
Fresh food with often changing menu which suggests 'the catch of the day' approach. Amazing wines and, some almost never seen sustainability in the bathroom 😊
T. H.
It's downtown. Great location and food is superb. If I visit Dublin again I m surely eating there. Well priced and staff are friendly. Interior has a very rustic look.
K. V.
Main course was absolutely perfect, everything was so good! We both had the steak with chips and caramelised onions. Desert was chocolate tart for me, bit too dark for my taste but that's personal. Panna cotta for my husband, was also good but he thought the sauce was a bit too overwhelming. Overall, 4/5 and highly recommended.
S. O.
Have always enjoyed eating here but it's been a while. I must go back! Window seats are some of the best seats for a restaurant in the city. Super for people watching along the river. Staff are attentive and friendly. Often gets very busy so make sure to call or arrive early.
M. K.
Lively restaurant upstairs right off of River Liffey, with a view. Servers are kind and professional, and the food was delicious. Steak & fries pair nicely with a wine (good selection).
k. R.
Wow amazing food. We didnt book a table, and got very lucky. Its essential if you want a window view of the quay, but not if you love people watching and seeing the chefs do their thing. Couldnt decide what to eat everything looked and sounded delicious. The chowder especially, best we have ever tasted. salmon cooked to perfection. Right down to the puddings, bread and butter pudding with whiskey sauce, the meal was worth every euro. thanks for a great wedding anniversary meal.
G. B.
Love this place. Great food, service and atmosphere. I especially like the view into the kitchen to see the pros plating up and inspecting the food before it goes out. I'd recommend asking for a window seat for nice views out onto the Ha'penny bridge and the Liffey.
B. S.
Our very favorite Irish restaurant in all of Dublin. Located over the Winding Stair bookstore, this place is a treasure. The food is exceptional, the service is friendly and adept, and the location looks out over the Liffey near Ha'penny Bridge. Don't miss it, but call ahead to book your reservation.
T. R.
Lovely views and delicious food
R. F.
Best chips I've ever eaten. Cockles and mussels were cooked perfectly. Service and atmosphere we're on point for this quaint little restaurant. Thanks again for squeezing us in!
S. S.
Delicious food, varied menu. We had brunch, great Bloody Mary. Calm and relaxed with nice view in the middle of Dublin. Staff v helpful yet laid back
G. F.
Lovely restaurant and very welcoming and friendly staff. Relaxed atmosphere and very good choice and quality of food. The only negative is that in my opinion, lunch menu is way over priced.
P. A.
Had dinner for New Year's Eve with my family and had the fixed price menu, amazing food and service! We were all delighted and full.
They have no kid menu but were open to preparing something special for my 4-year old niece.
T. S.
The quality of the food is excellent, but the side dishes are not very appealing, it is mostly potatoes and cabbage. Desserts are very good. The staff is nice, efficient service, but the restaurant is a bit noisy
e. m.
Was there on a Saturday lunchtime. It's a well positioned restaurant, near Ha'penny bridge. It's well named because its up a winding stairs! No good for anyone with mobility issues. They don't offer a lunch menu on Saturday n Sunday, it's just brunch. I'd have prefered a propper lunch menu. The Brunch M. required time to read n "digest". It seemed a bit longwinded, I was in need of sustenance by The time I got through it! I had the "smokey" fish platter. It was meant to be for sharing but I had It just for me. It was only just slightly too much for one - largely because of the two slabs of bread. It was very delish. The waitress told me what everything was on my board, helpful. The tables are a little close to each other but once the conversation flows you tend to forget about that. It was a very lovely occasion. I'd like to go again but not when its just "Brunch" days.
T. K.
Absolutely delicious food, great service and atmosphere. It is a little pricey, but you definitely get what you pay for. Limited vegetarian options, but what you can get is wonderful and feels like a well thought out meal, rather than a token vegetarian option.
L. H.
You need to find your way to finally arrive at this lovely location! ;) prices are rather high but food is worth it! My personal favorite was the brownie with white chocolate ice, I love it! When you want to be sure that you get a table better give them a call.
:)
F. C.
Excellent restaurant with unique menu. It is bright with fine views of the Liffey but wonderful to see the chef and his team effortlessly produce a wide variety of perfect dishes
D. T.
A fantastic pre-theatre menu. The rich and creamy 'smokies' starter was amazing. The pork neck steak with black and white pudding potato croquette, with pickled apricots was even better (honestly, one of the best mains I've had in a long time). The sticky pear and ginger cake was a great finish.
G. O.
I love this restaurant. It is our go to place for any special occasion. The food is delicious and is great for vegetarians also. Good quality ingredients, and a fab view over the Liffey. Highly recommended.
M. S.
Ok I know it is going to be more expensive in Dublin than elsewhere but I was shocked how this place can charge such high prices for basic bistro food and wine. I paid 45 euro for a bottle of "house" Cava and wines were from 25-30 euro upwards. The food was really disappointing, it sounded nice on the menu but was not so good on the plate. We were told the lamb and the duck both came "pink", so why did it come "well done"? If you put "crispy pigs ear" on the menu then it feature as a main component of the dish and not just as "garnish" as we were told. Desserts were very poor, bread and butter pudding was a solid square which I had trouble putting my spoon through and the chocolate pudding was wobbly and tasted like it had been made of chocolate "substitute". The one good dish of the evening was the sole. The atmosphere was good too.
C. M.
Great place for brunch - good food - good service in a big white airy room over looking the Liffey. The Bloody Mary's were a thing of beauty. The book shop below is good for browsing in too.
I.
Great food but overpriced for the steak we got ....it was a tasty meal but 90 euro for 2 people just mains and a btl of house wine !!! Even by Dublin standards felt it was alot
s.
This was a phenomenal dining experience. Truly memorable, in all great ways. The Winding Stair has a rather rustic vibe with a very upscale modern menu served so unpretentiously by a superb waitstaff. The location is Dublin charming and pretty cool: just above an awesome bookstore, along the River Liffey, and right near the North side of the Ha'penny Bridge.
Dinner was just superb. The staff was fantastic. Started with a phenomenal beef carpaccio layered with hard cheese shavings and olive oil drizzle, accompanied by a pile of rugula and radicchio on top of pear slices poached in mulled wine, with toasted walnut halves.
The main was a very Dublin dish, but truly elevated. A roasted Haddock and onion on top of a celeriac mash in a nicely herbal white sauce. The fish was so perfectly cooked, and I asked the waiter to surprise me with a wine paring of his choice with each course. For this course a lovely dry white that perfectly accompanied the sweet, salty notes of the dish.
My waiter then blew me away by pouring two glasses to accompany the cheese/dessert dish: a fresh strawberry wine for the milder cheeses, and then a rich port for the more pungent cheeses. Wow! I told him afterwards that it was like being in a wine and cheese pairing class. With each cheese and each wine, I kept going back and forth, and back and forth again and again to see how each influenced the other and how the flavors kept developing. How fun.
Why don't I do this more often? It certainly isn't cheap (although seemed quite reasonably priced compared to NY prices), but it's oh so worth it. Highly, highly recommended!
P. O.
Delicious hearty food, excellent selection of wine and service was very pleasant and not to pushy. Highly recommend.
C. L.
Great meal with excellent service. Lovely atmosphere too. The wine list is very well put together with huge choice available. Will certainly be back
G. M.
Scott Egg starter with Duck Confitte was disappointing. Duck must have flown away, a vague sense of it surrounding the egg.
Not much of a starter for €13.50
Main course was sole @ €24, very small portion. Still had the skin on it. Veggies were nothing much a new potatoe and a carrot.
Wine list extensive.
Lussac St.Emillion was delicious once it had a chance to breath.
Good value @ €44
Other diners,
overcooked fish.
Steak ordered med to well, arrived pretty blue.
Staff friendly, place packed.
Nice atmosphere, but definitely left with a sense of not enough on the plate.
J. 9.
Best steak I’ve ever had living in Europe for 10 years. Almost as good as the steak in Texas. Great service. FYI - No beer.
M. M.
Best quality on all the plates we ordered. Service was excellent. The only problem is that it's a bit noisy, but when you are experiencing the sublime taste of the food, you forget the noise.
J. N.
Best food and guest experience in Dublin so far for me (house wine not recommended), tasteful interior design with a view, high skilled professional staff in the kitchen and on the floor for a very reasonable price.
R. D.
Delicious food, really cool, trendy space, and very friendly and knowledgeable staff. A bit pricier than some places, but its fine dining quality without the hassle, pretense and ego. Highly recommend.
R. D.
Best food box we've gotten in lockdown by far. Great customer service, couldn't recommend enough!
l. r.
Amazing meal. Awesome atmosphere. Fantastic service. It was a memorable experience to say the least and I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a dining experience while in Dublin.
B. F.
An expansive restaurant that serves food over priced probably to pay for amount of words used to describe each dish on the menu. It has a lovely ambiance and is a nice looking restaurant, but (and i had the steak) i fail to see how the quality of food is worth the cost.
J. H.
Excellent menu, beautiful presentation of food. Very noisy on a Saturday night and a bit cramped, but overall a lovely restaurant. Excellent attention from staff
N. L.
Charming place!! One of my favorites in Dublin. Local food, nice atmosphere and good service. The views to the river are lovely. Totally recommended
N. K.
Beautiful, narrow and elegant restaurant by the river, with very helpful and polite stuff, offering a rather rich list of choices both for food as well as for drinks and desserts. The main course was somewhat lower than our expectations and the overall cost a wee bit higher than what we anticipated
P. D.
Really nice food & bread. They were able to make the squash roast vegan for me which was nice by removing the cheese. It was ok! Little bit too healthy though. Nice service.
A. Z.
The food is simply delicious. I had fish and it was the best I've ever eaten. The sauce was spectacular. The atmosphere and the view are great. A bit expensive but you pay for the quality so it's totally worth it. Would recommend.
D. W.
This is in such a perfect location. The food, drink and service are great too.
A. J.
Great atmosphere, excellent uniquely prepared food, wide ranging menus to include partridge, venison and smoked fish amongst others, friendly efficient service and comprehensive wine list.

Great food in general but my breakfast waffles were hard and the allocated space during Christmas dinner was a bit uncomfortable. A really good restaurant with friendly staff. Good choice for company events.
J. L.
Food was delicious. Good selection of wine by the glass. Cozy atmosphere with good but not great service. Would certainly return on another visit to Dublin.
s. b.
I went to the Winding Stair with my parents before my parchment ceremony. I thought the food, staff and atmosphere was excellent. Its often hard to find a place that we will all enjoy without paying through the nose so I had to do a bit of research before booking- tge Winding Stair did not dissapoint.
We had a main, dessert and glass of wine for roughly 20 euro, which I thought was great value for the quality of the food. The lamb was tender, the vegetables fresh and delicious. We all enjoyed the desserts including the bread and butter pudding with whiskey sauce, the rasberry Cranachan and the ginger and pear cake.
The waitress who served us advised us on the best dishes on the menu and was very friendly and attentive without hovering. All in all I would definitely reccomend it.
J. R.
The food was awesome, service was great, prices were reasonable. There were 5 of us, and we all loved our dishes.
G. K.
We have dinner at this place once a year and It's always a highlight of our time in Dublin. The food is delicious, the choice of wines splendid and the staff is very welcoming and caring.
M. D.
Amazing Irish food. Fun local wines and flavors, will definitely be going back if we can get another reservation:)
R. M.
Eclectic mix of breakfast/brunch items all well thought out and perfectly executed. Great wine menu. Coffee was amazingly chocolatey: rich Darm and bitter.
V. M.
Great experience of one of the famous Irish whiskey. Tour guide was excellent. I learned a lot of information about making whiskey and drinking whiskey. It was interactive, funny and tasty.
K. S.
Lovely restaurant. Fantastic food and a great view. Go at sunset to see a particularly beautiful scene. Great wine selection. Perfect for a special occasion.
B. P.
Excellent food and service!
F. N. D.
Best steak and irish food in dublin! Excellent selection of wines! I think this is one of the most romantic restaurants in Dublin, excellent views out over the river liffey and really cosy food inside.
G. D.
Wonderful Staff.Amazing menu. The only problem was making choices. However, for desert you will not beat the bread and butter pudding with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. HEAVENLY.
M. M.
Fantastic food.
Amazing service from the wait staff...BUT
I go here regularly when I have a team event or visitors from the US but this is my last visit while the current maître'd works there. He needs a new career, incredibly rude, arrogant and no concept of service. His attitude ruined an otherwise perfect evening.
E.
Nice location, friendly staff, good atmosphere and fair price. Food is decent but my raw steak was medium, the chicken was a bit overcooked and the side dish was too hot - so -1 for that.
S. S.
Great food, good service. Somewhat limited space, had to call in reservation but it was a Wednesday night and they were able to seat us 30min later at 845pm.
T. D.
Lovely relaxed but attentive atmosphere and great food. Had lunch here with a friend. Great menu with innovative dishes.
S. W.
Food is fine. Over priced like most in that area. Unfortunately service was very slow - including getting drinks. Seats are very close together so don't expect any privacy.
A. B.
It's a lovely restaurant though I find it overpriced for that quality. But do be sure it's a good food, just too expensive. But the wine list is extensive and sort of compensates it.
G. B.
A nice little place myself and my girlfriend went for my birthday lunch to. Food was delicious and the service top class. Not the first time and definitely won't be the last.
g. c.
Nice restaurant. Pork tasty. VERY overpriced. Wouldn't go again as Dublin has such a great choice of restaurants using quality food at much lower prices.
M. W.
Great location and views of the Liffey. The food was good but there was very little down time between courses. Considering we had a booking it felt rushed.
M. C. N.
We got a table by the window, with a nice view over the Liffey.
Both dishes, pollock and duck, were superb. We were happy that the Portuguese red wine Azamor was among the list, which was a good choice to go with these dishes.
To finish this wonderful meal, we chose the apple and pear crumble with cinnamon ice cream. Perfect!
It just bothered me that I constantly had to call the waiter for more water... but it was a small detail. I still want to come back.
J. S.
Food was pretty good, but not amazing. The place a little cramped so you will dine close to your neighbor in the table next to you. It was good, but I would not rush back.
N. M.
Absolutely delicious meal with a modern Irish twist!
B. M.
This is one of the best restaurants in Dublin. Food and wine excellent for all occasions. The seafood chowder is a must have.
D. L.
My second time to eat here. Still a nice place and great service but food was a little more blend than on my previous visit and definitely pricier.
K. P.
Food was good, ok, but slightly overpriced. With same money you can easily find better quality in Dublin. Didn't try desserts though. Nice service and atmosphere.
S. M.
Excellent all-around! High end menu, great wine list, attentive service. Makes an experience out of a dinner.
J.
The food is great and the atmosphere matches it. A lovely spot to eat although they aren't the biggest portions but that's no problem.
W. S. M.
Great place for it's location (great view of the ha'penny bridge) and it's food (traditional at its best!).
Cozy and traditional decoration, staff is friendly and can recommend you the best options on the menu, just ask them! :-)
P. K.
Good food, quaint atmosphere. Good selection of food options. The layout of the place is pretty confined, isn't wouldnt be a problem, except it was quite stuffy and warm due to lack of air flow.
R. P.
One of the better restaurants I've been inti for a while... The fish starter player is out of this world and all the food was amazing... Friends, helpful, and hardworking staff.
k. s.
Looks good, sounds amazing. Food under-whelming despite great provenance. Real food lovers will be disappointed. Many better options available in this bracket.
J. M.
This is a hidden gem. If you’re lucky enough to find you won’t be disappointed. The waiter (from Chicago) great service. The food is excellent.
H. M.
Had a lovely meal ....went at 16.20 and was asked if we wanted lunch even though got the wrong meal (my second choice though) everything was lovely even the service. Staff did apologise and said it was on the house. Could not fault anything in the restaurant very quaint
W. G.
Excellent food based on fresh seasonal ingredients, attentive but unfussy service. Great place to eat.
P. G.
Great food
Nice staff
D. H.
A nice Irish place with a well-rounded menu. I'd stay away from the chorizo - seafood chowder (weird combo), but would definitely recommend their ray wing.
B. C.
Food was nice, the atmosphere was good. The chair I was sitting on was very flimsy, and creeked whenever I moved. Felt like it could break at anytime. I noticed a lot of the other chairs where in a similar state.
A. M.
We came here as a couple and really enjoyed it. Great food and attentive staff. I'd recommend this place to anyone. Only one downside is that it is quite expensive - but probably expect that in this type of restaurant.
B. C.
Great food and wine. Venison tartare was amazing. Brought guests from US and Brazil and it was great to be able to demonstrate quality Irish food
H. B.
The most amazing little restaurant with views of the ha'penny bridge. Food was absolutely amazing and lots of choice. Will definitely come again next time I'm in Dublin!
P. S.
Amazing food, good wines, lovely atmosphere. Very friendly staff. great place to go.
C.
Should have a Michelin star absolutely fantastic
T. D.
This is my special place to eat in Dublin so Waze top of my list but due back early because it gets booked out very quickly and in advance the window seats are fabulous with a lovely view over the river good range of vegetarian options staff are very attentive with a great wine list
L. K.
Only went once for diner, it was good, the waitress was friendly. Just a bit disappointed as the wine we selected wasn't available and the one offered instead wasn't nice.
T. G.
A fantastic, relaxed atmosphere, warm service and quality food. Highly recommend if you are visiting Dublin and want a good meal and wine.
E. D.
Great venue, service is excellent. Food is good but over priced on the la carte. The pre-theatre menu is better value.
J. O. B.
This is a lovely restaurant with great views over the Liffey and Hapenny Bridge. It's been a while since I was there but the wait staff were excellent and the food was amazing. Definitely worth a visit.
E. M.
I had the strip steak. It was tougher than I expected, and not juicy. The potatoes were crispy and tasty. The service was outstanding.
N. V.
Quality service and carefully selected ingredients on the menu combined with a warm atmosphere and nice view! This place lives up to it's history!
I. C.
Great Monday lunch. Yellow beetroot was a first. Really good Dunmore East sole. Wasnt nuts about the razor fish, but thats just me. Great staff too.
S. L.
Cosy restaurant overlooking the ha'penny bridge. Went in for the pre theatre menu .... lads it was delicious!! Each course was cooked to perfection and expertly presented..... wonderful little gem in the city centre I would highly recommend it!!
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
.. T.
Great food and service. Need to book well in advance since it's pretty popular restaurant. Great view over Liffey river.
S. B.
Food here is great, and so are the Liffey views. You won’t be disappointed, since there are indeed winding stairs leading to the dining area 🙂
W. M.
Very good, but not exceptional. While absolutely accommodating, this well run establishment lacks attention to detail. Please take this review as a critique, not a condemnation. Be sure to make reservations.
T. H.
Had steak and eggs! Steak was cooked med rare; which is what I asked for!!! The food was delicious as well! The kitchen has it together!! A must visit
P. D.
The price of the food is well worth the delightful atmosphere and the excellent service. The seats by the windows offer some of the best views of the Liffey anywhere in the city.
D.
Food was generally very good and the view over the Liffey there is lovely. Only issues were how loud it is and maybe a bit overpriced.
C. T.
Mouth watering menu did not disappoint the food and wine are amazing I will definitely be back. Service was great too
E. M.
Great food and very friendly service. Nice views. Great to see the chef cooking in his kitchen.
T.
Brilliant food, expensive but well worth it. Great service, friendly, funny and professional, interesting views facing outside and inside. An all round pleasure
P. L.
Excellent experience! Outstanding service and cuisine! Cozy place with a nice view of the Liffey river and Ha'penny bridge.
J. E.
My husband proposed to me in this restaurant so I love it. High quality food in a slightly snug restaurant over several floors. No disabled access due to the "winding stair"
M. O. S.
I had the panna cotta starter with the pork belly for mains. Both of these were good, the pork especially. The potatoes with the pork were poor though.
S. D.
Great restaurant with fresh and well prepared food. Staff is nice and friendly. Good choice for dinner in Dublin!
S. R.
Nice restaurant, ambient atmosphere, nice staff. Food not to my pallet but will definitely suits others, lots of game/offal etcetera good experience though
T. R.
Excellent meal, great wine, classic french cooking- beautiful Table view over the Liffey.
Would recommend.
M. G.
Great food, nice ambiance and good service. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the sirloin steak and the duck breast for dinner.
K. D.
Second time I had dinner here, and as good as the first time, two years ago. Traditional but not boring, on the contrary.
A. J.
Don’t share reviews usually, but felt compelled to give one. This place is fantastic. Service was great, food was great. Thank you!
F. L. N.
Great smoked haddock, cockles, and mussels! Service is outstanding.
And don't forget to get the bread and butter pudding
YES
S. C.
Had a fantastic meal here. The food is excellent and the service is stellar. Make sure to make a reservation.
D. H.
Everything was nice but some courses were a bit heavy. A lot of butter in the dishes I'd ordered
H. I.
Great food overall, but because they only cook with fresh produce, some dishes seem experimental and underwhelming.
B. C.
Lovely restaraunt with great views over the Liffey " if you can get a window seat!" Quite small inside so definitely make a reservation.
P. J. W.
Top quality food in a pleasant place, nicely located by the river. Even by Dublin standards the lunch is expensive though.
L. C.
An excellent bistro style menu with great service. A real Dublin gem
K. B.
Lovely food though we were a little tightly packed....a large booking....I'd go back but perhaps with a smaller party
R. D.
Great food, super location, excellent staff. Make sure to book ahead as it's a very popular spot.
M. M.
Great food and service. Went there twice; on our second visit the manager accomodated our on-the-spot request to be seated by the window!
M. M.
Fantastic lovely food, lovely wine, lovely view over the halfpenny bridge and river liffey, and pleasantly served, really enjoyed the experience
R. T.
Lovely restaurant with amazing local sourced food. Attentive wonderful service and such a warm cozy ambience. Highly recommended!!
g. t.
Amazing food great drink selection. Cant say enough reserve early and enjoy all the dishes you can.
K. P.
A beautiful setting for a fantastic meal. The winding stairs dedicstion to local and seasonal food is surpassed by none. I'd highly recommend going here whenever you get a chance!
C. M.
Great not too cheffy food. Casual but good service and if you're lucky, a view over Dublin's Ha'penny Bridge.
O. T.
As of an hour ago i had no idea where Winding Stair was or even that it served food, i immediately thought it was a bookstore. Having never been there myself it would be unfair to rate the food however they do have nice decor!
N. O. C.
I have been here a few times. The food has been great. The staff are helpful and friendly. Great experience.
T. C.
Great place for food: lovely ambiance, great view on the Liffey, service is very nice and the food is really great
M. F.
Great Food, very fresh and the staff is very friendly, very good- you must visit when you are in Dublin - typical Irish dishes in a modern presentation and almost Irish people here
B. S.
Very good food, I definitely recommend it and try to get one of the tables by the window to enjoy a nice view on the river Liffey
S. S.
Their steaks and wines are amazing. The atmosphere and staff are great also. Worth the bit expensive price.
S. G.
Gorgeous. Not really very cheap but of such a really good quality that it's worth investing for a good occasion. I really recommend cockles and mussels, and a great beef carpaccio to start.
M.
We went for a Saturday brunch - short menu but very weirdly designed and is hard to read. Food was good.
J. W.
Delicious, generous portions in a light and open atmosphere. The bread pudding an sticky pear pudding was amazing!
B. L.
Went for brunch, all 8 of us ordered different dishes. Food was okay, but the coffee was good and the service friendly.
L. S.
A very stylish dining place with good foodfor reasonable money. Service tends to be friendly, but they seem to have baf days too :)
B. W.
Very good overall, but some items are more ordinary than others, such as the ray.
Chautrese board was superb, including the venison, and the ambiance is cute.
S. G.
I had pork cheeks and a scotch egg for my main, it was absolutely delicious! Couldn't fault the place, everything was great from start to finish
N. B.
Food is excellent, great service, lovely atmosphere. Love going here for special occasions or a special treat.
J. C.
Excellent food, drink and service.
Make sure this is at the top of your list for restaurants in Dublin!
M. N.
bright room on the upper level, organic food served and very delicios . Our hostess was friendly . Would recommend
B. B.
Best eggs Benedict I've ever had.
J. L.
Pretty good food, excellent atmosphere, nice view to see the half pense bridge.
N. O.
Fantastic seafood. Great service. Don't under estimate the portion size, though. We were overwhelmed.
J. Ż.
Elegant place, attentive service, tasty food...
J. A.
Went there with a friend that was visiting me for few days, discovered it with Foursquare, very discreet restaurant, nice view on the Liffey, and the food is delightful, the meat was amazing, and with a good glass of wine, the ambiance is really calm, we went there in a late lunch time so that's maybe why, but i trully recommend that restaurant, the staff knows what they are doing, and they're doing it really well.
A. P. L.
Great food, great service and cosy environment. Best food ordered during four days in Dublin.
S. T.
Unique dining experience in Dublin. Small and quaint setting with good food and nice views.
M. A.
Excellent food and super service as usual.
The pre theatre/early bird is good value too.
A. L.
Excellent service, very helpful staff and lovely food, good value wine too.
G. H.
Amazing menu and food, small cafe with views of the river and heaps of atmosphere. Recomend the parsnip for brunch.
M. T.
One of the best meals I've ever had in Dublin! A real treat for a special occasion.
A. V.
As far as I am concerned we could not end up better in Dublin. Great place. Great staff and most of all great food!!!
A. C.
Enjoyed my lunch. Unusual menu but definitely worth a visit
D. A.
Delicious seafood, excellent wine, and wonderful service. A great meal all around!
M. T.
Even though the food is decent, I think it's an overrated restaurant - the menu is limited and the prices are quite expensive.
M. V.
Pretty good food and cozy atmosphere. Table service was a bit sporadic.
E. T.
Awesome food!
A. Y.
All around very good.
J. S.
Irish high-end cuisine at its best with wines to match. Lively and loud, which may not be for all, but we loved it!
A. S.
One of the standard bearers for fresh and hearty contemporary Irish fare. Friendly staff and magnificent views of the Liffey.
D. M.
Fabulous! High quality food, great service and views. Not the cheapest but the prices do match what you get.
L. D.
Great restaurant. Good food. Good service. A bit loud. Reservation needed.
N. R.
AMAZING. Quaint. Small. Personable. So cute and delicious- try the haddock and the venison !
D. S.
Dissapointing service and overpriced food -- I expected much more from a place I had heard so much about. That being said, the dessert made up for it a bit
E. R.
Updated: over priced with no real substance. Went here for dinner last year and got the steak, really tasty with the melting garlic butter
P. F.
Very high standard of grub here, nice atmosphere and very good staff, ticks all the boxes, no wonder it's there as long as it is and is still busy.
S. S.
Lovely cosy little Irish stew. Seafood chowder and venison is outstanding.
C. M.
Clogherhead mussels and chunky chips = a very happy me. Service and food impeccable.
E. F.
Interesting menu and good quality dining experience. Beautiful view and excellent service.

Food was very nice but pricey. Busy place full of tourists and locals. Good service.
A. P.
Amazing food, very nice wait staff and wine selection!
A. W.
Food was delish, views were great, server was lovely and knowledgeable.
M. A.
Loved the dinner but hated breakfast: Uninspired, boring. Also the staff was pretty arrogant.
D. S.
Best restaurant in Dublin. Extremely well trained staff and good menu
S. B.
Food was amazing, service was good - next time I come to Dublin I will definitely be coming back
N. P.
Great little restaurant just across the river from Temple bar. Modern Irish cuisine in a comfy setting
G. M.
Excellent and varied menu... also a contender for the best bloody mary in Dublin!
D. S.
Nice spot for lunch. Good food in a bistro setting. Good wine selection.
C. W.
Delicious food! Cosy atmosphere. Forgot how much I like this place - must return soon.
