WOW: The best food experience I've had in Ireland.
Where to start? The cosy, warm and snug atmosphere is deceiving; you'd be forgiven to think you're in just another small local eatery.
The floor staff are all ridiculously knowledgeable of the menu they're serving on the night, but also of the provenance of the ingredients and of the Irish food scene in general. The manager was also a hive of info on the Irish food scene, and provided great chats throughout the night.
The food is mind-blowingly good. I genuinely broke into a smile/laugh on multiple occasions over how tasty and creative the dishes were.
Pair this with the fact that the chefs themselves serve you (and one/some of the many wines on their list) and you get a truly fantastic experience.
To address the two elephants in the room; yes the portions are 'Michelin-sized' and yes it's pricey. On the former; you get 18 dishes so you will 100% be full. On the latter; for the food and experience you get, it isn't actually that expensive.
Long story short, if you can get a table, go for it!

Amazing, exciting food. Such a lovely experience, no formalities, just all about the food and wine. Had the 18 course tasting menu which sounds daunting, but is so skillfully composed and elegant that you're not overwhelmed. Lovely, hospitable staff.

Delicious food and incredible staff. Truly a must do experience when in Galway! The chef is intimately involved and will come out to tell you about the dishes as well as just chat about the restaurant and Ireland overall. The staff were incredibly helpful / attentive. Even went as far as taking us on a gin tasting tour and changing our perspective on the spirit. Absolutely would recommend.

Brilliant experience. Went for the tasting menu. Standout elements: oysters, best I have ever tasted. Venison superb. Brown bread top class. Mussels to die for. Waitresses very down to earth and approachable, and knowledgeable. Great wine. Highly recommended.

Amazing meal with amazing service. We had the ten course tasting menu with matched drinks and it was just incredible. Everything was perfect! Quite hard to pick a favorite dish even. The only sad part was leaving. Can't rate it highly enough for a great dining experience.

It was our first experience and we were completely delighted. We had the 18 meal tasting menu and every plate was simply wonderful.
It was one of our best experiences in our life and the staff was really nice to us. Definitely I would recommend to come to this place, no one can get disappointed with this quality.

It was amazing. Such a memorable night. Food was and wine was out of this world, fantastic. Loved every minute. It was expensive but worth ever penny. We will definitely go back. Jp was so nice to us as were all the staff. 5 stars all the way.

This place is the crown Jewel in a family of quality restaurants within the Barcelona area. Google the phrase " best paella in Barcelona," and no less than one or two of their establishments, including Aniar, go be in your list of results. Expect to need to make reservations, even for lunch. The food was great, the wine was perfectly matched, and the "cookie" dessert with violet ice cream might be my favorite dessert I have ever had after the rich duck rice paella dish. I can't recommend this place enough; go. Go now. You will not be disappointed!

Booking in advance is essential. Small 30seater or so restaurant. From pigeon to venison - your taste buds will be tested! A wonderful German Sommelier is ready to guide you in wine pairing and the wait staff are knowledgeable and engaging in what was a wonderful culinary experience.

Great service and very unique foods! Lots of local foods and ingredients involved and I really enjoyed this very different foods!

Fabulous food experience! 😋 18 course tasting menu, everything was delicious!

The food was absolutely amazing! We did the 8 course meal with the wine pairing and everything was exceptional. Truthfully, it is probably some of the best food I, as well as the group, have ever eaten. The staff took the time to explain every meal, tell us about where the products came from, and why the wine paired well with the course. Absolutely would recommend to anyone thinking about going. Make a reservation and be amazed and delighted at how incredible everything tastes. Could not rave about Aniar enough. 10/10 AMAZING!

What a fab experience, was actually lovely not to have to select from menu and get to try everything, food was so fresh and great presentation by great staff who made time to explain the dishes and there origins..

A delightful and wonderful gastronomic delight. A small and cosy setting with nice ambience to have a really enjoyable food journey. Tasting menu was of choice for the evening, all the dishes were perfect, full of flavour, full of art and full of energy. Excellent wine pairings to match the culinary delight. Some fantastic obscure wines were hadwith pleasure. Fantastic service to match the food. Will always return and highly recommend

One of the best examples of Irish cuisine and hospitality in Ireland

My wife and I had a lovely experience here. It was a tasting menu of locally sourced ingredients. We also went for the wine pairings at €60/head which I would recommend wholeheartedly if you are looking to enhance your experience. The staff were friendly and extremely knowledgable. All in all a 10 out of 10 if your are looking for something you won't experience almost anywhere else in the country. Perfectly suit to Galway.

My absolute favorite spot to eat in Dublin, full stop. The granular attention to detail was commendable. Every part of the meal from presentation to first bite was meticulously planned. Servers were attentive and professional, and did an excellent job of anticipating needs. They accommodated my girlfriend's dietary needs without batting an eye, which considering their carefully chosen 6 course menu was impressive to say the least. All ingredients and even flatware/utensils were locally sourced and were of superb quality. The back of the menu even lists every single supplier and their town. Each course was small and bursting with flavor, yet left you feeling full by the end. I will say that some of the ingredients may seem adventuresome, but not one was out of place. The menu changes daily, so no visit will ever be the same as the last. Aniar is a must-visit for tourists and locals alike.

This place is worth every good review it gets!! It deserves 10 stars. Hands done one of the best meals we have ever had. Will be talking about the duck and the cheese custard for a very long time. The wine pairings were simply brilliant. Run to eat here, it is totally worth it!

As spectacular as you would hope. A welcoming experience from arriving to leaving. Amazing team working there.

This was an evening to remember. It’s a tour through Irish tastes and Irish experiences and executed to perfection. Other than the wine, everything is made from local ingredients. The combinations of flavors are creative yet pleasant and they focus on one or two core flavors per course. The portions are just right for the 8 course menu and the service is friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. I loved some of the quirky desserts and the experiments with fermentation throughout the meal. The wine pairing was excellent.

Top class! Just finished a day long Christmas cookery course from 10A to 1800. Great fun in cosy surroundings & cooked everything ourselves
Several types of vegetables as well as traditional Turkey and ham dish. Even got to use a blow torch for desert!
Nice touch to allow us take home lots of delicious food & everyone gets a bonus Aniar apron!
Highly recommend this special experience ;)

One of the best experiences I have ever had in a restaurant. Absolutely faultless staff and food. Even catered their tasting menu to my shellfish allergy at very short notice. Thanks for making a great even better. We will be back.
S. K.
Amazing food, all locally sourced. Had the 10 course tasting menu, was expecting to need a meal after lots of little plates, but I was fully satisfied after the meal! Friendly and knowledgeable staff, great that everyone is involved in foraging the food. Worth every penny

One of my favorite restaurants in Galway. Aniar uses a creative yet still tasty way to let customers experience the best of Irish local food. Very modern, with some Japanese techniques in the dishes. I really like the spring menu (I went there on 22nd of March), from the appetizer (pork belly), to the garlic bread(I also love the soda bread last winter..), to the lamb and even the last dessert with wine. They surprised me!! And service has always been great:))
B. M.
If I could rate the food separately from the service, I would give the food 5 stars and the service 4. Unfortunately I can't rate them separately, so Aniar gets 4 stars. The food itself was amazing (especially the mountain strawberry dessert which was incredible).
My girlfriend and I had the 8 course and it took pretty much exactly 3 hours as was promised. However, the pace felt off. We got "snacks" before we were able to order drinks, the bread (which seemed to be treated as its own standalone course) course overlapped with the following one, and it seemed like people around us were getting courses served at quicker pace despite arriving after us. There was also a moment where we were asked if we wanted a break which seemed odd since it was at a time in the tasting menu where things were feeling very slow. I'd venture to say that the 3 hours could be condensed to 2.5 with great success. The waitstaff themselves were very friendly though so I'm not that upset. I would still come back here to eat the next time I'm in Galway.
J. F.
Lovely food and wine, especially loved the desserts. Restaurant has a good atmosphere and staff excellent.
Only problem is the amount of food, far to little, had to go and get a snack after dining😟 For 200 euro for 2 people you need to be satisfied after spending that amount of money.

Wow, really fun experience.
We had the 6 course + wine tasting menu. It was really fun. All the dishes and all the accompanying different wines were delicious.
Friendly staff. Chatty but non intrusive. Described all dishes and wines extensively.
We really enjoyed this experience.

This place is a gem. We came by this place while researching our visit to Galway and it sounded like something we should not pass up. And we are glad we didn't. From start to finish it was a most memorable experience. The entire staff was incredibly welcoming, attentive, and friendly and engaged us throughout the meal, making sure we were enjoying ourselves. The food was incredibly creative, unique, and delicious. Overall it was a visit we will never forget and hopefully get to repeat at some point in the future.

Michelin star hotel. Food and presentation: outstanding! We went here for dinner with a 7 month old baby and the staff were so nice and tried to make us as comfortable as possible. We ordered only a main each with side but they brought also complimentary amuse bouche for starter and complimentary chocolates so in the end we had 3 courses for the price of one. The mains are expensive, but with the extra free bits it was incredibly good value. Looking forward to going back!

An amazing dining experience: quite frankly one of the best I've ever had! ANIAR offers a most wonderful way of discovering the beauty of Western Irish food. Our hostLouise was absolutely fabulous and made is feel like truly valued guests, explaining every dish in full detail and with such care and attention. The Sommelier was one of the best I've ever whitnessed, knowing everything about every wine. The food... Brilliant! The setting: cozy and warm and informal. The true beauty: despite the MICHELIN 🌟 ANIAR stays friendly and nice, a wonderful achievement!
B. K.
OK. Clearly aiming in the Michelin star tasting menu, but for me, a bit blunt and unfocused. Many of the dishes have a seafood focus, understandable from the region and terroir theme, but unfortunately they suffer from a blandness, a subtlety and lack of bold flavours, and when the flavours ventured towards the bold, they tended to be quite fishy. If you enjoy tasty food, rather than intellectually stimulating food, you'll be underwhelmed. Overall, there wasn't enough contrast in flavour or mouthfeel for me in too many of the dishes. I'm glad I went, but almost every course, I could live the rest of my life without ever repeating.
I feel I've had enough sea vegetables / green substances from the beach to last for a good decade, at least.
If you have to choose between this and Loam, I'd go with Loam. If going to both, I'd go to Aniar first.
K. D.
My husband and i did the 8 course tasting during our irish honeymoon. It was delightful! You dont get to choose what you eat, so you should only do this if you have a wide-ranged palette. I suggest the wine/drink pairings with dinner, it really is paired so perfectly. Overall, for 2 we spent approximately 400 euros.
T. R.
Superb! Small and cozy premises. Went for 8 course tasting menu. Every course was full of flavour. All well deserving its Michelin star. Definitely will be back!
R. E.
A great food experience. Come expecting not to like everything you are served but enjoy the challenge of broadening your tastes. We felt a bit rushed but that may have been down to our 9pm booking time.
C. K.
Aniar was a very good experience. The food was inspiring and good with a local touch. The food was made from local ingredients from the area around and paired with wine from most of Europe. The somalier need a standing applause for the choices of wine they was interesting and fit to dices. Wine you would not have tried if not for somalier.
I recommend Aniar and would go again if visting Galway.
E. H.
Staff appeared happy, knowledgable, confident, warm and relaxed which really contributed to positive atmosphere within Aniar.
As someone who is allergic to dairy and doesn't eat red meat, eating out can be precarious and nerve-wracking even if I let restaurant people know about this in advance. But right from when I alerted them to my needs when booking through to the end of the meal, the staff were so kind and understanding.
I would recommend Aniar to anyone as the quality of the food is so high but especially to those who have allergies and need a wee break from the raised eyebrow 'ara would you cop on to yourself' attitude of restaurant staff in Ireland.

Amazing

Aniar pairs Michelin star chef JP McMahon with masterful, award-winning sommelier Zsolt Lukács.The result is a spectacular seasonal tasting menu crafted from local ingredients.
Served in a refreshingly down-to-earth and accessible way, you'll find your table filled with both the curious and familiar, sometimes hand gathered by the very staff preparing your meal. Wines are paired by course, of which there will be many, and every selection will pique your interest and excite your palate.
Expect to be overhelmed by a fabulous dining experience, a warm and gregarious staff, and wine service that will take you on a wirlwind tour of modern viticulture.
The atmosphere is relaxed, but make no mistake; this is science, scholarship and high art at work. Aniar truly is modern Irish haute cuisine, and perhaps more precisely, modern Galway at it's finest.
T. T.
Amazing place, worth every penny. The service is fabulous couldn't complain about anything at all. Also definitely recommend the Drink pairing it is so well taught out and the sommelier is extremely nice.

Cosy, intimate & friendly restaurant with impeccably executed unique dishes. Staff are warm & welcoming & attentive throughout the dining experience without being intrusive. Looking forward to going back already.

Really different; worthy of it's hype, staff so nice and enthusiastic -perhaps too much brassica based foams throughout but all courses executed to minute detail. All in all a super dining experience.

The service was A+ and we had a great seat right by the window. Our wine was suggested by the somm from a biodynamic vineyard specializing in "terrior", the concept behind the restaurant. The food was nice but was more intent on showcasing ingredients than flavors or cooking techniques. The ingredients were very fresh but, aside from the superb duck, I would have preferred more robust flavors. Great experience all in all though!

(Translated) An extraordinary experience, you live a great history in this place, all the staff are very friendly and outgoing, a small strength of the Sommelier who was able to find us the perfect wine with our criteria and the language barrier. An experience that I will remember for a long time, thank you again and congratulations to the whole team.
