From start to finish the meal was outstanding and staff couldn't do more to look after you and make you feel welcome. Set in a beautifully refurbished 200+ church with stained glass windows, it takes your breath away as you walk in. Starters were delicious, I could have happily eaten a huge plate of the mixed croquettes alone, but the sweet peppers stuffed with cod and hake starter had a sauce that we had to ask for a bread basket to mop it all up. Mains were chicken cadiz and the beef cheek. Chicken luxuriously coated in gratinated gouda and toasted almonds, and beef that was so tender you could eat it with a spoon. The chicken dish doesn't come with its own vegetables or accompaniments which is a shame, but there are plenty of options to choose and add to it. Had a very well made and delicious buttermilk panna cotta to finish along with a lemon polenta cake which was slightly overcooked and dry, but still quite nice. We finished our evening by moving outside with a tasty jug of fresh sangria and enjoyed the beautiful outdoor terrace that Sol y Sombra has to offer. Very reasonably priced overall and well worth booking in advance as this place is busy! Thank you very much for such a lovely evening. Your reputation is well deserved.

What a lovely surprise of a place! A cheerful and beautiful Spanish tapas restaurant in a converted church in the middle of the Ring of Kerry. Dishes are delicious and tastefully served, though not large. One tapa and one main may not be enough if you're hungry! And the ambiance, even just in the courtyard, during restrictions, really seals the deal.

Really nice place. Well laid out and comfortable . The menu was compact with limited choices which was great for a change, as each dish that we tried was well presented and had great flavours. It is not like most restaurants in Ireland where you have loads of choice and can get different types of cuisine. This is truly Spanish cuisine and done well. Portion sizes are generally small but if sharing It allows you to try multiple dishes and enjoy the experience. It is a bit pricey but worth the money. It is definitely highly recommended if you want to treat yourself or partner.

A rare gem. While on holidays in Ireland we had a lucky find with this restaurant. Starting off with a really special location, an old church, which is nicely decorated. Over to the friendly and amiable staff which knows it's trade. Then the food, we so much loved it! Nicely presented, thoughtful compositions, such savory menus. We just had to visit a second time during our stay. A highly recommended venue to visit. Thanks to all the staff and chefs, keep up the good work!

A stunning historic venue, a converted 200-year-old church. Seeped in history, still with its stained glass windows and majestic arches. The restaurant serves award-winning tapas with selected wines most evenings. The space also hosts some of the most distinctive weddings as well as private functions. This is a jewel in the heart of the Reeks District.

A very interesting venue for a typically Spanish dining experience. Staff were friendly and the food was great. The visit was marred only by being asked to pay the wrong bill! The waiter was full of apologies but, as I'd paid by UK debit card, a refund & the new bill would've incurred extra charges. Fortunately, I had enough cash to make up the difference.

The bar and restaurant are locatefd in a beautifully restored early 19th century C of E church, and it generates a feeling of being cosy yet spacious. The wines are excelent and there is a vast choice. There is often high quality live music and a nice buzzy atmosphere. For a vegetarian the tapas are a little too potato based, and limited in choice and flavour although there is an asparagus dish which was very tasty. Sol y Sombre is a fantastic venue to meet up with friends and enjoy the atmosphere and the friendly ambience

Excellent venue. The conversion to restaurant for old Church of Ireland chapel has been carefully done, retaining much of the original building structure and decor. The oak is ageless and gives a lovely warm ambience to complement the original stonework. The words Hemingway immortalised in recounting of the choices facing an audience for bullfighting, find a pleasing echo right on the Ring of Kerry, which is justly renowned for it's breathtaking scenery. Any traveller who has sampled the latter in the hours of sol, will find a very pleasing retreat for some pleasurable dining in the hours of sombre. The mix of native Spanish members of staff help make the dining very authentic and the whole experience is like an oasis of the Mediterranean, just a literal stone's throw from such local favourites as Nick's Gastro Pub and Giovanelli's Restaurant, all on Lower Bridge Street.

There were a few things that were a little hit or miss, the croquettes weren't brilliant and the fish wrap was a little disappointing but the tagine was amazing and the bratata bravas were the best I've had since Barcelona. If I'm back around this kneck of the woods I will return. Service was quite slow though.
