Lovely staff and location. Best vegan option (and coffee) I've had in ages. Had the loaded sweet potato fries. Will be back. Thanks!
S. L.
The food, the staff and the atmosphere here are special. We ordered the cauliflower curry and the beef quesadilla (the special) and they were so beautifully presented and incredibly tasty. The women who served us were delightful and so passionate about the food. A must visit when in Loughrea!

Stunning food. The chefs are amazingly talented. The ambiance is lovely. The front of house staff are friendly and polite and attentive. Angela steals the show. Great personality and makes the Hungry Bookworm unique
Read a book from the shelves whilst waiting for your food or afterwards to let it all go down.

Nice spot, went for lunch. Aswell as meat options they have 2 vegan options and a few veggie ones. Really nice food and friendly staff, good quality and good price. Lunch plus oat milk coffee for €15.

What a wonderful place! I come here to eat regularly from Galway City and I can say this is honestly the best food I’ve had since moving here from the US. I absolutely love the atmosphere here as well, such a hidden gem in Loughrea!
R. B.
This place. We stopped off to see some friends en route to Galway - had a late lunch sat outdoors under the lovely fluffy blankets. The food was absolutely great…and we had such a laugh with the staff!! Get them to explain what the story is behind the ‘prawn loaded chips’ (see photos). We stayed for a couple hours and had a lovely pot of tea to finish off. Honestly it made our visit…cannot wait to come back ♥️♥️♥️ Our waitress is in the photo with us (front left)…she was total gas. Didn’t get her name but loved her!

Absolutely delicious food, warm service. If you are in the Loughrea area you should definitely check this place out.

I was there for the first time yesterday and had a great time. Amazing, kind Staff, delicious food and lovely atmosphere. Would definitely go there again.
N. M.
Lovely friendly reception and interesting menu. The added element of a huge stock of books to browse or buy adds interest. Very well worth a visit, easy to find beside the cathedral and lots of nearby parking.
K. O.
Very welcoming restaurant/café. Absolutely amazing food. The Loaded Prawn Fries were amazing and I will definitely have it again. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Deirdre the proprietor has done so well to make the place an amazing establishment and I really hope it keeps thriving
S. H. V.
Oh my are you in for a treat. I think it their peanut butter brownie may be the best brownie I've ever tasted. Seriously. Words cannot describe. We also had their veggie curry and pakora which were beautiful. Lovely setting and friendly staff.
M. B.
This place was amazing. The most friendly lady served us , the place is quirky and interesting you just feel right at home. The fish and chips were second to none. I can't wait to be going back that way again. Really worth a trip. I'd love Ryan Tubberty had have gone in there on his travels, he'd love it with all the books and interesting paraphernalia. Also beef cheek burger was mouth watering 😋 😐 well done ladies. Deirdre especially was a beautiful human being. Thanks again.

Bernadette and I are so happy to have discovered this little gem in Loughrea. Deirdre and her staff did a simply wonderful job in welcoming us and satisfying our pallets. We would strongly recommend the wonderful vegetarian curry, or for meat lovers their wonderful burger... All served in what feels like your own home🍔.We will certainly be returning!!
S. L.
Fantastic cafe! I had the Alice's Super Good Salad. Its gluten free and vegetarian. This salad also be great for any vegans. The girls were great when I asked for goats cheese with it too. It's a rarity to get gluten free falafel and gluten free chips. The staff and manager were very kind and accommodating. I have IBS so helpful staff makes such a difference. Next time I will have to try their breakfast or maybe something sweet!

Had the most gorgeous fish and chips... very coeliac friendly menu.. fresh bright food.. a pleasure from start to finish. Fabulous staff. 👌

Fantastic food, great value for money and the best staff in East Galway! Thank you!
M. L.
Amazing food & always friendly staff. One of the best places to eat in Loughrea.
T. C.
This was my first visit and I loved it. It has a very chillaxed atmosphere as soon as you walk in. It has a covered seating area out the back where you can have a smoke if your into that sort of thing. We had a large party of 7 which they had no problem accommodating us.
The menu is simple and good value I had one of the dearest things on the menu and that was €12. Everyone is catered for here from kids, veggies to meat eaters and the quality is simply outstanding. I had the ultimate burger and it was gorgeous so gorgeous in fact I forgot to take a picture. The garlic sauce was as fresh and clearly home made. As the adults talked my daughter was able to pull a book down and have a read for a while.
This is a little gem of a place and just as lovely to have a coffee in and kill some time of your not having a meal. The only thing I would say is of you have young children be careful leaving the restaurant as you walk right out onto the road (no footpath the side of the restaurant). I will definitely be back to this place.
N. L.
Absolutely beautiful food and very friendly staff. You can pick a book and read while you wait for your food and finish the chapter while you drink your coffee. Highly recommend this place.
R. L.
Several excellent vegan dishes on the menu-throughly enjoyed our lunch and the staff were friendly and provided good service. Will definitely visit again!

S. Y. C.
Was pleasantly surprised by this delicious gem hidden down a quite side street in Loughrea. We were looking for something different to your typical pub grub and were certainly not disappointed here. A wonderfully quirky setting, super staff and a satiated apitite
T. R.
Visited today for the first time. Really busy spot and booking is recommended. Abaolutely delicious full irish breakfast, the girlfriend had fancy eggs on toast and they were just as good. Already can't wait to be back!
M. M.
A nice place to eat The staff are friendly. the food is good and the portions are good too.
D. C.
Great little cafe with really friendly staff. We complimented the cook on the unusual but lovely savoury scones and she presented us with a free sample when we were leaving. There's plenty of books to browse too so if you pop in for a coffee empty handed you're unlikely to leave that way. Fab little spot and we'll definitely be back.
P. K.
Brilliant family lunch. Excellent food and service!
A. G.
Always the most delicious and interesting food in town, and they couldn't be nicer. The outside dining was such a treat today, and the takeaway kept us going in lockdown.
A. m. T.
Very good food ..great value .. friendly attentive service.
Fantastic vegetarian options
C. L.
The food here is always top class. Even a basic soup is an absolute taste sensation.
F. B.
Amazing atmosphere, AMAZING food, amazing staff, what's not to love 😊
Food is consistently amazing and portions are so big and filling. Great vegetarian options and fab oat milk lattes.
Extra friendly service towards children with lots of books and toys for children to play with and keep them entertained.
Highly recommend visiting the Hungry Bookworm, I'm a huge fan!!
D. R.
High recommenend. Good food! We had falafel. And try the hot chocolate with marshmellow
T. O.
My first time ordering food yesterday, and couldn’t recommend them enough. Apart from the food be exceptionally tasteful and fresh (honestly no words to describe), owners extremely nice and helpful, can't wait to order again.👏👏
A. F.
Hidden Gem! Cosy, warm welcome and delicious contemporarty food that was not expected from a country cafe. We were very well looked after and will be back
B. R.
Great food, super friendly staff, kids thoroughly enjoyed it as did my wife and I. Fantastic book selection as well, will definitely be returning! Recommended!!
L. O. B.
Made an impromptu visit there yesterday with a friend who'd never been there before and we were both mightily impressed. We on arrival inquired of the three ladies near us what they were having as the presentation of their dushes caught our eye. My friend had the taco pockets with cod goijons, salad and condiments etc and I had fresh battered cod, chips and salad. We couldn't find fault with anything. Fish was beautifully fresh and cooked to golden perfection as were the chips, fluffy texture within and crisp and golden without. Presentation was a feast for the eyes. The salad was exceptional and I'm not generally a salad person but it was crisp and the dressing sublime. It was one of the nicest lunches I've ever had occasion to eat. My friend was from out of town and already planned a return visit with his wife and family. Atmosphere was relaxed and service was five star. And prices were very fair and reasonable.
a. H.

Finally got to go back after lockdown number 2 ended. Been looking forward to it and as always it was fantastic. Amazing melt in the mouth food. With something to suit everyone. Also what a friendly inviting atmosphere the staff give you.
C. N.
Great food. big portions. Reasonably priced. Lovely staff. Speedy service. Had ciabatta and chips and the best lemon drizzle cake I ever had. This place is well worth visiting. It's great to still be able to get service like this . Fair play to them. May they go from strength to strength.
G. K.
I visited this place with a few friends on an afternoon midweek. I liked the couch with cushions, oil table clothes and the layout of the table which were not too close together where next person can hear conversations. The food when served was delicious and reasonably priced.
However I noticed most people on site had their coats and jackets on throughout their meal and never removed them. I also kept my coat on because the place was freeeeeeeezing.... Note to managment- please keep heat in the place - people do notice.
M. T.
Have visited on normal cafe days and always love the warm welcome, delicious food and comfortable setting.
I also recently attended a launch party here. The tapas style food was absolutely fantastic. The lovely staff catered to adults and children and we felt very welcome.
J. P.
This is one of our favourite places to eat in Galway. Really friendly staff and fantastic food. It’s a great place for quiet chats and also to take the kids!
S.
Lovely little place. Very welcoming and have delicious food. They have great vegetarian options as well. As the name suggests, they have wall to wall bookshelves with a nice variety of second hand books for sale. Really enjoyed my visit and will definitely be returning.
R. H.
Beautiful food for all tastes, amazing chef (thank you for going beyond expectations, Angel) and lovely staff. Great spot for our toddler and plenty of distractions while you wait for some delicious food! So happy we came! I'll be back next time we're near Loughrea 😊
L. S.
Wonderful restaurant. Relaxed atmosphere. Books literally line the walls. Certainly worth looking up if you are in Loughrea and feeling hungry. The portions are generous, food filling and delicious.
I had the burger, perfectly done with beautiful bacon slices and melted cheese, chips and the freshest garlic sauce, salad on the side. The garlic sauce was a stunning accompaniment to the entire dish. Certainly will be back.
D. O. B.
Very tasty food, and great staff.

I could not recommend this place enough...the breakfast and service was amazing!! All the staff were so friendly....if travelling near lough rea for breakfast/lunch or dinner I would definitely suggest a visit. You will not be disappointed!
F. D.
Rally enjoyed it lovely food great service. ☕👏
L. C.
What a little gem. I had my first visit during the week and they catered well for 7 of us. The place is so cosy and even has a covered outdoor area. The food was amazing all quality ingredients and freshly made. My 5 year has been here before with family and I can see why she called it her favourite place, she wouldn't stop talking about it the whole way there. Is perfect to pop in relax with a coffee and loads of books to have a read and amazing for lunch. They have toys that children can play with if they are too young to read. I look forward to going back as the menu was so nice I can't wait to try more.
A. T.
What a great find! In loughrea for a couple of days. Had lunch and breakfast there. Ticks all the boxes. Amazing g food, adventurous, tasty ,good value , generous portions.
Friendly efficient staff, covid safety in place. What a treat!!
P.
It was Lovely! The iced coffee and cheesecake were really good!
J. B.
The food here would put you in good humour😊 we had The Greek Pitta and The Quesadilla and they were absolutely delicious. I would highly recommend, the food is visually attractive, gorgeous flavours, (you have to try the hummous) and the combination of tastes was fab. A must visit😊
F. M.
Unbelievably good food. Without a doubt the very best loughrea has to offer and would definitely give any other place a run for it's money. Very good portions at great prices. Quality gourmet menu. Your missing a trick if you pass by. Get in there! It's hard not to let a Sunday go by without a visit!!
H. S.
Always friendly, always good food and lovely coffees in a friendly atmosphere. And of course there's books - and toys for the little ones. Or favourite place to relax in Loughrea.
F. B.
The food cannot be faulted. The tartlets make me swoon. You could pick anything off the menu and you will love it. The beetroot tartlet... I can't compliment it enough! Lovely coffee, Barista style, which is rare in Loughrea!
The decor is a mix of a social library, and a cozy living come dining room. The wait staff are mostly very young, but very good, it's lovely to see young people get a chance to work in a busy restaurant! Very personable, as the owners and chef are often floating about to see if you are happy, and for a chat!
I'm not sure if this is the place for a quick lunch, because it's very hard to leave!
You can buy books too, I get distracted by the food and often forget that.
5 stars isn't enough!
R. M.
Delicious home-made food. Lovely ambiance. Angela and all the staff are very welcoming and provide top class service. Highly recommended!
K. P.
It's a cozy place in a quiet corner of this small town in Galway county. The atmosphere is relaxed with sofas and comfy chairs. The place has such a warm feel the moment you enter , the staff are super friendly and the food tastes fantastic. Strongly recommend the quesdiallas. They have a kids menu and desserts too. This appears to be a small family owned place and they customize food the way you want it. There are hundreds of books around to read while you wait for the food. Definitely visit if you are around.
G. L.
Visited this excellent cafe/restaurant today with my son. We were delighted with both the pleasant ambiance and the menu. There was an extensive vegetarian as well as vegan choice and the presentation was suberb. Would highly recommend this restaurant whle in Loughrea.
N. S.
Nicest lunch I had in a long time. Lovely restaurant. Staff is ever so friendly and helpful.
p. f.
wonderful place, great food and service, and their not paying me to say this. You can pick up some gems of books at a very reasonable price.
But the ladies that own and run the place are irreplaceable if I could I would marry the two of them. Long may ye continue to provide excellent cuisine and friendly and welcoming behavior. Best wishes Pat Flynn.
E. O. D.
Lovely relaxed atmosphere and the food is lovely. Very welcoming to families with young children. Nice variety menu for small children and plenty of books to entertain while waiting on food. A little gem of a restaurant with unique decor and lovely staff.
S. M.
Food, staff, space all fantastic. 10mins off the M6 - worth the trip & then some. Chef came out for a chat and gave mini-me an ice-pop , staycations for the win 😃

One of Loughrea hidden gems when it comes to good food that is well priced, served by friendly and warm people. Feels like home away from home. Highly recommend a stop by even just for some coffee

All homemade, all delish. Creamy cauliflower soup with a hint of garlic, juicy beef burger and gorgeous goujons all served with fabulously crunchy twice cooked fries. Left stuffed and happy. Couldn't have asked for more on this cold day

A must stop when in Loughrea. Food is gorgeous but the atmosphere is really where it is at - these are hardworking and real people making and serving you food they themselves take pride in. Such a cozy friendly atmosphere for families and friends. Can't be in Loughrea and not stop. The heart in the place is unmatched.

B. W.
I am from Ballinasloe and I sometimes pass through Loughrea and if i get a chance I call into "the hungry Bookworm", and would recommend anyone who is visiting or passing through to call in. If you have any taste in nice resturents you have to see this place. Once there you will want to come back, if you dont want to come back you obviously don't have taste in restaurants. The staff are very vary friendly, and not fake friendly, it is a very calm atmosphere about the place. This is my experance there, it is up to you to you to have yours. Have a good day to ever is reading this.
