E. J.Staying at the Redcastle Hotel practically next door to the Boathouse Restaurant , we walked over to dine on Sunday evening. Given a warm welcome and shown to our table we took our time perusing the varied menu. Amongst our party of 8 we sampled a number of starters, and chose a wide range of dishes on offer. Our food was exceptional, right from presentation, through to flavour and quantity. We were attended to by Fearghal and team of young waitresses who were friendly and accommodating. On presentation of the bill we were pleasantly surprised at the cost, considering the quality and quantity of amazing food. Here's hoping we will have reason to visit more often.
G. H.We had a beautiful meal here.Recommend the pork belly to start. It is one of the best I have ever had. The textures and flavors are all amazing. My partner had the Caesar salad which was good but nothing on the Pork. Mains were very generous portions and again were absolutely delicious. I had braised beef which fell apart as I cut it really really good. The desserts were tasty too. Yummy apple pie and a chocolate brownie. There is a lovely atomosphere in the restaurant. The decor is beautiful. Very tastefully done with a nautical theme throughout. The staff are excellent. So friendly and attentive. We look forward to coming back soon.
D.Delicious family meal. My fillet was cooked perfectly. Well seared and succulent. Tasted great with the smoked pancetta sauce. Nice change from pepper. The wife thoroughly enjoyed the salmon special. Anything in a white wine and cream sauce is right up her street! Biggest praise is from my son. He's rated the burger as No.1 in his top 5.

We had the seafood salad and chicken liver pate as starters followed by the pan fried sea bass and the monkfish and mussels coconut curry, all of which was fantastic. Greatly appreciated the amount of fresh fish on the menu. Location was lovely as the restaurant looks straight over the sea. Well worth making a detour to eat here.

T.Great to be back in the Boathouse and great to be back inside. The food and service was excellent as always and you never tire of the view. We go quite often and that is as much testament as anything else. Keep up the good work.

N. D.First meal out after lockdown and we couldn’t chosen a better. We had a delicious meal and the setting, service and atmosphere were first class. The celiac options were excellent and it was a great idea to highlight not only what was gluten free but also which meals were “celiac friendly” and could be adapted. I found the vast majority of the menu was accessible, with lots of options for those, like me, with special dietary requirements. Having chosen battered cod and chips I was not disappointed, friends opted for fillet steak, the cod special and chicken escalope - there were clean plates all around. Our deserts were delicious also. The service was provided was warm and friendly and staff could not have been more helpful. We also felt it was clear that great attention was made to make the dining experience totally safe (in light of Covid guidelines) but without being intrusive. Special mention must be given to the beautiful decor and the lovely ambience in the restaurant. The view and setting are simply stunning and would be hard to beat. A thoroughly enjoyable experience and we will definitely be back soon.

The girl who took my order listened to what I was looking for and I was amazed to actually get beautiful warm perfectly cooked for i for a change and got it exactly right

O.Back here for a second time, the first time was o.k this time was better. The group of 6 adults and 3 kids sampled pretty much the majority of the menu. Highlights, starters were all good, chicken wings were big and well dressed just like Ceaser salad, seafood chowder looked nice, lentil tabbouleh was great. Main course wise my portion wasn't massive but tasty all the same, but the big winner was my brother steak. This guy is very very picky and vocal about his steak he ordered a blue steak and specifically stated blue.. he said it was on of the best steaks he had which says alot. So well done, good cut of meat and well cooked. Everything else was spot on and the bill for everyone was very reasonable. For the 9 we had starters and most had dessert and a few drinks for n between and the bill was €300 which was very well priced. Only negative, no sides with mains. E.g my curry did not come with rice/naan etc which was surprising. Hasn't put me off going back again in the future.

Tried it out tonight and we were so impressed with everything - restaurant itself, friendly staff and fabulous food … liver pate starter was excellent and so delicious … the sirloin steak was perfect and the boathouse lasagne is a ‘must have’ - absolutely amazing and brilliant … and desserts yum and coffee great! Ever so excited and pleased to have a new local to enjoy. We plan to be back!

L. M.I think the 4.6 on Google is a little high and 4.0 on TripAdvisor is a little more accurate. I'm not a local so when I compare this place I compare it to similar in Dublin and Cork. The standard of food and drink is where this place falls short. Steak cooking grades here were a little off too. The best way I can describe it, is that the food lacks pride. In this day and age you expect to see a little decoration like a cherry tomato or a chive here and there. Also when compared to similar standard in Dublin and Cork this place is expensive. I guess it's a captive audience where Dublin and Cork would have a lot more competition. The Boathouse nothing to write home about. It's great for the community but I wouldn't travel any distance to come here. On a positive, the building is really nice, even on a table without a view. But what stood out most was how friendly and the service staff were. The girl that took our order and served the food was so sharp, that she remembered every detail in our large order. I would try this place again next Christmas because I've noticed that the owner does care and responds to every review. I just hope the owner is not the chef.

The restaurant is very tastefully decorated and a great place to see the theatre stage that is Lough Foyle.
It wasn't too busy but it's early days yet.
We had starters and mains with a bottle of Australian Shiraz.
Starters were disappointing. I had Pate and marmalade style chutney with artisan sourdough toast while my other half had the rocket, feta, pear and walnut salad.
The pate tasted good but was blitzed to to be almost runny. And there is never enough toast to spread on (no matter where I have been).
The salad great at the start but as you got deeper into the layers, the oily dressing took over. I would usually finish what C would leave but in this case it was too mushy with the remains of the feta.
The mains completely made up for the imperfect start.
I had the slow cooked lamb and C had the 10oz sirloin well done.
The steak was excellent, cooked to perfection, taste and quality to die for. It came with a nice serving of chips but with a steak like that, and pepper sauce, it was the steak that was the prize winner.
I asked for the lamb to be cooked as the chef would prefer it to be done. It was a triumph. Beautifully pink and tender in a wonderfully tasty jus with peas and baby onions. Excellent!
We didn't choose a dessert but ordered an Irish coffee and an espresso martini for me.
Rounded off the meal very well.
The service was very good. The young staff were attentive, willing to help and pleasant. The ambience was also pleasing, I really liked the mix of music played throughout the evening.
All in all it was well worth the visit. It's close enough to be our local eatery and I'm sure it will go from strength to strength in the future.
T. S.Delicious meal had with a great view across Lough Swilly. The chowder for starter was good and the mains were even better. I had their signature lasagne which I can honestly say is the best I've ever had, made from fresh with tender beef short rib in a small single portion dish. Wife had the fish which was fresh also and cooked very well, served with a tasty risotto. The garlic bread that came with my lasagne could have tasted a bit more of garlic and a little less like plain butter but other than that the food was to a very high standard.
Because we booked ahead for a Monday evening sitting (we'd driven a fair way so wanted to guarantee a meal!) we were treated to a complimentary bottle of wine 🍷. No complaints there either!
We will definitely revisit the Boathouse next time we're up by Redcastle.

We are staying in the Redcastle Hotel and got chatting to a woman who had eaten at The Boat House, well sure we decided we would chance it the following night, by goodness we are glad we did!! Fergal and his team are welcoming, friendly and good craic, though not in your face. The food, meal, dishes.......just fabulous, we were trying to remember a better meal that we had in Ireland and couldn't!! The monkfish starter and belly of pork starter set the scene, so fresh and flavours so good. Main courses of Hake with colcannon, and Beef cheek, just so good, I am not doing these meals justice with my description of them, but they are dishes that I will think upon in future saying rem. that beef cheek dish, yum yum. A relaxing beautiful restaurant right on the water, hidden behind Leisure land, Redcastle, I would travel the couple of hours from home just to eat here again!! Great Chef great food, reasonable price, attentive friendly staff, and Fergal your a star🤗

C.Just back from the boat house, been there a few times , always same ? , love my food but getting enough is a main thing, for example scamp ,3 pieces seemed a bit miserable and pesto , 2 thirds of plate def no good to me , even after a 3 course I'm still not satisfied (full) , staff are 100 pc , never seen better , prices grand to , as I'm well used to the scenery , live with it all year round, don't notice it as much , a little bit extra on course would be problem solved
