Reviews of Smithwick's Experience

Smithwick's is one of my absolute favorite Irish Beers. Many people will always go for Guinness, which is good, but for me I prefer Smithwick's. My wife booked a tour and surprised me with it last time we were in Dublin. Just a short couple hour bus drive and we were there. It was a really awesome tour. The tour guide had been working there for all his life, as a matter of fact his great grandfather started working here. He said that they really believe in hiring family (if they want to work there), and it has kept the tradition of their brewing style alive.
It is not as interactive as other brewery torus I have been on, but it is great to see some of the history of how they began and their brewing process.
I can say that has been a great thing since their beer is so great!

It was a really nice tour. We paid for the guided tour and ended up with a group of 6 total. The guide was very personable and gave great info between the videos. I thought the tour itself was very well done, mixing the Smithwick’s fascinating family history with info about their brewing style/process. I’ve done a number of brewery tours and this is way less commercialized than Heineken and Guinness.
I absolutely recommend the extra €3 for the tasting pallet at the end of the tour. The pub after was pretty cute!
l. b.
We paid €16 per adult online. This included a taster paddle with all three ales and I would highly recommended.
The standard price per adult is €15 for the experience (including one of three optional pints) , and the additional tasting is €3 when bought at the desk.
The tour was short but sufficient and packed with interesting history. Interactive and accommodating tour, with a knowledgeable guide. ( multiple language audio guides available). Seems to cater for wheelchair users also.

Such great experience. The tour guide (Petra) was delightful. During the tour you will learn about history of beer making in Kilkenny and history of Smirhwick's family. Unfortunately the tour is not visiting the brewery itself (which is just next door). It ends with one big or paddle of 3 half-pint tasters. Definitely worth visit if you are in Kilkenny!

We really enjoyed our visit. The tour was informative and interesting. To see the history of the brewery linked to Ireland's sometimes difficult history, including a close friendship between Smithwicks and Daniel O Connell, is inspiring. Inspired so much, I felt duty bound to drink the red stuff for the rest of the day, and a while into the night😉
D. H. K.
I loved the layout of the tour. It was so different from any other. Honestly thought it was much more entertaining than the tour at the Guinness Storehouse.
Just a tip: don't buy the paddle. You can refill your beer even with the regular ticket.

We were not sure about doing this tour and at the end we were glad we did! Our tour guide, Killian was brilliant and super friendly! We learned many interesting facts about the brewery history and the tour is very interactive! Beer is also very tasty! I couldn’t recommend enough!
C. K.
Best brew tour in Ireland! Our tour guide was great and everything was really well done! Guinness may have some great views but Smithwicks was a way better tour!
R. R.
Nice tour. Though too much time is the tour is given to property ownership history and not enough to the actual brewing
m. b.
I have been wanting to go here ever since I moved to the SE, it was well worth the wait, the girl at reception was so friendly and nice I was even able to leave my rucksack there for the duration of the tour. Our tour guide Jack as just as friendly and very informative, it is great when you get a guide who seems passionate about their job, he interacted with everyone and everything was flawless. I have to admit I never drank Smithwick's before but because I upgraded my admission I got to try the three drinks they brew, the red (traditional) the pale and the blonde.
D. H.
A really nice tour with tasting of great beer at the end! Our guide was really into his work and it was fun to listen to him! The group was a bit too big for my opinion (I guess 20-25 people) but still a great experience! (If you have to choose between Guinness and smithwicks, go here ;) )
M.
Very good tour! Was one of the best brewery tours I did because they really took the time to explain the history and the different steps of brewing their beer.
The tour goes from one room to another and has a cool magical influence (i don't wanna say to much..you have to see it on your own. It is really cool :D)
The price is 16 Euro per Person and 3 Euro extra if you want to taste all 3 beer (i would recommend that)
For all budget travellers: You can save a little bit of money if you book online or if you get one of the "attraction brochure" at a tourist information place because some of them have discounts in it.
For Smithwicks Experience did we got a disount from 10% per ticket like that.
T. B.
Smithwick’s is an adorable find in Kilkenny where you get a tour of basic explanation on how beer is distilled - you first watch a movie about the history which is quite boring and then they walk you through the place to show you the tools used through time to distill the beer. In the final stage, you get beers to taste - their different kinds of ale - red ale, blondie and pale ale!
j. f.
a well presented tour, with a good layout of their history and their brewing process with a very clever interactive display, definitely recommend going with the beer tasting option.
B. S.
I liked the tour and the experience. The building and the exhibition was so high tech, I recommend for everybody to visit. I enjoyed the tasting part, my favourite was the Blonde version of Smithwick's.
M. V. (.
One of the best brewery tours I have had the privilege of attending. Simon was knowledgeable and genuinely enjoyed talking about the history of Smithwicks. Try the Pale Ale if you are from the States. It isnt an IPA on steroids, it is just perfect.
A. J.
Great tour. Didn't know they don't make beer there anymore. Kind of a bummer.
J. E.
Living in Colorado and having been on the Coors tour this was outstanding! The guide was very knowledgeable and the experience itself was great, fun and informative. Highly recommend!
M. S.
Vma super modernized and flashy presentation of how beer is made but no real exposure to the actual brewery. The experience does tell you some interesting facts about the family and how it played its role in Kilkenny history. At the end you either get a pint ir flight for 3 extra euros. They did have ine beer only available in Ireland.
M. M.
The Smithwicks Experience is less an actual Brewery Tour than a multi media experience of a perfectly replicated brewing process enhanced with the history of the founding family and of the brewing in Kilkenny. Highly recommended and not only because of the pint at the end. 😊
P. N.
I've been on this tour a couple of times now. It really is well detailed and the guides are very knowledgeable about the topic. Some virtual screen of the founders/actors telling their tales of how Smithwicks came to be is excellent. I've always drank stout and was never very fond of ale but the pint that you receive at the end of the tour was fabulous. So fresh and perfectly chilled. It is well worth the experience. I would highly recommend this place for a visit.
j. g.
Easily the coolest bar tour we took all week in Ireland. Everyone talks up the Guinness Bar tour, but we feel that the Smithwicks tour was BETTER!!! We just need to get some Smithwicks Blond sent to Pittsburgh PA! We loved it! It was our tour guides first tour ever and he did great!
P. W.
Smithwick's have been based here in Kilkenny at this location since 1710, its brewed in Dublin now, the tour of their old brewery buildings and the new bar and gift shop is very interesting and worth a visit, they start every half an hour. Recommended.
M. F.
Very interesting tour and our guide kept the audience engaged throughout.
Would highly recommend.
L. A.
The tour was interesting, straight to the point and the lady leading the team and the receptionist were very sweet and helpful. It was also very modern with the visuals used.
c. D.
Great place. Very interesting. Guided tours. Small and very personal. Lovely staff. Well worth a visit
g. d.
Loved it, great value for money and quite an interesting tour on the history of Smithwicks.
C. R.
Fun, laid back environment with knowledgeable tour guides and interesting props.
K. W.
Meh... Tour was mostly an advertisement on how great there beer was.
T.
My friends and I did this tour while in town and really enjoyed that we were 3 in a group of 5 max. The tour guide knew his stuff and the interactive exhibits really added a lot to the tour. You learn the family history along with the history of beer. When we visited, we wound up tasting beer in a tent out back but had a great time.
This place is fully wheelchair-accessible.

Amazing time had. Adam was amazing. Loved every second of this. You can tell he's a guy of loves his job. Would do again in a heart beat.
M. B.
Smithwick's was one of my favorite tours while in Ireland, I enjoyed it more than the other beer tour we went on while in Dublin. I think we got lucky and it was a rainy day in Kilkenny so it wasn't busy at all and we were able to relax while trying a flight of their beer.
A. U.
Wonderful experience. Had been to two rather boring brewery/distillery tours and was dreading this one, but it was by far the best. Our tour guide, Kaylyn was an absolute gem and the presentation was speedy enough not to be boring, but also interesting. Learned some things about different beer and hops! The tasting room was nice and so was the gift shop and the girl working there. Highly recommend.
e. r.
Great brewery experience. Located in the heart of a the very lovely city of Kilkenny.
J. R.
Fun tour! The Swedish Kilkenny = a Smithwicks's beer
M.
My husband had a great time taking the tour of Smithwick's. The gentleman giving the tour was really nice and great with all of our questions. He showed the group a picture of his grandfather who worked at the brewery. The town seems proud of its heritage and was great seeing a bit of history there. (The tasting after was fantastic too!)
S. N.
Great tour but for people who has problem understanding English, take a audioguide the guide have an uncomprehensible accent!! Speaks fast... I can understand english native people but not him. If u want to try without wish you to don t have the same as me
A. H.
Very nice museum. Recently refurbished with plenty of multimedia presentations for all senses. Time well spent. Highly recommended.
M. C.
A really great tour with interactive sections, videos and example equipment that they show you. You don't pass by the actual floor where the beer is made but it is really well done to allow you to understand the process. The tour guide is great and the base ticket comes with a pint of beer including the new lager which is only sold in Ireland for now, although the classic and pale ale are better. Purchase your ticket online to save $2 but you can't reserve a time so you just show up and hope for the best (there are yours often so likely be ok) or ask to get the discount at the door.
J. D.
Great tour! Fabulous guide, very informative. Displays and videos are well done...not overly detailed but enough that we learn a lot. Tasting at the end was nice. I'm not a beer drinker, but I actually enjoyed their beer.
D. H.
So, first off - we're definitely glad we did this tour. It's a great experience if you're in Kilkenny. Very informative with interesting insight into both the process and the history. Getting to taste the sweet wort along the way was an interesting step I've not had at other breweries. The only downside (for us anyway) is there's a lot of tacky multimedia footage. Just about every room you go through there's a video clip to sit and watch, which definitely adds a lot of unnecessary time. Our tour guide was so excellent and informative that I would have much preferred him to impart all that information instead of sitting through the tacky multimedia presentations. That said, that's a minor gripe and it's well worth it for the rest of the experience.
d. r.
Love this place. had a great time. better than the st James gate tour.
A. H.
This place is a must see for the curious, and the avid beer drinker alike. The tour is short and interesting. And they have a pretty cool tourist shop that's not ridiculously expensive. Overall a great experience! Had a blast!
B. M.
More than you bargain for in the best of ways. I not only earned about beer, but got a full sense of the history of beer in Ireland. The tour guide knew the routine and you could tell they enjoyed their job as much I enjoy drinking their beer! I the tour in the tasting room was a great way to enjoy an early afternoon in Kilkenny. My wife and I agree this was the best tour event we did in a 10 day trip around the whole country.
D. D.
We took the tour which is not cheap at the time 15 euros, but as a fan of the beer, it was well worth every penny. We had Kaylyn as a tour guide and it is a wonderful history lesson paired with the story of how they brew it. I especially enjoyed the modern technology used in this historic setting. It was really something to see and something that shouldn't be missed if in Kilkenny.
T. L.
Fun and educational. Beers are nice and you get a full pint choosing 1 of 3 type beers at the end of the tour and relax in their pub area. Only negative for me was the group I was in they over filled so no seating and hard to see tour guide which diminished the experience some. Still worth a visit if you're in the area.
D. C. J.
This was a superb tour. I really enjoyed it. Our tour guide Patrick was amazing and very knowledgeable about the history of Smithwick's. Entire tour is about 30 minutes and ends with the tasting room. I would suggest the upgrade to get the flight of beers. It costs about 3 euros more.
P. P.
We had read the reviews that it was a bit "Hollywood"and not the working brewery any more. But decided to go anyway. It was amazing. Much more than a brewery tour. Our guide was from a family that had worked at the brewery for generations. It more like a historic walking tour than just a brewery. Free pint at the end! I recommend it.
A. R.
This was such a great tour! At only €13 per person if you book online it was very good value, the ticket also includes a pint of Smithwicks upon exit at the bar! We had a wonderful tour guide called Robert, he was just so friendly, smiley and knowledgeable! The place is also entirely wheelchair and pram friendly
V. M.
Great experience. The tour is relatively short (30-45min), but provides some useful historical context and uses multimedia very nicely. Tours go every half hour, opening hours depend on the season.
B. K.
Great beer, great tour, very informative. Take a look
B. M.
Interesting tour and very informative of stuff I didn't know
T. V.
Great tour! I recommend you buy the upgrade to try all 3 Ales, i aid only 3€ more and received 3 half pints off all flavours instead of 1 pint of 1 flavour. The tour guide was funny and the experience was great! This place is the pride of the town.
J. K.
Not really the brewery but a decent tour and the ale at the end is quite tasty!
A. K.
My husband and myself visited the Smithwicks experience today wed 26th. Brilliant tour as always. It was my husbands first time here and I had been several times leading groups. It's a super tour and our guide
Robert was first class.
K. H.
Very different brewery tour, goes much more into the history of the beer. It was so worth it to go through our tour guide was incredible and the option of a free pint or flight at the end was wonderful.
P. K.
Better than the Guinness Storehouse tour by a long way. Its led by a real person with a historical family involvement in the brewery and a heap of knowledge. They told us much more info on the recipe and we got to sample ingredients at each stage. All in all a much more enjoyable experience.
J. M.
This was an ok tour for people who are enthusiasts but felt more for people who aren't. There's a good amount of theatrics (talking portraits and phantom projections) to keep anyone interested. They also have some neat things for brew enthusiast like a hop smelling station and taste samples of wort. None of the tour goes through any actual production center though which was disappointing for me because they always smell so good.
T. F.
They call it an experience... and wowee an experience it was. The technology was amazing. The tour was informative and entertaining, enhanced by the interactivity, and the guide was delightful. It was great to try a pint of what you had just learned about and it's an amazing beer. Can't recommend enough!
D. C.
About 40 minutes for the tour, plus whatever you spend in the bar. The tour is well done, even if it is a little artificial. It does give you a sense of the smells and sounds of a working brewery.
A. K.

I've been on a lot of brewery tours. Didn't really learn anything new about brewing, but they had a nice bit of history of the brewery itself, and how it tied into Irish history, that I really enjoyed. And the beer is really good.
F. D.
The best brewery tour ever. Small group, completely interactive with the host to the point of feeling of being a family member and paced to accommodate every member of the tour. Your choice or a flight of Smithwick's at the end of the tour where you can relax in a pub and mingle among others or sit alone.
j. p.
Informative, just the right amount of time. Tour guide friendly. Pints at the end fresh. Nice comfy pub setting to enjoy a pint. Great history of brewery presented in tour.
C. M.
I didn't go to the tour (which runs every half hour and has an hour duration including plenty of time for the tasting session in the end. The souvenirs are of very high quality, consequently not very cheap. The staff are amazingly nice, specially the young ones.
M. C.
Great beer Tour, worth the trip. The quality of the Tour is so much better than the much bigger Brewery in Ireland looking at you Guinness. Highly recommend, its a guided tour from a member of Smithwick that really does appreciate the Swithwick beer. The tasting at the end was delicious.
C. R.
We've done several distillery/brewery tours in Ireland and this one is by far the best. Very well done, interactive and informative. Ide was a wonderful tour guide with a beautifully angelic voice. 10/10 would do again!
A. F.
Great tour really enjoyed it
J. E.
Excellent tour, very detailed information. They delve into the history of Smithwick's and Ireland as well, which gives valuable background information. I recommend that you upgrade your ticket for the board tasting, being able to try all three of their brews.
P. R.
Most unique tour I've been on. They use a combination of video, tour guide, and hologram to set the mood and help tell the history of smithwick's, Ireland, and beer in Ireland. The smell of fresh wort makes you feel like your brewing a batch yourself. Plus if you're a novice to brewing, they have hop samples to smell (although they smelt a bit stale). Plus the beer is awesome. This is one of those things you have to do it you like beer.
B. W.
Had a wonderful tour. I've done the Guiness, Jameson and Bushmills tours, and this was by far the best one hands down. Lovely knowledgeable staff. My tour guide was even second generation working for Smithwicks, so it couldn't have been better.
M. H.
The brewery tours here are more about the deep history behind them rather than the process of brewing. This is what my wife and I were looking forward to so if you like history and beer the tour is great
D. G.
The Smithwick’s Experience was quite the experience here at Smithwick’s!
It was the most multimedia I’ve seen at a brew tour. I was surprised to say the least. The wort had a lovely flavor. Also, the sampler was fun at the end.
I bought a fruitcake at your gift shop. It sits above the mantle as a momento of my time there.
E. K.
Great experience. You learn a lot about the brewing site, the history of the company, the impact the Smithwick family had, and of course, the brewing process. Top it all off with a pint or flight at the end. A must-visit for beer lovers.
T. K. (.
Once you've taken a brewery tour, there's little need to see another brewery - the process is similar in them all. What stands the Smithwick's tour apart is that while they do explain the process, the do a much better job of detailing their history - especially since they do not brew on the site any longer. If you are in town and need to grab a pint, do it by taking the tour - you get a pint at the end with your admission. Well worth the stop.
M.
Even coming from the states this place is my favorite brewery. On par if not better than Guinness.
E. K.
Great! The tour is the best of modern technology (holograms and interactive presentations) combined with knowledgeable and interested staff. Separate tour group departures keep things moving but not overcrowded and a low-key tasting at the end wraps everything up nicely.
D. H.
If you like Smithwick's Beer or Beer in general it's worth to visit.
It's not a real Brewery tour since no Beer is anymore brewed at the site.
However the tour is quite diverting and you learn about the history of Smithwick's. Beer nerds and Homebrewer learn nothing new about brewing, but hey you get a pint of one of the Smithwick's Ales at the end of the tour.
R. M.
Excellent tour. Good mix of presentation from the guide and multimedia. I thought the use of tech really added to the experience. Great mix of history and beer making progress. Tasting at the end was also I highlight 😉
R. D.
Good tour; rich in the history of the brewery and area and in the craft of brewing.
Had the flight at the end of the tour. I liked in order ( most to least): Red, Pale, Blonde.
N. D.
An expensive tour but worth it if you have the money and time to spare. The tour guide, Robert I believe his name was, was enthusiastic and great. It’s a good tour and an experience - but I doubt I would do it again :).
E. F.
Great tour and we learned so much! Really enjoyed our pints at the end of the tour. We also bought glasses with our names engraved. Worth the price and a great momento of our trip.
C. K.
Interesting and well presented tour. Definitely worth a visit!
B. O.
This was one of the highlights of my trip to Kilkenny. Connor was a great tour guide, the full experience was great from the theatrical tour to the interactive activities to the generous taste tests. I would definitly recomend this if you in the area and enjoy beer.
A. P.
Excellent really enjoyed the tour. ..and the beer is great. .. did not catch the guides name but she was so lovely and obviously loves her job..... highly recommended.
Y. S.
An amazing, slightly cheesy, Disney-esque experience. We had a ton of fun here and it was so much better than the Guiness tour. Highly recommended if you're in the area. The beer is also delicious.
S. 5.
Great experience, great beer, great guide. My newly married wife and I got there 1 minute before they closed. The tour guide waited for us and caught us up with the group.
T. P.
Let me preface this with the fact I didn't go on the tour. I was going to but it was around an hour long and was going to cost €15. You get a beer at the end and I'm sure it's a really cool experience, but it's very expensive and they don't brew Smithwick's here anymore. It's now made in Dublin.
The gift shop is nice though and the staff was incredibly friendly. I just can't give it a good or bad review really.
If you want to pop in and pick up some Smithwick's swag then this is the place for you. Apparently it's the only Smithwick's merchandise store in Ireland.
S. A.
Definitely worth the entrance fee. The guide lady is very good and i enjoyed so much. I went with a certain expectation as smithwick's is my fav beer, and it exceeded my expectations:)
B. O.
This review is immediately biased as i am a smithwicks drinker and i visited the holy temple of my people. Excellent tour. One of the best of any in Ireland. Some of the guides are former brewers from the site. The multimedia experience combined with their knowledge of Kilkenny's rich history make this a must do experience. Don't forget to visit the gift shop afterwards for exclusive merch.
R. M.
A visit to the Smithwick's brewery in Kilkenny City that was a wonderful experience. The stages of the particular museum were a totally enjoyable visotor spot. 3 types of Smithwick's ale were a lovely taste. The Smithwick's brewery museum does seem to be worth an interesting tourist spot. Give it a good go. Thanks from Dundalk,Ireland.
J. M.
The site is no longer a working brewery, so this is a themed tour that is heavy on the history (the monks, and then the Smithwick family themselves), together with an explanation of the brewing process, supported by some decommissiomed brewing machinery, etc. If you've been on th Guinness tour in Dunlin, don't bother with the Smithwicks tour. If you haven't been on a brewery tour before or you are particularly interested in Smithwicks brand, it's worth considering this tour.
S. C.
Tour was good, but it's a very sterile experience as they no longer make beer here. You can also tell that they're sister companies with Guiness as the tech of the tour is identical to Guinesses tour.
P. H.
If you like history and/or beer in any way, you'll love this tour. Better than the Guinness tour because you actually get a guide who tells you how the beer was made. Plus... BEER!!
C. A.
The tasting was good, but the tour is pretty rough. It's nearly all pre-set with videos and props. You don't get to see any real brewing.
C. W.
I love learning about the history of this brewery and those that made it happen through the centuries. Our guide was the best. I would go again, better than Guinness experience
M. B.
Thought it would be similar to the Guinness experience, but it's quite different. It's more about the family and history of beer in Kilkenny. Great tour and good price for both Guinness and Smithwick's (pronounced Smitticks)
D. K.
If you love beer you will enjoy it!
A. G.
Very well done tour, in the authentic original brewery. They present a good history of the company as well as explaining the beer making process.
F.
Enjoyed the tour a lot. The tour is well designed and organised. A bit overpriced. Such tours are conducted for free in Japan including the tasting part.
D. K.
An amazing experience that tells you about Ireland's favorite ale through history of monks, two world wars and secret ingredient. Highly recommended!
D. F.
Absolutely enthralling. Wonderful tour guide (Simon). Much more hands on and personal than the Guinness Storehouse, a highlight not to be missed in Kilkenny.
C. H.
Tour that creatively tells the story of the original abbey and then the Smithwick family history (via talking paintings on the wall!) and then, room by room, thru the process of how they produce the famous local red ale. Complete with smells and tastings (you can try the pre-fermented barley mash - interesting - as well as the yummy final product). While actual mass-production of Smithwick's beer was (sadly) transferred to the Guinness plant in Dublin in 2013, this tour at the original site is still very well done.
L. H.
Really good tour. Our guide Cillian was brilliant and answered all questions. Nice to have a taste after the tour in the bar. Definitely recommend it.
T. W.
Great tour, fantastic friendly staff
M. O.
Interesting tour and excellent guides. And a pint of smithwicks at the end.
L. Q.
Awesome brewery experience with some excellent presentation on both the Brewery history as well as the manufacturing process. Recommend the tasting paddle.
A. G.
Great tour! Guides very knowledgeable and friendly. One of the best tours of distilleries I've had. A must see in Kilkenny.
A. H.
My good lady and I did this tour on Thursday, I, unlike others, loved that it wasn't overly drawn our, our guide was Colm, he kept it interesting and friendly, and between videos, holograms and Hogwarts-style talking pictures, it was great, the pint of Smithwicks at the end was lovely too and there's a lovely gift shop, not too pricey.
J. H.
This was a great tour. History meets beer. Guided tours which was so much better than Guinness in Dublin (plus the beer is better).
C. S.
Great tour to understand beer making. You get a free pint and a discount if you produce your ticket from Road Train.
R. S.
Our guide, Chloe, was awesome. She was very knowledgable in the history and the process. If interested in the brand or brewing, I would highly recommend.
L. P.
Great place, new and refurbished, the tour is interesting. It's a little short but at the end you can relax with the free pint.
I. T.
Wow this place does not apologize for its ridiculousness, and that is a quality I admire. Holographic monks and talking paintings don't detract from this attractions charm, but if the boldly kitsch isn't your thing this definitely isn't the place for you.
M. M.
Brilliant story of the history of this iconic brewery..
A. F.
Great tour ... Loved the talking picture room ... Free pint of beer at the end but we upgraded to the trio tasting sampler ... Do it!
김.
Super! That's just gorgeous.
Absolutely worth a visit.
Enjoy a pint Smithwick's at the end of the tour.
I am a big fan of Smithwick's so I must have been in here.
I am missing here so much
C. B.
Great place to visit to get an insight into the history behind the creation of the Historic Irish Brand Brewery and the historic background of the industry that has become a worldwide icon and also the history of the City around the Brewery and all the different trials that The Smithwicks Family Brewery has had to face down through the stages and what role it played in the History of the Ireland as a country
D. B.
Tour shorter than I expected but still enjoyable
Our tour guide was very good and knowledgeable
Nice bar at the end of the tour
J. T.
A fun, interactive experience. Our tour guide, Simon, was very knowledgeable and entertaining. Really seemed to love what he does!
G. W.
Loved it , such a nice surprise to have wandered into the museum . We had a great experience and really enjoyed our time here
T. M.
Awesome experience! We had Ide as our guide and she was a fantastic speaker/teacher for the brand. Highly recommend!
P. G.
Brilliant experience well worth the visit... Caters for all ages and abilities
J. W.
Excellent Tour! Don't miss visiting here when in Kilkenny. The Blonde Ale is delicious.
E. W.
We had an amazing tour of smithwicks KillKenny today the history and information was so interesting the way it was told through a video of a monk or 3d like and ancestral family of the smithwicks family speaking from their portraits was stunning and so clever and the way they make the beer of course and taste after is incredible a must visit for everyone Irish or not all visitors well done smithwicks KillKenny
l. b.
Great tour, very informative. Discounted tickets (10% off) can be bought at Kilkenny tourist information center, three minutes away
S.
Wonderful tour with a tasty flight at the end
S. L.
One of the best tours I took in Ireland! I love how personal it was and how much they put into presenting the tour.
T. R.
Really enjoyed the tour. Interesting history. Although they don't brew there anymore.
L. K.
Wonderful hosts, lovely and relaxing atmosphere.
J. O.
Simon was a great tour guide. Enjoyed our afternoon here and really enjoyed our pint at the end!
E. P.

Nice tour. Different.
M. A.
We were recommended to do the tour when we visited and it was one of the best things we did in town.
We were unlucki while choosing the hour, as around 3pm there are not so many tours and we had to wait for 45 min to the next one to start. We were able to go around for a walk and stop in a very cosy Caffè near by to make some time, so it really was not too bad. Apart from that, the tour was nice and the information very interesting. The guides are really good at keeping it engaging without been overwhelming.
For me, the place and the tour is not as impressive as the Guinness tour in Dublin, but I considered it more enjoyable and they totally made more jokes with an opener atmosphere.
For the final tasting, I got the 3 samples instead of the pint, which I totally recommend, as you can try all of the beers and not focus on a single one. And if you don't like beer and you still want to visit it, that is fine, because they even have soft drinks for those who don't like it or need to drive.

(Translated) Great interactive tour through the walls of this brewery. I can only recommend it to everyone. The history of the family and the brewery is conveyed impressively and is absolutely entertaining. The staff is very friendly and hard-working. Questions are always answered immediately and the tasting at the end is a great conclusion. Booking in advance not mandatory. Is also very good locally.
(Original)

(Translated) Very interesting tour, which leads through specially designed premises. The emergence of Smithwick's beer and its naming are alternately narrated in turns by a tour guide and films. Everything in English, but at the beginning of the tour audio guides are available in German and several other languages. At the end of the tour there is a pint that is included in the ticket price, against 3.- Euro surcharge the tasting package. 10% discount with the flyer.
Duration in total about 1 hour. Have fun.

Viel Spass.

(Translated) not satisfied at all. I saw a multimedia museum rather than a place to see how they make the oldest beer in the world. Too expensive to hear audio and video, nothing else.
(Original)
C. P.
(Translated) Very beautiful museum which tells the story of the Smithwick well. Guided tour, very visual, with the possibility of having an audio guide in French (the audio guide is pretty well done, it calms down almost well with the launches of videos by the guide).
We took the tasting version of three smithwick beers at the end, very nice and the beers are explained by the guide.
(Original)
D. g.
(Translated) Although the brewery is no longer active here the tour is nice, the visit is very interactive and visual. I advise you to take the tasting of the three beers at the end of the journey ... for three euros more it's worth the detour !!!
(Original)

(Translated) Did not do the tour, but the building is already worth seeing from the outside. There is also a nice gift shop.
(Original)

(Translated) The visit to the Smithwick's Experience, a brewery tour without seeing the current brewery, was appealing and interesting. From talking picture frames, video screens set in detailed rooms, usable brewery machines and tasting of the preliminary products to a personal guided tour in a small group, everything was there. At the end there were three beers. Unfortunately the tour was very short. Especially for the price!
(Original)

(Translated) The Kilkenny town center is home to a brewery visitor center that has existed for over 300 years.
The tours themselves are fun and interesting. They include video projections, holograms, photographed characters that speak from picture frames, instrument demonstrations and of course, tastings.
Basic tour cost about € 12, great price. There is a possibility to upgrade the tasting to all types they offer (3) at a cost of 16 euros (unnecessary, at the basic price get one type to choose so that two people can taste two types).
The tours end at the very invested store of the place, which, of course, can be reached from outside even without the tour. They claim their products are sold exclusively at their store and they are right. If you are looking for rarer and more special souvenirs, in terms of the story that goes with them, buy them there. We didn't even find one of their product in other stores and it made us nice that we had more rare souvenirs from the popular Guinness and Bushmills.
The first tour starts at 10am and the last one leaves at 5pm, if I remember everything correctly.
Book tickets online in advance because the tour there is very popular and chances are that if you come to the venue, you will find that the next few hours are already full.
Try directing the tour there to the later hours to enjoy an afternoon beer instead of the morning ...
Thanks for the tip for visiting there, Lila Paz, planning personal sewing trips to Ireland. It was worth it, honey.

(Translated) What to say? It was nice. A little melancholic in some respects, since beer no longer produces them. Fun and interesting experience. The tour of the structure can also be done with the audio guide, the timing of the dialogues and projections are well synchronized, as long as you turn on and off when the voice says so. At the end of the tour you are well rewarded with an extraordinary mug of beer. Even the store has beautiful things that unfortunately can only be found there. Even on the net it is not possible to buy.

Neanche in rete é possibile acquistare.

(Translated) The tour is very interesting. It's definitely worth a visit because the history of Smithwick's is very impressively shared with visitors. (Translated) Not bad but it has become too commercial ...
5 years ago we had already made this visit. From 10 € it went to 15 €! And 5 years ago it was more family oriented, our guide was a real enthusiast.
Today it is more commercial: many devices have been added to explain to tourists how the brewery works. It's also nice, but less true, less passionate. The guide was pleasant and easy to understand in English. Audio guides are available in French but this is not always practical, the translation not being simultaneous with the projected videos ...

(Translated) A visit is definitely highly recommended. The design is visually very high quality, because much is represented by film and audio material. One learns a lot about the impressive background and the history of the brewery and in the end the beer can be drunk. (Children get soft drinks). During the tour various stages of the brewing process itself can be carried out (also suitable for children). For foreign-language guests, borrowing audioguides is possible.

(Translated) Very good informative tour of the now closed brewery (Smithwick's is now brewed at St James Gate in Dublin).
Staff very friendly (bartender came to bring us another free Kilkenny after we had some questions about it earlier).
The only drawback I found was the noise. In some rooms, the sound of the presentation was very soft, sometimes combined with (unnecessary) background noise that apparently could not be turned off or softened. Perhaps not an issue with small groups, but disturbing in busier periods because guide is more difficult to understand. Therefore not 5 but 4 stars.

(Translated) Definitely worth seeing. Extremely friendly and easy to understand guide. Audio guides in different languages are available. Beer after the tour included in the price. For an extra charge also 3 different (recommended!) Unfortunately, there is no "production" more, so the experience on exhibits and theoretical refers. Duration approx. 1 hour incl. Tasting. Recommended by me;)

(Translated) The history of the smithwick's ancestry is known through multimedia panels, the treatment and production of beer through the various rooms that are visited. In the end, an excellent beer tapped at the moment and enjoyed in a cozy pub. English-speaking guide, for non-speakers, you can take advantage of the audio guide in Italian.
