Reviews of Avoca Monkstown Food Market

Pretty much a regular customer here. A compact market with variety of food choices. The staffs have always been very helpful. In-house products are good and worth a try. Price range may differ slightly from regular supermarkets however the quality seems to make up for it. Content with the shopping experience thus far.

I popped in to get some take away salmon with salad just after 4pm on a weekday. The choice from this counter is good and the food tasted fine, typical Avoca fare. However, I was bemused and left aghast by the fact that they would not serve me a coffee to go! Closed, finished serving coffee I was informed (although there is more than one counter in Salt that do coffee!) Seems very odd to still be serving hot food too go and no coffee...
I was also told they had no sachets of pepper! 😳
What a disappointing visit!

Best fine groceries I've ever met. There's also superb frozen food, with healthy options and some food brands you won't find anywhere else.
M. B.
This is one of our favourite spots every time we walk to Monkstown. At the entrance you will find a nice shop with fresh vegetables and cooked meals and cakes. On the right you will find the cafe/restaurant, offering a breakfast or brunch menu. Some dishes are very honestly priced (I would not classify it with 3 €€€ as reported by Google Maps) well prepared and using fresh ingredients. The service is kind, despite they are very busy due to a high amount of customers throughout the day. Recommended
D. S.
Had a delicious lunch with. my 3 sisters to celebrate my august birthday....somewhat delayed but we'll worth waiting for! Service was excellent and looking forward to a return visit soon.....many thanks, Mary
T. R.
Fantastic food! Excellent service to boot. Always quite chuffed with whatever I pick up - usually meat products, or incredible cheeses. Amazing Orange Juice machine that squeezes oranges as you watch. Sure look, its expensive, but it is damn good. Thank you Team Avoca!
c. w.
Had a lovely meal here. Walked in and got a table. Food is very good and service also good. Staff are friendly. Prices might not suit every pocket but you won't be disappointed. Recommended.
P. T.
Good but expensive. You can find the same food in other cafés around Dublin for half the price.
Now the staff was absolutely lovely, although the crowd wasn't very friendly. It feels like one of those restaurants where people want to be seen on the weekend for brunch... Definitely go there if you like good breakfasts, especially the pancakes, but if you can't deal with a "up the nose crowd", don't waist your time.
K. v.
Fantastic food and excellent service! Worth paying the higher prices for the extra quality
S.
Amazing shop, love the variety of food, bakery, butcher, cheese, beechlawn organic food not to mention the staff & the coffee! A loyalty card would be great! Thanks & well done!
F. T. L.
My husband and I had breakfast for the first time in Avoca and we loved.
Our breakfast was delicious and fresh and our coffee was spectacular 👏.
We’ll be back for sure.
J. R.
Bit disappointing the last time I went there. Salads more bland and not as fresh as they used be and and in short supply at 2pm on a Sunday
M. O.
Overpriced in general and staff were slow to serve at the deli counter, despite being out of the rush hour time. However, great selection of yummy things and always enjoyable to snoop around!
M. B.
Excellent selection of ready to cook meals of up market quality and variety. Good value and courteous staff always willing to help.
R. K. W.
great shop. the staff are very helpful and the the cook book selection is pretty decent. thanks
D. C.
Didn't actually use this woody cafe. When I arrived, my pals were already installed in the Avoca next door. But this new Diarmuid Gavin venture looks well worth a visit.
S. O.
The people of monkstown should be proud of there village, we are losing our village to fast. I have not been here for a long time, and the joy fill me with little shop like Avoca quality food and a great heart to it and the rest of the village, A hat of to you people of monkstown.
A. T.
It's a great place to get high quality produce. The fresh fruit and vegetables are wonderful! I think the ready-made meals are a little pricey. The butchers in the back has mouthwatering cuts at reasonable prices. It's often quite busy on weekends but the staff are friendly nevertheless. It's a nice place to pick up quality food for special occasions.
M.
A small cafe with all the goodness of avoca products.
Breakfast was slightly disappointing though. My friends went for the big breakfast and were very satisfied. I decided to try the porridge and a scone. Porridge was overpowered with cinnamon and overall very watery. Scone unfortunately too sweet but this could be just personal perception.
Staff very very friendly!
n. m.
Limited menu under the cercumstances understandable, very covid aware, a lovely cafe style restaurant to grab a bite
J. M.
Amazing service, they even made a special vegan meal for me!
A. d. C.
Great brunch, quick service and cool atmosphere with on one side fresh and good products (vegetables, meat, cheese room,...) and on the other the restaurant. Half chicken from the rotisserie is a must.
N. E.
A small food market hides a cozy restaurant-like cafe. Great place for breakfast! Rather expensive
T. N. d. C.
Very good place to buy bread and meat.
I have tasted their lamb burgers and they are wonderful. There isn't a big variety of bread, but they are great.
There is a small selection of wines so you can harmonize.
The only downside is that it is very small.
K. S.
Avoca in Monkstown does yummy food. Sometimes a tad on the pricey side for what you get, but mostly very good all the same. Avoca lovers take note: this is a sit down eatery with à la carte menu, not like your usual self service offerings at Avoca. The dishes change regularly but I recommend the eastern plate of haloumi fritters with dips right now.
D. O. H.
A regular customer in this particular store. Staff are always so helpful.
e. v.
High quality service, food, restaurant + artisan goodies - overall awesome! 👌👌👌
S. M. Z.
Lovely shop and nice place for a nice cappu and some sweet to eat and spoil yourself
C. C.
Best bread and vegetable. Sandwiches very expensive for what I got €9 for a ham&coleslaw sandwich on 2 slices of bread
P. R.
One of the best stores in the area.
Really great selection and produce.
Staff are can-do people - really helpful. Lovely store.
Go buy there rather than online. Keep jobs here.
Thanks to all in Avoca in Monkstown. Great spot.
E. T.
Excellent avoca. Staff are mostly friendly and has fresh fruit and veg, cheesmonger, butcher and all the best avoca desserts and snacks.
P. N.
always high standard. dependable food, good quick service. parking can be troublesome
L. F.
Excellent produce Could spend ages looking at lovely delicatessen and perfect lemons Just like my family home outside Sorrento Worth visiting
G. W.
Always impressed by how professional the service here is. Well done and keep up the good work. Highly recommend the pancakes!
e. r.
Lovely food and fantastic atmosphere- slightly pricy but worth it as it is a lovely occasion
E. S.
This gets my vote for delicious home cooked foods generous portions. Wide range of deli type foods to buy
A. M.
Great selection of good tasty produce. Popped in for Chocolate Brownies!!!
S. T.
Had a really lovely turkey sandwich from there, and look forward to trying more of their selection in the future. The staff were lovely and the shop front kept clean and inviting.
L. D. N.
Nice spot for lunch. Great food. Also food shop and market. You pay for what you get.
S. S.
Super coffee
Great service
Cakes fantastic
S. K.
This is a lovely small food market with an incredible range of fruits and vegetables, also groceries from around the world.
A big plus is the sandwich bar and 'poulet bonne femme' with their exceptional rotisserie.
Prices are slightly on the high end but worth it for the quality of the products they offer.
Covid measures (social distancing, hand sanitizers at the door, limited number of people at once in the stoor) are properly implemented and followed.
C. S.
A bit expensive but really good quality. One of our favourite local shops. They do really good home made scones for takeaway.
N.
What a find! We took a train ride on a whim and stumbled in on this beauty! If your in Dublin ride on over and check out the views and when you're hungry you have to stop in
J. J. Y.
This village is a must see in your lifetime. You would never think you were in a city. It is very quaint, shop fronts are stunning. Very close to the sea. The 2 churches in the middle of the village are a sight to behold. The architecture of the protestant Church is like something from the programme grand design, but from another era. The coffee from avoca was a treasure, served with a friendly smile. The seating on the footpath outside is something different from the norm, as it is laid out in the shrubbery across the footpath from the shops.
A. M.
Staff are really nice, despite us only staying for coffee and pastries. The matcha I had was so nice!!! Price for a large coffee is high enough. The scones we had were delicious!
K. R.
Fancy food market and a nice cafe for breakfast
P. M.
Beautiful selection of scrummy food. Love their cool room of cheeses. Fresh stock of gorgeous cheese and chutney again... 🧀😍
k. G. D. D. D.
Great food fab grocery section
P. C.
Had lunch here for the first time in July 2019. Truly amazing. Food was a sensory delight and absolutely delicious. Excellent value given the quality. Service was attentive, professional and friendly. Can't wait to return. Fully recommended.
S. M.
Staff great - really helpful on menu questions.
Food presented excellent and tasted great. Didn’t shop there but some great shopping and the hot chickens rotisserie smelt great - will be back to try.
M. W.
Gorgeous cafe and cafe next door. Outdoor seating area too. Excellent brunch options and the goats cheese fritters are a winner for lunch or dinner. Excellent quality meat dishes, esp the rotisserie chicken. Sourdough bread is a dream!
B. E.
We are new in town since we just moved to Ireland. Avoca looks amazing with every attention to detail and great service. You will love the butcher part!
J. L.
Very special dishes in the restaurant. Everything is always super fresh! A big selection of tropical fruits and deluxe products. The deserts are so delicious specially their bailey's cheesecake
K. M.
Like all the Avoca premises, it's really lovely
L. D.
Clean ,good food and good service
A. F.
We had a gorgeous brunch recently in Salt. I had made a booking online for the wrong day at the manager did everything to facilitate us. We were a big group so his efforts were greatly appreciated. The staff couldn't have done more for us and the food and service was top notch. Will definitely be back.
D. S.
We had fantastic food which was just a little different. The room is lively. The staff were friendly and efficient. We had a lovely leisurely late lunch. Will definitely be going back 😀
T. J.
Excellent store and restaurant. Amazing service and delicious food. Store is very small and narrow, but it has very good vegetables that you can't get anywhere else (although they are quite pricey). There is also tiny cheese room with large variety of high quality cheeses and olives.
J. M.
Very good adherence to lockdown policy, provide hand sanitizer and gloves upon entry. Selection remains pretty good. Priced at a premium rate for most items, however quality of groceries is always very good.
A. T.
Nice staff, good hot coffee and a few treats on offer, can't go wrong.
n. e.
Great food...service could be quicker, but still great!!
R. ..
Place is super cute, food is delicious. I have always liked anything that I have eaten here. While you are here, you can also do grocery shopping. Overall a great experience. Must visit!
C. L.
Absolutely delicious food, wonderful ambience and first rate , attentive service - a mixed clientele - all ages and heavenly calm, well-behaved children being parented. A thoroughly civilised experience . Fantastic shop with an abundance of quality foodstuffs - came away with some lovely cheeses and some Portuguese custard tarts. Worth flying to Dublin for - can we have one of these in Dorset please?
M. C.
I had brunch at the restaurant and it was good. Our eggs were a bit undercooked, but the atmosphere was nice. I am a fan of Avoca scones, particularly the pear one, so it was nice to grab some from the market to bring home!
N. M.
Incredibly tasty dishes served by polite staff! My selection? "beef bourguignon"!!!
O. V.
Love Avoca and food quality. Staff is very nice and very helpful. Food quality always on top. Very much recommended. In Monkstown there are butcher, cheesemonger, pastries and restaurant/cafe. Love the area too. Located opposite Monkstown church.
C. L.
Great food and service ☺️
R.
Great quality local food.
It is bit on a pricey side but you pay for friendly people and amazing food.
The butcher there is absolutely top level :)
O. P.
In comparison with what Avoca used to be, it's only an ok place to eat. Menu doesn't describe the food well, it just seems to list ingredients. The food itself, apart from the (salted?) salad with the burger and the pieces of docket paper with my medium to medium rare fish (described as rare by the waiter), seems fairly average. The atmosphere is lethargic. And the service is confused.
L. F.
Lovely restaurant usually illuminated by lots of natural light at the front if you like that and a darker area at the back. Menu offers great breakfasts lunches brunches and dinners following classic Avoca fare.
The shop has a take away salad bar featuring Avoca salads and also a huge range of fresh deli and dessert treats. Also available are fresh meats vegetables Italian fare and a wide range of chocolate!
S. M.
I dropped in here today looking for a very specific item (special sausages) from their butchers that my brother had recommended. The very helpful female butcher advised us that they didn't have the item in stock because they ordered it specifically for my brother but give them a call with a couple of days notice and they could arrnage to get it for us no problem. Great service. Also worth a mention are their range of cakes and 'sweet things' a little expensive but all home made and absolutely delicious
T. C.
My opinion of this place is improving the service this time was much better than previous times. The food was very nice too. I do find the breakfast menu always has something missing.
A. F.
Amazing lunch treat today with my amazing friend ..... And then I bought tomoros dinner - amazing Free Range roast chicken and home roasted ham and. Organic Greens - all cooked.and ready to warm up. Yum yum.....
Heathy nutritious and as organic as we can get .... Yum.
D. O.
Please display the multiseed with fruit in separate basket to white soda bread with fruit.. customers have to open the bags to see what is in them and leaving them open. Same issue in kilmacanogue.
A. X.
Great... Huge selection and very prompt service
J. C. (.
A nice place to visit located on Monkstown Crescent
T. g. K.
The best pancakes and coffee great too
A. H.
Definitely tasty food, classy 'and' friendly staff. Taste their bakery and food. Homemade lemonade was nice too. Also although i haven't tasted they have a good selection of wines.
y. k.
This place is a favourite for the family.
Staff fantastic fabulous friendly and professional.
Food love love love the food.
Burgers yummy and deserts best in town.
a. p.
This is one of my favourite spots for breakfast or brunch. Food is of really good standards and staff are really nice. Strongly recommended for dinner too.
S. O.
A regular customer of here and always buy my bread and treats there, nothing beats it!
N. A.
The market is a little overpriced (I know, I know, but I come from Italy..) but the fruit quality is definitely the highest I've found. There's seating for brunch / lunch / cake and tea, with a nice selection and a high quality.
A. S.
Food was lovely very reasonable menu, staff very friendly and lovely manners. Decor in restaurant is lovely. Great experience and will definitely return again
M. D.
Food top notch. Service excellent. Staff very welcoming and friendly. First visit for me but certainly not the last. :)
S. R.
Everything was prepared with delicate specialness (even the deconstructed hazelnut cheesecake with a daring shape was delicious, despite the shape). If you enjoy food you'll enjoy this place.
M. C.
Standards of excellence in everything. WOW! What a store! Only the very best stocked here. Lovely Restaurant here too. If royals lived in Ireland this is where they'd shop.
S. S.
Great quality food and produce. Wonderfully helpful and friendly staff. Lovely restaurant. Highly recommend.
B. L.
Excellent little place! Great menu, great scallops, superb salad, great desserts. Friendly atmosphere. Clean restrooms. Thumbs up!
J. S. C.
Waiting staff seemed disinterested and my visitor was not also not impressed that her "Macadamia nut and Blueberry pancakes" had only three tiny bits of Macadamia and very few blueberries in the pancakes. My fruity porridge was as described and delicious. Unlucky..?
B. B.
Wonderful is all I can say simply wonderful. Staff friendly and attentive. Excellent Menu and delicious food.
D. Z.
I'm not the "foodie" type but I absolutely love Avoca. I've been to the Salt restaurant only once and that was really nice, but I can absolutely recommend the little sandwich booth. They only have crispy chicken and pork sandwiches, but they are my favourite sandwiches in Dublin. Also, the supermarket is fantastic, the produce just looks so fresh and delicious that I always end up buying far too much! Also, everyone is just so nice and friendly!
I usually buy a sandwich, coffee, and cake and go down to the Monkstown DART station. If you cross it there's a nice little park with benches with a great view of Dublin bay.
C. Ó. C.
Lovely scones and pesto but expensive. Difficult to get parking
A. A.
Wide range of fresh products, a decent butcher and good cheese selection. They always have fresh herbs which always a hit and miss on other stores.
K. M.
Only 2 tables occupied and they still got the order rong... and by the way €15 for an avoca breakfast consisting of 2 poached eggs 2 small dried up links 1 piece of hard bacon a handful of greens a piece of sourdough and lastly the smallest piece of black pudding you wouldn't ever have the cheek to give to anybody is really only seen in Venice where blatant robery is considered part of the experience 😡
J. Q.
Lovely location. Your favourite Avoca food in big servings. Service can be a bit slow but overall a great place.
b. d.
Amazing coffee and very friendly people serving them.
R. W.
Lovely place for weekend brunch or lunch, with kids Manu. Fantastic variety of top notch food ingredients, meat, cheese, vegetables and fruits. Must try the Sprout & Co. juices, probably best cold pressed juices.
J. O.
Great cafe. Really good spot for a coffee and a scone. Food menu is excellent and as an added bonus the butcher and delicatessan is also awesome.
s. f.
Food delicious and didn't have to wait long for a table. A bit noisy but staff very helpful and coffee good.
P. P.
Would like to score higher as we love coming here, especially the courtyard, but the service is ridiculously slow! Also the allowance to smoke in this area totally detracts from the experience.
E. M.
The food market has lots to chose from; there's a butchers, fresh fruit & veg section, takeaway salad options and also a chicken rotisserie. Their take away chicken sandwiches are a mouthwatering treat and the coffee is good. There's also a restaurant called Salt onsite too.
E. B.
Nice atmosphere. Lovely food.
A. P.
Staff are helpful and friendly. ..small menu but very good food. .. last out of restaurant and we were offered free bread 🙂
J. R.
Great local food. Great staff. Bit on the pricy side but your paying for quality. The butcher is amazing
N. M.
Very expensive but they have a good selection of products. I love their scones and prepared meals (when 50% off same day expiry)
V. H.
Avoca is never anything short of delicious. While it may hurt the purse strings the service is always good and the food outstanding. Try the falafel with a Sprout juice for a healthy and hearty lunch.
Tips
Avoca is on the more expensive side so keep this one for a payday treat :)
K. d. G.
Great food and very good service. The only reason it's not five stars is that it's a bit small and there's often a long wait for a table at the weekend.
D. W.
Nice decor, brilliant food and very cheerful, friendly staff. Salt is great and the shop has tons of unusual things to try.
F. M.
Tasty and well prepared breakfast and lunch place with a fancy deli and food shop attached.. well worth a visit if in Monkstown. Reserve a table in advance to avoid queues at the weekend.
J. P.
Nice craft shot and café restaurant.
Not pricey as you would think.
Perfect for Sunday brunch
R. A.
Nice deli. Not cheap but good quality
R. G.
Nice place to pick up something a little bit fancy, if you don't mind paying a premium . Butcher's inside is very good, the pre prepared meals are great.
R. B.
