L. R.Went to this lovely restaurant when we were staying in Carndonagh this weekend. All The staff are so lovely - especially the young fella (we didn’t get his name but he was working both Saturday evening and Sunday morning) highly recommended! The food was terrific too!

R. T.We stopped in this restaurant on our last night in Donegal and it was by far the best meal we had. The Thai Green Curry was excellent! The cocktails were light and refreshing. We were sat outdoors and had stunning views out to the valley. The waiting staff were so kind and considerate. While they were clearing up the outdoor tables and we were one of the last left they reassured us to finish our drinks and enjoy ourselves. Did not feel rushed out the door as some restaurants may do. Couldn't fault our experience.

Ordered the battered Cod, I have had many fish and chips as they are one of my favourite dishes. I could tell that the fish was very fresh. The staff were also extremely friendly. My friend ordered a dish and an employee told her that the dish would be too dry (since she removed some sauces that she didn’t like from the dish). He recommended soy sauce and if it wasn’t for him our dish wouldn’t be the best. To say it shortly it’s a great organised restaurant with tasty, fresh food, and friendly staff. Would definitely consider eating there again if I’m near Malin Head!

N. T.We drove up to the north from Dublin for a few days and were meandering, stopping at sites that took our fancy. We were headed west to donegal, and I looked for restaurants and accommodation south of Malin Head to stop for the night. I found the butterbean and booked online without a problem, and at an incredibly reasonable rate. We received a missed call and a text a while later, to communicate that there had been a mixup and the advertised price was incorrect, but we still wanted the room (andI still found the correct rate to be reasonable, for the record). Appreciate the call right away to update us, and while talking, asked what time the restaurant closed. Upon finding it was 7:45pm, and having gotten a bit turned around, we opted to stop for dinner en route, knowing we would get there around 7:20 and be too late.
When we arrived an hour later than planned, we gave them a ring and were told they’d be there in 5 minutes. We really felt terrible to bring them out again, and hadn’t realized they’d be gone for the night-however, we weren’t really in a position at that stage to book another room. They arrived in no time at all, helped us in with our bags and were generally just the loveliest people we could have hoped to meet. The accommodations were clean, cheerful and cozy, and Sandra was quick to suggest my mom use their chair lift once she mentioned having a hard time with the stairs and I had forgotten to check for a lift (completely my fault, I usually do) and helped her up in it before showing us around. My dad went down to pay and I followed for the sole reason to make sure he didn’t keep them talking too long, but they were so gracious, and didn’t seem to mind the chat and his many questions at all. We even enjoyed a brief history/geography lesson from Sandra in front of their large map!
They let us know about breakfast and went on their way. We were exhausted after the driving and slept like cozy logs, and went down firmly on the later side for breakfast, unsure if that was ok, but again, Sandra and Kevin were both SO gracious and welcoming, and we’d a lovely breakfast and fueling pot of tea, served by a nice young guy Christian.
I’m glad my google search led me to The Butterbean and only sorry that we didn’t get to stay longer and that we missed saying goodbye to Kevin and Sandra! We’ve already told all our local family that they must go to Malin Head and stop at the butterbean on their way! Kevin and Sandra, if you see this, thanks so much for your warm welcome and kindness!

Ate there (2 adults and 2 children) 4 evenings out of our 5 night stay in Carndonagh as there was a great menu with plenty of choice (although the kids were hooked on those toffee sundaes!) We felt extremely safe and all guidelines were followed perfectly by staff (but in a very discreet fashion). Highly recommend this restaurant.
T.We look forward to our weekly meal at the butterbean. Unfortunately due to covid-19 we cannot dine in but collecting for home , the meals are delicious and of excellent quality. Hopefully they get to open properly soon as it is an excellent dine in place.

The food is wonderful! Our mother is gluten and dairy free and this is the only place far and wide where she can have a 3 course meal! And it was delicious. Everyone who works at the Butterbean is kind and friendly and they treat us as old friends. Thanks very much!

r. w.Stopped en route from Malin. Very clean and all covid19 regulations are adhered to, as far as I could observe. We got the single table outside as we only wanted the cream tea. I did notice electric hand drier still operating in ladies toilet room. I thought these were dangerous???
D. C.Spectacular and a must try if you are in the area. We had the falafel/goats cheese salad, seafood chowder, and omelette along with some cappuccino. Salad was epic and great value. Chowder was a classic creamy version, slightly on the salty side but still very good. Nice bread also. I really wanted one of the desserts on display which looked amazing but couldn't fit anymore in, which was the biggest disappointment of the visit. Very friendly staff and comfortable place to sit and relax. Good WiFi if you need it.

My friend and I called in for dinner on Saturday in which we were greated and served by 2 friendly members of staff. The old bank has been decorated to a lovely homely standard, great food eg peppered chicken and homemade lasagne. We were unable to sample any of the homemade desserts as the portions were so large and tasted so good so instead we topped the meal off with a good strong coffee. The proprietor, Kevin, who personally welcomed us the night before, started breakfast half an hour early to accommodate my wife who an early start for work that day (as did one of her colleagues who, unknown to us, was also staying in the Butterbean (a returning customer as we found out). Later on, after dropping my wife to work called back to check out and same Kevin gave me another coffee (on the house). Happened to be going through Carndonagh again that lunchtime and thought, why not try the Butterbean for lunch. Chicken panini, cup of soup and a coffee for €10.95. Excellent service and quality once again. Also, as it turned out, I left my Kindle behind and, on calling Kevin, he not only retrieved it, but (parcel) posted it back to me in Dublin (and would not even let me reimburse the cost). Can't say enough about this place. If I'm ever back in the area I won't be staying anywhere else. Superb quality and very reasonably priced.

R. K.(Translated) When we came through the only recognizable entrance with our luggage and were standing in the restaurant, the waitresses tried to greet us as quickly as possible.
The bedroom was very quiet, new and we had quite a nice view. The bathroom was also completely new, simply huge and equipped with a rain shower. However, without a hair dryer and (much worse) only boiling hot tap water from the tap. If you want to wash your hands for more than 2 seconds, you have scalded yourself directly.
Apparently we got the last available room, but we were only one of two groups at breakfast between 8:30 and 9:30. It was particularly unpleasant that the restaurant was swept and cleaned in the meantime.
For breakfast we were offered a selection of small or large breakfasts as well as omelets, etc., typically Irish.
With 77 € for 2 people for one night including breakfast, we got a good offer compared to other overnight stays and the quality offered.

Als wir mit dem Gepäck durch den einzig erkennbaren Eingang kamen und somit im Restaurant standen, waren die Kellnerinnen bemüht, uns so schnell wie möglich zu empfangen.
Das Schlafzimmer war sehr ruhig, neu und wir hatten eine recht schöne Aussicht. Auch das Badezimmer war komplett neu, einfach riesig und mit einer Regendusche ausgestattet. Allerdings ohne Fön und (viel schlimmer) ausschließlich kochend heißem Leitungswasser aus dem Wasserhahnm. Wer sich mehr als 2 Sekunden die Hände waschen will, hat sich diese direkt verbrüht.
Angeblich bekamen wir das letzte verfügbare Zimmer, waren aber beim Frühstück zwischen 8:30 und 9:30 nur eine von zwei Gruppen. Unschön war dabei vor allem, dass währenddessen das Restaurant gefegt und sauber gemacht wurde.
Zum Breakfast wurde uns typisch irisch eine Auswahl aus kleinem oder großem Breakfast sowie Omelett etc. angeboten.
Mit 77€ für 2 Personen für eine Nacht inkl. Frühstück haben wir hier verglichen mit anderen Übernachtungen und der gebotenen Qualität ein gutes Angebot bekommen.

Plats vraiment pas chers et bons. Mais attention, c'est juste de la restauration rapide type snack. Tartelette à l'oignon et au fromage industrielle mais à moins de 6€. Burger de poulet : filet de poulet pané excellent mais rien d'autre dans le burger, pas de salade ni de fromage ! Juste poulet -pain. Je recommande pour un petit snack pas cher mais pas pour un bon repas.
