Our driver, Michael, was personable, prepared and informed. He discovered early into our three days of our particular interest in 20th century Irish history, and customized our experience to make the time very special indeed. Michael's familiarity with the region allowed him to offered suggestions for evening activities where we'd see and hear authentic culture and music.
I would strongly encourage any visitors to engage Butler Tours to make their visit to Ireland fulfilling and stress-free. Simply the best!
S. H.The absolutely best part of the bus tour for us was our fantastic driver, John O'Donovan. He was incredibly knowledgeable about Irish history and kept everyone on the coach entertained with stories about the areas we visited and with his beautiful singing voice as he sang Irish ballads. He has a great sense of humor and a delightful laugh and really made the tour a lot of fun. The pride and love he has for his home town of Cobh came through as he prepared us for our visit. C. R.We were a group of 8 that consisted of three families and our ages ranged from 10 to 75. We spent 14 days in Ireland and 12 of those were with Butler’s Tours (2 days in Dublin on our own). We can’t believe how much we crammed into 14 days as we visited multiple locations in both the Republic and in Northern Ireland.
We started with a list of key places we wanted to visit and then worked with Paul from Butler’s Tours to develop a complete itinerary that included lodging recommendations and points of interest to visit. Paul was very helpful and accommodating.
We arrived in Ireland with high expectations as good friends had recommended Butler’s Tours and spoke very highly of them. We are pleased to report that our expectations were exceeded and we had an absolutely wonderful experience. Our transfers to and from the airport were seamless and we started with an enjoyable couple of days exploring Dublin.
The next morning our driver, John Stapleton, picked us up at the hotel right on time and with a smile on his face. The vehicle, a Mercedes van, was comfortable, clean and in great condition.
We started our 12 day adventure with John with a quick tour around Dublin before heading South. It was immediately evident that we were in for a fun and informative 12 days. Words can’t express how much we enjoyed and appreciated having John guide us throughout the trip. John was professional and drove with skill and a focus on safety. He had taken us to places we would have not gone if we drive ourselves, it was amazing. However, his humor, friendliness and immense knowledge was what really made the trip a success. John was much more than just a driver or guide as he became the 9th member of our family for 12 days and it was with a heavy heart that we said goodbye at the end of our journey. That said, we have a new friend and look forward to having him visit us for Irish Fest in Milwaukee, WI.
If anyone is planning a trip to Ireland we highly recommend Butler’s Tours and John Stapleton as your driver. In our opinion it is the only way to visit the country and we have already recommended Butler’s Tours and John to numerous friends and family.

After 7 days of travelling with Rom we had to say goodbye, and felt like we were saying goodbye to a friend. The last few days of our holiday involved 3 different drivers in 3 days. They were all very nice and polite, but because the driver changed every day, we did not have the rapport with them that we had with Rom. I would recommend Butler tours to Ireland travelers.

I gave Paul a list of must see places and he filled in the rest. We saw all we wanted to see and more and never did we fell rushed. All of the hotels we stayed at were great. We had two drivers, James and Liam, and we will be hard pressed who to request on our next trip because they were both fantastic. October update:
I will put it simply: with every Butlers tour I think it can't go any better (I certainly thought so after our May wanders with Liam Ryan). Anyway, Mr. John Stapleton changed this and I can't really say which one was better. Anyway, he provided us with absolutely passionate guiding, love for his country, humour, and so much background that even myslef after so many tours in Ireland was constantly learning new stuff, and last but not least, safe and easy driving and any help we needed on the way.

R. T.The greatest trip of my life, made possible by Butler Buses. My family and I went on a family trip to Ireland last year. My family was treated like part of the Butler family. We were on a clean and comfortable bus, driven by a super polite, knowledgeable bus driver that eliminated the need to pay for a tour guy.
Our trip took us around the entire island over 13 days, including Northern Ireland and at no point did we have an issue with the driver or the bus. The driver was informative and helped us plan the days activities and destinations. He offered us advice when possible, which was essential in getting in as many of the sites as possible. It's tough for a traveler to understand what tourist destinations are realistically close to each other and the driver helped us map it all out.
Butler Buses enhanced our trip, saving us the stress of having to drive around the countryside ourselves and most likely getting lost or driving on the wrong side of the road.

He picked us up at the port on time (Cork/Cobh). We went to Blarney Castle and Gardens (and the Blarney Woolen Mill Shop), Kinsale, and the Cobh Cathedral, as well as made stops throughout the day. The coach was clean and in good condition, and Paddy was very accommodating with our requests and questions. Butlers is definitely the way to go when in Cork/Cobh, and request Paddy if he is available !

P.We are a family group of 8 (including 3 kids age 10-12) and did a 6-day tour of Ireland. The itinerary that Butlers recommended was pretty much spot on perfect for us, all but one of us being first-timers to Ireland. We covered Galway, Killarney, Ring of Kerry, Dingle, Fort James, Kinsale and Cork. Also very pleasantly surprised by the high quality of the hotels - they were are all true four-star hotels and I'd wager that the one we stayed at in Cork was a luxury 5-star. For various reasons we ended up booking our own hotel in Dublin, and if I were going to do it again, I'd have Butlers do everything -- their network is clearly superior.
At the last minute we had an issue which meant that half our group wouldn't be arriving from the US until the second day of the original itinerary -- this was all smoothed over by Butlers arranging a private car to catch up the forward party. Seamless and completely resolved the problem for us in a single phone call with no fuss.
Our driver Dawn was fantastic. She was of course a safe and steady driver, but also had good patter throughout the 6 days, very knowledgeable and seemed able to parry the most random questions. It's hard to over-state how much time she saved us each day by showing us exactly where to go to enter the attraction or even taking us right through the ticket queue (which is allowed for tour guides), or by dropping us off at the entrance while she secured parking which was sometimes a mile away. Once, we had just 10 minutes to get through a certain turnstile at Bunratty Castle before they strictly shut the gates, and she literally sprinted us up the path and through the first level of the castle entry to make sure we made it! What a legend. We quickly established ourselves as a group of late risers, so aside from one day we decided to shift our start time to 10 am. Dawn was totally fine with this and flexed the schedule easily.
Quote from 10-year-old: "I really like how you could ask any question and Dawn would actually listen to you and then be able to answer it with a good explanation. She explained about the Ice Age stones in a way that everybody could understand."
The tour bus itself was lovely and very comfortable, with huge windows so it felt like you were on a train. Naturally amongst ourselves we wanted the A/C temperature adjusted every 10 minutes or so, but Dawn never seemed to mind. It was great to be able to recline and catnap during the drives, because some of us were jetlagged from the time zone shifts.
We congratulated ourselves many times throughout the trip for having the genius to book Butlers Tours and take our holiday from good to OUTSTANDING. It was so easy and relaxing not having to worry about the itinerary, directions, bookings, parking, where to use the loo etc etc. Everything was in hand. I highly recommend Butlers and Dawn the driver!

I have been planning trips for friends and family over the last 9 years and found that when I started working with Ian Butler, the travel planning was much easier. He is extremely knowledgable about the routes, the time to get from one place to another, and suggests times to allot for each stop. It takes the guesswork out of the planning. He works very closely with you in planning the trip and has wonderful suggestions of things to see along the way. The bus drivers they provide are personable, on time, professional and always sporting that famous Irish wit. Some of them even sing for you! The buses are new, modern and always sparkling clean and well kept. We'll be using them again for our 2015 trip. We couldn't ask for more, and we highly recommend them!

We made a decision one morning to forego a section of our tour because of bad fog and rain; so we moved on. John kept it all going and we felt we had a better time because of the little surprises. Places like the 911 Garden, Kennedy Compound and New Ross migrant boat were unexpected.
The purpose of these reviews to help assist others in their choices when you have come across reputable vendors, hotels, restaurants, etc. I leaned heavily on other opinions in our planning for our trip and if I could pay it forward to the next group with good things to say in a timely manner than the process works.
I cannot say enough positive things about our time with John. My group all agreed unanimously. Full days , plenty of stops, breaks, fast food (to keep it moving) and getting to the next pub /restaurant in time for a great local dinner. The wow factor was there as we drove from place to new place. Our photo diary is very extensive and using the photo GPS tag feature helps with locating where were had stopped along our tour.
Standing on Inch Beach late afternoon, in a light rain with distant mountains and rain clouds was a moment we will all think for a while. It’s been about 1 week later, we are back home and in our jobs and longing to see that again.

J. M.John O'Donovan and Barry Butler were knowledgeable, patient, entertaining and accommodating as they guided our group thorough Scotland and Ireland this past fall. It was my first trip to both countries and my expectations were exceeded in every possible way. I anticipated that I would (and did!) love Scotland, especially Skye, but Ireland took my breath away! John's love of Ireland was truly contagious as he shared history, music and anecdotes about his homeland. Thank you for going the extra mile(s) both literally and figuratively to provide a memorable trip for each member of our small, but diverse group. Visiting Belfast was an inspiring and eye opening experience. Castles, gardens, whiskey tastings, Highland cows and history around every scenic bend were highlights of a splendid and remarkable trip.
"Cead mile failte" proved to be an understatement! The people of Scotland and Ireland (and especially John and Barry of Butler Tours!) are incredibly gracious. Thank you!

I took two 11day tours in 2012 May & September from Canada 56 passengers on both trips, the tour was fantastic thanks to John our driver and also Steve everything they done for the group was tremendous, I want to thank Ian and Ciara who organized our Itinerary. In fact the people were so happy they asked me to organize another tour but make it a longer stay so I am doing a 16 day tour commencing on September 23,2013 until October 8,2013 and it was sold out in 4 weeks,they have fabulous equipment and again the staff are excellant hope to see you in September Ian and I know you promised me John as our driver once again

They took such good care of our group of 8 for two weeks, including a ferry transport from Scotland to Ireland. John seems to know absolutely everything -- arcane or everyday -- about not just his beloved Ireland but Scotland, as well. Not just the facts, but fascinating and funny stories. Their pride in and love for their country is palpable, and they shared it with us every day. John is tireless in making sure that everyone has a good time and coming up with surprise stops and other treats, like an evening of music at a pub in Doolin. Sadly, we didn't see much of Cork on this tour, but because of John, I have put a visit to Cork (and Cobh) on my bucket list. It was, indeed, the luck of the Irish to meet up with them.

J. S.The one place my husband wanted to see was Ireland. Now by see Ireland, I mean everything we could possibly see in 10 days. My son has accused me of marathon travel. We like to cover as much ground as possible the first time we visit. In order to be able to see the things we wanted in the time frame we had, I knew we would need very efficient transportation. On our own it wouldn't be possible. Based on reviews from various sources and responses to inquiries that we made, I decided on a Butlers Bus Tours Ireland. This wasn't a spontaneous trip. My first contact with Butlers was about a year before we actually arrived in Ireland. Circumstances changed multiple times. We started with four in our group, then three. When it came down to just the two of us, I begin to think that it would not be possible. But the staff at Butlers never gave up on us. I can't even count the number of changes that we made. The wonderful staff at Butler's patiently organized and re-organized and re-organized until finally we felt confident that we would be able to accomplish our goal. Kevin was to be our driver. Our flight arrived earlier than scheduled and, even though it was 5 a.m., Kevin was there to meet us. This set the tone for the entire trip. We traveled a total of 1900 miles in 10 days without one hitch. Since we only had a few specific places to see, Kevin would adjust the schedule and make suggestions as we progressed. I could go on and on about all we saw and how beautiful Ireland is, but it was Butlers and ultimately Kevin that made it possible. We highly recommend the staff for the planning and Kevin for the implementation. We would not hesitate for a second to use them again. Probably not the trip for everyone but it was just perfect for us.
M. L.Booked a week-long golf tour in County Donegal and County Sligo, and couldn't have been happier with our decision to use Butler Tours. Our driver Thomas McQuinn was excellent. Always on time, personable, and knowledgeable about the history of the areas we visited. The booking process was very easy, and the staff at Butler was very quick in their response times to any questions I had for them prior to the trip.
My advice to those looking to book: carefully study the size/dimensions of the bus you are taking. We ordered the Class A VIP van for 4 people and our luggage barely fit (each had a golf bag, 1pc of carry-on luggage, and a backpack). We did have to lay down the 5th and 6th seats as golf clubs will not fit laying them across the back. That being said, it didn't present a problem for us. (Butler's website does show that this class van is best for a maximum of 4 golfers). Without clubs, a 5th person would probably be OK.
Will be returning to Ireland in 3 years, and would happily use Butler Tours again.
