First time in a Sushi Restaurant, lovely food, great Sushi and beef and chicken curries, so much choice there is something for everyone. Even our grandson had a lovely kids size chicken and noodle dish. Highly recommended. Very friendly staff and reasonable prices.

Love it here, 5 stars all around. Warm friendly service, staff always helpful and welcoming. Food is always prompt, fresh, delicious and beautifully served. Highly recommend, I did not think I would like sushi because I thought it was all fish but there are sushi options without fish too, theres other items on the menu as well like ramen, rice dishes and loads more! It is good value for money the portions are very generous in house or for takeaway. Atmosphere is excellent also, beautifully decorated with nice lighting and comfortable seating. One of our favorites in Portlaoise! :)

I honestly didn't expect a Sushi bar in Laois. It's on the main street and is quite small. It's décor is minimalist (not over the top faux 'Japanese'). The chicken katsu curry was superb, my wife had Sushi and Nigiri and loved it. Gyozas and seaweed salad were also great. An unexpected little gem!

We had takeaway there at least once a week. Love the Akayu Ramen, tempura starters, noodle and rice dishes. Vegetarian options are no problem. My son, when living with us during Covid, had lots of sushi and couldn't get enough. The food is fresh, delicious and very beautiful to the eye. Tastes great! Can't wait to be able to sit inside and enjoy the service and staff who are lovely.

Where should I even start? The restaurant is tiny but beautifully decorated, feels exactly the way you expect sushi place to be. The food is unbelievable! I’ve being to many, many sushi places - Dublin, London, Singapore, Warsaw, Melbourne, Geelong, Sydney. And probably few more. There were good ones, there were bad ones, but only three or four were as good as this one is. Very nicely served, quite big portions for the price. But what made this visit special was the crew. I wish I asked the Chinese girl’s name, as she was simply perfect. Incredibly nice and respectful, quite chatty too. She made sure we are happy good few times, always with a smile (yes, you can see smiles under the face mask!!). I couldn’t be happier. Thank you! TL;DR: AWESOME place, very good value, beautiful crew

Was there with a young person I work with. This particular young man is quite choosy about his food but loves his Japanese food particularly sushi. To say it was delicious was an understatement. It was beautiful. Real, tasty unbelievable food. The staff where so warm and friendly too. I cant wait to get back

Lovely food! Would definitely recommend on every occasion but the custom service today at around 3 was terrible.. the woman taking orders mixed up what we wanted and when we brought it back in after checking it she basically told us we were wrong that we put in the wrong order when it was simply just a communication error she argued with us before giving us the correct order. Very rude. Not one bit impressed.

I can say nothing but good things about Akayu. Myself and my partner have eaten here 3-4 times already, and will eat here many more in the future. The sushi tasted fresh and delicious with a nice variety of options. Then main meals, I have gotten a different one each time, and I can guarantee that no matter what you choose you're going to love it. Pair that will a very friendly and personable staff and you've got yourself a 5 star restaurant. The prices for starters, mains, and drinks can be approx €35+, which might be expensive for some, but as a treat I would highly recommend it.
