I was only there for food. Lovely ambiance and tastefully decorated. Slight old world charm but very clean. Staff.lovely and food was good. Hopefully it will do well. Right beside the discovery park so it makes for a lovely family day out/Sunday walk.

We, my husband and I and another couple chanced going to the Avalon without booking on a Sunday, even though there was a private function in the bar and the restaurant was busy we were accommodated upstairs in Lil's restaurant. Our covid certs and ID were checked and the dining tables were well spaced out. I also noticed that several windows were open, so we felt very relaxed and comfortable in the restaurant. The food was beautifully presented and delicious, the roast beef was particularly good, tender and succulent. The staff are friendly and efficient. All and all a very enjoyable way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

Very good hotel. They have recently renovated the rooms because everything looked very new. My friends rooms were bigger an nicer than mine. They put me in room 217 and it was smaller, colder and no as nice as my friends' rooms. Dinner food was really nice so it was breakfast. Staff was very nice. Definitely a great place to go

Food was of an excellent standard and portion sizes were very generous. Overall a lovely dining experienc. Old style settings with modern touches around. Staff were very willing to help and more than happy with special requests (celiac at our table).
Will definitely be back.

this hotel is a beautiful gem in the heart of the historic, scenic castlecomer town. The rooms here are very spacious and luxurious. Due to the quality of the beds, the blackout curtains and quiet idyllic surroundings I challenge anyone not to get an awesome sleep here. Based in Castlecomer there is plenty to see and do beautiful walls stepped in history. The hotel itself dates back to the 17th century and the owners have done a beautiful job of keeping the character. Food here is great, they have a small food menu which is always a good sign of a great chef that knows their food and menu inside out, we were not let down we ordered 2 steaks both to be cooked differently, this was executed perfectly, I take my steak close to rare and the chef got this just right with the steak perfectly pink, braised to perfection on the outside and to my surprise the fats were rendered well, go you, hats off to that chef. The staff here are super friendly, easy going and a real credit to the hotel, keep up the good work. The hotel I feel is adequately priced, certainly you may find cheaper but it wouldn't be as good and when dining I found the prices fairly inexpensive. this hotel must be visited and appreciated it is a real gem

The staff made it for me although the room, hotel and outdoor area are beautiful. It's a quiet hotel near the discovery park. The food was excellent and the staff went above and beyond to help me when my partner was delayed in getting to the hotel due to work, even packaging up a dinner for him to eat on his arrival late that night. We really appreciated how hard they are working and having gone the extra mile. Special shout out to Ellie on reception and Eva in the restaurant.

Oh wow! This hotel is amazing the food is beautiful, the rooms are clean, spacious and comfy, the staff are friendly and go out of their way to help any way they can, its central to the village and right beside Castlecomer Discovery Centre, everything is in walking distance, or 30 minutes driving distance if you want to go into Kilkenny town. We will definitely recommend to anyone and we will definately be back.

Really nice hotel, decor is amazing, staff are so friendly and get to know you after a couple of stays, food is very good and I always have a great sleep. Theres a lovely outdoor area to sit outside, parking is hidden away at the back of the hotel. Overall a little gem of a place. Kilkenny town is only 20 minutes away and the discovery park is closeby.

Slowest service effa...I've seen bogs form quicker. Last drinks call at 22:30. Under-whelmed.

Started out that I reckoned we should try here for a change. Did not think it would be so good. The restaurant is beautiful and the decor amazing...would not like to be the one who has to wash all the plates on the wall😂🤔. The food was presented so well and the staff are very professional. Fine dining without the exorbitant price tag.

I attended an engagement here and the venue was beautiful, we had an amazing time here for sure. The staff were extremely friendly and helped you with any enquiry you had. They have a pub also which was fabulous, they have live music on Friday which was really fun we had a good time for sure. I recommend visiting this hotel even if it's for a quick drink or lunch.

Absolutely lovely stay. This hotel is a gem. Beautiful refurbishment. Room was extremely comfortable. Bar was cosy, drinks excellent and reasonably priced and the barman (Dan) was absolutely excellent..... friendly and professional. We will definitely stay again and recommend this hotel to others.

The hotel has noticibly been refurbished recently with wsome works still going on. The décor was really nice and airy and the rooms were very dainty. A major negative regarging the room was the really annoying and loud extractor fan outside the bedroom window. We went for dinner in the restaurant/bar/ballroom (very odd experience with the current social distancing guidelines). It was understaffed with both the barman and waiter rushed off there feet however, both lads were very nice and doing the best they could. This hotel is probably ideal if you are attending a wedding reception. If we were to visit Kilkenny again we would probably stay closer to the city. Other then the activity centre close to the hotel there really isn't anything else in Castlecomer. One night was more then enough.

Came to the Avalon for the New Year's day celebrations. The venue itself is very beautiful and spacious.
It's only let down was the bar staff as I felt they were a little overwhelmed at times. It took on average of about 25mins to be served in either the bar or the function room.
The band Blessed was class. Highlight of my day

Gorgeous sunday lunch and such good value. Meal was for a large group and the staff were so polite and helpful. We had plenty of time for everyone to get through each course. Will definitely be back

Loved this understated hotel! It is tastefully decorated. Has a lovely bar and fine dining choice. The bar men Jordan and Charlie are exceptional! The chef is incredibly talented and creative--especially guiness and beef casserole!! the breakfast is also outstanding for choice. Every window has a lovely view!--So conveniently close to Discovery Park, The Mining Museum, chip truck, Kilkenny, etc!!!
